Exotic Environments Nile Crocodile Skull Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Nile Crocodile Skull Aquarium Ornament, Small, 3-Inch by 6-Inch by 2-1/2-InchThis has grey and brown paint on it. When I initially cleaned it (before use) in my sink, I noticed the paint coming off. I used a scrub brush and most all of the paint came off, turning the water in the sink cloudy. After several scrubbings and changing the water, it quit shedding paint. Didn't look as cool following the paint removal. It's been in my aquarium for several months now, and no paint issues tank and fish are fine. I's collected its own natural "patina" from algea, etc, and now looks fine (about the way it did with the paint). Has a hollow upper portion and my Dinosaur Bicher and Brown Loach Eels reside in there. My plecostomii like to hang out in the sheltered mouth area. It's a good decoration just be sure to get all the loose paint off prior to use. I'd recommend...with caution.

I love the way this thing looked in my tank, but had to remove it! I took it out to as I was cleaning the aquarium and noticed a stong chemical-like odor coming from it. I have a lot of experience with aquariums, and of all the strange smells I have encountered this was different, bad... and unnatural. :( Very sad cause it looked awesome, now it's on our bookcase...

It is very nice addition to my 10 gal aquarium. Would recommend this. I have baby fish that hide under the skull. In fact, I use it primarly to hold down a air stone that wants to float to the top.The bubbles coming from the croc head are fun to watch. I saw one at Walmart, price was just about the same.

We had to get this for one of our tanks when we saw it. It doesn't disappoint! Rather realistic and a good size, the fish love to swim in and out all the holes and our large pleco makes a habit of hanging from the roof of the skull's mouth. Definitely recommend it :)

Lee's Kritter Keeper, Medium Rectangle w/Lid, Label

Lee's Kritter Keeper, Medium Rectangle w/Lid, LabelThis size kritter keeper holds about three gallons of water. I've found it makes a good hospital tank for ill fish. Its the perfect size so dispensing medications is more cost effective. Plus, you can route in a penn plax smallworld filter (minus carbon, because that takes medication out of the water). Sick fish need aeration, and it works in this small tank.

Never, ever make this kritter keeper a home for goldfish. Contrary to popular belief, goldfish need lots of water to make up for the massive amount of waste they produce. This size would be alright for a betta (who should never have less than a gallon of water, again, contrary to popular belief), maybe a trio of guppies if you have a filter.

This kritter keeper is great, as long as you know how to properly use it.

I recommend this product for keeping pets that don't gnaw or chew like crickets, small tarantulas, hermit crabs and ,my favorite, walking sticks. I am using the 8 Kritter Keepers I bought to start rare seeds indoors in pots. The clear door between the carry handles allows me to see from the top how my seedlings are doing and work inside the Kritter Keeper. The lids come in 6 colors all of which are bright and cheery. When not in use they can be cleaned and stacked together. I love my Kritter Keepers!

I recently bought a second crowntail Betta named Osiris as a next door neighbor for my red veiltail Betta Anubis. At the time, I only had a half gallon bowl to house Osiris. I knew it was only going to be a temporary home for Osiris. As a Betta lover, I would never house my fish in anything less than a gallon permanently. Unfortunately I do not have that much room in my tiny one bedroom apartment myself so I thought the medium Kritter Keeper would be ideal for Osiris. With the addition of blue gravel and a few plastic plants, my Betta is now thriving in his new home. He has lots of room to swim around which is a vast improvement from that dinky plastic bowl I had kept him in, or the plastic cup he was in at the pet store where I bought him. As for changing his water, I never pick up the tank by the handle. It is best to carry it by the tank itself. As someone who lives by herself in a small one bedroom apartment with not a lot of surface space with two male Bettas, I certainly can recommend the Kritter Keeper for people in similiar situations who owns Bettas. Osiris loves his new home. He has already blown a bubble nest in it.

I have owned similar items over many years. These are very expensive where I live and I was happy to find them on Amazon.com for a reasonable price with free shipping. For those unhappy with the cover colors, it does say in the description that colors are "assorted." These are plastic, so one has to take care that they are not dropped or scratched with hard objects. Also the handles are not meant for heavy lifting; these can be easily lifted from their bottoms without the stretch and distortion common to thin-walled plastic containers.

