Tetra 29181 Finding Nemo Aquarium Cube, 1.5 Gallons

Tetra 29181 Finding Nemo Aquarium Cube, 1.5 GallonsI bought the Nemo for my son and the Ariel for my daughter. They both wanted a pet so we figured a fish would be the best for now. We saw these on the disney site (if you catch them at the right time of the month you can get it for half off the retail and cheaper shipping).

Great little design, no leaks, filter is cute and relatively functional, however the air pump is not very stable and is prone to falling over and making a loud vibrating noise. It seems to want to follow the hose, so make sure you position the hose well.

The tank includes almost everything you need, EXCEPT gravel. So, when your kids open it up looking for it, you will need to come up with a good excuse (or, after reading this review, buy it and have it ready). Food, water conditioner, decoration, lights, etc., are all included. Make sure to rinse everything very well. Be careful not to use any soap as the residue may kill anything you put into the tank. A good thorough rinse should do the trick. Then, try to fill the tank and let it run for a couple of days before adding a fish (we put one Beta in each tank and they are both doing very well). The acrylic is very clear, and the cover is VERY good for keeping toys, hands, etc., out of the tank. I did not give it five stars because of the pump and the lack of gravel. Even still, I would have given 4.5 stars if it were available, as the gravel is not such a big deal (don't forget to rinse it VERY, VERY well before adding it into the tank).

We bought this for my son's 3rd bday. He is a huge nemo fan. We opened the package and the tank was completely cracked. After reading the enclosed packing materials I finally figured out that we could take this back to the Pet Smart here in town. They were super helpful. They helped us determine that a BETA would do better in here than a goldfish. Goldfish need more space than this small (? 1.5 gallon) tank can provide. That was 3 + months ago and our "Nemo" is doing great.

This aquarium, along with other small "starter kit" aquariums are inadequate for the needs of most fish (even smaller fish like tetras and danios) and promote impulse buying of fish (particularly goldfish. more on that below).

Aquarium "kits" give many people the impression that they can just buy the kit, fill it with dechlorinated water, and dump in the fish. This causes so much heartache for the poor buyer, as they will see their brand new fish go belly up within days or even hours depending on the conditions of the tank and fish. :(

The reason for this is because in a "kit" aquarium, the buyer is not encouraged to CYCLE the tank That is, allow bacteria to build up in the systema process that can take days, but there are treatments that can be added to the water to speed up the process.

If that weren't bad enough, the dimensions of the aquarium here itself (1.7 gallons?) are severely inadequate for most types of fish, as I stated above. Fish need room to swim around, lest they become ill or overly stressed. (with the exception of really slow moving fish, of course...like bettas, etc).

In a large, healthy aquarium, there are many types of beneficial bacteria living in the ceramic media at the bottom of the filter. This is good. It breaks down the toxic fish waste and ammonia and all is well with the aquarium.

A small aquarium is doubly bad for the novice, as problems with the water quality can get deadly to the fish much much faster than they could in a large aquarium. There is no room for error in a tiny 1.7 gallon cube.

Though to a beginner, a large aquarium may seem daunting, the novice hobbyist will have much better luck with a 30 gallon. Water changes are done less frequently, and if the filter goes out in a 30 gallon aquarium, you won't have to drop everything and immediately go out and buy a new one. You can wait a day.

A little word about goldfish: goldfish require a large aquarium to suit their needs. They are very dirty fish, and produce lots of...err...waste, so they would need a larger aquarium as well as a pretty efficient filtration system. Even in a large aquarium (20-30 gallons) just one goldfish would require at least weekly partial water changes.

Goldfish also get HUGE. Some can grow to 8-12 inches. They can also live 20-30 years. So, when a goldfish dies after five years, it didn't die of old age...just so you know.

About my fish: I keep two Oranda goldfish (those are the little guys with puffy red caps on their heads) named Pork and Beans in a 25 gallon rectangular aquarium. When they get too big, I will either sell one, or transfer them to a larger 30-40 gallon.

hope this helps! :)

Got this tank for a Beta fish for my son. He loves it and it doesn't need to be cleaned very often. We clean it once every 2 weeks. Good product.

