Exo Terra Moss Ball

Exo Terra Moss BallI use these in my turtle tanks and they work great for odor control. Definitely try it. If it can keep a turtle tank from smelling then a fish tank will be easy.

Great balls. Keeps water clear, nitrites down and odor down.

It's like a extra filter.

Great for the price.

I recommend getting 2-4 per 20 gallons of water.

I have purchased so many of these moss balls. I have an aquatic turtle and it helps keep the water clean for a longer period of time.

Great product if you have turtles. It keeps the tank clean and reduce algae buildup. It helps with keeping the water clean and the odor controlled. My tank doesn't smell so bad anymore even though I did water changes or cleaning the whole tank. Plus I have fish inside too.

Attractive. It sank in my dirted aquarium within an hour, and took more than two days to sink in my normal one. I can't tell if it's doing any good. I think I'll get a real one, next time.

Update: I just bought another one. How fast they sink depends on the amount of organic matter in your aquarium, I think. They really do clear the water up almost instantly! There are some problems they can't fix they're not a miracle solution but the difference, for me, in both my aquariums, has been worth noticing.

Clear Pond Sludge Buster Blocks, 8 1-Ounce Pack

Clear Pond Sludge Buster Blocks, 8 1-Ounce PackI have a small koi garden pond, 500 gallons or so near the Cleveland, OH area. This past winter (12/13) I had enormous amounts of string algae form in the pond over the winter. I do have a UV filter on my canister filter that helps keep the algae under control, but I do not use that in the winter due to freezing. As the weather begins to warm and I prepare the pond for readiness I needed to find something (beneficial bacteria) to help me clear the sludge that was forming as I killed off the algae and also the other leaves and matter that had collected over the winter. I scooped out as much of the debris as possible, but there was still a lot of residual matter on the rocks, sides and bottom. I did not want to drain the pond. I purchased these blocks in hopes of helping me get the pond cleaner faster. After treating the pond with an algae treatment a few days earlier I added one block to the pond. Within a matter of days the matter began to be removed. I did have to clean my filter at least once a day sometimes two. The water now is crystal clear and I can see right down to the bottom of the 3 foot pond. The fish are happy and thriving, I leave them out all winter with the pump on low everyone is happy, me the fish, the other wildlife. Great product and worked for me with the combination of other things I was doing to clear the pond after winter.

I love it that you just toss these into your pond or in my case, pond and pondless waterfall,,, they do a super job of helping keep my water nice & clean!

I was skeptical of this items promises. I've used many different products in an attempt to keep our ponds clear. With a healthy population of Koi this can be a challenge especially in the spring after a long winter.

I threw a couple of these "tablets" in when the pond was first uncovered and two more after a couple of weeks when the water had warmed. Mechanical filtering was not working well. Once this product kicked in it made an amazing difference. Our ponds have never cleared this early.

Clear Pond Sludge Buster Blocks are easy to use and really break up the debris. I'm completely satisfied with their performance.

Got the sludge out of the pond and in to our filter. We still ended up buying a UV Sterilizer to get clear water. We have an about 3000 gallon pond and it completely filled and clogged the 55 gallon rain barrel we converted into a filter. It was a big mess to clean out, but the sludge was out of the pond. We did two treatments over 4 weeks before the filter clogged, so keep in mind it's not fast acting, but it worked for us. Also, make sure you are keeping an eye on your filters, sludge clogs.

Teddy Tank Pearl White Bear Betta Fish Tank 8-Piece Premium Package

Teddy Tank Pearl White Bear Betta Fish Tank 8-Piece Premium PackageI bought 2... the penguin and the elephant... this for my classroom and the children love that the little goldfish are in the belly!! Definitely recommend for any child!! I'm already thinking who's birthday is next to get this for them! It has an air pocket in the back for oxygen, recordable message button (which is super cool), night light (in the neck of the animal), bow to make it boy or girl, rocks, and fake plant. I really loved this idea!! I read other reviews about the tank not staying clean... Well, it's a basic tank with messy fishit does not have a filter. You DO need to clean it. I lean mine once a week or as needed if they are messier one week. Im going to be looking into adding real plants and an oxygen tube.

