Pet Kelp Skin and Coat Formula

I started giving him Pet Kelp Skin & Coat a couple of months ago and I am happy to say that we are nearing the end of May, things are blooming like crazy and NO HOT SPOTS. Not one. He is blissfully unaware that the pollen is exploding around him. He spends half the day outside rolling around in the grass and then sleeps through the night without a care.
I am relieved. I was at my wits end trying to come up with new ways to keep him comfortable during (his) worst parts of the year. I hated taking him to the vet to be shaved, cleaned and medicated. This is, (for us), a great product. I don't know what I would have done if it hadn't been effective. I've tried just about everything else. Not once did my pet not want to eat his food with the kelp on it. After about 1 month, he stopped biting at himself and he's coat is so shinny.

I recently had a smaller cheap floating thermometer that I liked fail due to the temperature scale coming loose and moving around inside the thermometer. Since this could have caused some serious problems eventually if the shift was not obvious, I decided to praise this thermometer for its rugged construction and reliability.
I am still comparing, but not found a better made pond thermometer in this price range. The thermometer works great for our pond. I also plan to take it kayaking in the early and late seasons. It seems pretty durable.

Elite Submersible Preset Heater

on Tuesday, February 25, 2014

This heater was easy to install. The suction cups do move about easy on the aquarium glass, which makes positioning the heater easy. The heater must be installed below the rim of the tank, so even though it has a min water level, it cannot be set to have the adjustment knob above the water line in a filled to the top aquarium. This is really no big deal as it is fully submersible. The min water level is there for those that keep different aquarium setups in order to keep the heater in the proper water depth.
The knob for adjusting the temperature setting is stiff to turn. This is a big plus as it will keep fish from bumping the knob and causing temperature settings to change.
I have the heater set at 76°F. My thermometer shows a temperature of 75°F. I would say this is a very accurate aquarium heater. The heater does an excellent job of keeping the temperature constant. Room temperatures fluctuate from 65°F to 70°F depending on when we are home or sleeping. My old heater with a room temperature of 65°F could not bring the temperature above 72°F. The Hagen Elite Submersible Preset 100 Watt heater kept my aquarium at the 75°F mark easy when the room temperature was 65°F.
Overall very happy with the heater. Does an excellent job and is within 1° of the actual 76°F setting on the heater (my thermometer could also be off by +/1°F).
I would recommend this heater to others and will have no hesitation buying another when needed.
Another big plus is it has a lifetime warranty.
Update: 12-11-2011 Still holding temperature at 75°F.
This heater costs almost $10 more at my local fish supply store.

Nice heater, works fine, looks alright. Suction cups tend to loosen up though. Keep it out of a bubble curtain or it heats up too much. Nice lifetime warranty.Update: Nov 2012 it started losing its ability to heat. So I picked it up out of the water to see if it was still working and it cracked and broke from pulling it out and quickly putting it back in.

I bought this heater from my LFS because it looked nice, was the correct wattage, and was the cheapest out of most of them on the rack at $26.95 USD. When I brought it home and set it up in my cycling 55 gallon (bought the 200w version), I saw that the temperature dial was very easy to read, so I thought, "Great!" I was wrong. I set it on 76 degrees F, as I figured my T5 lights would give off a bit of heat, along with the recent heatwave my city has been going through this week. I assumed it would go up to perhaps 80F, which was fine because I don't have any fish in it right now, just plants. It heated up the water quickly (about 2 hours) and stood at a steady 76-78 F range, which is ideal for my tropical fish. When I woke up the next day, I saw that the thermometer read 81 degrees F, and the red light which indicates the heater is on was shining. My dial had not moved and still said that it should be 76, but it wasn't. It was 81 and climbing with the heater light on. I quickly turned off the lighting and turned on the AC, as well as turned down the heater. It still reads about 80, and the light comes on sometimes even at the set temperature of 72F.
All in all, I give this heater 2 stars. It heated my aquarium up quickly, has a sleek black design, but the temperature is just too inaccurate. I suppose I'll have to keep it in my aquarium for now, but as soon as I get a chance, I will be switching it out for something else.It does its job which is heating the aquarium but does not heat to the tempeture it's set on. I set mines to 79 degrees (f) and I use more then one temperure reader and both reads 85.1. To me thata big difference and I had this only for a month, I think thats why a couple of my toddler fish past out of the blue. My tank is an ok size it's only a 29 gallon, maybe for this heater you neen a bigger tank size (idk). So be careful on this heater if your tank is not that big. I suggest to buy this if you have an aquarium bigger then mine, it might work out better for you.