This aquarium is a very nice looking addition to my 3 year old son's room. He's been fascinated by fish & aquariums for some time, and now he loves to care for and look at the fish in his own room. The value of this package is excellent, as I've seen just the ornament alone selling for almost the price of this package!

A few extras you will need are: gravel, plants, fish food, AquaSafe drops, and a fish (combined additional cost is about $15).

Aquarium Nano Skimmer II

Aquarium Nano Skimmer III like this skimmer. Pulls a lot of gunk out of my tank. I use it in my 24 gallon Aqua pod. Nice product.

I have a 29 gallon biocube that I had drilled so I could add a sump. This little skimmer really does work. Started skimming light "tea colored" skimmate on the very first day and after a day or two I had it dialed in to a dark, yet watery skimmate. I don't think I will be able to get a thick skimmate, but it does work. My only complaint is the cup size is small. It does require daily emptying but I took some advice from another reviewer and I just suck out the contents with a turkey baster....overall I'm quite pleased. Once again, I have this skimmer standing in a small sump. I did not try to mount it in the back chambers of the biocube although I think it would fit. I just mentioned the biocube to relate the water volume I'm using this skimmer on.

I was hesitant to buy this after reading some of the negative reviews but I didn't want to pay over twice the price for the Hydor. I just wanted an inexpensive protein skimmer for a 15 gallon frag tank (salt water corals). It does produce lots of tiny bubbles in the raiser...a good thing. I didn't get much scum the first few days but now, after a week, I'm having to empty it almost every day. I use a turkey baster to empty the collection cup. So, great price for a little protein skimmer that does work. However if you have a 30 gallon reef tank or larger, I'd get the Hydor.

I have this skimmer in my JBJ 28gal nanocube and it is skimming well on day three. Took a slight modification to the outlet tube to get it into the skimming chamber on my tank (cut off the elbow). It is a wetter skim then I expected but works well.

I am using this skimmer on my old 24 gal AquaPod. It took a few days to break in. PLEASE NOTE!!! You must wash this skimmer before setting it up.

I feel like this is the best nano skimmer option for a tank 34 gal or smaller.

It pulls out a decent amount of waste for such a small skimmer. I am a happy customer!!

Coralife 54078 50/50 Square Pin Quad Compact Fluorescent Lamp, 96-Watt

Coralife 54078 50/50 Square Pin Quad Compact Fluorescent Lamp, 96-WattWe are very disappointed with this product. We ordered it in December and it's already burned out.

Typically these lights last for over a year, although we replace them more frequently as recommended. This one burned out in only 4 months.

When we inspected the burned-out bulb more carefully, we could see how poorly this light was put together. It's not surprising how quickly it burned out.

This light is too expensive for the horrible quality. We've had many aquariums, both fresh and saltwater, for over a decade, and this is single-handedly the worst aquarium product we've ever purchased.

The bulb fit into the socket perfectly and puts out a lot of light. Pretty much does what it's supposed to do. Five stars.

Excellent in bringing out iridescent colors in freshwater fish and for growing plants. I wasn't sure how this would pan out for a freshwater aquarium since the reviews I read discussed its use in saltwater set-ups, but I have to say I'm glad I took a chance with this 6700K lamp instead of going with the 10,000K "daylight" replacement lamp.

I am using the light on a 55 gallon hex aquarium with a canister filter system. I have a freshwater set-up with Discus, assorted tetras, swordtails, Chinese algae eaters, mickey mouse platys and several varieties of plants.

I've been using the lamp for a couple of months now and my plants are healthy and growing well. The fish seem comfortable with the intensity of the light and I have to say they look fantastic as the lamp really brings out their colors. When I replace this lamp I'll be purchasing another one just like it. What more can I say other than give it a try I'm confident you'll enjoy the results.