That being said, I received two of these and both have stood up well. The bases are sturdy, despite being filled with water for my bettas. The covers securely snap to the bases. The central opening also snaps securely. I have owned other brands of kritter keepers and the central openings were not secure so that I had to place a heavy objects on the tops to keep my critters from escaping.

My bettas enjoy the space. It's true that bettas can be kept in small containers but they become lethargic and depressed. I "upsized" their swimming area, added a few more floating plants (alas, plastic ones), and they've come to life. I've been rewarded with bettas that swim and strut their glorious fins and colors.

Although the dimensions say 11.9 x 7.8 x 8.1 inches, the dimensions of the actual plastic tank (not including the cover) are 11 x 6.5 x 6 inches. This is equal to 1.85 gallons. I was expecting a tank that could hold around 3 gallons because I foolishly used the dimensions listed here. I noticed that my tank could hold less than 2 gallons when I was doing a water change and noticed I had only siphoned out 1 gallon of water and the water level was under the halfway point in the tank. Other than that this is a pretty good tank if used temporarily for a sick fish, like I am doing.

Python Brass Adapter for Aquarium

Python Brass Adapter for AquariumCleaning my aquarium is much easier with this product and and the brass adapter is very durable and resists stripping.

If I had known that Python now ships with a brass adapter I wouldn't have ordered one bowever it's always good to have a back up and I keep it for my tanks that are on a different level of the house.

Python has been around for just about as long as I've been keeping fish which is over 35 years. I haven't used one in decades but decided to get a new one and check out the improvments. Not much has changed but the brass adapter is a major step up from the old plastic one. Those wouldn't last very long, the threads would strip away entriley after a few uses an the seal was never complete enough to stop water from spraying everyplace but it STILL beat carrying around those buckets!

This adpater is pretty universal and should fit most any faucet. Theres amale and female side, if you have a diffuser or water saver on your faucet simply remove it and pop this one in and you're good to go.

I lost my other adapter that took forever to find in a hardware store with the help of two employees. I wan't sure if this would work on our laundry sink since the threading is so small but it did! Great high quality adapter. It's too bad that the plastic Python Aquarium Replacement Pump that this attaches to was not made stronger as well.

Great fixture, well worth it for the money. Love the LED's, the individual reflectors and the single power cord. Good Buy.

ViaAqua 12in 2.7 watt Blue & White LED Light & Airstone

ViaAqua 12in 2.7 watt Blue & White LED Light & AirstoneThe ViaAqua in tank led light strips are sensational. Up lighting adds an entire new dimension to aquascaping and allows you to create many stunning, creative and unique effects. In the past I tried a similar product made by Marineland whose products I usually love. But the problem with their light strips is that they're so light and the suction cups so little that the wands kept popping loose and floating to the surface.

Or my fish could dislodge them easily with a single nudge. That's not the case here. The ViaAqua units are quite heavy and the large, powerful suction cups are attached to moveable, braces that wrap around 3/4 of the wand. The end result is they stay put beautifully. Even my 8 inch Blue Oranda can't make them budge and THAT'S saying something.

I have two of the all blue in one 55 tank and decided to try two of the blue and white 12" wands in another. The effect is simply gorgeous.I run both wands with a Rena 400 air pump which is more than able to create a steady flow of beautiful and uniform bubbles. The pump has two outputs and each is fully adjustable so you can go from a delicate flow of bubbles to a full throttle air curtain.

More than simply a visually stunning and unique addition to your tank the aeration infuses your water with more much needed oxygen. One common annoyance with most of these double service air wands is that they clog easily and fairly often.A quick remedy is to gently run your finger or a blunt tool (I use the edge of a flat butter knife) along the rubber hose and this clears it out immediately and the full wall of bubbles bounces right back.

If you don't have an overhead LED lighting system these are a wonderful substitute at a fraction of the cost.Even if you do use an overhead system (I have the Marineland Double bright LED system) these wands still add a very beautiful and special look to your tank.I wasn't sure if I would like the white and blue, but it's fabulous. However, if you're looking to create a Lunar mode for your tank so you can observe your fish without disturbing their sleep/rest cycle then you'll want all blue LED bulbs.