Just because a Betta can survive in small conditions because in their natural environment during the drought season doesn't mean that we should keep them in those conditions. Many Bettas don't survive these rough conditions that nature provides in their home territory. If you buy small cups and throw a fish in themyou are just condemning them to solitary confinement in a prison cell. My Betta is in a 10 gallon tank and you wouldn't believe the fun he has exercising and playing in all that space. If you careyou would never subject this beautiful creature to cups of water if you saw them in gallons of HEATED (they are tropical fish) water!!!!!! Study this fish and you will understand that we take for granted their survival mechanisms and exploit them for our own foolish pleasure.

Marina Cool Air Pump

Marina Cool Air PumpI have enjoyed this purchase. I have a 2 or 2 1/2 gallon fish tank (pet store brand) that i have had for several years. The air pump recently got very loud....annoyingly loud! I tried to get a replacement from the pet store (in store and on-line) that sells the fish tank, however, oddly enough, they don't sell the pumps seperately. I tried a newly designed Whisper air pump for tanks up to 10 gallons, and that worked just fine, however, it really was louder than i wanted for my little tank. I hoped that if i could find a pump for a smaller tank that it would be quieter. Indeed, this one fits the bill. It is quieter than the one i tried for a larger tank (and that one wasn't too bad either). Now, I hear the bubbles louder than i notice the pump sound! It also is quite powerful, so there are more than enough air bubbles for my fish. Granted, it isn't silent, but i don't expect that. Just a quiet hum. I worried it would move around due to it having 4 tiny "legs" on it, but it stays in place nicely. It has been a good purchase & very reasonably priced.

This pump is small, unobtrusive, quiet and does its job. Plus, the price can't be beat. I wouldn't feel right asking for more.

I hooked this little air pump to a ViaAqua6 LED bubbler in my 5 gallon tank and it's worked great for the 6 months I've had it despite it being left on for days on end.

Recently though, the pump's started to rattle and shake. Putting padding under it didn't help. I became worried I had to get a new one. (But even if I did, it would've been worth it!) Suspecting the case was loose, I tightened a rubber band around it, and I'm happy to report that it's back to its silent self.

The pump died on my 3-pod Aerogarden and I couldn't find a replacement. I called Aerogarden and the agent told me that they don't sell the 3-pod pumps separately. He said he could sell me a new base (with the pump built in) for $30, but that if it were him, he'd go to a local pet supply store and buy the smallest, most inexpensive aquarium pump available and that it would do the trick; so I shopped around and found this one on Amazon.

Since I'm not using it in a fish tank, I won't dock any stars from my rating, as I'm sure it's perfect for small aquariums (I know nothing about them). But there are a few minor problems with using this pump for an Aerogarden. First, you can't install this *inside* the Aerogarden; it needs to be placed somewhere near the Aerogarden with a short length of plastic tubing (a minimum of 10 inches) going from the pump and through the opening to the Aerogarden's water basin. The tubing isn't included so be prepared to buy some. I was fortunate to have it on-hand. If you are concerned about aesthetics, don't bother with this setup because it isn't pretty. Pay the $30 for a new base.

Second, It vibrates a lot and will move around whatever surface you place it on. I used some Velcro that was on-hand to keep it in place and that also dampened most of the noise caused by the vibrations.

Third, this pump is much more powerful than the stock Aerogarden pump (the 3-pod is only half gallon, this pump is for 5-gallon tanks) so of course it makes much more bubbling noise. The first day it was very irritating but I got used to it and now I actually find the noise to be relaxing.

This pump is very very quiet compared to the one I had before, and seems to put out the perfect amount of air pressure to drive a single small bubbler ornament.

