I usually clean out my canister once or twice a month, so I always check to see the price on these. I've seen Amazon sell these from six up to ten dollars and change. These filters get dirty really fast, so I recommend replacing them at least once a month. I prefer these over the bonded filter pads because these seem to absorb more dirt, and you don't have to cut them. I still alternate between bonded filter pads and these. These oxygen stones are great. Being a college student and all, I need to have some way of taking care of my fish during holiday breaks, long trips home, moving from dorm to apartment, etc. With these oxygen stones, I can take my fish outta their aquarium and into a travel-sized one and bring them with me whenever I'm traveling for long periods of time. It is great to be able to bring my fish with me and not have to worry about someone watching them or feeding them or anything. I bought a travel aquarium (with a handle and a light) and use these stones, They do last a long time. I mean when it says a month, it lasts a month. again make sure you put in one per fish. I ran out of stones and then carelessly made the mistake of using one stone for two fish, for about a month and a half of course my fish got sick. The product falsely advertises that it keeps the tank clean for 30 days......more like 3 days. Before using these tablets, I used to clean my 1gallon fish tank ever 2 days, but now, with these tablets, it a whopping 3 days. You only get 5 tablets for ten dollars and I've had to use 2 tablets at a time since I have to little 2" tropical fish (1 tablet per fish). Never again!!

These filters have all the necessities: a prefilter/mechanical, a biological filter, a carbon/chemical filter and an air intake that allows the air to mix with the water that comes out of the spout. It is also an extremely quiet filter as long as you keep the pour spout below the water line (to prevent the sound of the water splashing). The only slight problem that I can find is that a tiny amount of air leaks around the seal between the filter media container and the top section, but this isn't a big deal since the water level will almost always be lower then this seal. It's also an efficient filter that produces less heat then most others.
You can use the filter as a pump by removing the pour spout and plugging in a hose that has an inner diameter of 1/2".

Ideal for medium to small tanks.I use it in my fry tanks, with a net covering the water entrance when the baby fish are too small.Really, this device can serve three purposes: it pumps and moves water around (at various power levels), it filters (with 3 stage filtration), and it can mix air with water, so that your aquarium can be properly aerated. In order to take in air, this filter has a sort of a snorkel with a screw-in cap that allows you to regulate the quantity of air being sucked in. The snorkel stays above the water surface, so there is always a reliable supply of air available.
I mean, you get one device that replaces up to three separate contraptions that all would require maintenance, supplies, space, and, of course, electricity.
This filter also requires some maintenance that is easy to perform. Note: never use any harsh chemicals on this device and its filter media. Especially avoid using Windex, because you do not want to kill the biofilter and you do not want any more ammonia in your fish tank!
There are three pieces of filter media in this device: the primary (rough) mechanical filter, the biofilter, and a self-contained basket-like activated carbon filter.
The activated carbon filter piece is a tightly-capped plastic container that needs to be replaced entirely every 4 to 8 weeks. However, there is a way to open the cap on this container. Then you may be able to replace the activated carbon granules with any separately purchased granules or with a mixture of carbon and zeolite. But, if you do not perform this procedure accurately enough, then your might face some cleanup problems or the impeller could get damaged.
The filter is reasonable quiet, unless you run it at the extreme lowest or highest throughput mode. Every setting in between is fairly quiet. It hardly takes up any space inside a tank. Plus, you do not have to modify your tank's cover to accommodate this kind of filter, because it stays completely or mostly submerged with nothing hanging over the edge of your tank.
Note: a brand-new filter may contain some oil inside its pumping assembly, so just rinse it with running water before installing this device for the first time. The manufacturer states that the motor is completely sealed with epoxy, so I guess that you do not have to worry about the motor.
BTW, the fish find this filter to be a great entertainment piece.

I've been using this in a 20 gal aquarium with tetras, platys, swordtails, etc for over a year and it's been great. I dont hesitate to recommend this filter. It works well and I've never had trouble. I keep it completely submerged so the tank is quiet. You can leave it up above the water a little to create more current, and if you want you can open the little port that lets air mix into the water too. The only reason I dinged it one star is because it cost me about $12-15 every time I have to replace the three different cartridges depending on where I shop to get the parts. I wish it were cheaper for those parts, such as maybe they could sell multi-packs/bulk packs, etc. The carbon cartridges come in a two pack but the sponges dont. So just keep that in mind when you are planning for long term maintenance. This is a very solid filter and overall I love it.