ViaAqua makes these in many sizes from 4" to 24" and in array of colors including red, multi color and units with change colors so you're bound to find one that suits your fancy and will look marvelous in your aquarium. On precaution to take is know the size you need prior to purchasing these wands, If they sit too close to your intake, you'll end up with bubbles being sucked into the filter which creates a racket and can compromise your filters efficiency.

In my experience 1-2 inches from the intake is perfect. But depending on the GPH of your filter, you may find you can put them closer or need to keep the ends of the wands a bit further away.I have 8 of these wands and use two in each tank they work beautifully and again, the effect is smashing. The best price I've seen has been on Amazon, and the units have all arrived well packaged and delivered very quickly.

The come packaged with everything you need. Including some airline tubing, instructions, the plug in power transformer, more than enough cable wire and of course the wands themselves. This is a fabulous product which I would recommend to any hobbyist especially anyone looking to add a little pizzazz to their aquarium.

I actually am using this just for the LED lights, I hooked up the air to it to make sure it works but I already have a bubble wall I use and love for the fine bubbles it produces. The LED's on this are bright without being obnoxiously bright, it lights up my dark Hex tank perfectly, I keep it on day and night as during the day it doesn't get all that bright in the room the tank is in and at night it casts a nice blue glow like moonlight for the fish, newts and plants in the tank..

GloFish Half Moon with Blue LED Bubbler, 3-Gallon

GloFish Half Moon with Blue LED Bubbler, 3-GallonI LOVE THIS PRODUCT AND SO DO MY GLOFISH! Although if you do put more than 3 fish prepare for a huge cleaning! I have 7 and i alternate them between two different 3 gal glofish tanks. Issue with this product is the filter is crap if you have more than 3 fish. Scrap it an get a electric one for $15. Oh i also recommend getting the blue led over head light for $30 because no other fish tank comes with 2 blue led lights. The led light that comes stock is laughable but awesome if you use it with the over head light. But if you buy and use it you need to modify your lid. I dont recommend cutting it but safly heat up a flat head screw driver and cut what very small piece you need to make space for the light mount. In the end its not as cheap as youd like but over time it makes all the difference!

My betta fish loves this tank, he was in a gallon tank so I made room to get a larger tank for him. He is very active now. The only problem I had was the pump was way to powerful. I went a got a mini whisper filter and it doed not create so much current for him. I highly recommend this tank but get a small mini whisper filter system.

I notice that there are other models of this 3 gallon tank out there, and I have to wonder if they came out later...after people complained about this one. On this one, the bubbler/light goes inside the tank, so there is an actual cord and plug that goes right from the water into the outlet. Something that sits in the bottom of 3 gallons of water should not plug directly into an outlet. Then there are two hose/tubes that are way too long and don't uncoil, due to the way they are packaged. The one hose was nearly impossible to connect to the filter and I am still not sure it is on securely enough. The other hose goes to the bubbler/light. If you try to straighten the one to the bubbler, the whole thing floats up. The bubbler is light and you need a ton of rocks on top of it to keep it in place, so you can't uncoil the hose. If there was a way to make it straight, or buy straighter hose, I would try that. Now the fish are having to swim around coils and electrical cords. One of our fish has already been sucked up by the filter and it died. Is this a common thing to happen, or is this yet again poor planning on the part of Glofish tanks? It was a cute idea, but eventually I think I will spend extra money for a better filter that doesn't kill fish and keeps the tank a bit cleaner, and I would like to take the bubbler/light out. It looks like the other models have a light on the outside of the tank which makes me feel a lot safer and there are less cords and tubes taking up room in the tank.

Hydor H2Show Lost Civilization - Calander and Snake Decoration Combo Pack for Aquariums

Hydor H2Show Lost Civilization - Calander and Snake Decoration Combo Pack for AquariumsThe decorations themselves are wonderful. They are very detailed and look amazing in my 55 gal. Goldfish tank. They are the perfect size, and stand out nicely without being too obtrusive. However, the packaging of these decorations is HORRIBLE. They are glued down into their clear plastic and cardboard box with no insulation or barrier of any kind between the two pieces. Only glue on cardboard is holding them in place, so when one of them (most likely the bigger and heavier calendar piece) inevitably comes loose, it goes flying around the flimsy box and crashes into the other piece.