SeaClear Rectangular Aquarium Combo (Blue)

SeaClear Rectangular Aquarium ComboPurchased this combo on Jan 14, 2009. The aquarium arrived within a week and was scratch free. It looks quite nice with rounded front corners. Bought a fluorescent lamp for the included hood but it would not light. Called the manufacturer (Casco Group) of the hood and was told they were having trouble with the ballast on some of these hoods and they would ship a new ballast right away. Two weeks later it had not arrived so we called again and got a different Customer Service Rep. Was told they were very sorry and a NEW HOOD would be sent out immediately. The next day 2 new ballasts arrived. Neither worked. We are now one month out and I do not have a light for the aquarium. Overall the set up looks fine, the size is neither too big nor too small, but without a light I am missing a part of the experience. We have called twice since being told the new hood was being shipped and can only leave voice mails. I will attempt to return just the hood to Petco this week and see if they can help secure a working replacement. Had the light worked from the outset I would rate this combo with 5 stars.

Hydor ARIO Bone Collection Aquarium Ornament

Hydor Deco Bone Collection Aquarium Ornament, T-Rex Skull with Ario 2 Moonlight, Green Air BubblesI received this product in about 20 different pieces. Half of the skull has destroyed, it turned out okay for me though sice I have a smaller tank. I ended up proping half the skull up in a corner and spread the rest of the pieces along the bottom of the tank. the LED is very bright and directional; just how I wamnted it. The bubbler just made way too much noise for me to keep in my tank. if you are looking for something that makes a TON of bubbles this will be perfect for you, it was just a little overwhelming for my small tank.

Coralife Energy Savers ACL53106 double Aqualight power center, 48-Inch, 4x65w

Coralife Energy Savers ACL53106 double Aqualight power center, 48-Inch, 4x65wGreat product!

It has nice power output for coral propagation in small tanks.

Was able to install it inside a hood. Use of a fan would be recommended due to temperature.

Good lights...except they dont last very long. I have had 2 so far in 8 years.

Naturally the bulbs have to be replaced but the internal wiring becomes hard and brittle and no longer functions.

I just bought 4 new bulbs...approx $25 each but they wont all work. So do I buy a whole new unit that will last maybe 3 years. Or change to a new product. But I know this one will fit. Hmmmmmm?? Maybe this is typical of all lights?

Float Aqua Log for Pet

Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log, SmallI bought this because I have a lone guppy in a ten-gallon tank, and I found out the guppies like to hide in order to relieve their fish-stress. Well, my guppy swam through this floating log about twice that I saw, but never adopted it as a "hang out".

Also, these floating logs really do float and one day I saw to my horror my guppy trapped between the log and one of the sides of the aquarium. So I took it out and now it's in my "another great aquarium idea that didn't work" box. I'm rather disappointed.

This very nice looking product could be improved by some sort of anchoring mechanism that would keep it from floating out of control in tanks with moving currents of water. I would have jury-rigged such a mechanism myself if the guppy liked the log, but he didn't.

Not as realistic as some other aquarium decor, but floats as advertised. Fantastic price for the buy (other stores were selling for 4x as much.

I purchased the small Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log for our two small turtles' aquarium. The turtles are a small Red-Eared Slider (approximately 6"), and a small Mississippi Mud Turtle (approximately 5"). Our tank size is long and relatively shallow (30" long, 12" wide and 12" tall).

My main reason I purchased the log was to provide an always-available basking/floating spot for our Mississippi Mud Turtle. Our slider is rather mischievous, and has a tendency to "undo" any kind of basking spot that we would erect in the tank.

PRICE: Amazon's price for this product was approximately $10 less than I found in a big-name pet store. Big plus.

