API Reef Master Test Kit
I have used Salifert, Elos, Redsea and a bunch of others. While it's really hard to guage the accuracy of all these kits, one can assume at least +/10% readings. With the API kit I see small enough changes reflected in the readings to give me confidence that it's within the ball Park of ELOS and Salifert, so at a the current price API is a clear winner. I also like that these tests are simpler to preform than most of the others, so thats a real plus. When combined with the Saltwater Master Test Kit, these kits provide all the tests that a beginning reef master could want. I am using these tests in a 40 gallon breeder reef tank, and so far they have been easy to use and reliable. The only complaint I have is that they are sometimes hard to read on certain tests. It is hard to decipher the different levels from one another if they are close.Still, I would definitely recommend this kit to anyone that has a reef tank.

Simply put having a test kit is essential for any reef aquarium keeper. I only have a 28-gallon tall aquarium with just soft corals, a feather duster, a few damsels & a couple of cleaner shrimp. The API Reef Master Kit is well packaged and everything is labeled very clearly. I sometimes have difficulty interpreting the nitrate and phosphate tests as the results are limited to viewing color code charts of different shades of green and orange. For example when I conduct the test for nitrates, my resulting shade of green from my test tube is in the range of .50 to 1.0 as my best guess instead of .50 or 1.0.The instructions are very well written and easy to follow although I can't help, but notice API's intentional attempt at product placement by their brand. For example if your test kit yields a high result for phosphates, the instructions recommends that you purchase & use API's Phos-Zorb to help reduce phosphates in addition to conducting water changes & removing waste. If you have low calcium levels you can use API's Eco Calcium Marine to increase calcium levels. If your nitrates are high you can use API Tap Water Filter to help reduce nitrates in addition to water changes & the removal of waste.
Some other reviewers have complained about the absence of the ammonia test, but I have already owned API's ammonia test kit (with its different shades of yellow test results chart) that I used when I initially cycled my aquarium, so adding the reef master kit just supplemented to what I already have. Didn't need the instructions help to buy another API product for ammonia testing because I already did.
Overall an adequate test kit for the very important task of truly knowing what's in your aquarium water (or at least ballpark figure ranges) to help your corals, fish & invertebrates thrive successfully.great solution for monitoring your tank parameters. accurate meters also. the price here cant be beat. i'm so thankful that i can get a deal here. but yah, this product is greata must have if you want to keep an eye on your water to keep your reef smiling.Would be an excellent kit. However, mine did not come with color charts. Called API. Supposed to get in mail. Also, this kit is needed in conjunction with saltwater test kit. Wish it was one complete set.
Aquatic Creations Artificial Live Rock 3 Aquarium Ornament
Its a really good natural ornament for any fish tank. I put it In one of my South American Biotope tanks and the fish in there love it! Also, you can put an airstone under the sand under the ornament at the effects are stunning! One of the features of this item is that when put under a UV "black" light, it has some interesting highlights. I have had more than one for several years and the colors have not faded atall, as some are prone to do.Tetra Crescent Acrylic Aquarium Kit
My Betta fish looks extremely happy into this 3g tank; I just regret I didn't buy the 5g version. The Whisper Micro Filter works SO good, it has a Flow Control system which allows me to select a very low flow, perfect for bettas!
Unfortunately, the tank comes with a "medium" size filter, which is way TOOOOO big for the small tank. I know there is a "small" version of the Whisper Micro Filter, so I don't understand why Tetra didn't bundle it with this tank instead of the Medium size. :-S
The tank itself looks crystal clear, acrylic made, very resistant, and easy to clean. I recommend you to buy a special acrylic cleaner sponge since regular sponges will scratch it.
I was speechless when I first turned the LED Lighting Lamp ON, it is magnificent! Perfect room lightning at night. LEDs technology is awesome, it doesn't only lights better, but it saves a lot of energy compared to regular bulbs.
I love all Tetra products! They are definitely the best.Don't get me wrong by the three stars. This tank is great but the filter set up is not a good one. The design of the items for the tank make everything fit perfectly. There is even a slot for a heater cord. The problem is the filter mount when used has the top of the filter to high in the tank so that the top of the filter is the same level with the top of the open tank thus can SLOWLY leak water along the mount to the outside of the tank. Bottom line is use the suction cups only and you will be happy. Had I really known about how this filter worked I would have gone with something like a fluval U1 or U2.

