This product is great! My only complaint is that the box was open and kinda smashed when I got it. It was supposed to be new. 4 Stars for product appearance, 5 stars for product effectiveness, and 5 stars for arrival time! All in all, happy customer here. :)

I use this product every week to test and adjust the water for my fish because I have acidic water and my community tank needs 7.0-7.4 PH to be healthy (I like to keep the PH higher as this helps prevent my snails from suffering from their shells degrading). One thing to be noted; this test kit only tests up to 7.6....not a big problem for me because I don't really need it to test higher...but if someone wanted to use it for other water quality testing purposes be cautious.

I would recommend this to anyone keeping freshwater aquariums. This is very handy to have.

If you were going to test the water in a fish tank, this is probably a good product. However, I purchased this through a site dedicated to selling products for canning [preserving] food. Per the site, I required an acid content of a pH of 4.6 or below, to safely preserve food by canning. With that said, this kit tests from a range of 6 to 7.6; basically pointless for testing food products for a higher acid content.

I use these bulbs for leopard geckos, since they are nocturnal they dont seem to like the brightness of these lights. When these arrived in the mail I only installed one of them and had the black colored bulb in use already. But due to the low levels in heat from the black colored bulb, I went with these since they are 75w and not 50w like the black bulbs. I would have to say that these are NOT night time bulbs for the reason of the brightness of these lights.

One of these bulbs lights up a 14X12 room when a nighttime bulb should really only give enough light to be able to see the reptile in the cage.

These expensive bulbs last a couple of months. That's a big expense of bulbs. We are locked in to this type, because this is what the lampholder fits. But I wish there were a forever LED version.

Zoo Med Turtle Dock for 10 Gallon Tanks, Small

I bought this about a year ago so my stinkpot turtle could get out to dry his shell. Like others have said, it is not that aesthetically pleasing, but it did the job. After a few months, the lower suction cups stopped sucking to the glass, and it grew algae very easily. Even after scrubbing, the algae came back soon. Then my turtle chomped it upgross! I hope he doesn't get sick! This time I will pay more to get a higher quality product.

I resisted these things for years because I prefered to build natural platforms out of rocks, but that gets tricky if you want to raise the water level above 6 inches. What I love about this dock is that it gives my turt a nice big surface to climb on and bask, but he still has all that swimming room underneath. I just hope that he won't start chomping away at it, as some turtles have done. The suction cups work great and really hold the dock firmly in place. Great price too! I resisted buying it when the retail shops all had it for $20, but at under $10 it was worth a gamble.

I have had two sliders since they were babies and I was only able to use the zoo med turtle dock for about 2-3 months due to several issues. At first the dock was okay... it wasn't totally aesthetically pleasing but it did the trick. My turtles would use it often to bask without any problems. After about the first month or so the suction cups were not sticking very well to the point where they no longer stick to the bottom portion which is submersed in the water. As the turtles got bigger they would get stuck behind the bottom plastic bar, and would really have to struggle to free themselves...they never drown but this crossed my mind as a possible hazard. The dock also started to grow algae and when I tried to clean and scrub it off the paint scrubbed off with it. These are just minor problems considering once my turtles grew to be 3 inches in length they began to actually bite the dock to the point where they were able to get actual huge chunks out of it and consume it. I looked this up online and it is a very common problem with foam docks. It is very unhealthy for them to consume foam or plastic. Overall it is a cheap dock and you get what you pay for. I recommend spending the extra money upfront to get something nicer and safer(and not made of foam).

I bought one of these docks for my turtle a really long time ago and it lasted for 5+ years. Then it just seemed too slimy so i decided to throw it out and get my turtle a fresh one. As soon as I opened the box i could tell that the quality was so much cheaper than the original one I had. The raft itself started flaking off as soon as i touched it. At the same time it felt super greasy. I didnt really want to expose my turtle to anything that would flake off into the water so i tried rinsing it off and pretty much got no where. The plastic bars that attach to the suction cups seemed like the crappiest plastic I've ever seen or touched. The original one was much sturdier. The suction cups were separated in the packaging and required some assembly prior to use. As I was putting the suction cups onto the plastic bars I kept wondering how long this dock would last b/c the quality seemed so terrible. The suction cups were very difficult to attach and within a few seconds the plastic bar snapped into two pieces. So annoying. I can't believe this company would lower the quality of this item so much since 5 years ago. Too bad.