SIZE: I purchased the SMALL size Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log. The dimensions of the small Zoo Med Floating Aquarium log are 7.5 x 4.2 x 5.5 inches. I erred on the side of caution and purchased a size small enough that it could not get lodged and stuck the wrong way in our aquarium, to prevent the turtles from becoming trapped (based on concerned in other floating log buyers review's). I was concerned the "small" size would be too small for both turtles to enjoy. I was very pleasantly surprised to find both turtles can use it (one inside, one on top basking) at the same time!

FLOAT-ABILITY: So for the float-ability (therefore constant-usability) of the log, I give an A+! Our log usually rests upon the top of the aquarium rocks when one or both turtles are using it, or floats about when neither or one is in it. The water level in our tank is usually between 5-7". Our reclusive Mississippi Mud Turtle likes to get inside of the log and use one of the 3 holes (one on top, one on each side) for an occasional breather. The slider likes to bask on top. It is properly weighted so that the 3 breathing/peeking holes are located at the top and sides of the log (not on the bottom...in other words it stays right-side-up) Even if the weight of both turtles causes the two side holes to be submerged, the top hole is always available for our hiding turtle to peek his head out and get a breath if needed.

ISSUE: My ONLY complaint/issue with our small Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log is that it seems to grow algae and get "mucky" and slimy faster than the rest of our aquarium features. It is always the first aquarium feature that gets green from algae. Algae is an annoyance and eyesore in my personal opinion. Scrubbing the log "clean" does not completely get rid of the algae, but temporarily controls it. I have also added an algae-controlling water conditioner to the tank water that helps.

Overall, the pluses of this product outweigh the one issue I have with it, and its issue is certainly not big enough for me to stop using my turtle log. My turtles love it!Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log, Small

I did choose the smaller of the logs based on some reviews concerning the log getting wedged the wrong way in the tank and the turtles getting stuck.

My betta loves this log. He sleeps in it rather than the betta leaf hamock thing I got him and will chase the other fish in the tank away from it. Only downside is if you've got a territorial and aggressive fish it could become a bit of a war zone, so it may not be for ever tank.

Want Float Aqua Log for Pet Discount?

This product is probably better suited for turtles and frogs. Some fish may like it. My fish could care less. When the fish are hanging around the top of the tank, especially while feeding, they may pass through it just to get to the other side...meaning they go through it because that is easier than swimming around it or under it at the moment. Otherwise they ignore it. Am going to try it in another tank with a different type of fish and see how they react to it.

HDE LCD Fish Tank Thermometer

HDE LCD Fish Tank ThermometerI saw this thermometer going for $1.00 plus about $2.50 shipping on a popular bidding website. I didn't really trust it to be a real thermometer at that price. So, I looked it up on Amazon.com. For the less than $6.00 including shipping, I decide to pay a couple of bucks more from Amazon and try it. It came in the mail this afternoon.

When I pulled the thermometer out of the package it was set to Celsius. I switched it over to Fahrenheit and it began reading about 82º in my house. I know the air temperature is around 76º. I waited for five minutes as it drifted further and further down but it never got down to what I believe the temperature actually is. It settled in around 78º. I figured a 2º variance isn't bad. Then, I put it in the fish tank. It immediately dropped down to what I believe the temperature of the tank is, according to the cheap floating thermometer I have in the tank. Given that it's designed to read water temperature, that was good enough for me.

I put it on the tank I plan to use it on and I'm looking at it now. The suction cups are powerful, one for the probe and one to attach the thermometer to the tank. I like the digital read out because it's much easier to read than the colored water in the analog thermometers. I can glance at it from a distance and know the temperature of the tank. Not such a big deal right now in summer. But, it'll be great to know in the winter. I now trust that it's fairly accurateaccurate enough anyway.

There's an on-/off switch on it. I'm not sure that's necessary. These type of devices should run a long time on the watch battery it runs on. The battery is replaceable. Turning it off is difficult. The switch recesses and has to be pressed way in and held in to shut it off. At first I thought the switch was broken. But, I used a pen and held it in and it went off. Turning it on was much easier. There's no risk of turning it off accidentally.