PondCare PH Up, 16-Ounce

PondCare PH Up, 16-OunceI wish this was available in a larger sized container. Our koi pond is not large, a little over 1200 gallons, but it will consume this size container rather quickly. The products (I have both pH UP and pH DOWN) are effective and safe if used correctly. I do not adjust my pH by any more than 0.1 at a time and I will wait at least 3 days in between adjustments. My fish are happy and healthy.

TaoTronics® 120w Programmable Intelligent LED Aquarium Lights Led Reef Lights for Coral fish Seawe

TaoTronics® 120w Programmable Intelligent LED Aquarium Lights Led Reef Lights for Coral fish Seaweed Tank, Run Sunrise Sunset Daylight and Moonlight Automatically,TT-AL12I was skeptical about this light at first because it was so cheap compared to other reef lighting. I finally bought one to see. It was sent from China to my house, but it was packaged very good and arrived in perfect condition. I have had it on my 60 gallon reef tank for two weeks now and I just ordered another. It is very nice looking and very bright, it runs very cool and the fans are quiet. Compared to my 250w mh well there is no comparing! Some mh fans might disagree but its true these lights are just as bright and even look better! The blue leds really make the corals pop! My acros look amazing everything looks like it is glowing! My tank is 24in deep and the light is bright enough for that. I do like that they use 3w leds at 2w because they are much brighter than the 1w led fixtures. I had a light that used 1w X 120w from ledwholesalers it was 350$ and it stopped working after 3 days. They wouldn't send a new one until i sent the broke one back! So I said f off. I got a refund. i am glad i did because now I have found this light. No reef lighting manufacture out there has lights that compare to this for 155$. Great BUY!!!!!!

I'm not the sort of person who writes reviews, and have always spent more, and gotten less... maybe a reversal of current, for me. This product came packaged very well, not a painted box with picture, strait brown....BUT from the time I opened the box, I had confidence, they packaged it like they cared about THIER product.....it was as secure as any item should be...this spoke volumes to me. Plugged them in, and I'm now a full fledged reef tank owner, can start buying the sps and clams, with lights that are clean, bright, built well, cost effective, and cost effective again, once for the low wattage and once for the 50,000 or so hours. I have two lights, 8 inches over a 90 gallon all the inhabitants have perked up.....give them a try, I don't think you will be disappointed, shipping was fast.

This a great product for the price but there is one catch that im going to share with you all. I ordered 2 of these units recently and when i received them i realized that there were two different units that looked very similar but were waaay different in quality. When i wrote Tao Tronics about this they said that i had received both a newer version and an older version of the same model. The "older' version had a reflective material over the LED's and the "newer " version was missing this material and was plain white where you could see the soldering of the wires to each LED. The older version was also less brighter and a different color than the newer version when lit, had cheap hanging supplies which were shorter than the newer version, the fans were 3 times louder as well. It wasnt even close to thier new and improved version but yet they still charged the same. They said they'd send me a newer version if i sent the old one back and then they sent me another older version. So i returned THAT older version too and got a refund. Then i created a whole new order in which they sent me a newer one. So now i have 2 of the newer units and let me just tell you, they are awesome and i still cant believe they are so cheap!!!If you buy these lights, make sure you check to see that are the newer versions like i described above, if not send it back and try again til you do. DONT GET CHEATED! I told Tao Tronics that its bad business to sell older models for the same price just to clear out thier back stock . They said they have no control over it. So do not allow them to get away with ripping people off and send it back if it has reflective material over the LEDS. Maybe theyll sell those old models for less instead of trying to get over on people. I hope this helps some of you get the most bang for your buck

I read a lot of reviews when I am buying a new product, but I often fail to write them. In this case, I cannot overlook the way I was treated when one of my two TaoTronics Reef Light had a little issue.

First let me tell you about the light set itself. I have had these running for 11 ours a day for the past 13 months. I have a 90 Gallon Reef tank with around 39 species of coral, ranging from SPS, to LPS and Zoas and Mushrooms. I started my tank 13 months ago and after doing a whole month of research and wanting to by a s very expensive sets of lights (AI brand at around $430 each) I decided to go against the advice from every pet store that I went into and after watching a video on YouTube from a fellow hobbyist who purchased a white version of this light set, I decide to buy some for myself.

