Exotic Environments Nile Crocodile Skull Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Nile Crocodile Skull Aquarium Ornament, Small, 3-Inch by 6-Inch by 2-1/2-InchThis has grey and brown paint on it. When I initially cleaned it (before use) in my sink, I noticed the paint coming off. I used a scrub brush and most all of the paint came off, turning the water in the sink cloudy. After several scrubbings and changing the water, it quit shedding paint. Didn't look as cool following the paint removal. It's been in my aquarium for several months now, and no paint issues tank and fish are fine. I's collected its own natural "patina" from algea, etc, and now looks fine (about the way it did with the paint). Has a hollow upper portion and my Dinosaur Bicher and Brown Loach Eels reside in there. My plecostomii like to hang out in the sheltered mouth area. It's a good decoration just be sure to get all the loose paint off prior to use. I'd recommend...with caution.

I love the way this thing looked in my tank, but had to remove it! I took it out to as I was cleaning the aquarium and noticed a stong chemical-like odor coming from it. I have a lot of experience with aquariums, and of all the strange smells I have encountered this was different, bad... and unnatural. :( Very sad cause it looked awesome, now it's on our bookcase...

It is very nice addition to my 10 gal aquarium. Would recommend this. I have baby fish that hide under the skull. In fact, I use it primarly to hold down a air stone that wants to float to the top.The bubbles coming from the croc head are fun to watch. I saw one at Walmart, price was just about the same.

We had to get this for one of our tanks when we saw it. It doesn't disappoint! Rather realistic and a good size, the fish love to swim in and out all the holes and our large pleco makes a habit of hanging from the roof of the skull's mouth. Definitely recommend it :)

Boyd Enterprises ABE16705 Chemipure Filter Media for Aquarium, 10-Ounce

Boyd Enterprises ABE16705 Chemipure Filter Media for Aquarium, 10-OunceChemi-pure is a bag of active carbon with ion absorption resins mixed in. It is a chemical filter that provides chemisorption and diffusion of gases, and the ion absorption resins as the name implies absorb dissolved ions in the water through a process known as ion exchange. It doesn't do anything for cloudy water but it isn't designed to, so I'm not sure what the last guy was expecting. It's like buying hand lotion and saying it doesn't do anything for sweaty armpits. For cloudy water he should have relied on frequent small water changes, or a diatomaceous earth filter.

For what Chemi-pure is specified to be used for, it is my favorite chemical filtration for my Malawi's. I typically stick two 10oz bags in the top bucket of my Eheim canister filter and fill the gaps with filter floss. On a rule of thumb, one 10oz bag is good for 40 gallons or less. It lasts about 3 months max.

the product is good in the filter canister for about 6 months. it is great also for fresh water fish tanks, but mainly to keep salt water marine life tanks.

Use this product for both my tropical and african mbuna cichlid tanks keeps water crystal clear and lasts longer than regular charcoal media. I keep in my overstocked cichlid tank for 4 months and 6 months in my tropical tank works great hasn't harmed any of my fish remember you still need to perform routine water changes but this product is a great assist to keeping water quality balanced recommend this product.

I only use once in awhile. Seems to help clear up my tank. A little on the expensive side though.

Our water has lots of problems like most places out West, so we have an R.O. system, but the PH is still not right unless I use Chemi-Pure in my filter instead of plain charcoal. I can tell the difference in fish behavior! They are much peppier when I use this in the filter, no hole-in-the-head disease, and clearer water, too!

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 819-Gallon Per Hour

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 819-Gallon Per HourThis has been pumping strong for quite some time now. I've got it in my wet/dry filter as a return pump submerged. It's nice to be able to adjust the flow when needed. It's very quiet and if you have the water appropriately filtered prior to the return chamber, it requires minimal mainteance. My Rio 800 venturi in the protein skimmer makes more noise than this. I have a piece of filter floss under it to help with vibration/noise.

