Ergo Outdoor Pet/Pond Feeder

Ergo Outdoor Pet/Pond Feeder, MediumFaulty timer causing the feeder to deliver over 5 lb of food into the pond in 24 hours killing all my Koi. I tested the unit and retested it and sometimes it would work and other times would not. I followed the steps carefully that warned how not to have the unit run non stop. Other reviews also showed that there was problems with the timer. I expected more from a $180 feeder. My family is devasted!

I bought this feeder for my outdoor cat thinking this was the answer to my feeder problems after racoons tore up a cheaper battery operated model. Unfortunately it didn't turn out that way. After about a week, the racoons tore the spout off and quickly learned to jiggle the auger, and emptying the feeder. The cat, of course, got no food. I found observed this after putting a web cam on the feeder one weekend, and seeing the racoons at work quickly emptying it.

I tried contacting Ergo at their website twice by asking if a replacement spout is available, with no reply from Ergo. After being ignored twice, I rate this company's customer service a "0", and would not consider doing any more business with them. BTW, the U-7 timer that came with the feeder quit after about 6 months, and Ergo seems determined not to sell them on Amazon anymore. BTW, this timer is manufactured by a company named Ningbo Bainian Electric Appliance Co.,Ltd, and is sold under different brands. They also make the U5 and U6. Also, it appears the only one left that will program down to seconds is the FD60-SU43, but good luck finding it.

I was very excited to find this product. Now I would be able to leave town and not have to worry about whether or not the dog sitter made their stop every day. The timer was easy to program and the instructions were straight forward.

I tested the Ergo feeder indoors to get the timer set for the right number of feedings for my dogs. I needed a metered feeder because these dogs would empty a regular gravity feeder in no time.

After a week of testing, I went through a 3 hour installation setting the feeder up four feet off the ground and under the cover of a five foot eve, outdoors but under cover. It worked fine for just over two weeks. Then it jammed. Now it won't work for more than a minute or two without jamming. The problem is with the auger drive. I think it has plastic drive gears inside so even if the manufacturer replaced the drive unit, the same problem would happen again. Despite the time invested testing and installing this product, it has to go back.

this product saved me when i had to go out of town for a week. it worked perfectly and did its job. the only problem is finding out how much food comes out for an amount of time but once adjusted it was great !!!!!

This feeder was easy to assemble and to program. We use it to feed our new calves at the Hindu monastery on Kauai. We mounted it to a small table with the calf bucket under it. Three times a day it dispenses the Calf Manna. We don't have to think about it. The calf gets used to the timing and is waiting when the feeder goes on. We are thinking to use one to feed the Koi in the ponds.

Nano Cube 24 Gallon Deluxe

Nano Cube 24 Gallon DeluxeAt first I loved this tank. I had an older 5 gal nano cube from a different company and I bought this to "upgrade". I used the cube for saltwater for my two seahorses and some coral. It was the perfect size and would have been my favorite tank, had it worked.

These animals/coral had lived for a few years in my 5 gal nano. Sadly, they lasted only three months in this new tank before they all died. The tanks had been running for four months, including the initial set up time/cycling of the new tank. I am an avid aquarist who has been raising livestock for several years, so trust me that I did all the normal maintenance you would normally do on a tank, including water changes, cleaning, water testing, etc.

I found the root of the problem and the cause of the crash was the filter. The shaft that holds the propeller in the pump RUSTED and caused the pump to fail. Who designs a pump that RUSTS?????

Also, the design of the filter is flawed and I don't feel it gets enough oxygen in the water. IF you are going to buy this tank for saltwater, use a different pump (one that isn't going to rust on you) and invest in a nano skimmer to increase the oxygen in the water.

My friend had the same nano cube and his crashed after only two months. He doesn't know the source of the problem, but I imagine it is the same situation.

Also, the lid is designed and built really cheap. The front flip lid broke after one month of use.

I imagine this will be just fine for freshwater since it is not as corrosive of an agent as saltwater and may take longer to rust the pump.