My tank is bealtiful the coral growth is EXCELLENT, all of my rocks are covered with coraline algae, my coral have growed from 3X to 8x depending on the species. One month ago I had an issue with one of the lights, the blue LEDs went of.

I freaked out because I did not want to lose any of my coral. So I contacted TaoTronics since they have a 2 years warranty. They Contacted me back on the same day and gave me instructions to try troubleshoot the issue. After going through the steps and the issue was still there, I contacted them again. They issued me a RMA (return merchandise authorization) so I could return the defective one and if the issue was as described they would send me a new one upon receiving the defective one.

But, wait here is the best part. My wife accidentally shipped the defective set on regular ground. When I informed them of the fact that I was afraid of coral loss, they shipped me the replacement on express delivery, meaning the replacement arrived at my house even before they even got my defective unit.

NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! following is a copy of the emails that I exchanged with them throughout this process:

-------------------------------

Hello Lily,

Thank you very much for the detailed description of troubleshooting options. I was afraid to open the light and void the warranty but after reading your instructions I opened and follow each one of the steps.

The blue light is definitely not working. Both sides of the power supply work with the white light but neither work with the blue.

Can you please provide me with the address so I can send my light for this exchange? Also, would you like me to include the power cables with the lights?

Thank you very much

Rectangle coffee table aquarium, completely fish ready with hidden filter and LED lights

Rectangle coffee table aquarium, completely fish ready with hidden filter and LED lightsI needed an aquarium with a small footprint and good capacity. This product was a good choice. It was shipped promptly and safely. The reason this is not a 5 star review...a lack of instructions for the filter system.

Lee's The Ultimate Super Pump

Lee's The Ultimate Super PumpI needed a replacement T pump for my python water changer and this works> Just wanted to let everyone know.

I got this pump because a previous reviewer said it worked with the Python siphon. I needed to replace it. It looks exactly like it and the same size, but it's a different color (Python is green). This pump was a free shipping item and the Python pump was not, so I chose this one over the Python.

It hooks up to the faucet just like the Python, but make sure you keep the metal adaptor that came with your Python pump because the one that is on Lee's is plastic...booo. That can become weak and strip over time. Got everything hooked up just fine, but it was siphoning extremely slow. it took a while to get the water up the tube and to the sink and if I picked up the vac out of the water and then put it back in, the suction goes away completely. It won't suck up anymore unless I empty all of the water out of the entire line. Once it's all empty, I can slowly get my suction back. Oh, and if you hit the python switch to stop the flow for a second, the same thing happens. You have to empty all the water out of the line before you can start again. Very frustrating and takes a lot more time. It works but you'll be standing there for awhile. I have a 30g tank, so maybe people with smaller tanks have much more success. This is a great backup if you are in a bind, but I still suggest getting the Python pump for your Python vac.

Just got this little venturi, put it on the wash sink in the basement, which has a faucet that is threaded for a hose. Then hooked a full length garden hose to the side port and stuck the other end in the sump well, in the other corner of the basement.

Turn on the faucet, you create enough suction to raise water a few vertical feet through all that hose, believe it or not!

A lot easier than bailing the sump, if the power goes out.

Aquarium filters remove many harmful chemicals, but nitrates do accumulate over time, and the way to remove them is by periodic partial water changes, usually something like 20% per week. The old way was to siphon water out into a bucket, which was dumped down the sink, commode, or in the yard. The bucket was then refilled and poured back into the tank.

To change water in this manner was a little bit labor intensive on a small tank, and really time consuming on a larger tank.

I stumbled on my pump in a Thrift store, where I found it on a shelf for $1. In all honesty, I'm not 100% sure mine is Lee brand, as it wasn't in the original package, and there is no name on it. It may actually be a knock-off. Mine is made of blue plastic, and looks identical to the item pictured.

It operates by connecting it to a water supply, which can be either an outside hose spigot, or by using the adapter, a kitchen faucet.

