Fish Bubble

Fish BubbleBeing the novice I was, when I was about 12 I "rescued" 2 bettas from a Pets Mart and put them both into separate, cheap, tiny little novelty tanks, and that's how they lived for about a year and a half until I bought my third one and put him into a 5 gallon tank. I instantly noticed the difference!

My 3rd Betta was flying all over the place, he was noticeably happier, responded faster (in a non-aggressive way) when I'd come near the tank, and he lived for a little more than 3 and a half years! My other two barely made it to 2 years. They were depressed, uninterested, slow to respond...everything you don't want your Betta to be. And once I moved them into larger 3 gallon tanks each, they perked up like none other!

Betta's need to be in 3-10 gallon tanks by themselves (5 or larger and you might be able to add compatible fish, though I wasn't willing to risk it). In the wild, they live in rice paddies which are thousands of gallons of swimming space and naturally aerated and filtered, and only live in "small puddles" for about 2 or 3 months (at most) out of the year during the dry season.

What's more, while Wild bettas may be able to take smaller conditions longer and survive better, the fancy bettas we see in the stores today are not nearly as durable or hardy and need more stimulation and space.

This "tank" has no filtration, has little space for the Betta, and isn't much better than the initial cup they come in. I'd use it for water plants; less cruel and easier to tend to, and it would look just as pretty!

For a Betta...no. It's just cruel to confine a fish, no matter how small, into that sort of an environment for extended periods of time.

No fish should live in a tank this small. There are many lower cost alternatives to "fish bowls" that in the long run will be less work and provide you and your fish a happy life together.

While I would never buy one of these for a live fish, making a planter out of one was an awesome idea. Originally I was going to hang it on a wall, but instead I have it hanging in a window and it looks great.

While these bowls are totally unsuitable for a live fish, there are many fun things you can do with them. Besides my planter idea, I'm considering getting a second and created an LED lamp, and I'm sure others have similar ideas for using such an inexpensive and remarkably sturdy thing.

my sons snail Gary lived in the bubble wall mounted fish tank for about 5 months then it apparently sprang a leak while we were away on vacation. no more Gary and a very upset Nathaniel (my son) so over all I'd say it was a flimsy piece of junk.

Want Fish Bubble Discount?

Betta Fish are tropical fish. They require a heated tank... tank, not bowl and a minimum of 3 gallons of water, 5 gallons even better. People sometimes say that these fish "don't do much", well it is probably because they are in an unheated environment. They are intelligent and can come to recognize their owner. This product is totally inadequate. Betta fish can live for years, but inside one of these half-bubble traps I can only imagine their life will be shortened. Yes, they are used to shallow water...... shallow water that covers a huge distance, not 4 inches. Please do not purchase this product, it really is inhumane for such a tropical fish. There are better products out there. I am disappointed in Amazon for marketing this junk quite frankly. It is not a fish tank, as the name suggests, it is a half a fish bowl. Soup is for bowls, tanks are for fish.

Cobalt Aquatics Neo-Therm Heaters with Plastic LED, 25-Watt

Cobalt Aquatics Neo-Therm Heaters with Plastic LED, 25-WattThis is the most reliable heater out there on them market today. Love how easy it is to set up and see what the heater is doing.

Compact, small, thin and has the thermometer built in. The best heater every made,i was always looking for something like this for my tanks.

Buy Cobalt Aquatics Neo-Therm Heaters with Plastic LED, 25-Watt Now

I've been looking for a good quality heater with temp control for my 2.5 gallon for over a year... I finally saw the 25W Cobalt heater (which is a higher wattage then I was looking for) for almost $50 and almost passed on it. I am so glad I didn't! Though it's a snug fit for my little 2.5 gallon, the heater is super slim and is only 6.5" long and fits in the aquarium at a slight angle, which is fine as the minimum water level is the top of the bezel (the round dial).