I gave this thing the benefit of the doubt after reading some of the reviews on here, like how the turtles will start chowing down on the dock. My turtles are extreme wimps. They won't even eat the tiny goldfishes that I had in the tank. This brings me to exactly how horrible this dock is. I don't know if they did something new or found a new way to make this thing, but the minute I took it out of the box, I felt this weird oil and it was extremely sandy, like the styrofoam was disintegrating in my hand. Maybe it was just extra parts of it. I can't tell. The dock was also very dark, almost black, with spots of green, I guess to look like algae or grass or something, but it wasn't pretty. It didn't look like the picture on the box at all! I thought I had received someone's used one until I did a little research. Anyways, back to oil. I proceeded to clean the dock, with a very mild dish washing detergent so it'll cut through the oil and hopefully wash it away. After, I soaked the dock in clean water for 2 days, TWO DAYS, changing water twice a day to make sure any traces of detergent would be gone. On the second day, there was still oil coming out of the dock, but it was very little. To the point where I had to look for it so again, gave it benefit of the doubt, put it into my tank. My turtles loved it. They immediately started playing on it, but the goldfishes that I had in the tank all died, within 30 minutes. They've been in the tank with my turtles for almost 2 weeks now!! They've literally became friends with my turtles!! I immediately pulled out my turtles. My turtles are okay, but the oil or whatever the dock was emitting CANNOT be good for any sea creatures. I don't recommend this product at all!

I have been having problems with my ammonia in my large tank. I have done half water changes for the last five days. Ammonia still very high. Fish and snails hanging out the top. Went to local fish shop and they told me to this filter. I put in my Filstar XP3 and I can easy say with in an hour my fish were starting to swim regularly.

NO DEAD FISH! That's always the first good thing when adding something new to an aquarium.

I have been having horrible problems with ammonia in my 55 gallon tank. I have tried multiple solutions with little to no success ranging from partial water changes to chemicals. The HBH Aqua Pure Ammonia filter pad has done an excellent job. I still have slight traces of ammonia, but ammonia at .25 to .5 ppm of ammonia is a lot better than 4.0+ ppm.

Just to fill you in, I have had this tank operating just fine for about 2 years. It was very well cycled. I do not use an RO system to filter the water, but I do filter the water to remove chloramines and other contaminants. The ammonia level in the filtered water is typically .5 ppm. Not great, but manageable. I typically do partial water changes of 10 to 15 gallons just to get rid of excess waste. But, recently and for some unknown reason, the ammonia started to spike. Same fish, so nothing has changed. I tested the water and it's the same. So, I don't have an explanation for the spike in ammonia.

Other ammonia removers with partial water changes just were not doing the trick. This has been by far the best and easiest solution.

Best of all the fish are healthy, eat well, and don't appear to have any problems.

At some point I will probably invest in a good RO system to help with the elimination of ammonia completely.

Aruliden Fishscape Fish Bowl

LOVE the beauty of this bowl. Absolutely stunning, and we get non-stop compliments. Problem is that one of "mountains" developed a crack after 6 months and the bowl can't be used anymore. We gave this bowl TLC and the crack came on suddenly, seemingly without cause. The manufacturer won't stand behind their product and told us they won't do anything for us since we've had it for "so long". For this price, I expect something that would last longer than your average inexpensive fish bowl. This is the best looking fish bowl I've ever seen, but definitely not worth the price.