Because of this incident, my dragon decoration was chipped, but luckily it wasn't in too bad of shape and I could see no other damage. After removing the pieces, I then sat there for a good twenty minutes trying to get all of the packaging glue off of the bottom of the decorations before I could place them in my tank.

Beautiful decorative pieces for any aquarium, but incredibly ignorant packaging. Purchase at own risk. If they manage to make it through the shipping process without getting too banged up, there's no doubt that you will like them.

When I opened the box and found that one of the Snake's heads had been broken into pieces. All of the items were detached from their positions and free moving and thus crashing inside the box. The protection of the packaging was poor.

Pro Heater

Aqueon 06107 Pro Heaters Submersible Aquarium Heater, 150-WattI picked up this heater for our 10-gallon tank, and after several days of adjusting it and watching our tank thermometer, I'm happy with it. It attaches easily, the indicator light is great, and fully submerging it hasn't caused any problems.

The only downside is that it consistently runs 2-3 degrees low: I have it set to 80, and it keeps the tank at 77-78. That wasn't hard to figure out, though, and it does hold the water at a steady temperature.

Given the horror stories I've read about other heaters, I'll take one that runs low and steady over one with serious problems any day.

Update: A month later, it's still rock solid, responsive to changes in temperature (like when I add water during a water change), and performing well.

After having an Aqueon 100 watt heater for three years, I noticed that the temperature in my fish tank was not coming down from about 80 degrees even when I set the dial on top to 72. I called Aqueon, and told them that I tested the temperature with two different thermometers (one being digital). I also told them that I never took the heater out of the tank, so it never had a chance to get damaged that way. I also have a UPS on my tank/heater, so if there is a power outage, the heater is protected with a surge protector, and stays on for at least an hour with the battery backup. Here is what I just emailed Rob at Aqueon who didn't want my old heater back, and immediately sent me a replacement "Pro" heater at no charge, even for shipping:

"Hi Rob, I just wanted to let you know that I got the replacement heater, and installed it yesterday. I set it about halfway between 76 and 80, so as to try to achieve a 78 temperature in my 26 gal. tank. I may have been off a bit in my setting on the dial on top of the heater, as this AM when the temperature in my house is 72, my tank is now at 79 (within +/1°). This is a success to me, as my tank never went below 80 to 82 with the previous heater. I have a full glass top and a full wood cover on my tank, and that seems to keep the heat and condensation inside my tank. But, I'm now convinced that my previous Aqueon heater made of glass eventually had a defective thermostat, so I appreciate your good lifetime warranty service that backs up what Aqueon says on its website: "All Aqueon heaters are guaranteed for life."

Don't know what to say, it's a great heater! It works great and keeps my tank nice and warm.

If your confused on what wattage to get, use this guide:

20 gal 50 watt

40 gal 100 watt

50 gal 150 watt

65 gal 200 watt

75 gal 250 watt

This is a rough estimate, it depends on how cold your house is which, obviously, effects how cold your water is. For example for a 55 gallon tank I got a 200 watt heater to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps! :-)

Exotic Environments Castle Fortress with Gargoyles Aquarium Ornament, 10-Inch by 3-1/2-Inch by 5-1/

Exotic Environments Castle Fortress with Gargoyles Aquarium Ornament, 10-Inch by 3-1/2-Inch by 5-1/2-InchI gave this product 4 out of 5 stars, because it is smaller than it seems and there's a few key aspects not mentioned in the product description, so read on.

The castle measures just over 5.5 inches in height, just under 8.5 inches in length and 3 inches in width (width measured at the bottom).

From the picture you can't tell, but the main two windows only measure 1/2 an inch in width and .75 in height, so only small fish can fit through. Also, the top of the towers have very SMALL openings, about the size of a dime, so again, very small fish might be able to fit through. The openings do not have sharp edges, so no need to sand them.

The overall construction is actually very good, sturdy and nicely painted. If you plan to mod it somehow, you'll need a precise and strong tool, I would guess some kind of Dremel attachment. It's made of some kind of hardened plastic.