I've only had this heater for two days, but it raised the temp in my tank from it's usual 72-74°F (with 10W Marineland heater) to 78°F within a few hours and only fluctuated about 1/2° overnight when we turn the heat off in the house. I couldn't be happier and will definitely update my review should anything go wrong.

I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS HEATER FOR 2.5 GALLON TANKS!

Compact and sturdy with a built in readable temperature light keeps my little tank the perfect temperature. A little pricey, but in this case, you get what you pay for.

Beautiful piece that does not feel intrusive in a tank. Not cheap, but I would consider replacing all of my heaters with this type. One of the beautiful things is it lets you know the temp of the water in the tank and the goal temp at the same time.

Hagen Marina Betta Aquarium Starter Kit, Geo Bubbles

Hagen Marina Betta Aquarium Starter Kit, Geo BubblesThis product should not be used for betta fish. It was recommended to us by the pet shop employee, and since we'd never owned bettas before, we bought it. Very cute tank, but the problems that come with it are enough to kill the fish. We learned this the hard way.

First, the 1/2 gallon tank is way too small. Betta enthusiast websites say to get at least a 2-5 gallon tank.

Second, the product instructions recommend weekly 50% water changes (not nearly enough to clear the toxins), room temperature water (bettas prefer about 78-80 degree water), and say nothing about testing pH, ammonia or nitrate/nitrite levels. If any of these get out of whack, the fish becomes stressed and can easily succumb to bacterial diseases.

Third, the rocks that come with the tank are way too small--they are hard to clean properly without getting them everywhere. The fish might even be able to swallow some of the tiny fragments.

If you want healthy bettas, skip this "starter tank." Buy a larger tank with a heater, filter, larger gravel and water testing kits.

its to small for a betta to live in. it would be fine for a temporary tank (sorry if i spelled that incorrectly) but a betta needs atleast a 2gallon tank to be happy. its way overpriced, at my petsmart they sell these tanks for $8. plus u cant even put plants in there because its so small and if u put rocks in there, they have even less room!

Really not a good choice for betta or goldfish (as I've seen someone use it for that). Goldfish are a lot of maintenance and need 30+ gallons and water changes every other week. Betta need at least 2.5 gallons with a filter (unless you change every day or every other day with safe water) and a heater (unless you live somewhere where the room temperature will keep the water between 70 and 80 degrees. They also are much happier with decorations, especially places they can hide in and explore. The only thing I can thing of that is suitable for this tank is a marimo moss ball. I wouldn't put any animals in this.

This is a very cute tank but I have so many problems with this.

First off, It is WAY too small for my betta. I learned this after setting it up and putting him in and realizing it was not enough room for him. Theres nowhere for him to go or swim. It also gets dirty so fast, the next day the water looks awful and in need of changing. I put in a small air pump for him and I even feel bad watching him in there in such a small space. I am buying a new 5 gallon tank today for not that much more price wise and way more space for him and even more fish. I wish I hadn't of bought this but now I know. I would not recommend.

This is one of the best looking half gallon tanks on the market.

It would be better if made of glass but it looks amazing. would strongly suggest getting the LED light kit for it as it makes it a much better tank.

IT IS TOO SMALL FOR BETTA FISH, my particular one I had filled with grey sand, and various rocks and sea shells my girlfriend had found on the beach, and amarimo moss ball, with a pregnant ghost shrimp. I had a betta in here (female) and it clouded the tank. I had transported that female betta into a tank that was planted, and modified a 1 gallon filter to work in a betta bowl no water changes needed (purigen filled bag instead of carbon so reusable and re-bleachable).