Water flows through from top to bottom, past a venturi located where the side fitting is, creating a suction which will draw water out of the aquarium through a hose. I purchased 50 feet of clear vinyl hose from my local aquarium store, attached it to this device, and put a suction strainer on the other end to avoid sucking small fish into the hose.

In use, I drop the suction strainer into the tank, unroll the hose, and attach the pump to the water tap outside my front door. Opening the diverter (the blue collar) on the pump outlet, then turning on the water tap starts a siphon which removes as much water from my tank as I desire (water tap can be closed once siphon starts so long as the pump is lower than the tank, siphon will continue).

Closing the diverter on the pump outlet stops the siphon, and opening the water tap with the diverter closed refills the tank.

I can't imagine any way to make water changes any easier. I've been using this device for years now, and it still works great.

There are also attachments which allow you to vacuum the gravel with the water siphoning out of the tank, if you feel the need to perform this task (I never vacuum because I don't use an undergravel filter, because I use EcoComplete substrate, and because I have fish which eat any food which falls to the bottom, so for me, the need simply isn't there).

Want Lee's The Ultimate Super Pump Discount?

I bought this as a backup to my sump pump, I hook it to a hose in my basement shower and stretch a hose to my sump pump well. I tested it and it took no time at all to pump the well dry. Hopefully I won't need to use it in this way, but I am confident it will work next time we have lots of rain and the power goes out. Very cheap compared to other sump pump backup methods

Took 1 star off because i would prefer it to be a little more heavily built.

Instant Ocean SCPS-150 SeaClone Protein Skimmer, 150-Gallon

Instant Ocean SCPS-150 SeaClone Protein Skimmer, 150-GallonI am upgrading after having this for roughly two years. Frankly, it's a piece of junk. I have to adjust the air intake daily and clean the pre-filter every three days in order for it to even skim. Even when I get it skimming it only skims for maybe 24 hours. Did I mention that the drop down for hanging broke within the first year (big crack that dripped through my wood floors) so I was forced to make it in-sump? I would NOT recommend this skimmer to anyone unless you're merely looking to swirl large bubbles around a cylinder. Drop the dime on a heavy duty skimmer and you won't watch your water quality slowly decline as I did. Also, buy big, as you really can't over-skim.

good skimmer for the money

Purchased this item regardless the negative reviews for my fish only 120 gallon tank, and I do not regret it one bit. Having previously returned a skimmer I bought from Amazon ( the no name cheapie from China) that did nothing but produce a plethora of micro bubbles and was damn near impossible to adjust to do anything but; I got this one because while it's still on the budget, it's a brand name. This thing does not dissapoint. Took a few days to get going, but once it did the tank cleared up and the water quality improved. Also it was easy as pie to assemble and install, and cleaning is a breeze. Is it the best out there, for $100 of course not, but it does what its supposed to do and it does it well. Unless you have a reef tank, this skimmer will perform admirably, especially when combined with ample filtration. Buy this thing and save a few hundred bucks.

Want Instant Ocean SCPS-150 SeaClone Protein Skimmer, 150-Gallon Discount?

I've used many Marineland products for over 25 years on my freshwater tanks (their Magnum canister filters are excellent) and while I'm sure they make many other great products, the SeaClone Protein Skimmer ain't one of them. The problem inherent with this product is you are CONSTANTLY and FOREVER adjusting the air intake valve (and the air valve they supply is crummy--I had to replace that with something more accurate). When it's working properly, it works fairly well, but compared to say, a Remora Protein Skimmer, it doesn't work THAT well really. I'd estimate it worked properly 45 to 50 percent of the time, but when you have tons of money invested in a reef aquarium, you want something that will work properly and efficiently. I understand some rework can be done on the unit to enhance it's performance, but really, while it's not the most expensive skimmer out there, why should one have to go to all that trouble? Save your money and for another $65, you can get yourself a Remora Pro Protein Skimmer that is practically maintenance free and starts working almost from the day you plug it in.

Aquatic Fundamentals 20/29/37 Gallon Aquarium Stand with Shelf

Aquatic Fundamentals 20/29/37 Gallon Aquarium Stand with ShelfThis aquarium stand works well. The construction is study enough for a 29 gallon aquarium and some books on the shelves. Very simple design, which I like.