As a first aquarium, it's pretty terrible. As a tank purchased purely for the fun of experimentation, with the hopes of re-homing some guppies, it's decent, and I don't regret the purchase. (I agree with the folks who say that bigger is better, for your first. Three gallons is harder to maintain, and is very, very limiting when it comes to fish selection, if you want them to live in a comfortable, happy environment. This tank has other problems, though, so if you are looking for your first aquarium, keep reading.)The filter (Tetra Whisper Micro, not 3i ... good luck finding cartridges) is half-way decent, and it is inevitably, being made of plastic, had marks in it. After cutting the surge protector on and off, the filter only half worked and I had to move it up to full power (no, do not run your filter on full power this is why people are having trouble with it and set it low on the hook). The hook is covering a suction hole remember this when you take it out for any reason, or you will have water everywhere. Don't use it without the hook, or the filter will sit on the bottom, and that's where its intake is located.
I am hoping a small power filter, such as the one Azoo makes, will fit the space. I haven't measured to be sure, yet. If not, I suppose I'll use a small sponge filter ("Lee's Round Dual-Action Foam Filter" is sold by Amazon, as are replacement sponges, and is supposed to be good for tanks up to 5gal UPDATE: I am now using this filter, and I like it a lot better). The given filter takes up a lot of space if you plan on putting any ornaments in. I just want plants. I might put a small shelter in.
That all being said, I have mine set up as a low-light dirted environment (more gravel, less dirt under the filter), and my microsword is relatively happy (it needs a stronger light, but at least it is growing). I would recommend this as a functional, but not perfect, guppy tank. It's bright, attractive, and retains some moisture in the form of condensation.
I would use light-colored substrate. Don't use sand, as the filter will likely suck it up. I have dark blue, red, and green gravel, and it just absorbs all the light. If I were to start it over, I would try white or beige gravel, or Caribsea's Torpedo Beach substrate, as it looks like it will be very attractive, and seems like it might be heavy enough to not be sucked up. I'm using Sunset Gold sand, now, in another tank, and I like it. Maybe some more plants or some decoration will brighten it up.
As for the top of the tank, yes, it does fit after water is added. It comes off easily enough; though, for maintenance purposes, the light needs to come off, as well. I would *not* use this tank without the lid. There would be nothing to protect the LEDs from condensation, and I have already, on a past setup, lost a tank light (an incandescent, which I do not wish to ever own again) to such cheap construction. The lid is specifically designed for the given filter, and has a hole on the other side of the light (which you mount to the tank), should you wish to add a heater (Hydor's Mini 7.5 Watt, for 2-5 gallons, is probably the only thing that will fit it works to a set number of degrees on top of what you have, so monitor). This could also be a good entry hole for piping, such as for air or a DIY CO2 system.
The pictures are deceptive: the light comes all the way to the feed hole and pretty much covers the top of the tank. It is a bright but bulky thing, and for the brightness, has no power. Good for energy, medium-to-low level for plants.