I'll report back if/when it breaks. I think with things like this if they work out of the box, they'll work for a while. There are no moving parts. So, I think this is a great deal. It's got to be as accurate as the $3-$4 floating devices you buy at the Local Fish Store. And, if you want, you can hide the display completely, camouflage the probe and make it virtually invisible.

**update**It's been over six months since I bought the first of these. I now have four on four different tanks. They have been rock solid reliable and the temperature reading seems to be accurate matching the set point on my heaters. I am extremely happy with these thermometers.

After getting tired of squinting my eyes to see the temperature of my alcohol thermometer in my reef tank I decided to try a digital version. Like the other reviewer mentioned my digital LCD thermometer arrived in the mail with the power turned on. No big deal. I wish the suction cup holding the probe was black instead of clear like the other reviewer mentioned because a clear suction cup submerged under water appears white. No big deal for me either as I hid my thermometer probe & suction cup behind some live rocks. So far everything works great as I just turn my LCD thermometer on occasionally to check the temperature of my reef tank & then turn it off. Sometimes I just leave it on longer as I still maintain my alcohol thermometer on the other side of the aquarium that I can occasionally still read when it isn't covered by algae. Occasionally I noticed that the thermometer turns on by itself, but that is no big deal to me. Recommended as it generally works great & you can't beat the price considering most digital aquarium thermometers that I see in local stores costs so much more.

Update 4-2-13. I been leaving my LCD thermostat with the power on for the last month & had no problems with it so far. No problems with it turning off by itself. Been so reliable that I removed my standing thermometer.

I guess I got a defective one. It's stuck with a reading H (degree symbol) F. Tried powering off and on to no avail. Also, impossible to take battery out. Didn't work for me so I can't recommend it.

The HDE aquarium thermometer fluctuates too much to be of any use. The temperature updates about every 30 seconds. Mine has varied from 64 degrees to 110 degrees (really?) within a matter of minutes. In this case, the old adage applies...you get what you pay for.

Aside from not glowing, it's a lifelike jellyfish that moves in the water current.

Aquarius Aq35000gpc Glofish 180 3-1/2-Gallon Aquarium Kit

Aquarius Aq35000gpc Glofish 180 3-1/2-Gallon Aquarium KitThe filter they have installed with it is just too strong for some types of fish. The filter is probably also used on one of their larger tanks and they just decided to match it up with this smaller tank. If you have really strong swimmers, it might be fine. I have a beautiful male betta in his prime and you could tell he was really getting a workout in there. I suspect it would eventually wear him out, or at the very least, cause undue stress leading to an early demise. Therefore, I decided to put the 'tom mini filter' (here on amazon also) and it seems to be about perfect! Love the led's and curved surfacefits nicely on my desk.

The "one inch per gallon" is too broad of a statement. It will be okay to keep 4-5 Glofish in this tank if you know what you're doing, and you go slow. testing water all the way and cleaning often. The one-inch-per-gallon rule doesn't take into account body mass, amount of waste that species of fish produces, dimensions of the tank (depth isn't as helpful as length when it comes to oxygen exchange), etc.

I had Glofish in here, and they looked great, but then I found a gorgeous orange betta fish so I transferred my glofish to another tank I have and put the betta here. I have never had a betta fish that was so active, adventurous, and seemingly happy. I would encourage this tank for betta fish even more than glofish. (PS: See pictures of my fish under customer images right under the main picture up top).

We bought this tank for our son's room for just a few goldfish. The led lights are really pretty! Great ambience. Being able to switch between black light, led and a combo is quite cool. Even though we don't have glo in the dark fish, the materials in the tank are illuminated~ we got inexpensive glo in the dark plastic plants and white marbles which are affected by the light. It's the ultimate night light!!!

Besides the lights in the tank, the filter seems quite good! We are a busy/lazy tank cleaning family and this tank keeps itself really clean compaired to our daughter's similar sized tank which is constantly needing cleaning.

Very happy!