Very well made and sturdy tank stand; I'm very impressed, specially for the price! Assembling it took about ten minutes tops, and was extremely simple.

I used it for my 25 gallon Aqueon 24" on the top shelf and also set my 3 gallon nano tank on the middle shelf with no problems so far! I couldn't be happier, and will buy again from the seller.

Potential buyer should note that the screws that hold the legs of the tank protrude on the top shelf , and might damage the bottom of a tank that is set on it. Likewise, the stand is NOT waterproof, mine bubbled up with in minutes of water being spilled on it!

Buy Aquatic Fundamentals 20/29/37 Gallon Aquarium Stand with Shelf Now

I like the open shelves, and it's sturdy enough to hold my ten gallon tank.

It is a bit wobbly, but this shouldn't be a concern at all if you don't have kids or aren't pushing up against it. Also, there are four screws that pop out a bit on the top shelf, for the tank, but I placed a towel between the tank and the shelf and it's covered up.

Good value, does its job.

Lee`s Aquarium Betta Hex Dual

Lee`s Aquarium Betta Hex DualJust because a Betta can survive in small conditions because in their natural environment during the drought season doesn't mean that we should keep them in those conditions. Many Bettas don't survive these rough conditions that nature provides in their home territory. If you buy small cups and throw a fish in themyou are just condemning them to solitary confinement in a prison cell. My Betta is in a 10 gallon tank and you wouldn't believe the fun he has exercising and playing in all that space. If you careyou would never subject this beautiful creature to cups of water if you saw them in gallons of HEATED (they are tropical fish) water!!!!!! Study this fish and you will understand that we take for granted their survival mechanisms and exploit them for our own foolish pleasure.

Too small. Bettas need at least a gallon size tank.

I would never force a betta to live in that small of a tank, let alone two.

Buy Lee`s Aquarium Betta Hex Dual Now

note before my review: Yea ok, so everyone QQing over this needs to just think about it from a breeders standpoint...I jar my bettas in quart mason jars. The males anyways. I do not see how this is any different. The ONLY downside and I mean ONLY, is that the divider is not a solid color, preventing the males from seeing each other. Is this meant for keeping a betta forever and ever as a HOME? No...But as a breeding standpoint, it is fine. If you are stupid enough to think a breeder would have a gallon-per-male, you are wrong. It is more cost and space efficient for mason jars, beanie baby boxes, or these small acrylic breeders.

So.........if you dont like it because it is "cruel", dont write a review. Reviews are only helpful if you point out flaws in construction, pricing, etc. Your opinion means jack from a consumer standpoint.

I rate this product a 4, and that is because the divider is NOT a solid color. Bi-weekly water changes are suggested and this setup is NOT suggested for long-term use.

All Glass Aquarium AAG21603 Fluorescent Deluxe Hood, 35hex

All Glass Aquarium AAG21603 Fluorescent Deluxe Hood, 35hexThis is exactly what I wanted. Was easy to find and was shipped fast! The description and picture were great!

I bought this for a tank that I bought as a stand alone tank, not a kit. The hood seems to let very little water evaporate. At least the water level does not drop as much as my rectangle tank. The tank is thick enough to remain ridged yet thin enough to cut extra holes in. I have 2 hoses, a heater, and a hang on the back filter. Another plus is that it does not allow the water that does evaporate collect on the light.

Advertised that hood will fit almost all 35 gallon hexagon aquariums. This was far from true. Hood was many inches too large.