This 3 gallon tank has been great. The filter is very quiet, but is very powerful. The tank has not required much cleaning because the filter is rated for tanks much bigger than 3 gallons. The downside is that the filter itself is big, so it takes up more room in the tank. The shape of the tank allows for a great presentation, but it does not take up much room. The only complaint I have with the tank is the the top that is provided does not fit on very easily. Overall a great small tank!!!Want Tetra Crescent Acrylic Aquarium Kit Discount?
I just got this tank a few days ago, and so far I like it a lot for my betta. He seems to be happy with all the extra space, and it is an attractive setup. I have to say that based on other reviews there are apparently two versions of this tank. Mine is a Marineland Crescent, some others have reviewed an Eclipse kit. It appears the Eclipse unit has the filter installed in the hood. My Marineland kit came with a Whisper filter that is WAY too big for this tank. It seems to function well, but blows my betta around the tank and he stays to the side opposite the filter while it is running. It seems absurd that Tetra didn't put a smaller filter with this kit. Unless I can ever find a small filter that works well and is gentle enough for a betta, my fish will have to deal with this huge filter a couple hours a day so his water can be cleaner. Also, if you use the clip to hang the filter over the edge of the aquarium, it is too high, making it sit above the water level. You will need to remove the clip, and use the suction cups so you can position the filter lower. The kit comes with an extra suction cup for the top half of the filter, but it does not fit in the hole so you will need to stick something in it, like a key, to widen it out enough to fit the suction cup. The top lid fits just so-so, but does provide ample opening to fit even the big filter plus a heater, so the lid doesn't sit on top of the cords. There is also an open area toward the front of the lid to feed the fish. The LED lighting is bright and provides a pleasing view of the aquarium. For installing the light fixture, there are two screws provided to attach the clamp. Be careful not to twist the screws too tight. I did screw one in too tight, which caused a little crack in the aquarium. This is an an excellent tank so far, but can't give it 5 stars because of the ridiculously big filter.***UPDATE 6/29/12*** The other day while re-positioning the filter, I discovered that there is actually a switch on the back of the filter at the bottom that allows you to adjust the flow-which I obviously missed before. I set it at minimum and my betta seems mostly ok with it on. I'm going to run it most of the day, and turn it off at night so he can sleep well...and see how that goes.
***UPDATE*** 8/8/12 A few weeks ago I took out the big Tetra filter, and replaced it with the Azoo Mignon Filter, which I bought on Amazon. It sits outside the tank, has adjustable flow, is very quiet, and is easy maintenance. When set the right way, there is practically no current from the flow and I leave it running 24/7. Strongly recommend it.
Prime, 2 L / 67.6 fl. oz.
I have been keeping fish for 30+ years.Just about every major manufacture and boutique specialty company has a water conditioning and treatment product. I can't say I've tried them all, but close too it. Some products have at the least, minimal effectiveness while others can be potentially dangerous. An example would be Stress Coat which has binding sugar strands in the Aloe. This isn't a problem unless one of your fish has a small scratch or wound. The sugar feeds the bacteria which can lead to major infection and dire consequences.I've been using Amquel for years and it's a fine conditioner, excellent at removing chlorine, and Chloramines, but like all these products they come with limitations.
With one exception and that's Prime by Seachem.
Prime doesn't just remove the chlorine and Chloramine it does much more:
* Detoxifies any and all heavy metals in your tap water
(you can call your water company directly for a list of them and PPM)
* Neutralizes Ammonia
* Neutralizes Nitrite
* Neutralizes high Nitrate to non toxic levels
* Removes toxic gases
* Will not foam or change PH
* Helps regenerate natural slime coat
I bleach a lot of coral and Prime is indespensible in removing every trace of ammonia and caustic bleach it also cuts down the rinsing cycle by hours which saves a great deal of water while ensuring the safety of the fish. In addition to the outstanding, patented formula of Prime it couldn't be more economical to use. This 2 L bottle will treat a whopping 20,000 gallons of water. A tiny bit goes a long, long way.
It should also be noted that in times of emergency the dose can be increased five times, Prime is harmless to fish. It's the only product of it's kind, and towers above any other water treatment on the market. If your an aquarium hobbyist be it novice or advanced I would urge you to add a bottle of Prime to your arsenal of fish care products. Your finned friends will thank you for it.
Not to mention this is the best deal on Prime I've ever seen this usually sells for around $100 and of you're ordering online expect to pay around $14.95 for shipping. This is priced at 60% off and if you have a Prime Membership (Amazons Prime not the Seachem Prime) you get two day free shipping to boot.Treats 20,000 gallons.
Really.
What more needs to be said?
Well, I guess I can say it works perfectly, and I've never had unhappy fish in any of my tanks when doing water changes.

I love Prime. It is the best water conditioner out there. You get so much more for your money, especially when you buy the large size. I have a 180 gallon tank, two 55s and a number of smaller tanks and have only had to buy this one 2L bottle once while doing weekly, 80%+ water changes. I detoxifies ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Making it great for cycling and keeping your fish safe. It does get stinky though.I honestly will only ever buy Prime as my water conditioner.

If you want to treat your water for chlorine, chloramine, nitrites, Prime is the best.If you use API Ammonia test kit, you will get a false positive for ammonia!! Prime binds to ammonia and makes it non toxic so the bacteria in the tank can use it but it's harmless to the fish. API's test kit does not differentiate between bound ammonia and free ammonia and will give you a positive result which can cause issues.
Use Seachem's Multi-Test Ammonia to get a proper result for free and bound ammonia. There may be another test kit that will work You can do a bit of research to find one.
I have spoken to professionals, breeders, and I'm a member of an aquatic club that has a few professionals and they all use Prime...
If it's good enough (and recommended) by the experts, it's good enough for me.
Lastly, Seachem products in general seem to be a higher grade than others. I use their Excel, Flourish, Matrix, and Purigen. My experience is that they go out of their way to provide the best product they can.I think Prime is the best chlorinator out that and 2L will last me for ages. note: the picture shown is not the 2L bottle which is much larger.