In any case I got it early and set it up on my tank to make sure it would work properly and therefore tried it out for about 3-4 weeks before I went on vacation. It seems to work as advertized. The only problem I encountered was that the hopper extending into the tank tended to fog up with the tank hood completely closed. When it fogged up, the food got stuck to the hopper and as time went by it totally clogged up. I solved the problem by propping the tank hood open about 3/4 of an inch, which allows the vapor to escape the tank and so now it does not fog up. Again testing it for about 2 weeks in this mode it seemed to work fine and the food did not stick to the hopper. I am now on vacation and only time will tell if the fish feeder did its job. Hopefully I'll return to well fed and thriving fish.I used this product to feed a 10 pound cat dry food morsels. I used the feeder for exactly 1 year (before the cat died). My cat was an obsessive eater. She would make our lives miserable by begging, rather attacking us for food; waking us up 4 hours before breakfast and purposefully ruining anything we were doing 2 hours or more before dinnertime. We had tried two other automatic feeders during the previous 10 years and she had broken into the two other automatic cat food dishes in no time (one she broke into within minutes). She did not thwart this feeder, she really only tried twice to break into it but gave up fairly quickly and never tried again. I had purchased the chute, which is an accessory, which may or may not have been needed to thwart her attempts. The feeder, itself is much smaller than the pictures reveal, which is a good thing.
I had the one hopper (it comes with) and purchased one additional "hopper extension." So, my feeder had a total of two square plastic "hopper" pieces. With the hopper and one hopper extension, I only had to fill the feeder up once a week, which was an unexpected liberating bonus. It was incredibly nice not to worry about twice-a-day feedings or even filling up the feeder daily (unless the power went out).
Generally, a problem with any hopper style feeder is you can only put one type of food in the machine, so they are eating only one flavor/brand all week. (We tried layering foods, but each food was different in size, so that did not work with this feeder.) And a specific problem with this feeder, for cat food, was it took about 10 minutes to set the hopper each time the morsel shape of the food changed (to unplug it from the timer, move it away from the cat, and actually set, test, reset, and retest the amount dropped). And to set the feeder, it required a high level of precision, since one tiny movement of the setting, altered the amount of food it would drop dramatically. Then, once I set the feeder with the precision of a watch maker, the amount of food dropped each feeding was inconsistent. I was required to set with precision, but the feeder dropped within a range of amounts. Generally, by the end of the week, I liked to think each feeding averaged out to the correct amount (of a 1/2 cup per day).
I also found that when the hopper was full/near full or it had 20% or less left in the hopper, it dropped out a lot more than it was set to drop. When it was only 20% full, the feeder ran the risk of dropping every morsel of food remaining in the hopper. I just learned to keep it 20% or more full. When it was full or near full, the weight of the food in the two-piece high hopper seemed to push a greater amount of food out (than it was set to drop).
The feeder did work, in that the cat could not get into it, it fed her sufficiently, and within a week of owning the feeder, the cat learned the feeder fed her and not us, so she quit waking us up daily at 4AM for 8AM breakfast or aggressively begging for food and annoying us 2 hours before dinner daily. The feeder did separate us from the food in the cats' mind, which made our lives unbelievably better. The last year we had the feeder with her, our lives improved tremendously. Glad we bought it.Recently purchased this for my cats and am very happy with it. It was much smaller then I had anticipated but this turned out to be a good thing. If you have cats that bug you allot for food then THIS IS THE FEEDER FOR YOU! This Super Feeder is perfect for feeding cats and many other types of small animals. Built in Texas no China like most of these kinds of things.
API Proper PH 7.0, 250gm

There really is no true way to keep an aquarium exactly at 7.0, and if the pH is changing rapidly that would be an indicator that there is something wrong with the overall water quality of the aquarium. Simply forcing the pH to remain at 7.0 doesn't mean water changes can be skipped or that overfeeding won't harm the water quality; all it really means is that the pH is within the ideal range of 7.0. I do bi-weekly water changes in my 40 gallon tank, and between changes I use this to maintain the pH at or around 7.0. My pH will drop to about 6.7 and this brings it back to 7.0, and then by the next water change it will be about 6.7 again until I change the water. This isn't meant to keep your tank at 7.0 forever, but it works great to help maintain a healthy aquarium.
If you find that this doesn't dissolve in the aquarium or it leaves the water cloudy you can dissolve it in water before putting it in the tank. I don't mind the cloudiness because when used in the recommended amounts it only stays cloudy for about 15-20 min as it dissipates into the water. I really don't see any reason why this would harm your filtration media when used properly. If anything the particles would get stopped in the filtration media which reduces the cloudiness as it continues to dissipate. My husband told me to purchase the product for his fish tank because the PH level wasn't at the right level. Ever since he used it, He stopped complaining about the PH level. I guess it worked. :)

I was using this in the goldfish tanks for my kids. Despite the buffer, the pH would stay continuously very low. At times the pH would drop from 6.6 to 6.2 overnight despite the buffer. Needless to say...the fish all died. May not be enough for goldfish.I use this in my cichlid tank. My local fish store closed so I had to find an online supplier, this item was packed nicely and arrived very quickly. If you are using this for the first time please read the instructions. You may have to add more then one application to bring your PH to 7, and you'll want to do it properly.Added this to my tank to try a different product to help maintain my tank at 7.0 but all it did was make my tank cloudy for the better part of a week. Excellent light source for small tanks. One major problem is bulb replacement.I wanted a smaller wattage bulb instead of the supplied 13w.Couldn't use a Phillips 9w because bulb and reflector are one piece on the Perch-light. Can't replace just the bulb! Tom web site is impossible to order from when I went to find a 9w bulb with reflector.Read Best Reviews of TOM Aquarium Perch-Light Fixture 13-Watt with Compact Flo Lamp Here