You all think YOU have issues with the Nano Cube, ha , you haven't seen nothing yet. I got mine brand new, it took an hour to setup on the stand and fill with water, once i plugged in the lighting smoke and flames (no kidding) came out of the hood! Not only that the ballast also had smoke billowing from it, so don't talk to me about a rusty filter! That is nothing compared to the Nano from Hell! I have lost time, money and my sanity all do to this stupid tank. Oh wait, I forgot, the stand is just as bad because its the worst piece of furniture i have ever had the displeasure of trying to put together. This is the worst decision and investment we have made in all our aquarist years. Please notice that i am not allowed to rate less than 1 but this is a -------0.

This is a great tank for Salt/Fresh water. I've never had fresh water in mine but I have a friend running fresh and he says it's great. I have a Saltwater setup in mine and it has been wonderful as well. The PC lighting on it is good, Bulbs seem to last about 6 months before they need to be replaced. These lights will support most easy care coral (mushrooms, ric's, zoas, hammer/frogspawn) and any fish. The filter is fine for a small bioload and with 1 1.2 lbs/gal of live rock you can keep quite a bit. I've had mine for about a year, here is what I have.

Clean up crew -

4 x nas snails

1 x sand sifting sea star

3 x astra snails

1 x turbo snail

1 x emerald crab

fish -

2 x damsels this is what I started with and the GF won't let me get rid of them

Corals-

1 x Hammer

4 x Ricordia

4 x Mushrooms

some Oulophyllia

and Lots of Zoanthids

**DO NOT PUT A FULL REEF IN THIS AS IT WAS NEVER INTENDED FOR THAT, YOU WILL HAVE TO DO A LOT OF UPGRADES AND IT IS NOT WORTH IT. IF YOU WANT SPS, CLAIMS, HARD CORALS OR A TON OF STUFF START WITH A MORE EXPENSIVE SETUP AND READ READ READ.

My friend purchased this tank a few years ago and developed it for a saltwater tank. It can be tough to use for saltwater, but it is do-able. She made the required equipment upgrades (lighting, etc), and I believe later on the pump did have to be replaced. I am not aware that rust was an issue. It is a beautiful tank with a crystal clear view on three sides. We have noticed one problem: the fish are able to "jump" over the interior back wall, where they end up in the reservoir area with the pump. I've seen it happen a few times, and we have yet to resolve the issue. She keeps corals, red & blue legged hermit crabs, snails, clownfish, and a seahorse.

THIS IS A WONDERFULLY EASY PLUG AND PLAY SETUP. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS FIL UP THE TANK WITH WATER AND PLUG IT IN. IT HAS EVERYTHING BUILT IN SO YOU NO WORRIES IF YOU HAVE EVERYTHING. WHEN SOMEONE HAS A BAD EXPERIENCE THEY FEEL THEY SHOULD SHARE IT WITH THE WORLD. WHEN SOMEONE HAS A GOOD EPERIENCE VERY RARELY DO THEY FIND THE NEED TO SHARE THAT EXPERIENCE. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS AQUARIUM SETUP TO ANYONE OF ANY AGE OR AQUARIUM EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD LIKE AN ALL INCLUSIVE GREAT LOOKING AQUARIUM FOR THE HOME OR OFFICE.

Fluval FX5 External Canister Filter

Fluval FX5 External Canister FilterI've had my Fluval FX5 since summer of 2008 and have been running it non-stop since then on a 125 gallon freshwater aquarium. In 2009 I added a Coralife Turbo-Twist UV Sterilizer (36 W) and my water has been absolutely crystal clear for months at a time (I highly recommend this addition). The few times I've noticed it get a little murky (when the curtain was open and sunlight enhanced algae growth) it was totally clear within 12 hours.

The Fluval FX5 is a great filter but requires regular cleaning (every 1-3 months full filter clean). However, you don't need to replace all of the media each time you clean the filter (which can get really expensive). Instead, you can use a garden hose or similar very strong spray to clean the main filter sponges (around the edges of the filter) and the blue filter pads. The white polishing pad should be replaced regularly. I rinse the bio media in tank water and dechlorinated fresh water to get rid of any chunks of things.