I ended up not using this castle in my aquarium, because it looked too small in it. I have a 50 gallon, oval shaped glass aquarium, so it has more height than length. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

After many years of wanting an aquarium, I recently purchased a 20 gallon aquarium. I bought this ornament as my center piece in the tank and I must admit that I love it! My tank is gargoyle themed so it really balances out my tank perfectly! It is not too big or too small.

this castle is a beautiful piece for stand alone in a small tank or with other pieces in a large tank. the open interior is ideal for live plants to take root or for small fish to find dark shelter. from new this is a nice looking castle and maintains its looks for years to come. injection molded and hand painted to a natural look and feel. we use this castle in a small(10 gal.) tank with live plants and tetras(small generic fish). make sure and always give the water plenty of time to aclimate Ph, temp, O2 and micro-bacteria after all ornamwnts and rock are in for at least two weeks before adding fish and plants to promote health and longevity of life in your tank as some ornaments and/or rock adjust these levels and can stress or harm fish. make sure and physically measure your tank or area before purchasing pieces to avoid crowding.

Marineland LED Aquarium Light, 11-Inch

Marineland LED Aquarium Light, 11-InchI recently bought this LED aquarium light to replace an incandescent lamp that I had, whose expensive bulbs (about $14 each) kept burning out every few months.

This Marineland LED 11-inch Aquarium Light is so far so good. I have a 29-gallon tank that's 30" long, and this 11-inch lamp really does do a good job lighting up the whole tank, just as it claims on the package ("for aquariums up to 30 inches long"). This is great news, because I didn't want to spend more money for a lamp that runs the entire length of the aquarium.

The light really does look natural, and brings out the colors on both my fish and my artificial plants. From what I understand, however, this lamp does not provide the right light waves for planted aquariums, so don't get it if you have live plants.

The lamp also has a "night mode"...it's a smaller amount of light (which happens to be blue) which looks cool at night...but if you choose to use this, you'll have to manually switch it every night (and back to day mode every morning). The lamp does not automatically switch between day and night modes. So, needless to say, the night mode is sort of useless for that reason. I always have the day mode turned on, and have plugged the lamp into my own timer so that the fish can have darkness at night.

I have 3, soon to be 6, two-and-a-half gallon aquariums in which I have my Male Bettas. This light is PERFECT for that size tank. The light would not be bright enough for anything over 5 gallons. If you are a Betta lover and enjoy collecting Bettas, don't hesitate to use this for their single tanks!

I bought the Marineland 20 gallon high aquarium kit, mainly because I was in a hurry to get my daughter a birthday present and I knew she wanted a blue light so she could see her glofish glow (we were upgrading from her old ten gallon). I didn't stop to consider at first whether this light would keep our plants alive. Once I got it all set up, I was concerned that it wasn't bright enough, even for my low light plants. I shouldn't have worried--it WILL grow things like java moss, anubias, crypts, aponogeton bulbs, onion bulbs, moss balls, and maybe even some other things that we're experimenting with now (wisteria and hairgrass). With DIY co2 the growth isn't even what I would call slow. I have switched the hood that came with the kit to a glass canopy, and I plan on buying a second one of these lights to run at the same time. Very nice!

Tetra Whisper In-Tank Filter

Tetra Whisper In-Tank Filter 10I with BioScrubber, 3 to 10-GallonI own 7 pet turtles. I have two red-eared sliders, four mud turtles and one map turtle. I use the Whisper 40i filters in all my turtle tanks. After trying several different types of filters (ie Zoo Med 501 and Reptofilter) for my turtle tanks, I have found that these work the best and are the easiest to use.

First of all, they do keep the water clean as long as you change the filter media regularly. How often it needs to be changed depends on the type of animal, or in my case turtle, that you own. It also depends on the amount of water in your habitat and other factors. The replacement media is fast to change and more inexpensive than the replacements for other turtle filters I've used.

The filter can be either hung on the side of the tank or completely suction cupped to the side. For functionality, I have found that tanks with shallow water do better with the filter sitting on the bottom of the tank and attached to the wall. Also, pets that are more likely to knock the filter down should have it attached to the wall instead of hung. When it falls in the water, the tank can become very dirty within a matter of hours. My sliders kept knocking one in the water and now the motor does not seem to work as well as it once did.