I bought this bowl thinking it would be an art piece and unique fish bowl. Unfortunately, every fish I put in it died within two days, including two bettas and one goldfish. I quickly removed the second goldfish and put him in another fishbowl I had laying around. It's been six months and he is doing well. So I have to assume it was the bowl. I did make a terrarium out of it and the plants (succulents) have survived, but I'm wondering if there was something in the annealing process that does not make it suitable for fish. Other than that, it's a cool piece.

But it provides no nooks or connecting points (with gasket at bottom to prevent leakage) for airpump, filter, light, etc. So best to use with spherical algae and maybe some small shrimp. Oxygen stones maybe required from time to time. Wiping algae off the inner structure can be a chore. But still quite neat. Sorry, I don't own this.

biOrb No Algae Service Kit

I live in a "glass house" which means my biOrb gets lots of sunlight and, therefore, lots of algae! I used this in conjunction with cleaning the entire Orb out. I didn't realize it's not for "continuous use" though. I have had the same success with completely cleaning the tank and simply replacing the regular-type cartridge. The Orb is expensive enough to maintain -why add to the cost?

I didn't realize it wasn't a long term filter when I bought it, but decided to keep it in case I have an algae bloom in the tank because cleaning the bio media gravel using standard algae killer will be more damaging than using this temporary filter. It was easier to keep than return it.

The product seems to decrease the pH of the water when i tested in a 50ml cup with API testing kits by a SINGLE drop! The pH drop from 8.2 to 7.6 in 5 minutes.... However it doesnt decrease the pH level as much when i used it in my 10G and 5G tank.

I found this product to work very well. I was surprised at how effectively a few drops worked. It was difficult at first to get the lid off the bottle, but once it was off the product was fine. You have to be careful not to squirt in too many drops in following the directions.

it says to dose 2 drops per gallon in order to lower the pH but my water (dGH ~ 12; dKH ~ 6) needs 8 drops per gallon. I blew through this little 1.25 onces in just four water changes. I do recommend this product but maybe you will need a bigger bottle if you have hard water like me.

Lee's 2-Inch Wooden Air Diffuser, 2-Pack

This shipper (accidentally?) included a cheap plastic bag that the chinese manufacturer must have originally put these in. It is all Chinese except for saying "AquaValue" at the top and there is a diagram of how to use these in an aquarium that is labelled in chinese. The diffuers are now sealed in a nice blister pack in all-english. Why they included the weird all-chinese bag with this is beyond me.

Anyway, they work wonderfully. I'm using them to create small bubbles to diffuse CO2 in a planted tank. They make much finer bubbles than my air stones that I was using previously and my CO2 concentration has improved. I can't comment on how well these would work in a protein skimmer. I always used an injection-powered Aqua-C skimmer so I wouldn't have to mess with replacement parts like this all the time. The main downside to these is that wood floats duh. I hadn't really considered this and these don't come with any suction cups to hold them down, so unless you have suction cups for your air hoses already, you're going to have to buy them or hook the hose under an ornament or rock. I realize that this is the case with all bubblers since they're filled with air, but these are REALLY buoyant.

Theses air diffusers supply abundant micro air bubbles that create the foam inside my protein skimmer. Long lasting, however they need to be kept on continuously, if shut off for awhile then the bubbles will be large but will become micro again after running enough hours.

Como Purple 4" Diameter Soft Silicone Coral Ornament for Aquarium Fish Tank

I use salt in my water. I guess you can call it a brackish tank, but my fish are always healthy and last for years!

After 1 week all the silicone coral I purchased started looking real bad with a milky coating. After removal from the tank I can see that they are actually rotting away. Don't buy these if you use salt!!

I read a couple of the negative reviews, but really liked the look of these ornaments, so I went ahead and ordered four of them in different sizes and colors for my new tank. Unfortunately, the other reviewers proved correct. Just about a month after adding them, the color started to lose vibrancy and all 4 began to appear covered in a film of gunk. My water was also becoming cloudy for no reason I could figure out (I rinse my filter pads bi-weekly and use carbon, and filter my 55 gallon tank with a sump and pump that does 750 gph and is designed for a larger tank, so filtration wasn't the problem with water quality). I removed all four, and noticed that when I tried to wash them, they had a really strong, nasty plasticy odor and I suspect they have been off-gassing into the water for some time. They also felt squishy like they had started to actually physically deteriorate. After pulling them, I put in a new charcoal filter pad and did a partial water change (only 5 gal) and added some Stresscoat for good measure. After just a few hours, the water which had been cloudy for days started to clear. Mystery solved. I'm just glad I pulled these before they resulted in permanant damage/fish loss. Avoid these if you want to keep healthy fish!