Aquatic Fundamentals Black 16 Upright Bowfront Aquarium Stand

Aquatic Fundamentals Black 16 Upright Bowfront Aquarium StandI've had two aquariums for several years -a 40 gallon Marineland Eclipse 3 and a regular 10 gallon Tetra -and I wanted to upgrade the 10 gallon to a slightly larger tank, and so I purchased the Aqueon 16 Bow Front Deluxe Aquarium Kit Black. Previously, I had kept my 10 gallon on a dresser, but I really wanted an attractive-looking stand for my new aquarium kit. The Aquatic 16 Upright Aquarium Stand was a reasonable price, had clean and simple lines, and appeared unobtrusive, so I decided to take a chance on this product. The stand arrived in a very timely manner -shipping was good. All the pieces were intact and without scratches or marring. This stand was easy to assemble (my 13-year-old son put it together for me), all the parts fit together, and we weren't left with any mystery parts! There is a slight gap at the sides of the door, which can be seen in Amazon's picture. My Aqueon Bow Front fits perfectly on this stand -it's just the right size for a 16 gallon aquarium. My only complaint is that the inside of the stand is completely empty space -there are no shelves. Therefore, it's wasted space. Yes, you can put your power strip and air machine at the bottom inside the stand, but this product would be so much nicer if it had even just one shelf on the inside, for storage purposes. I can recommend this aquarium stand as a solid, basic stand, that doesn't try and be fancy; one's attention goes to the fish aquarium, not the stand that's holding it. We haven't had the stand for very long, so as far as durability goes, I will update this review if we experience any problems with stability or structure.

Gulfstream Tropical AGU030SM Mag-Float Glass Aquarium Cleaner, Small

Gulfstream Tropical AGU030SM Mag-Float Glass Aquarium Cleaner, SmallThis magnet works. Unlike scrub sponges, your arm stays dry. The surface of the magnet that goes inside the aquarium is rough enough to actually take the algae off the glass. Unlike another brand of algae magnet that I've used, it floats, so you don't have to tie a string to it. If you haven't used magnets before, keep in mind that there will be places in your aquarium that a magnet may not be able to reach or you may have to move things around to get there (i.e. around the filter and heater). If your aquarium's close to the wall, getting to the back of the aqarium gets tricky too. A yardstick helps. Whatever you do, please don't buy this product for an acrylic aquarium. It's meant only for glass like it says in the title. The manufacturer makes one for acrylic. I can't review that one since I've never had acrylic, but make sure you're getting the right kind for your tank.

I wreaked my 55 with these magnets becuse i didnt notice tiny iron particals that must have came from the sand got stuck to the mag. at first they worked great from me i plan to buy a new one just giving anyone new to this product the heads up to keep an eye on the magnets make sure their clean!

I've used this for over a year and here are my thoughts.

Pros:

Works great on GLASS aquariums.

Cleans the algae on the glass great, just make sure you use the rough side to do the scraping.

Cleans without you having to get your hand down in the water.

Easy to take the Mag Float around corners

Cons:

Hard to clean at the corners and seams of the glass.

Be careful if you have sand in your tank as it can scratch the glass if sand particles get trapped in the Mag Float as you drag it around.

Tips:

When you are cleaning corners I find it easier to put the Mag Float vertical and drag it up and down rather than horizontally. You'll get more coverage that way.

When you are finished cleaning, take the Mag Float to the top and pull away your end of it so the Mag Float floats up to the surface nearest where you just released it. Then just use your fingers and grab it out of the water. If you take your end and grab it with the magnet then you'll likely splash yourself and your surroundings.

Overall I give this 4.5 stars. Hard to clean the corners but it is what it is and great maintenance between full-blown tank cleanings.

Highly recommended.

There have been a lot of reviews about how it scratches your glass if sand gets in it, but the product has warnings. The size is 1" X 2", really unexpected but it's good. It says on the back of pack:

Clean outside aquarium surface thoroughly before each use.

Remove all debris from Mag-Float prior to each use.

Do not use Mag-Float above waterline or on dry surface.

Keep Mag-Float away from the gravel line and glass aquarium sealant.

The magnet part with logo Mag-Float is placed on the outside aquarium surface.

Mag-Float can be left attached to aquarium surface.

Mag-Float can be used on fresh/saltwater aquariums.

Keep Mag-Float away from electronic devices such as computers, pace makers, etc.

Manufacturer/Distributor assumes no liability for any damages to your aquarium due to improper use of product.