This is fine. It's a cylindrical sponge with a hole on one side, but it isn't a Fluval. The most important difference is that the Fluvals have a hole large enough to fit on almost any HOB filter intake. This sponge's hole is about half the diameter. You have to either take out the intake tube and use two hands to really push it in, or you'll have to do what I did: take a hobby knife and cut lengthwise inside the hole in order to enlarge the opening.It's still good for the price, but this is not a Fluval in name or design (it doesn't even come in Fluval packaging), and you'll have to do some work to get it to perform its function properly.

They aren't anything special. They're just the product listed. They do what I needed and I will keep buying them. They keep my baby Cherry Shrimps from being sucked up and keep large plant particles from going into the pump. I ended up cutting my into a square rather than the cylinder. I use the Fluval Edge prefilters on the intake tubes of 3 Aquaclear 20 filters in 5.5 gallon aquariums, which I use as part of a sectional aquarium setup for raising fancy guppies.I also have a 10 gallon tank as part of my guppy sectional setup, with an Eheim 2213 canister filter, which I have also added one of these prefilters to.
The Eheim's intake strainer is small enough to slip the Fluval prefilter on, and the Aquaclear 20 is the same filter used by Fluval with its Edge 6 and 12 gallon tanks, so the fit is perfect.
I use these prefilters for two reasons. The first is to prevent guppy fry from being sucked up into the main filters.
The second is to prevent much of the detritus in my tanks from reaching the Aquaclear 20's mechanical filter sponge.
I have noticed that the mechanical filters in the Aquaclears stay much cleaner since I've added the Fluval prefilters.
I remove the prefilters once a week or so, rinse them well under tap water since they absorb alot of detritus, and place them back on the filter intake tubes.
And since the main filter already has a biofilter, I don't have to worry about rinsing the prefilter in tank water or filtered water. The chlorinated tap water works fine.
These filters really have made it easier to keep my Eheim and Aquaclear filters cleaner, and they are well worth the money. Especially when purchasing them in a three pack.

After researching a number of different filters for my 20-gallon gourami tank, I decided to give this one a try. It is designed with function in mind, including an adequate system of bio-filtration and flow control. Flow control, though simple in design, is a nice feature to have that is sadly lacking on many HOB filters. This feature was important to me as gouramis are labyrinth fish who prefer slow-moving water, and I wanted the ability to adjust the flow, if necessary.One reason I hesitated to invest in this filter is that, although the filter itself is very reasonably priced, the replacement filter cartridges are somewhat expensive. Fortunately, the size of the intake tube is just right to use one of these pre-filters: Pre-Filter Sponge 3 Pack for Fluval Edge Aquarium This increases the biological filtration even more while filtering small particles before they ever enter the filter itself. I simply rinse the pre-filter in aquarium water ever two weeks or so and replace the filter cartridge once a month, since activated carbon expires monthly. Rinsing the pre-filter is an easy step, since this has an extendable intake tube, making it easy to detach the endpiece from the filter itself without having to actually pull the sponge off the intake every time. The filter even continues to run while I do this, as long as the end of the intake is submersed. As an added bonus, my flower shrimp loves to eat the particles of food that collect on the sponge, and as a filter feeder, she enjoys the luxury of hanging on the intake to make use of the flow without the danger of being harmed by the filter intake. Meanwhile, between some tinkering with the flow control and the addition of the sponge, the flow itself is weak enough to not upset my male/female pair of gouramis, who are able to blow bubble nests and engage in spawning behavior. Even though this is only a 20-gallon tank, the flower shrimp, clown pleco and mystery snails have their own space, and the gouramis have theirs. Having a sponge pre-filter and flow control also benefits the live plants in my tank, especially the java fern, which proliferates easily and abundantly, but often can be damaged by filter intakes when the young ferns float about the tank before finding a piece of driftwood or other material where they can grow.
In terms of reliability, I have run this filter steadily for four months as of the writing of this review, and, used in conjunction with some additional sponge filters, this has proven itself to be reliable. It is self-priming and consistently restarts automatically following a power outage. It even runs steadily during a partial water change, and the 'Bio-Falls' system seems to provide additional aeration for the water, which is important not only for providing oxygen for my water-breathing creatures, but helps remove toxic substances, which benefits all of the creatures in my tank, including the air-breathing gouramis.
To conclude, I will provide a brief list of pros and cons:
PROS:
1. It is inexpensive
2. It is effective in terms of mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration
3. It is reliable and self-priming
4. It fits the inexpensive Fluval sponge pre-filters
5. It has flow control
CONS:
1. Replacement cartridges are not easily found in stores
2. Replacement cartridges are expensive (but this can be easily addressed by using an inexpensive sponge pre-filter, extending the cartridge life to at least a full month)
When I initially set up the filter it was a bit noisy, but after removing and reinstalling the impeller it ran with an almost indiscernible hum. The bio falls booster has the additional side effect of slowing the water on the way out of filter so that it reenters the aquarium less violently than my previous filter despite pumping twice as much water. This helps the filter run quietly with no splashing if your water level is adjusted properly.
The activated carbon filter is unique in that it is broken into a number of cells that each contain activated carbon. As a result, more of water flowing through the filter is exposed to the carbon without sacrificing ease of a slide-in cartridge.
I have only two criticisms of this filter. First, the flow of the carbon cartridge should have been made higher, as there is a small amount of overflow even when this cartridge is new if the filter flow is adjusted to the maximum setting. Second, most of the noticeable noise from the filter comes from the vibration of the lid. This can be overcome by running without the lid, or by using a small piece of tape. This vibration made me question the build quality of an otherwise excellent filter.

