I bought this because I have a lone guppy in a ten-gallon tank, and I found out the guppies like to hide in order to relieve their fish-stress. Well, my guppy swam through this floating log about twice that I saw, but never adopted it as a "hang out".
Also, these floating logs really do float and one day I saw to my horror my guppy trapped between the log and one of the sides of the aquarium. So I took it out and now it's in my "another great aquarium idea that didn't work" box. I'm rather disappointed.
This very nice looking product could be improved by some sort of anchoring mechanism that would keep it from floating out of control in tanks with moving currents of water. I would have jury-rigged such a mechanism myself if the guppy liked the log, but he didn't.

Not as realistic as some other aquarium decor, but floats as advertised. Fantastic price for the buy (other stores were selling for 4x as much.

I purchased the small Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log for our two small turtles' aquarium. The turtles are a small Red-Eared Slider (approximately 6"), and a small Mississippi Mud Turtle (approximately 5"). Our tank size is long and relatively shallow (30" long, 12" wide and 12" tall).
My main reason I purchased the log was to provide an always-available basking/floating spot for our Mississippi Mud Turtle. Our slider is rather mischievous, and has a tendency to "undo" any kind of basking spot that we would erect in the tank.
PRICE: Amazon's price for this product was approximately $10 less than I found in a big-name pet store. Big plus.
SIZE: I purchased the SMALL size Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log. The dimensions of the small Zoo Med Floating Aquarium log are 7.5 x 4.2 x 5.5 inches. I erred on the side of caution and purchased a size small enough that it could not get lodged and stuck the wrong way in our aquarium, to prevent the turtles from becoming trapped (based on concerned in other floating log buyers review's). I was concerned the "small" size would be too small for both turtles to enjoy. I was very pleasantly surprised to find both turtles can use it (one inside, one on top basking) at the same time!
FLOAT-ABILITY: So for the float-ability (therefore constant-usability) of the log, I give an A+! Our log usually rests upon the top of the aquarium rocks when one or both turtles are using it, or floats about when neither or one is in it. The water level in our tank is usually between 5-7". Our reclusive Mississippi Mud Turtle likes to get inside of the log and use one of the 3 holes (one on top, one on each side) for an occasional breather. The slider likes to bask on top. It is properly weighted so that the 3 breathing/peeking holes are located at the top and sides of the log (not on the bottom...in other words it stays right-side-up) Even if the weight of both turtles causes the two side holes to be submerged, the top hole is always available for our hiding turtle to peek his head out and get a breath if needed.
ISSUE: My ONLY complaint/issue with our small Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log is that it seems to grow algae and get "mucky" and slimy faster than the rest of our aquarium features. It is always the first aquarium feature that gets green from algae. Algae is an annoyance and eyesore in my personal opinion. Scrubbing the log "clean" does not completely get rid of the algae, but temporarily controls it. I have also added an algae-controlling water conditioner to the tank water that helps.
Overall, the pluses of this product outweigh the one issue I have with it, and its issue is certainly not big enough for me to stop using my turtle log. My turtles love it!Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log, Small
I did choose the smaller of the logs based on some reviews concerning the log getting wedged the wrong way in the tank and the turtles getting stuck.

My betta loves this log. He sleeps in it rather than the betta leaf hamock thing I got him and will chase the other fish in the tank away from it. Only downside is if you've got a territorial and aggressive fish it could become a bit of a war zone, so it may not be for ever tank.

This product is probably better suited for turtles and frogs. Some fish may like it. My fish could care less. When the fish are hanging around the top of the tank, especially while feeding, they may pass through it just to get to the other side...meaning they go through it because that is easier than swimming around it or under it at the moment. Otherwise they ignore it. Am going to try it in another tank with a different type of fish and see how they react to it.