I purchased another one I store under a t5 grow light next to my herb garden to grow coral frags in. id recommend this tank for anything other than betta fish, pico-aquascapes, baby mallies, or pregnant shrimp, a chaeto raising tank or frag tank is all good

just no betta. ignore the idiots griping about getting a 5 or 10 gallon for a betta that is just fish/aquarium snobbery you only need about half a gallon...but if you're lazy like me and hate weekly water changes on freshwater fish (salt water tanks need it reguardless) then just throw your betta in a gallon tank with a plant and filter, remove the carbon rocks and replace with purigen and never worry about water changes or cleaning ever again

R2 Solutions Moonlight Extreme Aquarium Led Light

R2 Solutions Moonlight Extreme Aquarium Led LightThis LED Moonlight is perfect for my Fluval Edge nano reef. It adds just enough blue to make things look good. The inline power switch makes it easy to turn the light off and on. The mounting clips can be screwed in place or use the included double stick tape. It fits neatley inside the canopy of the Fluval Edge with out any mess or modifications.

These are super easy to install and put out a nice "moon glow". My only complaint is the small area of light they throw.

Gives off a strong glow. I like how the LED's are pointed in a concave shape so it beams the light differently.

Aqueon 34502 ProFlex Sump Model 3, 65-110-Gallon

Aqueon 34502 ProFlex Sump Model 3, 65-110-GallonI ordered this model 3 sump to Handel my new 75 acrylic tank. I was very shocked to see it here the next day. I checked it out and true to one other review I read it had a crack in the top corner on the the tall end. I called PetSolutions and explained that it was damaged. I was told to pack it back up in the original box and leave it out for FedEx to pickup the next day. Shock once again to find a new sump delivered the very next day. I could not of done this any faster if the store was here in my town. The damaged was hidden behind cardboard wrapping and would not of been seen until it was open. Now for looks and functionality it is great and I am very happy with my purchase.

Very silent and very well built. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it had a little crack in one of the corners.

The design is super cleaver. It shipped fine, no problem with cracks like other reviews. I was kind of looking for directions, but it is printed on a leaflet in the box. The way this is designed is super smart. Glad I bought it.

Algone Aquarium Water Clarifier and Nitrate Remover, Small

Algone Aquarium Water Clarifier and Nitrate Remover, SmallI bought this at the recommendation of the pet store where i routinely shop. I had troublesome over growth of algae in my Turtle tank. I placed one pouch in my Fluval filter..didn't see much of a difference for the first two weeks (as the pet store person told meit takes time to kick in) but on about the third week, i noticed the algae starting to disappear. I usually had to scrub algae off the glass...but they seemed to just start vanishing by themselves. I realized after cleaning out my filter that they were dying and being sucked into the filter, as my filter seemed full of dead algae but my tank was CRYSTAL CLEAN. 6 months after my first use of this and i haven't seen a lick of algae on the glass...not one bit ! They say you have to change the pouch, but i'm still using the same pouch i initially used and it's still working..which speaks to the power of this product. From now on i'll never go without it for my 55 gallon tank!

Just be patient..it takes time, and once it kicks in, you won't have to worry about algae again!

We have a new tank that was just hitting its stride in term of cycling. Our ammonia and nitrite levels were at zero, but we had fairly high nitrate and brown algae (diatoms) growing on the fake plants so I figured we would give Algone a try in conjunction with our weekly water changes. It had no effect on the diatoms and made the water very cloudy. The pouches would get covered in a translucent like gooey substance that would flake off into the tank making the water even more cloudy. We tried for several weeks, but we finally stopped using them with today's water change and it is already looking better than our last water change.

I put these in my aquarium and they got white stringy stuff all over them. It even grew in my bio filter. I never saw a reduction in algae. I used this in conjunction with Phosgaurd phosphate control but still no algae reduction. They did not work for me.