It has the bio-sponge for beneficial bacteria and the waterfall release also grows benefical bac. for your fish. Very quiet and hangs perfectly on my tall hex-aquarium. Overall I love this filter. Just make sure you do your water changes and filter changes on opposite weeks. You will kill some benefical bacterica when you do either. I have had 2 marineland power filters emperor(very loud) and penguin (somewhat loud). I didn't mind the water sound but the motors sound like a blender. I then got a Fluval Aquaclear that is really nice and quiet with a tiny hum that you can only hear up close. I have a 75 gallon tank so I wanted to add an additional filter to the aquaclear. After reading the reviews for the Cascade model I decided to give it a try especially at 27$. Plugged it in and was amazed that it was near silent. I would recommend this filter to anybody that is annoyed by droning sounds. Also works really well at keeping the water clean. I purchased this item for my new 44 gal tank only a few months ago. At first it looked great and colors were fabulous. But after only a short period of time it is falling apart. Major segments of the plastic stem detached and were floating at the top of the tank. Also algae growth is very difficult to remove from the leaves.I do not think there is anything extraordinary with my tank and my fish are not overly active or aggressive. But I do think this is a poor product and (for the cost) a poor value.

These plants are beautiful and they look very real in the water. The large one is very big, at least 14in so if you have a smaller tank like I do be prepared for it to bend over at the top of the tank. EHEIM Professional 3e 2076 External Electronic Canister Filter for up to 105 US Gallons
Installed the filter, it primed easily and did not leak out of the box. However you are going to need to buy some Efimech and EHEIM Substrat Pro Biological Filter Media (Sintered Pearl-Shaped Glass) 2L from eheim as their not included. The 2076 requires 2 liters of Ehfimech and 4 liters of Ehfisubstrat Pro. Make sure you buy them or have some sort of biological media for bacteria! I previously bought a hagen/fluval G6 and i installed it and it kept having an air leak or something wouldn't prime-called tech support didn't help told me to shorten the lines so there were no flex in it which i did and it was a direct line straight up and to no avail it was still blowing air and locking up. Sent that back to Amazon for refund. Love eheims, had a pro2 before and it started leaking so hopefully this one lasts a long time.

