I got this heater because I bought one at petsmart and it was HORRIBLE! This was the cheapest one online and I am actually surprised by how well it works. My turtle seems much happier now. The only thing that I think is wrong with it are the instructions. They come printed on the box and are not very specific so I had a hard time figuring out how to operate it. Overall, it's an awesome product!

An excellent looking and performing heater. Good features and is doing a really good job controlling the temperature. Worth the money, assuming it lasts. It's been performing admirably for a month already.

I bought this heater to replace a Fluval E series that was no longer holding a stable temperature. The temperature is much easier to set than the Fluval with only one button to press. The adjustment lever on the Fluval would stick making it hard to set. This is by far easier to adjust than any heater I've owned. The current temperature display is also easy to read from across the room. You can place the heater in any position because of the external sensor. The temperature fluctuates only within one degree F of the setting and I verified the current temperature display is accurate with a separate thermometer.

The heater arrived with one of the suction cups slightly deformed so that it wouldn't stick to the glass. I contacted the manufacturer and they responded within a day. I received a set of replacement suction cups about a week later free of charge. I highly recommend this product based on the quality of the product and customer service. I've been keeping aquariums for years and I know through experience that a quality heater is important, a malfunction can easily crash your tank.

We got this heater for our 10 gallon tank. We live in a warm climate where we don't always need to turn the heat on at night for ourselves, but do need to make sure that the fish tanks are still kept at the right temp. As I said this is being used in our 10 gallon tank. It's just short enough not to hit the bottom and I really like how the heater tells you the temp of the water. It's also really easy to operate and adjust the temp. if needed. It seems much better than our old heater. It was wicked easy to set up and has been in the tank for about a month now.

I got this heater for 5 gallon aquarium for my betta fish... My fishie was frustrated, started flaring (by its nature its a fighting fish and has territory issues lol) by the red light of the heater. I found a way to overcome this.. I had to arrange the heater so that the reflection of the red light doesnt fall on the glass of aquarium. Now my fishie really loves this one! It keeps circling happily around the heater when I turn it on. The glass material of heater was easy to clean however the plastic part gets slimy and needed more cleaning... I wouldnt mind that as my fishie really loves it!

The check valve will prevent water from siphoning out of the aquarium and on to your floor if your pump fails and the air valve allows you to adjust the air flow to your filter.

I've noticed uneaten food is sticking to the filter so it is adequately pulling debris onto it (doing it's job) it fits well in the tank corner and is safe for my Betta's fins.

I highly recommend this filter. Shipping was prompt and came in good condition.

I love this filter for the 10 gallon aquarium as it fits in the corner nicely and doesn't take up a lot of room. It does a great job in keeping the water cleaner. Just because a betta CAN live in a tank this size doesn't mean they SHOULD. YOU can live in a carboard box, but you'd probably hate it. Betta's need five gallons of water to be happy. Tanks like this are cruel.

Hagen Laguna Pro Fish Net, 15-1/2-Inch by 18-1/2-Inch by 29-1/2 to 55-Inch Metal Handle

My old net finally had the net fall off the handle and it can no longer be shoved back on. This has a much better design and looks like it will last a long time. Also, the hanging loop makes for very easy storage. The shape also allows for "trapping" a medium to large goldfish (medium to small koi) in a certain spot while still allowing it a bit of freedom.

This is by far the best fish net I have ever bought! The handle and the extendable shaft are very, very sturdy. I can easily reach the bottom of my pond to remove the leaves without the shaft bending. This makes me very happy. The plastic guard at the top of the frame is another reason I love this net. My old nets were easily torn and ripped when the net was loaded with leaves or fish or water from the pond because the net was unable to sustain the weight. I definitely recommend this net to anyone who has a fish pond. It is a must have!

Prime shipment was quite impressive, got it less than 24 hrs after I ordered.

The net and its handle are made of good quality material. In my case, I only have small pond (300 gallon Rubbermaid tank) so the extension of the handle is somewhat a mute point for me. But I did test it and it worked fine. The net has been sewn together quite well and there is no ridges that may hurt the fish. I actually used the net to transfer my 7 X 12 in KOIs from old tank to the new one. Boy oh boy, they were not happy being lifted off the tank and they twisted and twirled a lot. But so far, there were no scratch marks on them at all.

I now use this same net to remove the leaves and pine cones that happened to fall in to my pond. It works pretty well. The small loop of string at the end of the handle is handy to hang it near by. The one thing that I am not quite used to it is that the net frame is not firmly lock to the handle. I mean it can still rotate around the handle. May be it has been designed to be like that.

