Hi,I beat up reviews of gravel vacs for almost a week. Look, this thing cost three times the normal 2 c-batt vacs. Just buy it. The thing is awesome. The upper area you see in grey-white is 6 inches of micro mesh plastic to fill up with garbage. You just press 2 buttons to detatch it and go rinse in out. The whole thing is submergable. Also the "On" button locks in. So you don't have to hold it. I didn't give it a 5 because I feel they could have added a cross under the impeller to not allow very small stones to get up in there. I had one lodge which made me have to disconnect the section and dump it out. No biggie. Just being picky since this is a review. Uses 4 AA included (Duracell) wow. Has great suction. I press the lower section all the way in the stone and it actually sucks down to the bottom of the tank. I would have rated this 4.8.

This was the second vacuum I purchased and I hope that by reading my review you will make this your first. There aren't a million electronic vacuums on the market but almost all of them cost less than this one. That makes them VERY tempting. However, there are many things that make this worth the money:Plastic mesh filter: The cheaper ones exit into a cheap cloth bag that keeps coming loose.
Suction: This thing has GREAT suction. You can see all of the debris getting pulled up.
Easy to clean: Take off the filter and rinse it under the faucet.
Quality: This FEELS solid. The other vacuums feel cheap like they will break at any moment.
Works on larger tanks: It comes with an extension that you can use if you have a mid sized tank.
Just wanted to share a tip. It doesn't look like it, but you can remove the cap at the bottom of the mesh filter to make it easier to wash out all of the debris sucked up by the vacuum.
This is a great tool if you want to clean up a bit between water changes, or if you want to clean up during a water change but don't want to take out too much water. Highly recommend.

I just got the Sludge extractor yesterday, and immediately rip the box open and tried it out. The product comes in a few pieces and nothing was crack or broken as other reviewers has experienced. They even included batteries for the extractor. Assembly was very easy, and a push of a button gets the little pump going. I would say that the sucting power is about the same as my gravel siphon, definately not stronger and no way would it be able to suck a fish up. (I have some neon tetras in the tank) The fine screen traps the "eek" and let the water flows out. It was easy to use and easy to clean. Although for some reason, the pump would stop on it's own for no reason at all. I have no problem with the battery cover, it seems secure enough and it never pop open on it's own. This product can be improved by having stronger suction power. This carbon is too finely granulated for my use. It doesn't work well unless you use filter media to keep it in place. It seeps out of my Marineland 350 canister filter and gets in the impeller. Why oh why do local fish stores not carry these? The pump action to start the siphon is far, far superior to the vacuums that require you to move the entire nozzle, which is inexplicably so popular. This is very easy to start for water changes and far less stressful on the fish, not to mention my sanity. I will never go back to the other kind again.

The idea is a great idea. The hose is pretty good quality. The BAD PART is the CHEAP PLASTIC ACCORDION STYLE PUMP. It worked twice. If they were to replace the CHEAP Plastic Accordion with a Rubber Blub for the pump part, this would be great.I use this gravel siphon to clean the sand in my 40 G mixed reef tank. I mostly use it to clean up the waste that mexican turbo snails leave behind. The siphon has a pump where the hose is attached to get the whole thing started. I though this was good, but a lot of time the suction would simply not work and I would still have to use my mouth. Also, the siphon has a filter where the siphon is attached to the hose to prevent most of the sand from getting sucked out. Problem with this is that it also prevents the poop and other large waste to get sucked out as well. Eventually this filter gets clogged and has to be cleaned out every 30 seconds or so otherwise you lose suction.I still rated this 4 stars because when the filter is not clogged the suction is very strong and most of the sand stays in the tank. It is not perfect, but the best siphon I've used.

First of all, let me address some of the concerns mentioned here in other reviews. The heater is preset to warm your tank to 73 degrees. That may or may not seem like a huge difference to you depending on how warm you keep your home, where the tank is located and if the warmth of the basking light is helping to warm things up. This heater is meant to take the chill out of the water, not to "keep it warm". It's not meant for that and that is not what the turtle is looking for.Secondly, I have had great success with ours...EXCEPT (my OWN fault!)....when changing my turtles water, somehow my son plugged in the heater when the heater was not completely submerged. Huge problem in that it fizzled, sparked and popped umm not good. It does say it in the directions, but they don't really ever say what will happen if you plug it in early. Of course, common sense should dictate, but last night it did not. I spent hours cleaning out the new tank AGAIN and now I am back to buy another!
The plastic housing is great! Only once has my monster of a red eared slider been able to open it. She does manage to knock it loose once in awhile though! It's all good!!
Overall...I would buy again. I am buying again. I would recommend this for others as well!
I use the water heater in the winter months to keep the water in my turtle's tank from getting too cold at night, once I have turned off her heat lamp. I chose this particular heater over traditional aquarium heaters because it is housed in a plastic cage, and my turtle is very destructive. I have been using the heater since November and she hasn't managed to take it apart yet!

We recently received our Tetra Aquatic Reptile Heater, rated at 100watts and it has been great. Unit is built solid, has powerful suction cups and the option of routing the cord in 3 directions off one end. It says it is rated up to a 30 gallon tank, we have one that is 38 gallons (nearly full) for our 6" male Red Eared Slider turtle. He has checked it out, rested on it used it as platform etc and it hasn't budged or broken. The water stays at a constant 74 to 76 degrees. Our local pet shop charges $75.00 for a glass, unprotected heater of 75 watts. This unit was $16.99, protected and more powerful. It worked for 3 weeks, then just stopped. I called the TetraFauna people to ask for a refund and the guy told me that I needed to buy a bigger heaterit is not strong enough for a 30 gallon tank unless your room temp is 72F. So this only heats the water from 72F room temp to 78F. 6 degrees is all shes got. After that it just dies, apparantly.I've read other reviews off of amazon and this has horrible reviews-look elsewhere for a good tank heater.