As others have said, expect a tiny bit of water when you close the valves and remove the hoses to move the filter, which makes sense since there's about 2" between the valve shut off and the filter. I keep a towel wrapped around when I remove the hose and have never had an issue with getting my hardwood floors wet.

The filter, when full of media and water is heavy but not too bad. It weighs around 40-50 lbs like that (depending on your media).

I suggest having tube cleaning brushes on hand to clean out the intake and output tubes (the ones in the filter no need to remove the filter tubes from the filter to the aquarium). Otherwise a sponge will clean the inside of the filter perfectly and a strong spray will clean everything else.

When it's running it is incredibly quiet. And as others have said, it's good to note that when you first turn it on it will run for 2 minutes then shut off for 2 minutes then will run for about 24 hours then shut off for two minutes and turn back on. It will do that every 24 hours to remove air in the system.

A few things to note:

This filter has incredible suction, it's made for a 400 gallon tank. Don't place plants or bubble makers anywhere near it or it will suck the plants against and in and the bubbles up (that will make your filter noisy).

If you are breeding anything in your tank, expect to find babies in the filter. I find Corydora catfish in the filter all the time. They're alive and fine, but need to be moved to the main tank rather quickly so clean the filter every month. Thin skinny fish like loaches may be sucked up into the filter if they can't swim fast enough so you may want to put a breeding basket around it to keep them away but not hinder the filter intake.

The media is expensive, but you can make your own rough filter pads (open hole filled black filter media), and carbon bags much cheaper than buying the premade media. However, the rest you'll want to buy real Fluval parts (search for best prices).

Remember to fill it until it's about 1-1.5" from the top before attaching to to the hoses. You don't want the filter to have to work too hard to finish filling. It is self priming but needs that much help to make it work effectively.

If you hear it struggling after you hook it up (and you added enough water) it's because there's too much air in the system, turn it off, wait about 15 seconds, turn it back on. You'll see a huge mass of bubbles come out then it will work fine.

Remember to open the valves once you have it hooked up to the hoses before plugging it in. Yes I've plugged it in and forgotten to open the valves.

Overall I highly recommend this filter for any tanks 100 gallons and greater.

I've been running the FX5 on a 125 gallon turtle setup for about two months now. Setup is very easy, especially if you have previous experience with canister filters. I saw another review that stated that the filter was noisy, but mine is pretty quiet even when the tank stand's door is open and the filter is exposed to the room. My flowrate has been relatively high, especially considering that it is packed with biomax and polishing pads. It is important to note that unlike other Fluval canisters, this beast actually filters water from top down, so you'll want your finer media like polishing pads in the bottom basket.

I docked a star because I am not a big fan of the design of the internal media baskets, nor do I like the cheap plastic 'T' rods that are used to pull them out. Also, despite the stop valves on the intake and outtake hoses, be ready to clean-up water when detaching for routine cleaning.

Although the Eheim Professional Canister Filters are arguably better for certain purposes, you aren't going to beat the value of the Fluval FX5. The features and specs you get are equivalent to several much more expensive filter options.

I got one of these from my local F/S, and it works great. It is very large though, which to me is a good thing. More Water volume which is always a plus with saltwater aquariums. It comes with a DVD that tells you how to set it up. You don't really need the DVD, because it is quite simple to set up and get started. It comes with more than enough hose to do the job. I have the hose coiled around in the bottom of my stand it is so long. Every night it shuts off to let the air bubbles escape and then turn back on. You don't have to do anything to start it. So far their have been no leaks or mechanical failures.

I'll keep it short and to the facts.