ProClear Aquatics Motorized 150 Gallon Protein Skimmer

This is a very well designed and constructed protein skimmer. Has a small footprint taking up minimal space inside the sump. Optional drainage port is terrific. Nice touch to include tube for optional drainage port! Extremely easy to put together. Water level adjustment is very simple to use simply hold the middle of pipe and gently pull up or down on the elbow. The sight tube is a nice addition. Seems to work well and skimming is efficient. The only reason that I'm giving only 4 stars is I did not like the included Rio 2100 pump and the skimming is not as efficient as AquaC Remora/Urchin. It is large, heavy and bulky. I think Rios are not reliable either. I had to change to a Quiet One 2200 pump which is more compact to be able to fit with room leftover in my sump. If I tried to use the Rio pump, it would have been an extremely tight fit and Visi-Therm stealth heater would need to be removed. I had a tough time finding a compact skimmer for my 100-125 gallon sump that had an optional drainage port. This is a great buy even if you need to spend $25 for a compact Quiet One pump or stick with Rio pump if you are not picky.

Does exactlt what it is supposed to do and was very easy to put together. Worth the money.

I have a small tank (5-1/2 gallon) with 4 fancy guppies and 2 cory catfish. One of the catfish developed white spots and red streaks, appeared to have balance problems & stopped eating, while all of the other fish seemed to remain healthy. I am new at keeping fish, and admit I have no idea exactly what was affecting this catfish. I removed him to a hospital tank and dosed him with a different product which clearly hurt rather than helped. I returned him to the main tank and dosed it with a combination of Mardel Coppersafe and Maracyn Two. This caused no adverse reaction from any of the fish, and the ailing catfish began to look better. After five days of the combination meds, the catfish has no signs of distress and the spots and red streaks have completely disappeared. I hadn't thought he would survive, but he is now busily searching for food and he looks healthy. I will continue treatment with Coppersafe for a total of 30 days to be sure there are no more infestations in the tank or filter. Coppersafe does not die the water blue nor does it stain the tank. Mardel Customer Service was easy to reach and very helpful when I had questions about their products. Coppersafe used with Maracyn Two treats a wide spectrum of problems and certainly worked well for me.

I researched this product and found it recommended by many people, it worked just as described. I had contracted a bad case of anchor worms in my tank and was concerned that medication would harm the Blue Lobster that lives with my fish. This products direction said it can be used with invertebrates in the tank. I am pleased to say, this product has cleared up the infection and we are all happy including the Blue Lobster.

Doesn't say anywhere in the instruction that it may be harmful, but it killed my BN pleco. I did the research afterward that I should have done in the first place and found that this is a common complaint. My low rating is because it should have a warning about the risk to those kinds of fish, not just invertebrates and plants. The tank didn't have ich, I was just using it as a preventative.

Lee`s Aquarium Betta Hex Dual

Just because a Betta can survive in small conditions because in their natural environment during the drought season doesn't mean that we should keep them in those conditions. Many Bettas don't survive these rough conditions that nature provides in their home territory. If you buy small cups and throw a fish in themyou are just condemning them to solitary confinement in a prison cell. My Betta is in a 10 gallon tank and you wouldn't believe the fun he has exercising and playing in all that space. If you careyou would never subject this beautiful creature to cups of water if you saw them in gallons of HEATED (they are tropical fish) water!!!!!! Study this fish and you will understand that we take for granted their survival mechanisms and exploit them for our own foolish pleasure.

Too small. Bettas need at least a gallon size tank.

I would never force a betta to live in that small of a tank, let alone two.

note before my review: Yea ok, so everyone QQing over this needs to just think about it from a breeders standpoint...I jar my bettas in quart mason jars. The males anyways. I do not see how this is any different. The ONLY downside and I mean ONLY, is that the divider is not a solid color, preventing the males from seeing each other. Is this meant for keeping a betta forever and ever as a HOME? No...But as a breeding standpoint, it is fine. If you are stupid enough to think a breeder would have a gallon-per-male, you are wrong. It is more cost and space efficient for mason jars, beanie baby boxes, or these small acrylic breeders.

So.........if you dont like it because it is "cruel", dont write a review. Reviews are only helpful if you point out flaws in construction, pricing, etc. Your opinion means jack from a consumer standpoint.

I rate this product a 4, and that is because the divider is NOT a solid color. Bi-weekly water changes are suggested and this setup is NOT suggested for long-term use.