Sicce Syncra 3.0 Aquarium Pump, 714gph

Sicce Syncra 3.0 Aquarium Pump, 714gphI'm a little hesitant to write this review as it's not a positive one and it seems that most people are quite happy with the product so maybe I got a defective one? I have no idea but I speak the truth on what's happening. This thing is not silent at all. I guess I fell prey to "silent" being in the name and chose it but if this is silent I would hate to hear a loud one. The pump is fully submerged. Water going in and out I guess is silent but the vibration created by the pump is HUGE. It vibrates the entire plumbing outake running through the aquarium which then vibrates the wood stand. This all creates a very loud HUMMMMM, (jokingly in the key of D for any musicians out there). Jokes aside though, it's very loud sitting next to my tv and stereo. I can muffle the vibration a little by holding the plumbing I did in a variety of ways and plan on securing the plumbing with insulation and straps to hold everything tight against the wood stand. This only minimizes the hum by the way. It doesn't eliminate it. If this method doesn't work I'd like to know how I'm going to figure it out or else I will have no choice but buy another pump. Over $100 is a LOT to throw away but this is by far the loudest thing running in the aquarium set up and it's ALL vibration. Somehow minimize the vibration it creates and it would be a nice pump but sheesh, should I have to DIY the thing like crazy to make it useable?

Let me start by saying that I invested heavily in my system to make sure that it was silent. I have spent 7-months "building it" with nearly custom everything. It is a 65G custom rimless Starphire setup with a Herbie overflow to a custom 20G rimless sump. The sump is sitting on 3/8" neoprene and the pump is sitting on a pump vibration pad from Bulk Reef Supply. The return and drain plumbing is all braided vinyl hose. So there is nothing connected which is fixed from the tank and stand to the sump. Everything is flexible, which should transfer no vibration and noise.

For the past week, I have been testing my system out with pure RO/DI water. There is absolutely nothing in the tank to clog or get in the impeller of the pump. And everything else is brand new. Several days ago, the pump has started to make a rather annoying vibrating, rattling sound. The sound gets louder as I increase the intake volume using the adjustable volute. Keep in mind I have only had this pump running for a week in pure RO/DI water and nothing else.

I thought the other reviewers were having problems because of user error or that their systems may have not been designed with silence in mind. However, now I agree with the other reviewers wholeheartedly. This pump is noisy and the sound keeps us up at night. This is with the tank in a completely different room. I am in the process of trying to find another pump. This was just going to be a temporary pump until the new Waveline pumps are available and then be a backup pump in case I ever needed it. However, I am returning this because I don't even want to keep it as a backup pump.

I've had it in my 50g reef tank a year with no issues. I havent even cleaned it. It did vibrate when it was touching the side glass, but I moved it and its basically silent now. People comment on how quiet my tank is. Its never failed to start or done anything funny. I've owned a few of these pumps on various things from skimmers to nano tanks and they're great.

Functions as intended. Quiet, I mean super quiet. Suction cup feet are practically worthless, I had to balance the pump on them in the wet/dry, they do not install securely to the pump. That's the only reason I did not give it 5 stars.

Want Sicce Syncra 3.0 Aquarium Pump, 714gph Discount?

The pump is quiet, very well made, small for its output, came with 2x adapters to fit 0.75 and 1" hose, and makes very little heat my tank temperature dropped the day after I replaced my Mag drive 9.5.

The plastic casing is high quality, not brittle and easily discolored like other brands. The tool-less maintenance is a huge plus, as is the fused magnet-ceramic shaft impeller, which won't

slow the pump down as it cannot lock up with calcium precipitate. The ends of the ceramic shaft are seated in ceramic bushings, which also resist precipitation.

I will update this review when I perform my first maintenance/cleaning.

got this to clean tubes of the filters in my aquariums. they work great. glad there is 3 different sizes to accommodate different tubes. have owned other brands of brushes where the bristles just fell out--i have not had that problem with these.

I ordered these brushes in the hope that they would effectively clean the bottom of my Marina S-20 aquarium filter. I love this filter, but it is really difficult to clean. Since the brush set comes from the same company, I thought these brushes could hold the secret to a sparkling clean filter. But, no such luck. The stems are too flexible and the bristles cover the sides of the stem, but don't extend around the bottom. So when trying to brush out the bottom of the filter, it is the base of the stem that hits the plastic instead of bristles. However, the smaller brushes are great for cleaning out tubes and the pump, which is why I am giving the set 4 stars.

Como Artificial Green Red Arch Style Plants Ornament for Fish Tank

Como Artificial Green Red Arch Style Plants Ornament for Fish TankI put this in my newly set-up tank for a couple months without fish (while I was cycling it). The plant archway is really nice looking. It is also quite inexpensive for a piece of aquarium decor/plant. As the other reviewer mentioned, I believe it has a wire inside to shape it. It seems well made, and has not affected water chemistry (as far as I can tell). Plus its not a plant/decor piece that you can easily find in stores locally.

