Each insert has a hefty amount of carbon in it, and this is an easy way to maintain your tank. I also get their ammonia remover inserts and foam. I could make my life more difficult, but why bother?

I use this carbon insert in the chemical cup of my 50 gallon Sea Clear aquarium. I will continue to use it. The three pack works for me I expect this box to last about four months. Buying the loose carbon and putting into your own bag may work for some but I cannot see dealing with the loose carbon. I just take a bag out, rinse, and insert into the chemical receptor !