The FX5 does everything it is advertised to and is very quiet. I am using it on an 85 gallon freshwater tank stocked with 7 3-4 inch African Cichlids, 10 2 inch clown loaches, 10 tiny convicts, one 6 inch plecostomus, and 2 one inch rays. I only add aquarium salt to the tank and treat the tap water with Aquasafe during 25% water changes once a week; no other chemicals. After running the FX5 for 3 days I tested the water for ammonia (0 ppm), ph (7.5), nitrite (.5 ppm), and nitrate (40 ppm); all within tolerances for an established community tank, albeit a little low for the cichlids.

My conclusion? The FX5 rocks and is well worth the money.

My long journey to this conclusion (in short form)-

I read all of the reviews and ordered an Eheim Pro 3 2180 a couple of months ago. Sent it back immediately because I use salt in the water and that would destroy the internal water heater and subsequently the pump (according to the Eheim technician).

I then ordered an Eheim Pro 3e 2076; it came, it leaked profusely at the pump-to-canister seal (made an incredible mess), tried all of the solutions mentioned in the troubleshooting section of the documentation, called the tech line to no avail, returned the pump for full refund.

I then ordered an Eheim Pro 3e 2078; it came, it leaked profusely at the pump-to-canister seal also, became disgusted at the product quality, returned the unit for a full refund.

I then ordered the Fluval FX5; it came, it worked as stated, I'm very happy!

Hope this helps.

I own four of these filters, the oldest one being in operation and going strong for over 6 years with no issues, noise or otherwise. If you've had problems with yours, you probably got a lemon and should've returned it during the return or warranty period.

These filters have a lot of flow and the motor runs very quiet (remember, I own 4 of them). I use one for a 75 gallon Loggerhead Turtle tank, a 90 gallon Mata Mata tank, a 110 Puntius Barb tank and a 300 gallon monster fish tank in conjunction with sump filtration. If you've ever kept turtles, you know that they are even messier than the largest of fish. But the FX5 keeps my turtle tanks crystal clear and am so glad that they exist. I also own an Eheim Pro3 2080 which I bought around the same time that I bought my first FX5. Eheims are the luxury cars of canister filtration and like luxury cars, you'll pay a premium for them. They'll last you for decades with virtually no problems...unless you get a lemon. But for the money, you cannot beat the Fluval FX5 and it outdoes the Eheim Pro3 in flow and mechanical filtration. The Eheim equivalent to the FX5 is the Eheim 2262. The 2262 is a powerhouse...even more so than the FX5. But.....this filter ranges in price from between $400 and $500!!!

So, if you're on a budget and you need mega filtration, for the money, the FX5 is the filter to consider.

Considering this purchase was for my turtles in their 300 gallon habitat, I did not want to skimp on their heating requirements.

After a rigorous online search, I concluded I'd try this heater out and I'm glad I did! Fully submersible and very easy to operate. It has an analog dial to help you adjust the temperature with two LED's. One LED indicates that it's powered on. The other LED is to let you know when the heater element is doing it's job; when the desired temp has been reached the heater element will shut off. It has three cords coming out of the analog control dial. One cord is the submersible heating unit itself, which you simply place (laying down) in your tank. Another cord is to plug into the wall. The third cord is an external thermometer (no digital or analog reading on it though) to gauge the temperature of the water. Using very cold tap water from the garden hose outside, I filled up my turtles habitat. It took approximately 20 hours to heat up 300 gallons.

It has kept their habit warm since. In fact I've had to turn it down a few notches. Of course there are a few factors/variables that will alter how effectively the heater works (the amount of water you're trying to heat, the outside temperature of your aquarium, etc.)

Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. In fact I just placed an order online for a second unit. That's one thing I'm not too happy about though (but didn't count it against the product rating); was the fact that I can't find this product in Canada. I always have to search for it online. I was using a cheaper aquarium heater to heat up my turtles feeding tank (which is another tank altogether), whose brand name I will not repeat but if you send me a private message and want to know (so you don't make the mistake of buying that cheaper one), I'd be more than happy to share that information with you. But after two days I took it back to the store where I bought it from.