TOM Aquarium Rapids Mini Canister hang-on-the-tank C-80, 80gph

I'm using this for a 10gal heavily planted freshwater tank. It's very quiet and the spray bar discharge is excellent for my plants. The output stem arrived broken but Amazon sent me an entire new unit and TOM sent a replacement part, excellent service from both. The best feature is the ease in using custom filter materials. I use an AquaClear 300 sponge on one side and BioMax in the other. Seems to do the trick. No stop valve to help maintenance, as in more expensive canister filters, but at this price it's understandable.

UPDATE: My shipping charge for returning the original unit were also refunded, Amazon's return policy is excellent!

UPDATE 2: Jan. 2012, it leaks, replaced it with a Finnex 360. It's a little larger, we'll see how long this lasts.

I got this to use with a 2 gallon betta tank. The plan was to use it as a filter and also increase total amount of water. It seemed perfect as the spray bar would avoid causing a current which my betta does not like. For some reason i just assumed that it would have a flow control, but, as it turns out, there is no flow control and the spay bar sprays water much like that in a kitchen sink. Its way too powerful for smaller tanks. Dont bother with this for tanks 5 gallons or less. The quality of the hoses are suspect, they dont seem like they would last. I got the palm azoo instead for my 2 gallon betta and its perfect! The flow control turned all the way down provides a gentle filter output.

11/02/2010 CORRECTION. I did exactly as the buyer "Professor Bubba" suggested in review of "Zoo Med 501 Turtle Canister Filter" : I replaced the filter that came with pump with a nylon bag ($1.50) purchased at pet shop filled with over-the-counter activated carbon (got the entire carton for $6.50)and could not believe the results. It's been two weeks so far and water is clear. Thank you Bubba. ..and Yes this filter seem to be capable of producing crystal-clear water.

Initial thoughts:

The filter is dead silent. I switched from a HOB Whisper filter to this canister filter.. and wow. After leaving the room it's being used in for several hours and walking back in, I thought it had stopped workingI couldn't hear a thing!

The filter media included is so-so. Though I haven't been able to see how well the ceramic media works, I can already tell that the other included media wasn't all that great. Read up on what kind of filtration you want(chemical, mechanical, biological, etc.) and make your own media.

SO FAR, the only con I have:

The hoses. They're tragically short and hard to manipulate. You can't bend them into place at all. I may switch out the included hose for a different one.

I spent a good quarter of an hour wrestling with the hoses to let the water distribute through my TEN GALLON tank as efficiently as possible, and it's still not what I want. Oh well.

Overall, it's easy to modify this little canister with your own filter media, it's silent, and it's powerful.

I've had this sucker running for a month, so it's time for an update.

The hoses seem to have loosened a bit, so that's kind of nice. I'm still planning on replacing them with longer and more flexible tubing if I can.

No leaks, no damage, the impeller is still running smoothly without any noise.

You'll want to make a media basket for the ceramic. I'm working on a plan to make a partition for the side that gets the water from the tank so the pipe leading in isn't so difficult to shove back in after cleaning. Again, if you're going to get this filter, prepare to play around with the filter media.

ALSOthis little guy does NOT have a shut off valve. Be warned! Not only can this make things messy but it can be difficult to prime the filter again. I'll add shut off valves when I replace the hoses so I don't get fish water all over my dorm. If you don't build one, get a bucket or cut a gallon milk jug in half to catch any water that comes out and QUICKLY lift the top of the filter above your tank to stop the water flow!

So far, it's working great on my little planted tank. It's perfect for my Betta boy and his Corydoras catfish friends. My bio load may be small at the moment, but it's keeping the water wonderfully clean with minimal maintenance on both the tank and the filter.

Overall, this filter has some major flaws, but it is great for the price you pay.

The filter has been running strong for almost a year now. Still silent and still good at what it does. If I have any complaint it's that this little guy has ruined HOB filters for me.

Admittedly, I never bothered with replacing the tubing, but I will update if I do.

Ok first off this canister filter has great potential i bought one on sale when i saw the carbon bag in it i immediately tossed it out (garbage). how to set it up : first get a peice of bio foam and cut it to fit snug on top of intake side then put some aquarium cotton , then cut a polishing pad to size then u have the ceramic rings at the bottom on the return side i put in a marine land activated carbon bag wrapped it around the return tube , wallah pro filtration five stage filter in seconds i use it for my 20 g long marine tank and the water is crystal clear for a whole month !!!then flow starts to slow down no problem just do ur monthly maintenance and flow will be back to normal. 26W Blue White Energy Saving Coral Plant Refugium Bulb For Finnex

I have had the coralife bulb, the colormax bulb and this bulb. I have got to say this is the brightest, longest lasting and gives my tank the cleanest look of all three. First thing you notice is the difference in wattage. This bulb is 26Watts and the other two are only 10 watts a piece. For tanks larger than 5 gallons the other two are not enough! For SPS and Acros you need more watts per gallon than what the other two can produce. This bulb is perfect for my 3 gallon Pico and it doesn't produce that much heat at all. This bulb may be $4 more than the other two but you will be more than satisfied with this one.