Eshopps WD-75CS Wet Dry Filter - 10 to 75 gallons - 18 in. x 10 in. x 16 in.
So I bought this filter a few days ago. This is the first wet dry filter I've bought, though many of my friends have or have had wet drys in the past. I finally had time to install it today. The instructions that come with the filter are pretty horrible; it looks like a 5 year old drew a picture of a wet dry filter and added captions. Luckily I've seen enough wet/drys in my life to know how it works and how it should be put together. I paired it with a marineland NJ1800 pump with variable flow and with a max flow rate of 474 gph. I figure since I have to lift the water up a few feet from the sump that would be close to the 300 gph of the overflow box.The filter went in without much issue. I had a clearance issue but thats not an issue with the filter so i had to trim the pvc inserts they give you for the overflow line. Also perhaps my pump is too powerful but the output nozzle from the filter needed a clamp as it would constantly leak. I trimmed my lines to size and so far no problems. The pump is running full open and the overflow box seems to keep up without much issue. I had a issue with the u-tube having an air bubble in it and for the life of me I was unable to get it out but I poured a lot of water in the overflow box and it pushed the bubble out. The reason I give this 4 stars was because of the leaking of the nozzle and the poor instructions.
The pre-marked waterline is deffinetly a plus as I don't want to spend all day trying to figure out the best water level. So far I like the filter and will write another review after a few weeks. That review will be mainly about performance of the filter once its been run for longer than a few hours.I love this system I had to do a lil modification to fit my needs but it works great I bought a longer return tubing put in on a ball valve to control the water because my pump was pumping water quicker than it was filling in the w/d all in all recommend it

TOM TM1198 Aquarium Hatch N' Feeder Brine Shrimp Hatchery
I purchased this thinking how wonderful it would be to feed my fish fresh brine shrimp. I should have listened to the guy on a youtube video showing how to make your own brine shrimp hatchery. I did after the fact. The one I made works better. This thing looks hi tech but it doesn't work very well. The amount of shrimp produced is adequate but the delivery system is weak. Very little comes out. The only good thing is the mini Turkey baster they give you to do your own feedings. I still use that with my home made hatchery. Complete waste of money. This thing is not small.. It might look like it but it is almost 9" tall and % 1/2" in depth..
But it works.. If your water conditions are within range you can see the baby shrimps after 16 hours.
Sometimes the salty water can be mixed into the fish tank which is not nice so you need to be careful when removing the hatchery from you tank to avoid mixing the salty water.
Also the piece that connects the suction piece and the hatchery doesn't perform that good. I understand you have to be able to dislodge it but its grip is too low. If there is movement in the water you can see the hatchery moving with the water.
Other bad side is the outlet..There is nothing wrong with the outlet but my 3 mollies in the tank figured out where the shrimps are coming from and they literally guard the outlet which the baby shrimps are released to the tank. :)
The sure enjoy it a lot. Other than the size the hatchery is OK.

Good 'ol sea monkeys. The hatchery works great I use it in a 75 gallon with 3 red eared sliders, a dozen or so large goldfish and a dozen plecos.
I figured I'd give my goldfish something to do through the day besides swim away from slow turtles, and randomly eating a sea monkey seemed like a good idea.
Mess is minimal, cleanup isn't hard. All byproduct 'gook' is left in the hatchery, wash it and scrub a little and it's good as new.
The suction cup is STRONG, I need a flat object just to unstick it... however the clip which holds onto the hatchery isn't that secure.
If your tank is filled with docile fish, it'll be fine, but if you've got something larger, like a few lumbering turtles, it can relatively easily be knocked out of the clip.
Overall, great product. I'd buy another one for any tank I have in the future to keep the sea monkey cycling up.