I got some corydoras catfish a few weeks ago and they spend most of their time underneath this plant. They really love it! I also have a couple of nerite snails that crawl onto/into it occasionally as well. And as I said before, it is a nice looking plant. Probably my favorite plant/decor piece I have in my tank. I'm actually considering purchasing another one since the fish seem to love it so much.

^^Original review above.^^

-Update-

December, 2012

I recently took the plant arch out to clean it some. And once I did, I found something bad on the underside of it. On the underside of the ceramic base where the plant attaches to the ceramic part, I saw rust. Yes there was rust. There is a metal wire inside the plant, and clearly the decor piece was not sealed properly. Needless to say that it did not go back into my aquarium. How my fishies miss it! But for their health, they do not get it back.

Very nice plant. It has a wire inside so you can actually adjust it the way you like it and it is very realistic looking.

Coralife 77072 12X Turbo Twist UV Sterilizer

Coralife 77072 12X Turbo Twist UV SterilizerThis product saved me from selling my tank. I was dealing with cloudy water in my predator tank 220gal. I was so upset that I was going to sell the team but my lfs told me to use a uv light and this one cleared up my tank in less than a week and is still clear after running itfor about a month. I used push connect fittings from Lowes and is very easy to install.

I am very pleased with this sterilizer. I am using it on my 150 gallon FOWLR system with a moderate bio-load of fish. They all had a mild case if ICH, and since putting this sterilizer in place the ICH has improved. I didn't expect it to cure the ICH, but i think it improved the water quality enough that they were able to keep it in check. Installation was fairly easy and I have had no problems in the couple weeks it has been running.

Power-Glo Fluorescent Aquarium Bulb

Power-Glo Fluorescent Aquarium Bulb, 20-Watt, 24-InchMy aquarium came with a flourescent bulb that was a 'soft white/yellow color'. I didn't like it at all. This new bulb has made a world of diference to the aquarium! The water looks clean and blue and the colors of the fish seem so much brighter and reflective under the new bulb. I definitely recommend this bulb.

I was in love with this light the moment I turned it on. It seems like its not as bright as a daylight bulb but because of the nature of the light the fish and tank in general actually seemed better illuminated. My yellow Labidochromis still look nice but not glaring like they did with the daylight bulb. The blues of the Yellow-tailed Acei are especially enhanced and the Zebra Obliquidens are stunning.

Definitely measures up to the hype. An excellent bulb for African cichlids.

I have a planted(about 10 various plants) 36 g tank.

I had a stock bulb and my plants were brown and dying, got this bulb and at first I hated it.

The light color was purple, didn't like it at all. But after a few days, the purple tint went away(maybe eyes got used to it, or it's like that with all these bulbs at first).

It is now a few weeks after getting the bulb and my tank looks great. the water looks very clear, plants have regrown and look a ton better(still a tad dead spots)

Overall a very good bulb.

After two trips to the local pet store (I try to support small business whenever possible!) I ended up ordering this and it's EXACTLY what I wanted. The color gives more of a blue appearance (not too bright), and not that ugly yellow-ish hue that makes your water look dingy. I told the pet store that this is the color I wanted and they talked me into something different TWICE. They even gave me a lot of grief when I returned the first light they recommended and now I am nervous about returning the second light which looks like a blacklight.. No wonder online shopping is so popular?!

Pondmaster 02910 Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier 10watt

Pondmaster 02910 Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier 10wattThis UV filter works, but there are some strange issues with it. Hopefully my review will help other customers avoid the hassles I went through with this item.

The inlet/outlet barbs on this filter are supposedly sized to fit 3/4 inch tubing; however, oddly, the barbs are significantly smaller than they should be, so tubing goes on, hangs loosely, and then falls off if you move the unit around much.

In my experience with other pond products with barbs, barbs are designed to hold tubing quite snugly, without requiring the use of clamps (this is especially important if you have to open up the unit every month or so to do the recommended cleanings of the interior light cover, where clamps would be a major pain). There are no threads or any other way of securing tubing to this UV filter.

The issue of how to attach tubing to the unit caused a great deal of confusion for me when I first got the product. I took it to several local pond supply stores to see if they could help me figure out if I was doing something wrong. The pond supply folks were as puzzled as I was about why the barbs did not fit standard 3/4 inch tubing. We tried other sized tubing, but nothing fit properly.