My daughter has a 3 gallon freshwater fish tank with 3 fish that we set-up about 4 months ago. I didn't clean it for two weeks and suddenly we had algae. I cleaned the tank but was worried about getting the water clear again and while doing research, I found an ad for Algone. I ordered it from Amazon and put it in with the filter. The water seemed to be getting better, but was still cloudy. Cleaned the tank again 1 week after putting Algone in the filter and replaced it with a new packet since there was algae all over the first one. Changed out about 20% of the water. Next day water was looking better, the day after that it was suddenly really milky looking and we felt like we took a step back & then today, 10 days after adding the Algone to the tank, we turn the light on and the water is completely clear! I am talking sparkling clear. I don't think it's ever been this clear, clear. My daughter was actually a little freaked out and kept asking how the water got so clean, and all I could say was "I don't know, but I am keeping Algone in there from now on!"

Want Algone Aquarium Water Clarifier and Nitrate Remover, Small Discount?

I was skeptical about this product and the ingredients are proprietary so I really had little faith that such a small package in a 30 gallon tank would work. Yet other reviews on various aquarium message boards gave it high marks, so I thought I'd give it a try. I wasn't having a terrible algae problem, but enough so that the water just looked murky. PH and nitrates etc. were within range and I do regular water changes so wasn't sure what would help. Didn't want to add any harsh chemicals. Well, within two days my cichlid tank was crystal clear. The fish are happy and healthy. Can't ask for more!

Marineland Diamond Blend Activated Carbon/Ammonia Neutralizing Crystals

Marineland PA0392 Diamond Blend Activated Carbon/Ammonia Neutralizing Crystals, 50-Ounce, 1417-GramPros:

With following the rule of 30g to 30gal(min) this stuff works wonders, I had and was using HBH and it's carbon

if excellent no lie but its Ammonia Neutralizing blend really was a waste. You may pay a tad more for this but

that 3 bucks is worth every extra penny, plus EntirelyPets has it cheaper then the pet stores. Don't get me wrong

you still smell a tad of fishy/turtle water but you gotta stick you nose in the water.

-No smell compared to all other blends

anyone with turtles will know that nasty smell this is you answer)

-Lasts over a month *I change every month for best results*

-Less dust then all others so you barely have to rinse it

-If you water smells put this in a bag run you filter 24hr and your water will be crystal and smell free

-Not saying you wanta but when you change the media smell the water then the media and you be like WOW

this blend locks in a lot a smell and the only smell is off the media.

Cons:

-The picture is a tad wrong just like burger king their menu looks better then the food but the split on carbon to

Ammonia blend is like 5 parts Ammonia to 3 parts carbon, but still works just stating any negative which isn't because

its Marineland. Only other negative I bought two of these and one the lids were brittle and upon deliver it broke but

box was taped up very good and I saved all it and still works*I know this isn't ship review but those are the only

two negatives I have to say so buy some!!*

I use this media for my Emperor Power Filter system as a additional filter. It really help to dissolved organic waste and odors also removes toxic ammonia and chloramines.

I bought this in the hopes it would help keep our 40 gallon tank clearer than it has been as of late. But, to no avail. I have 4 large angelfish and a few bottom feeders but nothing seems to help this tank. I'm about ready to give up on the tank to be honest. However, I do have another snail infestation so I'm sure that is contributing to the problem as well. However, this does keep it a clear lime green so that is definitely an improvement over the slime. I'm getting ready to take it down again in the hopes that this will help. I do recommend this, but just be aware that it won't solve all your problems.

I use diamond blend on both my tanks and it keeps them CRYSTAL CLEAR. I do add a little extra Black Diamond Premium Activated Carbon 10 oz. (283g)to get a better 50/50 ratio and it does the job. IMO it's better and cheaper than buying the pre-made filter inserts.

It's a good blend but you still need to buy just carbon. I have 100 gallon tank that I mix some of this in with straight carbon.