This light has worked perfectly for my 4 gallon planted shrimp aquarium. Its bright enough for the plants to grow but not too bright as to encourage algae growth. This is a real nice tank & being glass puts it in a class by itself. It has a great light which is good for reefs or live freshwater plants, the only thing is it could have a better filter, just my opinion, but it left my water cloudy, I put in a canister filter and its now gin clear!. But the over all tank is really nice, I am on here cause I'm buying another one.I used this aquarium in my college dorm and it was great. The blue light though not too bright was definitely good for plant growth. I only gave it four stars because this aquarium does not come with a lid. I solved the problem by going to a local glass shop and ordering a custom fitted lid.Danner 02519 Mag Drive Model 1.9 190 GPH Statuary Pond Pump with 10-Foot Cord
I purchased this as a replacement for one that failed after a short time. I was trying to replace with the same pump, but that was a mistake, because the new one has already failed too. Poor design! The problem is with the little plastic shaft and its cog that engages a cog in the shaft sleeve of the impeller. There is play and *they do not fully mesh*, so after a month or two, the plastic sleeve just breaks from wear and the impeller stops spinning. I found that I could put the pieces together with a dose of superglue (making the whole assembly solid) and that got the broken pumps to work... for now, but there is no way I can recommend this pump. Be forewarned! This went from super loud to broke in a matter of 3 days. This product blows harder than a humback whale coming to the surface after hours under the water.

I bought this pump 2 years ago. The impeller failed after one year the ridges on the shaft had worn down. I replaced it for about $12. After 10 months the replacement also failed. I bought another one, and it failed after 3 months. I glued the rotor blade to the impeller and it worked for a while. Now the motor has failed. Poor design. Not recommended.By comparison, I had bought a larger Little Giant pump (1150 gph)for a larger pond, and it has been running without problems for more than 10 years!Very good pump for our front fountain....I put it in a filter bag to keep it from clogging.

So I was surprised with the quick delivery to my house, but pretty much everything failed. I opened it and pinched the hose to see how tough the plastic was, it wasn't tough at all, and 2 minutes later when I try to use the thing to clean my tank I get a leak in the hose right where I had pinched it. The pump, well, it works, if you hold it so the open end is up when you squeeze, the plastic piece that allows suction to be possible is extremely cheap and I wouldn't expect it to last long. Also there is nothing written in english on the directions. This thing could be usable if you don't plan on messing with the actual hose, but its such cheap plastic don't be surprised if it gets a leak, a slight pinch of the hose was enough to make the plastic crease. I was really trying to show the previous reviewers up by making this thing work flawlessly, needless to say that didn't happen. Not worth 5 bucks folks. Its good for a quick water change but it has zero suction as a vacuume and once your down to the last 5 inches of water in the bottom of the tank it doesn't work at all. be aware when buying this it is only 1 carbon pack. i thought it was 3, i did not pay attention. other than that the product was fine.I don't know if buying the carbon in a one pack is the same as buying it in the 3 pack, but the 3 pack carbon I bought from Aquaclear had an eerie odor when I opened the packages. I am using this on my reef tank for my lighting. As mentioned previously there are 2 day receptacles and 2 night receptacles. The timer alternates between the two ( one on ,one off). There are also 4 continuous power receptacles.I did not find the timer hard to program. There is a small replaceable battery in the back of the unit used for keeping the timer accurate if power is lost.My only complain as with most power strips is that they allow only enough space between the receptacles for a common
plug and not a/c converters.
As to the one review about the timer not working. I had mine fail after about 3 weeks. However I simply called the
customer service number given on the instructions. They acknowledged that occasionally a unit has these problems and they sent me a whole new unit free of charge. No complaints here. The warranty is 12 months. This timer sounds like a great idea, battery backup, controls daylights and nightlights on reef tank, great idea crappy product. This timer's battery backup dosent work, not sure if they sent it with dead watch style battery or what but it dosent work and it is screwing up timer itself. Had to completely remove battery to get timer to function. I have had it just over two weeks and had to reset this timer 5 times. Came back two days last week to a dark reef tank. Wouldnt buy this brand ever again.

This is even good for parrots and birds as it can be used to provide a mister only during the day and heating at night in cold climates or a night time viewing light.

Eheim AEH2073370 Aquarium Pro 3-Filter for 2073 Model
I bought the Pro 3 2075 brand new in Sept 2012 that came with a 3 year warranty. The filter leaked after 2 years destroying my $350 wooden stand. Water leaked out near the power cord. After searching the net I found out that this was a common issue among Pro 3 filters made before Aug 2010. There have also been countless reports of Eheim's Customer Support department ignoring customer emails when contacted for warranty claims.I emailed them and immediately the next day I received a reply asking for the Serial number, the shipping address and the retail store from which I bought the filter. I replied with the information and that was the last I heard from them. I have sent them 4 more emails since then and they completely ignored them. I have been another victim of their scam.
Apparently Eheim is engaging in fraudulent acitivities, marketing their filters as "Premium" products that come with a 3 year warranty. However, they will try their best NOT to honor the warranty. Maybe I need to call them everyday and write nasty letters to get them to acknowledge my issue. I know some of their victims have received a replacement head unit this way after sending threatening emails and making repeated phone calls. However, it shouldn't have to be this difficult.
I have another Pro 2 filter that also leaked after 6 years of operation. From what I have heard, the company was bought and the quality of customer service has become horrible since then. It is now reaching the point of fraud.
I will never buy another Eheim product again. Beware!!!Works great on my wife's Goldfish Tank (There are dirty little bugers)