All other reviews that complain have simply been a result of misuse. This is a great product. I recommend it, but please pay attention to the size of this one, 1" X 2"

This magnet is better suited for glass aquariums that get a lot of algae on the surface of the glass. For day-to-day or average use, the magnet bristles are too harsh and will gladly host any particles floating in the water that will scratch your glass. So be careful, they way to use it is to rinse both surfaces of the cleaner (outside and inside) to make sure there aren't any particles stuck. Then, as you are doing a water change, use a sponge to wipe the inside of the aquarium making sure you eliminate any particles or sand stuck to the glass. Then use the magnet (make sure you pair it only once). If you follow this process you will reduce the chances that you will scratch the glass. I am giving it two stars because for me all these steps are an inconvenience.

Aquarium Wood - Medium

Aquarium Wood - MediumJust note that it does say random picking, I did think it would be at least similar to the pic above, ie a "branch" grouping, and mine was like a log on its side. But saying that, I put it in my tank anyway and it looks great.

Although the base had to be reattached before it was put in my tank it looks great with it sitting in 3 inches of substrate and is 2 inches from the top. Good value.

Ancient Shipwreck - Stern - 9.5 in. x 4.5 in. x 8.5 in.

Ancient Shipwreck - Stern - 9.5 in. x 4.5 in. x 8.5 in.The picture doesn't do it justice. I was surprised at how nice this looks in the tank. Also, I keep Kribensis (pulcher) and they just absolutely love this ship. As soon as they see it and go inside it's home. I keep a small cave next to this wreck and it's perfect.

I put some Cabomba and let it stick out of one of the top holes. I'm getting ready to order another.

Hydor H2Show Lost Civilization Background with Application Gel for Aquariums 31.5"x15.75"

Hydor H2Show Lost Civilization Background with Application Gel for Aquariums 31.5'x15.75'I love the design and the concept. The colors in the image on your screen will be identical to the colors on your aquarium background when it arrives, very saturated for a nice effect.

Furthermore, the item arrived promptly.

That said, the resolution of the image is CRAP. I have to be honest. When I look through my fish tank, I can see the poor resolution quality just as I could when I was holding the background up in person and looking at it. Furthermore, the background arrived rolled up, and the roll was crinkled! Fortunately, I was cutting a small piece of this background out as I have a small fish tank, but nonetheless, if I were using the background to its full capacity I would have been angry. True, it likely wasn't sent by the manufacturer crumpled up, but the fact that it likely got damaged during shipping tells me that the seller needs to package it better.

I LOVE the design. I LOVE the shipping speed. But the image quality and the fact that the background arrived crinkled makes this an unacceptable buy for nineteen bucks. I'd pay no more than 8 dollars--or less than half of what I just paid--for it if I were to buy again.

This looks much better on the aquarium than even in the picture. Mine did arrive bent as if the box was crushed. I layed it out for a week to straighten (so it lost a star) before adhering it to the tank. I cut it down to fit a 20 gallon tank and used the oil sparingly on the cling. It took about an hour to get all the bubbles out with a kithchen spatula but the effect is worth it.

UPDATE

After 6 months this won't stay on the tank no matter what I do, edges curl and air pockets streak the background. I would not buy this again.

The resolution of the image is poor (aka blurry) but isn't a problem when seen from a distance. The image is very dark! You cannot see the details of the ruins or jungle plants like the in example photo. This image is nearly all black with some brown and gold accents such as the sun or reflecting water in the image. The size of this was wrong for my tank (40gallon.) It ended up being too tall, but not long enough. I used black paper to create a border to hide where the image was short on either side. I'm thinking of adding the ornaments since they might hide the exposed edges but since I'm not using this tank for fish...I'm not sure. Overall I really like the idea of these fantasy scenes since they are very different than all the other backgrounds which are rather dull. Needs to come in more sizes for larger tanks! Neat idea but certainly needs some work. I like this and my Tortoises seem to like the change. Didn't use the gel, just used tape. If this image was lighter so you could see all the details I would give this 5 stars for coolness, but you can hardly see the plants or anything.