Funny but the more expensive aquarium heater which I purchased online and had more to lose (in return shipping charges) if it was defective or not working the way I wanted it to, worked perfectly whereas the safer bet (the local store bought one) ended up costing me more gas in having to return it. Oh well, just goes to show : there are no safe bets.

Algaefix Marine Water Conditioner

API Algaefix Marine, 8-OunceI always let some mornnig sunlight into my tank to help the plants but after a while the tank water turned so green I couldn't see through one side of the tank to the other. After using this product the algae was completly gone, really fast, in a few hours and the tank was crystal clear and my plants and fish are just fine. I used a small amount and haven't had to use any since.

Good product, does as advertised!

Pros

Controls algae! Cleaned up my tank, could see a difference after the first dose, not only hair algae, but nuisance Fern-like algae as well. I did not experience any Red Slime Algae issues that many reviewers experienced.

Cons

Some of my soft corals have had negative effects; my cabbage coral hasn't opened since the first dose over a month ago. My buttery yellow toadstool coral that used to have green tips is now 2 different shades of brown.

I stopped dosing a few weeks back, and hoping the corals recover.

I fault myself for dosing too long, as I've read it's best to dis-continue after a month of dosing.

Like the title states. Does what it advertises, but a few trade offs.

Hydor Seltz L40 Aquarium Water Pump, 740 gph, 55 W

Hydor Seltz L40 Aquarium Water Pump, 740 gph, 55 WThis pump is a hardy and affordable little pump that I am using to circulate my aquarium saltwater from the sump up to the display tank. It has been running nonstop for about 6 months and it is very quiet. It feels like it is pretty solid and durable and well-made. It pumps very strongly, but I actually thought it would pump a little harder: it is pumping water up about 5 1/4 feet, and while it is enough for my tank while set to ":wide open" I thought that I would have to 'tune it down' because I thought it was going to pump much harder. That being said, This is the smallest pump that I could use in my tank to pump water up a 5 1/4 foot rise.

Lee's Thinwall Rigid Tubing 3/16 in. x 3 feetNone of the local stores carry this anymore so I was happy to find it on Amazon -at a very reasonable price too.

It arrived from the vendor in a long tube box and wrapped in tons of bubble wrap.

They obviously have learned from their mistakes in packaging in the past (see other reviewers) and did a great job with my order. No complaints at all!

This tubing arrived bent in a 180 degree angle in a box that was too small for it. Why not ship it in a poster tube?!!

Luckily I only need a short section to complete my co2 diffuser, but where I'd normally keep the leftover piece for future use, I think I'll have to toss it. What good is this bent up to me? I don't think I should have to resort to heating it to straighten it out like the previous commenter.

This came to me in an unassembled carton. What I mean is that the carton was whole but still flat. That might have worked, but the tubing was bent and kinked. I cut off what I needed and threw out the rest. So, I actually got what I needed, but had I needed the full amount I ordered, I would have been out of luck. In addition, this order took forever to be shipped, so I nearly missed a deadline for the project I ordered it for.

I am writing this summary for the rigid tube pipe. This tubing is use full in a variety of jobs from connecting air line tubing to air line tubing or using for a rigid spacer between air line tubing and air stone, or as an outlet for your air making big bubbles. it is also used as a rigid gude for your air line in an under gravel filter. I am sure it has a dozen or more uses also.

Jungle TB605W Tank Buddies Ammonia Clear, 8-Tablet

Jungle TB605W Tank Buddies Ammonia Clear, 8-TabletWorked like a charm. I have a saltwater aquarium. I took out a quart of water from the aquarium, dropped one tab per 10 gallons (I have a 30 gallon tank = 3 tabs), let the tabs completely dissolve. Then I added the water back into the tank. The next day I tested zero for ammonia.

This product is a bit more expensive per dose than its peers but I think that it works better. If you want to get rid of your ammonia fast then this is the product that you want. Just remember that this is a temporary fix to ammonia buildup.