I emailed the customer support people at Danner Manufacturing (the company that makes these filters). Their staff were entirely unhelpful. Eventually, the best they could manage in response to my request for instructions on how to attach the unit to tubing (and ultimately to my Pondmaster pump/filter unit), was to send me a sketch showing a UV filter attached to a pump (but no instructions or diagrams on how this was actually accomplished). This sketch was supposed to demonstrate that it was theoretically possible to attach the UV filter to other equipment. When I followed up with several emails asking them for details on -howto attach the tubing, I received a message that they were researching what types of adapters were needed, but then a week went by with no further communication from them despite an additional query from me. At that point, in frustration, I gave up on receiving any kind of customer support.

As the algae was continuing to build up in my pond and I was increasingly concerned for my fish, I decided to just try running the UV filter with the tubing loosely attached just to see if that would somehow be good enough. Lo and behold, when the UV filter is running, even if loosely connected to the pump via 3/4 inch tubing, a certain amount of suction occurs, allowing the tubing to stay connected (as long as you don't bump the UV filter or the tubing).

What this means is that, if you have a person to help you (holding the pump and any other attached equipment while you hold the UV filter and it's tubing), you can lay all of your equipment into the pond carefully, being sure nothing gets disconnected in the process, and then turn on the pump and UV filter. If everything stays connected, when you turn on the UV filter and pump, everything should stay connected -as long as you don't have big, heavy fish that like to nudge the tubing or any significant currents where your equipment is located.

Personally, I find this to be a tedious process (which will have to be repeated each time I clean the UV light cover and/or my filter), and I don't appreciate that there were no instructions about any of this included with the product. I also did not find Danner Manufacturing to be at all helpful in resolving this issue.

However, once I figured it out... the UV filter does do its job wonderfully! The pond is free of algae after about a week of run-time. I just wish I had known how to solve the installation issues and hadn't wasted so much time trying to figure this out.

This is the 10 watt Supreme Pondmaster Submersible UV Clarifier, model 29101. When water is circulated through it, the water is exposed to ultraviolet light that is capable of killing both suspended algae and bacteria. I have used several of these units in both marine aquaria (outside the tank) and in my pond (in the water) and they have performed perfectly.

The unit contains a tubular UV bulb protected by a slightly larger quartz sleeve. Danner says that the design causes the water to flow through the unit in a circular manner but I have never cut one open to see how that might be accomplished.

Build quality is excellent and I have had no problems with leakage of water either into the interior quartz sleeve and UV tube or out onto the floor.

It is important to remember that the quartz sleeve will gradually become partially occluded by deposits on the outside surface. For best results, you should disassemble the clarifier periodically (monthly is about right) and remove and clean the sleeve. Disassembly is quick and easy but be careful with both the sleeve and the tube when you do it.

The clarifier works well but beware: Danner advertises that the 10-watt model will be adequate for ponds up to 1500 gallons. This is extremely optimistic. If you begin with a pond that is absolutely clean and algae free, the 10-watt model might keep it that way, if used in conjunction with a good filter. However, if you are installing the clarifier to deal with a pre-existing problem, you should probably not count on it working well for ponds over 500 gallons. My pond is 650 gallons and the 10-watt device is barely adequate. There is relatively little difference (about $30) in the cost of the 10-watt and 20-watt models and using more UV than you need doesn't harm anything and adds at most a few pennies to you electricity bill. If in doubt, go with the 20-watt model.

Also, the specification calls for a 700gph pump (1800gph for the 20-watt model). Do not think that you can improve performance by using a larger pump. You probably won't hurt the device but the water will pass through it too quickly for the UV to kill the nasties. A pump that is too small just reduces the speed with which the entire volume of the pond passes through the clarifier.

One last caution: DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE UV TUBE WHEN IT IS ILLUMINATED NO MATTER WHETHER IT IS INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE QUARTZ SLEEVE. YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR EYES IF YOU DO SO.

This U V light system works amazingly well. Simple to hook up and use and very effective, cleaned up our pond water even faster than I expected. Our neighbors that have fish ponds are still cleaning their foam/mesh filters at least once a day and their ponds are still green. I'm cleaning my pad filter once every three to four days now and our pond is crystal clear. Very impressive that something this simple would work so well. I would highly recommend this pondmaster UV water filter to anyone.