I use 2 of these on my fuge and my macro algae grows like crazy. It also helps support the corraline which I could take or leave in my sump. I like that it grows the corraline because it releases spores back into the Display tank.

I had bought about six (or eight?) of these Bulbs, allured by the 26W and price. I put 2 of these in my planted 2 Galons tank. At the beginning I was happy as it seemed to be a great deal and my plants were growing happy. However, after two or three months max, one of the bulbs went off. No problem, bad luck, I thought, and proceeded to replace the bad one. However, the same history has been going on and on: on a max of 2 months life for a bulb. I really like the bright and the price, but it is a pain having to replace at least one of them too frequently.

I think I will move back to my old brand, less power (20W) but more dependable (+1 year).

I put two of these in my 10g nano saltwater tank and boy was it bright! Tank had way more then enough light, though it for sure is best for a refugium. Too much white light, zoo's didn't respond amazingly well to it, but it worked, star polyps sustained, didnt really grow a ton. Biggest let down is after only MAYBE 2 months the bulb burnt out. Now I have one of these on half my tank and a 10w 50/50 on the other I got from Petsmart. That side isnt as bright but the corals respond MUCH better. All and all, the light is bright, and would be great for refugiums, but keep it out of the main tank for sure.

It is actually a pack of 2 20-30 gallon filters. i would highly suggest getting 2 powerheads for this set up and only using one tube on each filter. it is set up to have 4tubes with noisy air bubblers. Power heads filter more water, create better circulation, and are much more quiet. My fish and i are quite happy with it.

This is a typical undergravel filter that I needed to replace the original one that I purchased many years ago when I purchased my aquarium. It works well.

The product I received is NOT the one in the picture. The one pictured has organic looking bottom, and looks like a one piece design that's very 3 dimensional. But the one I received has a very industrial cheap end of plastic mold bottom. Worst, it's not one piece at all, it's just 2 totally separate flat pieces, that does not even clamp together or anything. I'm just too lazy to return it. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK. Noway is this worth 6 bucks, maybe a dollar it's OK. 2 mold stamped flat pieces of plastic is not worth anything.

I got this tank with a betta in mind, and it works perfectly for that purpose. I have no complaints at all about the tank itself--but I do want to give some warnings. A goldfish needs more along the lines of 10 gallons per fish, not 2.65. A betta however will be just fine in this tank. The problem with most fish kits is that they are never big enough for the fish they're made for. Goldfish also need way more filtration, and I will warn you that the filter that comes with this kit is pretty much useless. However, anyone looking for a good, simple betta tank should do absolutely great with this one. Although I haven't tried it myself, the 1.77 gallon variety of this tank would probably be fine too. I'd also recommend getting your own gravel and plant, the gravel is far too cheap and rough, and the silk plant had strings coming off of it that would either float to the top or come dangerously close to getting tangled onto my fish.

This review seems incredibly negative, but believe me, I love the tank and it deserves the four stars--it's just the premise of the kit and the bundled accessories that aren't worth your time. I like it far better than any other similar plastic tanks, and betta kits are the smallest pieces of junk ever. With a little extra effort, you will have no problems keeping a smaller individual fish in this tank. Just please don't try to cram a goldfish into this thing.

Pros: good idea, smooth "stone" pieces, lightweight, buildable.

I purchased 2 sets to build a small platform for my 18month old eastern spiny softshell turtle. The "stones' are lightweight and smooth so they won't scratch your animal. The idea is great you can configure the stones for the space and the animal. It is compatible with the reptofilter and the prodcut can be used in wet or dry environments.

Cons: pegs stick out, float. Not enough holes in "stones" limits

The set comes with 4 "Stones" one large, 2 medium one small and have 1,2, or 3 holes depending on stone size which limits configuration. The pegs stick up above the stones even after snapping off the extra and they float. You have to buy lots of sets in order to get a large enough build to make it useful. It would be nice if the manufacturer offered sets with all one size "stones" i.e. 4 large stones.

User Suggestions: For dry environments manually cut off the pegs a little shorter than the top of the stone so they don't stick up. For wet environments ditch the pegs and use aquarium safe glue for a permanent set up.