I hate to use these because it's far healthier for my fish if I just do a proper vacuum and water change as scheduled. That said, if I know they'll have to wait a couple more days then I'll go ahead and use these as directed. The fish don't like it and neither do I, but it doesn't seem to harm them either. When I don't use this product they hold up just fine over those couple days' delay, so I truly don't think it's necessary to buy these. When I use it, it's to pretend that I'm doing something constructive for my poor fish but the truth is I've dropped the ball and they're swimming in ammonia because the tank needs a cleaning and dropping these Ammoniea Clear tablets only irritate them in addition to the ammonia-loaded water. I've noticed no noticeable improvement in water appearance or fish health from using these so I don't recommend buying these. I don't plan on buying them again. 2 stars instead of just 1 because I don't HATE these, I just don't like them.

Exo Terra Turtle Bank Magnetic Floating Island

Exo Terra Turtle Bank Magnetic Floating Island, SmallThis floating island is aesthetic and is made of good quality material. The magnets are strong and will adjust to the water level, since the magnets stick from the exterior of the tank, you don't have to worry about your turtles being unable to reach the rock when the water level decreases.

My turtles love the different height levels on the rock. I would highly recommend this product.

My small slider loves this dock. The magnets are strong enough on my 10 gallon tank and even worked on a bowed plastic tank with a two inch gap of air between the plastic and the dock. I love being able to adjust the position of the dock without putting my hands in the tank by simply sliding the magnets around the glass. I plan on purchasing this dock again, perhaps in a larger size as my turtle grows.

My turtle is about 7-8 inches long and he appears to be too heavy. The rock is big enough to hold him, but when he gets on it, the magnets that hold it to the glass pop off and he and the rock float away. I hope turtles can't develop self-esteem issues.

I bought the medium size one of these when my two red nosed sliders were babies. There was plenty of room and worked amazing. Plus the magnets work incredible, especially compared to the docs that have suction cups (which I have used and hated). The only thing I would suggest to those that buy this product is that if you have two turtles you should probably just go ahead and buy the large one instead of the medium one. If you only have one turtle then the medium one is probably fine.

Several minutes are required for the mercury to vaporize before the bulb can do its thing.

Bought two.

Depends what you are looking for, It is nothing like the "artificial" coral and fake replica's that they make now a days. This is a hard plastic 2 dimensional (very thin) two pieces.

I love unique decorations in my small quadrivium and this little piece of coral is that. And a great icy blue color, too.

These are nice sized, lightweight, and make a great colorful set in my beach themed room. Was shipped well packed and fast too. You'll love the color, it is true to the photo here, blue but not loud or garish. I placed mine on a bookshelf instead of aquarium!

EcoPlus 2 Air Pump, 2 Outlets

EcoPlus 2 Air Pump, 2 OutletsI have been using the air pump continuously for about a month without issues. Puts out an impressive flow for the power consumption and low cost. The flow can be varied over a wide range. Seems to be well manufactured.

It would be nice if there was an easy way to attach an inlet tube to the intake on the pump to draw dry air into a high humidity environment from outside of the humidified zone in my application.

I've had it for about a month now with no problems. About as quite as I could ask for. I like the ability to adjust the air flow. I do wish I could turn off one of the ports, since I only need one.

The air pump on our 1 gallon tank quit after about six months. I've been itching to set up a 5 gallon tank we have. It comes with a filter but I thought a 6" stone would be a nice effect. I was initially concerned when ordering because a review writes about this unit not generating enough air for that size stone. Well, I hooked both tanks up and at the LOWEST setting, the 6" stone in the 5 gallon tank emits a maelstrom! I'm going to try servicing both tanks with a t-bar off ONE of the outlets to see if I can end up with a gentler effect. Will advise if this works, but in the interim, my impression is that this pump is probably best suited to a tank that's > 20 gallons. It is a very sturdy unit and is about the size of 4 sticks of butter. It seems quite quiet at the lowest setting and not much louder at the highest.

The most powerful pump I've ever bought for that price. The pressure control valve makes it convenient for increasing and decreasing the volume of bubbles in the tank. It's quiet, sturdy with an attractive appearance. Highly recommend this pump.
