I was worried about the little fish dodging the moving hands at first, but of COURSE, the fish is in front of the sealed clock. It is kind of magnified and really arty. You can add a few floating Elodea to add extra oxygen without turning the whole thing into a fish tank. It comes with a cool curved net. It will take some maintenance, but all fish tanks do. Please don't buy this unless you are willing to take care of the fish! My kids love it! I love it. And.... its easy to remember when to feed the fish when he stares at you as you check the time!
the product works fine. make sure the background is flat. mine wasnt, so i had to use clear tape for the edges. works great but, so does a cheaper bottle of mineral oil...

You could use this goop or some sort of vaseline based solution for your aquarium background. It was a messy, messy job as I spread the solution evenly over the background. I must not have done that great of a job because my background started bubbling and I eventually took it off. Maybe it's a user error, not the product. I wouldn't buy this stuff again because it's super messy and now I'm stuck with trying to wipe if off the back of my aquarium, yuk.

When you first plug this bulb in and turn on the fixture, it will make the colors in your tank "pop," from fish to corals. Sadly, that doesn't last long, and within a couple of months it's not much better than any standard fluorescent bulb. (I really noticed the difference when I replaced one of the two bulbs on my fixture, and saw the radical difference in light intensity and hue between the new and old.)

I had the lower-power version of this sterilizer ("Advantage 2000"; a 7w unit) for several years before the bulb finally died. My local aquarium store mistakenly sold me the higher power Advantage 2000+ 15w bulb. A call to Aqua indicated that I could not reliably run the 15w bulb from the 7w transformer (I supposed as much), so I ordered the 15w transformer to match the new bulb and it works just great. I have a 150 gal aquarium and although the 7w bulb did keep the algae at bay, I figured the 15watter should do a little better; it certainly took me from opaque green to crystal clear water in about a week.

This product seems to be built well and lives up to marketed expectations. Weigh this filter when its new and replace when it gets 20% heavier. I believe these are some of the best filters in the industry.
This is a rather large ornament in height and width. It is well made and very pretty in color. It is very dense, not like some ornaments that have a few strands of vine. Tried it in my 5 gallon but it overwhelmed it. Even in my 10 gallon, it really overwhelmed. So, I could see it working nicely and looking good in a larger aquarium where it has space to blend in. Although I am not currently using it, I would recommend it for a larger aquarium.
These things are pretty cheap, so it's not shocking that the first time I tried to pull one out of the tube that it broke/shattered. Ended up cutting the tube and putting in a new one. Work well, but can break apart due to the tubing tightness.

I love these bags. I use them for carbon and crushed coral with no issues at all. What I like most are the drawstrings... they're not flimsy pieces of thread like some other bags I've used.
I currently own a 55 gallon tank with a pleco and an oscar, and this filter has kept my tank crystal clear since i got it. If you know oscars then you know how messy they can be. I highly recommend this filter to anyone with a 55 gallon tank. My roommate has a 150 gallon with 7 red devils and two plecos, and has the Fluval 304 (older model to this 305), and even his tank is clear, its not perfect but for being as clear as it is with only a filter made for a 70 gallon tank, i can honestly say that Fluval filters are GREAT products.

First there are a few things to consider I have a 40gal tropical tank which is more than a little over capacity (fish-wise). I have had other filters in the past on other 29-55 gal tanks. Given this information this is one of the best filters I have had the pleasure of owning. This unit will keep the water very clear if you are willing to load the media in it correctly and do just a bit of maintenance. I also recommend using the "polisher" pads about 3-4 times a year as it does a fine job of Tidying Up. For those that have complained about priming when reconnecting Fill the filter with water at about the same temp as your tank. Then after connecting the unit and starting it up, gently rock the filter from front to back to release any trapped air. Also I would recommend NEVER changing the Biomass in the final stage Unless you have a major disaster in the tank. Also keep a spare impeller and outer seal on hand (just in case) while you may never need them, it would be better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. My personal mix of media is Carbon(very thoroughly rinsed) in the 1st stage, Clearmax in the second stage (followed on top by a polishing pad *Temporary*) then a mix of Eheim Substrat Pro and Fluval BIOMAX. Personally I would recommend against changing all of the Clearmax at one time, I change one side then the other in rotation. Similarly I would recommend against changing both front and back sponges at the same time. I replace the front and lightly clean the rear and rotate them (rear to front) quarterly as more than this is not needed and reduces beneficial bacteriological filtration. I have had this filter for almost a year and I have yet to find any fault with it. It holds lots of filter media (charcoal, ammo-carb, etc.) which gives it the ability I had hoped for long intervals between maintenance. I currently have this connected to a 29 gal. tetra tank (the fish, not the brand) and while I know that this filter is over-sized, it provides great filtration and the high rate of water flow (I have it wide open) seems to please my riverine tetras and they will frequently play in the current (a habit that seems to be related to feeding they grab food as it flows by). If I choose, I can use this for a larger tank in the future. The built-in primer pump is a great feature and makes it very easy to get a flow started. You will only need to use it once, unless you allow air into the intake line.