I bought this filter based on many reviews saying that if you can afford it, Eheim is the best and the quietest. Well, I shelled out the big bucks and got the Professional 3. Well, it is pretty quiet and that's probably why I have this first complaint about this filter. First, I was disappointed in the flow rate. Second, the primer does not easily start up the filter. Finally, I've had it for less than a year, and after cleaning it and restarting it by using the primer pump, the primer pump broke this week. I can't believe how cheaply made it was. I contacted the company which says "3 Year Guarantee" on their website. It's been two weeks and I've contacted them twice and I have not heard a single peep from them. I will never buy Eheim again. I'm going with Fluval next.This filter is a rat terrier compared to the great Diane the fluval. The fluval is so much better and will always be this doesn't even have carbon. Stupid filter cheaply made. The title says it all. I was excited to get the unit, but that excitement quickly turned to frustration, then disgust. I sent the product back to the dealer after talking to the dealer and manufacturer for over 2 weeks attempting to get a resolution. The dealer and manufacturer were helpful and I have no problem with them; it's the product I have a problem with.I then purchased a Eheim 2078 Pro 3e. That unit leaked in the same fashion so it went back also. I decided on a Fluval FX5 and have been very happy with that purchase.

I bought a 5 gallon air pump for more than this, and that air pump failed to pump air through 2 2.5gal tanks. So, I went to the overkill side and purchased this. First, though, I want to address some of the other reviews.NO air pump, I repeat, NO AIR PUMP IS SILENT. If a manufacturer tries to sell you a silent air pump, you need to step back and assess if their project development team has taken remedial physics. Vibrations create sound, which means no silent vibrating air pump diaphragms. According to classical physics, it is physically impossible for that to happen. However, through sound damping and clever material choice, you can make it so that it's close to silent. You'll never actually get there, but you can make it quiet enough to not be heard over the usual white noise of the home.
This air pump is the quietest I've ever gotten my hands on. I live in a building with a constant low level of background noise, and I have to concentrate to pick the pump's quiet hum out. It's well constructed, the rubber feet do a lot in the way of damping sound, and if you have it in a bedroom, wrapping it with a towel makes it practically inaudible. Otherwise, it's a very well built and well functioning pump for its price. You will never find anything as good quality as this and for as low a price as this; I can guarantee it from weeks of searching online.

I have this setup on a 20 gallon tall aquarium. It also goes to a standard 10 gallon via a 2-way gang valve. So in essence it would be like connecting two 'bubble' devices up (think air stone plus bubbling treasure chest decoration as an example). The gang valve allows me to compensate for the 10 gallon not being as deep as the 20 gallon. For those interested, it is running a sponge filter in both tanks.With this set up, it is barely able to keep headway and only produces a minimal amount of bubbles. This is okay for me, since I run fully planted tanks and only need minimal water flow for temp and nutrient distribution. If I was doing two devices in the 20 gallon alone though, I'm not sure it would be powerful enough.
How big of a pump do you need? It's all about depth and has nothing to do with volume ... which is how they are foolishly marketed. It should be clear that a pump will work much better on a 20 gallon long tank than it will on a 20 gallon tall tank due solely to the depth of the water even though they have the same volume.
My biggest complain with this air pump is it isn't quite. It's about the same level of noise that a cheap HOB filter makes while good HOB filters will be far quieter than this thing. It's a constant hum that you can get use to, but will always be there and add to the `background' noise of your house. The best I could compare it to is the kind of noise a refrigerator makes when it is on.

I had my doubts about purchasing an air pump for my 16 gallon bow front aquarium. This is a great little starter aquarium. My son loves it! From the description I thought I needed to buy a pump and tubing for the aerating ornament; however, this was not the case. These items are included in the aquarium. We just had to buy the fish and food. Since it does not have a heater (and cautions against one since it's plastic) you cannot use tropical fish, but goldfish and danios will work. We bought 3 glofish, and they are beautiful.

Pros: The backing is marked off in 1 inch grid lines, making trimming to fit easier. As stated in the prod description, the vinyl attaches to the glass of the aquarium with static electricity. The image is well defined. At night the background looks good.Con: The image is printed (screened?) on a transparent vinyl. During the day or back lit the light shines through and the image is faded. Overall it's not bad, you can still see the image. It's just faded a bit.
Installation Note: I recommend removing all obstructions from the rear of the tank. To get the static vinyl to hold you will need to get a fair portion in contact with the tank. It worked best for me to temporarily tape 1/8" of the backing to a top corner then I worked across to the opposite top corner and then pushed the air pockets out of the bottom. Once I had the entire backing in contact and being held I removed the tape and made adjustments as needed.