We bought at least a dozen of these over a few months time. We have a 55 gallon cichlid tank that we wanted a reef theme for. At first these were a great addition however they degraded so quickly. Once they get a little algae on them they will stain and god help you if you try to scrub them off. After two months in the tank they began to have a weird chemical smell, began to fade, and got sticky. This happened with all of them. I've owned the 55 for less than two months when the motor failed. I tried calling Rena for help, all you get is an answering machine. They called me back two days later and told me that I can box up the filter and send it back for warranty. I said "hold on, this is my filter, I can't run w/o for a week or more" I asked if I could buy a replacement motor or if they could do an advanced replacement, I'd happily have paid for that. At that point the guy got rude and told me they "they weren't going to just ship out an expensive piece of equipment to me and if I considered my filter to be so important that I should own a backup."

I wish I could recommend this product, but having it fail in under two months and then being told I should have bought two is just unacceptable. I wish I would have read the other reviews first...

Bought the Smartfilter 55, but has same motor as this product 7 months ago. Recently started sounding / performing horribly. Emailed customer service to which the only answer was mail in unit at my shipping cost both direction and they'd 'fix' unit. When I asked for a unit to be sent to me upfront since this was in a working aquarium got the runaround. Called and got same result with the 'you should always have a backup pump'..... no I should have bought a product that works and is reliable. Will never buy another RENA project again.

what a major difference between this filter and any other fish tank filter I have ever used ... I read all the other reviews every 1 posted on this and figured i would take a chance and im glad i did ....the only bad thing i can say is the plastic flippers that level the filter on the back bottom are a joke like other ppl said in there reviews no big deal rip up a small peace of cardboard problem solved ... the quietest filter iv ever used and i do fish tanks for a living ... the box filter setup is very smart and very well thought out the price of the filters are up there but u can get replacements at petsmart ...it moves a lot of water and because the spillway is 12 inch wide it puts a lot of o2 in the water it took about 4 days for the filter to set up and the milk to go away

..if this filter holds up I will get 10 to 15 more and suggest them to my clients ..if it takes a dump on me I will post that in my review .... take it from a pro this filter is far better then anything out there

has became noise and very hard to restart i would not buy another 1 until Rena updates this and fixes whats wrong with it ...its a real shame because its a sound idea works good the flow could be better im sure it would cost them all of 15 cents to fix the problems with this and put on the package new and improved next time i need new filters i will be putting the hole thing in the trash

This is one of the flimsiest, worst designed pieces of junk I have ever had the misfortune to purchase. I've been keeping fish for over 41 years, have bought a few filters in my time, & this is god-awful. The leveling pegs on the filter do not lock into place, & I found this out when HALF OF MY 55GL TANK EMPTIED OUT ONTO MY FLOOR, as the filter tilted forward overnight. The motor/impeller housing is supposed to come out easily for cleaning; it does, but falls apart & does not go back together easily. It also is made with very cheap plastic, & feels like it would break if I squeezed it w/ my hand. Very poor design, which shocks me, as Rena usually makes a great product. Rena dropped the ball on this one, I would recommend anyone thinking of purchasing this crap to steer clear.

Okay, I just got this stuff and can't yet speak on it's plant growing merits, but I can tell you this stuff is D-I-R-T-Y.

Best cleaned the same way you do sand.

1: Set bag upright on the ground.

2: Cut off the 2 top corners, just big enough for a hose on one side and drainage on the other.

3: Put your hose in one side, I highly recommend doing this outside... in the grass.