I've owned two eheim canister filters the most recent being the Pro3. Both were disappointing! While they do have lots of room for media when they work they work well. The problem is that they are difficult to prime and in my experience they were nothing but a problem. Both units failed to maintain flow. The unit would be operating normally producing a good steady flow. I would come back a few hours later and it would be coming out in a trickle. I would reset and again it would produce a nice flow. Few hours later a trickle. I contacted tech support requesting assistance in trouble shooting the problem...no response after several attempts. I'm done. I'm done with eheim! I'll never buy one again.Want Eheim AEH2073370 Aquarium Pro 3-Filter for 2073 Model Discount?
I've had this filter for over a year. Recently had a problem where I could not get the nozzles to eject from the motor head. This was very frustrating I had moved the lever to the release position, pushed on the red button, and the nozzles would not pop off. I eventually tore the entire filtering system out of the tank and brought the whole set up to the sink to take a closer look at the problem. After a frustrating couple of days, I did find an Eheim sales rep and she told me that when reinserting the nozzle fixture back into the motor, the lever on the motor needs to be totally in the release position (not half way, not partial way). If the lever is not entirely in the release position, pushing the nozzle fixture into the motor will cause misloading and you will never be able to get the nozzles out of the motor again. End of story need to get an entirely new motor head! I looked on the Eheim site and never saw any reference to this problem. Anyway, just a fyi. I got my motor replaced for no charge and now I am very careful when inserting the nozzles back into the motor. Don't rush and make the same mistake I did. Other than this problem, I love this canister filter. It is my first and I hope the last filter I will ever need. Filtration is fantastic, prefilter works great, and I can get this thing cleaned out and attached back to the tank with little effort and no mess.Anchor Hocking Classic Drum Style Fish Bowl
I wish I would have read somewhere that this is only half a gallon. It would have been amazing if it was a gallon. It looks nice but too small.Just be aware that this is a "drum style" bowl with two flat sides, not a round one like is shown in the picture.Buy Anchor Hocking Classic Drum Style Fish Bowl Now
My 4-year old wanted a fish, so we got him a Beta and he named it Soggy (no kidding, he picked the name). I bought this bowl becuase it was the right size, a decent price and MADE IN THE USA. The packaging was excellent. Now I just need to figure out how to train my 4-year old to change the water every week...Read Best Reviews of Anchor Hocking Classic Drum Style Fish Bowl Here
Tetra Glofish Kit 10 Gallon
Although everything that came with the tank was in excellent working condition, the tank itself was completely shattered upon arrival. I understand that accidents happen, and was no more than slightly disappointed with the quality of the tank, until I called the tank customer service(not through amazon itself, it was a third party sender, and amazons custom service was as helpful as I could have hoped for) and the third party sender claimed that they no longer offered this product and could not send me a replacement. They did though, refund my purchase in full, so I guess that's as much as I could ask for. It was just a bit of a bummer being that this tank was a gift for some one else. The filter works, the led lights works and is very bright. A lot of people have been complaining about the canopy saying that it doesn't fit and their isn't space for the light and filter. This is because you cut the the plastic piece that you have attached to the the glass part of the canopy.Once you cut some holes out of the plastic part for the filter and lights, the canopy will fit perfectly. On the box with the canopy it says something along the lines of "cut to fit". It would help if it said a little more than that.
But it took more time than it should for me to get mine. First I ordered one from petsmart.com (after I went to 5+stores in search of a Glofish 10 gallon kit) it came a short time after that but It was shattered (you could tell it was before even opening the box), we sent it back with the ups guy. He also told us it was best not to ship things that.
We went to a petsmart (i was gonna buy everything separate) but surprisingly they had the kit that I wanted so I bought it. I got home, set everything up, and then found the canopy was broken. We returned the canopy and got another one free of charge.