Aqueon LED Aquarium Light Fixture, 24-Inch

Aqueon LED Aquarium Light Fixture, 24-InchI have a 36 gallon bow front tank and this light fits it perfectly. To start I had a the standard day bulb along with a color bulb in but ended up taking out the color and adding another white to cut down on the amount of algae growth in my tank. I used to have a big algae problem growing on my tank lid that blocked all the light. With this fixture I wouldn't say there is no growth but it is certainly less and there is still plenty of light even when the algae starts to get thick between cleanings. I love that the bulbs can be changed out unlike other LED lights which are internal. It is nice knowing I can add up to 3 bulbs but I have to say 2 is more than sufficient for my tank. I don't use the "moon" feature but turn my light off at night but when I do turn it on there is a nice blue glow to the tank. This fixture is well worth the money and I am very happy I bought it.

EHEIM Ecco Pro Easy 60 External Canister Filter Up to 60 US Gallons

EHEIM Ecco Pro Easy 60 External Canister Filter Up to 60 US GallonsI have owned this filter for a couple years now and it works brilliantly, it always quickly gets the water crystal clear after I have muddied up the water from cleaning the aquarium, it is very easy to use and clean except for the biological media bouncing all over the place like bacteria infused Kix cereal and the priming feature is brilliant. Also this thing is in the open in my bedroom and I can't hear a thing as long as I put a pad under it so it doesn't vibrate against floor. The only complaint I have is the water pressure dropping over the years. When I first bought it, the ecco 2234 would put so much pressure into the tank it turned it into a river with the current, the fish used to go swim in the current like salmon. Unfortunately no amount of cleaning and scrubbing and replacing filters gets the pressure and water circulation back to what it was when I first bought it. I had purchased this for a tank that is half the size the filter is rated for so the filter does absolutely fine even with the weak pressure. I would recommend this filter, however make sure you buy one that is rated for a much larger tank.

I own all three versions of the ECCO Pro series, and they are all terrible quality. The handles are cheap plastic and easily break. I've replaced the cheap plastic piece that holds the handle several times. Worse, the motors lasted about a day longer than the warranty. It's been a total of 2 years, and I have ONE functioning ECCO Pro filter...and that's because I've used spare parts from all the broken ones. Eheim is a good brand, but this model was Eheim's attempt at the "entry level" market. Fail. There's a reason most stores don't carry this garbage model anymore. Get the Eheim Classic. Proven design, long history. Avoid this one.

Buy EHEIM Ecco Pro Easy 60 External Canister Filter Up to 60 US Gallons Now

Ehem makes the best aquarium pumps. But that is not saying much, many of the others are not good at all. This one is easy to prime and has quick disconnects but if air does get inside the pump can over heat and burn up.. Had to send mine in the warranty replacement and it takes WEEKS at least. (Eheim needs a a service center here in the US, for US customers)

It is still the best, just could be better.

i looove this filter. i upgraded my 20 gallon to a 40b so my hob aquaclear filter wasnt going to cut it. i have a pleco like that loves to poop and poop and poop. you know the drill. so i went to look for a good canister filter. in the end i decided to go with a fluval since the reviews are almost always great for them. i went to petco to pick one up and while waiting for them to get the one for a 80 gallon i was walking around and noticed they had this one on sale for on $70. eheim is a very reliable brand so i said what the hey. ill try it out. well ive had it for 3 months now and it is super awesome. i only cleaned it once and it was very easy to clean. it comes with all the media. my tank is crystal clear and my fish are happy. also, the filter is sooo quiet. sometimes i think its not working because i cant hear any noise coming from it. so i put im hand by the output hose to check and i can feel the water flowing. i didnt buy it from amazon but decided to put a review up anyway since there isnt to much info on this product. even though amazon sells it for more its totally worth it. i would definitely by it again. btw, the filter media is a little difficult to come by but the fx5 filter media fits if you just trim it a little (blue sponge and water polisher).

I have had this filter for two years now. It works like new, my water is clear like the day I changed it. The filter is very quiet, easy to clean, and you can create your own combination of filtration layers. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants a good quality filter for a relatively low price. And the best part about it... it's virtually maintenance free since you only need to clean it once every 3 months. I love it!