Make sure that your tank will have at least 4 inches of water in it or this filter will not work for you.

Overall, a solid product!

i had this filter for a grand total of a week before installing a new one, i would have taken it back to the store the same day if i had another option for a filter, however i went ahead and purchased the TOM Aquarium Mini Internal Filter 45gph adjustable flow online (which is working perfectly by the way) and waited for delivery. so why is this filter so horrible?

1) the noise is unbearable, this tiny filter for a 3 gallon tank is louder than another filter i have for a 75 gallon tank! unbelievable

2) its made of cheap plastic parts, ( the "lid" broke off during assembly)

the ONLY good thing about this filter is the fact that it is gentle the current is very weak, suitable for my delicate finned male betta.

as for as how it does with actual filtration, for the week i had it, it kept the water clear and well circulated; as far as any long term use i wouldn't know about but honestly in my opinion i wouldn't be surprised if this thing didn't last more than a month, its that flimsy.

I have two African dwarf frogs and was missing a frog one night.

I could not find her. I finally found her in the filter.

I have now learned through reading other web sites; it's best to put pantyhose or cheesecloth over a part of the filter, (use common sense on watching how it does filter so the filter will still do it's job) to protect your frog from becoming stuck.

My girl was saved.

The filter does work, just be careful and aware if missing an aquarium baby.

I first bought this filter for my 1.5 gallon tank that has a betta fish in it. It was the perfect size for the tank. It did a really good job at keeping the water in the tank clear. At about 8 months after I bought it, the water would only trickle out of the filter. I tried taking it apart, cleaning the filter out, putting it back together (as sometimes gunk builds up in my other filter that slows the amount of workload it can handle). No change. I originally planned to buy a different brand of filter, but I couldn't beat this price and still had some filter cartridges left over. I saw that other people have said that they have bought more than one with better luck. So, I decided to take the risk. I was curious to see what the problem was, so i tried substituting certain parts of the filter with the old one. The problem was definitely the little motor. For some reason it didn't push air through the filter as much as it did in the beginning.

Either way, I do like the filter and I hope this one holds out. Its perfect for a betta fish's tankand I like the price.

Wrote that review on January 7, 2011 and it is now February 10, 2011 and the filter is no longer working the way it should. The water only trickles out of the filter, making it unable to do its job. I'm sick of having to deal with this.. I would just like my filter to work like it said it would!!! Don't buy this filter unless you want to replace it a month later....(This is the second one I have purchased with the same result.)

Had to buy 2 of these within 2 years, they don't hold up long enough for the price you have to pay, motor quit, it should last longer than what it does.

Coralife Super Skimmer with Pump

Coralife 05271 Super Skimmer with Pump, 65-GallonThis skimmer is probably the cheapest skimmer I could find for my 55 gal reef tank. And it works well. I'm sure you get what you pay for in some things, so itsn't as robust as some of the other skimmers. But does the trick. I empty the skimmer about twice a week. It hooks up fine. Only beef I have with it is that you need to unplug the unit before unscrewing the top collection bin to empty it. I always clean it with some paper towels when emptying it cause it gets a little stinky. I'd recommend this product to anyone doing thier first reef tank. Cause it's affordable. And we all know how expensive salt water tanks can be.

I have been running this skimmer on a 30 gallon tank for over a week now, it really works great. The skimmer only took 24 hours to break-in and now is pulling some dark smelly skimmate from my tank. I can see how easy it is to overflow the unit, which would be a problem for a hang on tank setup. It is easy to add an overflow modification to the collection cup. It was a little tricky to get the water level set right, but it is running great now. I would definitely recommend this skimmer to anyone. I purchased from petsolutions for $91 with shipping.

I have been running an AquaC EV-240 with a mag 12 pump for over a year on my 300 gallon fowlr tank, I will tell the AquaC is one of the best dry skimmers on the market, but thats all they do, I put a coralife 220 super skimmer in the sump beside the AquaC and I do have to say, I feel the Coralife with the needle wheel technology is a far superior skimmer over the high pressure injection of the AquaC, as the needle wheel pump creates far more smaller air bubbles, and we all know, the more bubbles means more contact for the skimmate to be removed more efficiently.