4: Try to bunch some of the bag around your hose and a use a cable tie or something to hold that end shut.

5: Run your water. Make sure your hose reaches the bottom of the bag and that the bag will stay upright.

6: Go fix yourself a sandwich, check in 15min, run water until it comes out the top of the other side clear, this may take some time.

And done.

There is one VERY IMPORTANT bit of advice I must impart to everyone reading this: There is one big drawback to this product, and that is you MUST WASH IT. Do NOT skip this step! This stuff has a ton of dirt and sediment caked on it that will clog up and ruin your filters and dirty your water beyond visibility if you don't. This is a real big pain in the rear because you have to use a LOT of water and many rinsings to flush it all out and get it so your water doesn't look like red tea. Be patient! It's very much worth it for the incredible aquascape you will get.

Looks like a nice dark brown in the picture. Even a softer brown would have been ok, but in person looks really light and multi color. Doesn't look natural. Works great, but being that I wanted to recreate a really natural looking river bed, I'm not impressed. Does the job though.

This substrate is some of the best you can buy if you want to achieve excellent growth with your aquatic plants. Remember, its a clay product so it can break down however.

I would highly suggest rinsing this product VERY well before placing it in the aquarium. It came very, very dirty. Took about 15 mins to rinse each bag well enough.

The gravel is beautiful, but you really have to wash it about 10 times to get the silt off it.

But, you ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT USE THIS SUBSTRATE WITH AXOLOTLS (MEXICAN WALKING FISH). The little stones are ~5mm wide far too big for axolotls. I had to buy sand to put on top of the Seachem Flourite so my axolotls don't eat the little stones.

Cobalt Aquatics Neo-Therm 75-Watt with Plastic LED

This is my second Cobalt Aquatics' heater. I purchased a 50 watt version over the past six months. This one's a

75 watter. I have also noticed that Cobalt has recently expanded this line of heaters to include 150 and 200 watt versions.

Thus far my experiences with the 50 watt version have been

positive. It's in a Mr. Aqua 12 gallon long which is at about the maximum size for this heater. As a result, the heater can be working harder than it should during the winter months.

This is especially true since I like the cooler temperatures during the fall and winter months, and as such, keep my den windows partially open most of the time.

However, even during the coldest months of the year, water always remains above 70 degrees.

The Cobalt is aesthetically pleasing, well constructed, and very easy to use. It's a bit on the expensive side though.

However, the prices have come down about 15% or so since these heaters were first introduced.

If they turn out be durable heaters that stand the test of time, the Cobalt Neo Therm series will be well worth the investment. Especially when one considers how difficult it is to find a company without the quality control issues that most aquarium heater manufacturers experience.

Of all of the equipment one must purchase in this great hobby, heaters are the most problematic. For instance, you can purchase two identical heaters and one may prove to be reliable for years, while the other fails right out of the box.

Thus far, I recommend the Cobalt Neo Therm line. However, try to find them at a discount. Amazon.com usually has them discounted. Although I'm not sure if you can find the Neo Therm 150 and 200 on Amazon yet.

Small enough to put in my sump for my 35 gallon Seahorse tank. Very accurate. I must keep my tank between 72-74 degrees and it is accurate to 2 degrees.

110V 200W Watt Anti-Explosion Submersible Aquarium Fish Tank Water Heater

I didn't get this on Amazon but that other site. Been using submersible heaters over 20 years. It is a great looking item. Looks like a top quality item. That's where the good news ends. The first one of these I got exploded in the tank after about 3 minutes. Glad I was near by to run and unplug it as it sissled. Had to clean glass from the tank. Seller sent free replacement. The replacement will not come on at any temperature or any setting. At least it didn't blow up. Seller refunded in full and said they would check their stock..Hope they do cuz I'm just glad no fish or people were injured by this.

I am on a budget, and did alot of price comparisons on many tank heaters. I was very surprised to find this size

unit at that price. I thought it was such a deal, that I bought two units. I have no regrets.