I purchased this skimmer to replace a Prizm skimmer. I am so much happier with it. It's been running for 2 years now and is going strong.

My main gripe with it is its adjustable flow-rate. It does have a dial for adjusting flow-rate, but I can't set it low enough. I run it on the lowest setting continuously. Many, many times after cleaning the skimmer and/or tank, the skimmer will fill the collection cup quickly with clean water. After the first filled cup or so, it settles back to the proper flow-rate and starts collecting scum again instead of tank water. Other than that, I'm happy. It fills the collection cup weekly, and the rate of skimmate (sp?) collection increases visibly every time I feed my fish, so it's very responsive.

R2 Dual Extreme Aquarium Moonlight

R2 Dual Extreme Aquarium MoonlightI have a 55gal freshwater tank with a lot of rare fish that are entirely nocturnal, so I ordered this set in order to watch them at night. The light output on them is surprisingly good for only having a total of 10 LED's (I think its either 5 or 6 in each) and it give the water a nice shimmer (note you can only get shimmer if the surface of the water is disturbed, in my case by my power heads and filters). They are easy to install as well. The two problems I have that kept me from giving these a full five stars are:

1. For the price, I really feel like these should come with reflectors. The LEDs are simply on a circuit board floating in glass, so that you get a significant amount of light going to the sides and top. I originally used aluminum foil to counter this, but it kept falling off when I opened the glass and I finally just gave up. I have a hood so that you can't tell that the light is leaking, but it wastes some of the luminosity, and if you don't have a hood you will see blue light all over the place.

2. Another gripe with the price, this time compared to other similar products. After buying these, I discovered ecoxotic stunner strips, which contain many more LEDs in many different light colors (including this blue and even ultraviolet) for the same price, and they make a strip that will go the whole length of my tank for approximately double the price of these.

Overall I don't necessarily regret buying these, but I'm not sure I would again after finding ecoxotic's strips.

I have recently changed my lighting system on my 76 gallon Oceanic half round saltwater tank. The light I am using is LED and it has great coverage. However there was not separate plugs for the day and night lights. This caused problems because I have been on a timer for years, and trying to remember to turn off and on the lights everyday was next to impossible. I purchased these lights to use for my moon effect. The R2 Dual Extreme lights have been the perfect compliment to my tank. I am now able to have both light systems on a timer for worry free lighting. The lighting output is just right for my size tank. I highly recommend these lights.

I have a 90 gallon aquarium with glass tops and a double flourescent tube fixture. These lights (2) mounted perfectly between the tubes on the reflector and provide good side to side coverage for a four foot wide area. Mine is 24 inches high and the more height gives it a wider coverage area than a shallow tank would. At 24" high they probably cover 5-6' wide on the bottom. The aquarium is 18" deep so it doesn't cover that. But that wasn't my intention which was to provide a nice glow to the tank whenever the main light it off. Actually I just keep the LED's on all the time. I did wrap the electrical tape people mention on the clips to hold the light fixture in the clips. I product works as expected, I just hope the LED longevity is satisfactory.

These LED's are great.

I have a 80 gallon Cichlid tank (5' long) with 3 of these installed. 2 just didn't quite have enough effect for me.

The look of it is very impressive if you have water surface agitation, as it will shimmer on the bottom.

I've had these for a few months and they're good so far. They will work with a timer if you want.

All my fish are more active at night now, and 2 of them mated for the first time only days after I put these lights in.

My freshwater lobster also started coming out at night and exploring.

It's nice to see the aquarium life at night, and everybody in the tank seems happier now.

Apparently having moonlight is a much more vital part of aquarium life than most of us think.

If you are thinking of getting these, DO NOT HESITATE.

I've had these running as moonlights for a few days now. I like'em. I have the duals over my 54 corner. They have a nice spread over my near 38 inch wingspan. The on/off switch is nice but really just leave them on all the time. One power supply for both lights is nice.

They aren't the most rugged of lights but for the price I think they make sense. Replaced an old LED strip and even though both of these R2's together are half the size they emit much more light.

Let's see how the LED's fair over time. Hopefully they just work for years.
