These filters work great. The activated charcoal is really effective at removing odors and chemical residue, e.g., tetracycline after a treatment. And assorted particles are nixed in a couple hours in my Marineland Mini. The fish look active and happy so regular filter and water changes really does foster aquarium health.The Amazon product image depicts a larger Marineland filter model, but I received the correct size (A).
Like most reviewers here, I have been paying huge markups for these same filters at my local pet store. The same 6-pack sells for $24.99 plus tax in Honolulu. I realize a storefront operation needs a higher markup to cover overhead, and I don't mind paying a little extra, but an extra $15 over the Amazon price is excessive. So now I can afford to really change filters every few weeks or so.

Ultralife Reef ProduCounts AULXTERM X-Terminator Mantis Shrimp Trap
This could be a nice trap if they had a functional QA system to inspect the product before it ships to the customer. OK, so I receive my first Mantis trap and the trap door spring is broken into pieces with no damage to the box, which means it left the factory that way. I returnd it and received my replacement trap by mail and noticed I cannot set the trap because the trap door was not trimmed properly and sticks open. I did not want to send another one back and have to wait again so I took a razor blade and trimmed the excess junk plastic off of the trap door and finnally got it to work. I placed it into the tank and noticed in just a few days that the trap door spring was already starting to rust. I had a few different pests to capture so, I had to leave it in the tank for 2 weeks. The only good news is it did catch crabs, fish, snails etc. By the end of the 2 weeks the spring was rusted very badly. They should have made the spring out of corosion resistant steel since it is desighed for a salt water tank instead of using very low quality cheap junk metal. Keep in mind it is also possible to contaminate your water with the rusted metal biproducts and chemicals leached into your tank from the quickly disintegrating metal spring. This could be especially toxic to a small nano reef tank. I took the trap out of the tank and thoroughly rinsed off the salt water and immediatly dried it off to try and mimumize corosion. I stored it for 2 months and when I took it out of the box to reuse it the junk metal spring had rusted so badly it had crumbled into pieces, rendering the trap useless! If you purchase this trap realize it is so poorly manufactured that it will only last you one use and into the trash it will go. Hopefully it will catch the pest before it falls apart and poisions you reef tank. I would not recommend this waste of money to anyone! The nice features of this trap is that it is tinted which makes the little guy not so shy about going in, but you can still see into it to know if he is there or your bait s still in there. The pressure release is adjustable and simple to operate. The door snaps shut once he is inside and locks the little guy in. It also holds water so it doesn't drain when you pull it out. Unlike other reviewers, my trap came in without issues, even though it was just put in a padded envelope and tossed in the mail. So, I am THRILLED with this trap!
The bad news.... I'm still hearing snapping. :( Glad the trap is re-useable.

Had gotten some new live rock for my reef tank and guess what? Yep a mantis shrimp came along eating my critters, so I tried this and by golly it worked! I took a little piece of fish and put the trap in the tank and the varmint was in there. Just make sure you rinse the trap several time to get the salt of and it won't corrode. This light is just like the ones at PetSmart, but smaller. I have a 30 gallon long tank and I bought 2 of them. I really like the night light and the fact that they don't get hot.
I had the tank full of java fern, java moss, morimo ball, rotalal, some small grass species, and then some anubias.
Nothing got algae on it and we'd leave it on for over 10+ Hours at times if we forgot to turn it off. It also doesn't get hot to the touch, and was very cheap. I love this thing, every week on my low tech 5g a new anubias leaf would pop up. I highly HIGHLY Recommend using this on tanks 5g and below its amazing. I was very skeptical but after using it was great!!Considering the power requirement of only THREE watts I thought I'd give these units a try on my aquarium. I placed one on a 20 gallon high and it seemed a little dim so I added a second one and it looked very nice! The only question at this point is the longevity of the unit itself. I have heard that many of these less expernsive fixtures are prone to short life spans. I have had two running nine hours a day on the aquarium I mentioned for over a month with no issues. So far, so good and I'm very happy with the results. The only isssue worth mentioning at this point is they are designed to mount on an aquarium (the newer 'nano' style tank) without the plastic edges, that is directly to the glass. I worked around this by using a section of "luan" plywood which I clamped below the tank andf have it jutting about two inches above. This works very well. The cost savings in electricity alone will be well worth the purchase price if the durability is adequate. BTW, four stars is due to the longevity issue.This is not a big light but it works great for my 6 Gal tank. I also like that the light is enegy efficient and does not get hot. I have searced and even though the price of shipping is nearly half the price of the product it is still a very good deal. I have only had this for about a month so I do not know how long it will last but so far it has done a very good job.This light flickers one and off, and when it does stay on it switch randomly from whites to blue. Also the clamp won't fir over a standard rim!!!

Like others, I had issues finding ammonia locally that didn't contain 'surfacants'. I followed the directions on the bottle and was able to achieve the required concentration with no issues. I initially tested the water with the API test kit and subsequently monitored the cycling with cheap strips. All in all, a fishless cycle using this product was pretty painless.

I applied this to my fish tank and it seems to be working as intended. I tested the water parameters and the instructions on the bottle seem to be on par; 1 drop for every gallon. The only complaint I have is how it was packaged and shipped. The bottle, itself, is inside a sealed plastic bag. Upon opening the package I found the bottle leaked into the bag. This is a wonderful product and I love all of DrTim's products but the bottle that it comes in needs to be changed. The bottle arrives in a plastic bag inside of the shipping packet, when I pulled out the plastic bag almost half of the ammonia had spilled out into the bag. I was able to cycle my 30 gallon fish tank but I used almost the whole bottle in the process. Its really diluted, It would be cheaper to buy ammonia from a store near you if you can find any. I need to order a 2nd bottle for my second tank ugh

I was excited to receive this item and setting it up in my 55 gallon tank. Assembled the unit, got it placed perfectly, plugged in the light pretty, plugged in the pump nice bubbling. I took a step back and was watching my tank when the bubbling STOPPED. Unplugged and took it out to look at it put it back in tank and still no bubbling. Needless to say I sure don't want something that is that unreliable to quit after 30 seconds of use. Sending back for refund. No Thanks on this item! Ok so I was hesitant to buy since many other users have said it stops working. i thought maybe I would try and see. This is a crappy product. The manufacturer did not design this well. The issue is that the fan shaft has a magnet connected to it. This magnet separates very fast and then it does not spin and create bubbles. It worked for a few minutes. The manufacturer wants you to return it or buy a new fan piece, but why should we have to go through all of that? Just make a good product. This has no reflection on the seller who did a great job. The product is bad and the other reviewers are pretty accurate. I would not recommend. I have tried some non toxic glue to see if I can get the magnet to stay attached. I will see and hope this works otherwise I will purchase from a different company. The led light is cool and works with no issue.

I have been using this test kit for a while now and have never had and difficulty with it, other than me droping the glass vials and breaking them on the floor. It's pretty straight forward and easy to use. Good thing there are 2 vials!
1. Put one drop in vial of water
2. Put cap on vial
3. Shake or flip vial to mix drop with water
4. Did color of water change from Blue to Yellow (KH) or Orange to Green (GH)
5. No, remove cap, and repeat steps 1-4.
6. Yes. How many drops did it take, compare with chart supplied in instructions.

It's a beautiful tank and Floyd, my betta, is very happy. However, there are several things that could have made it a beautiful and excellent tank rather than just beautiful but only average as far as function goes. Firstly, the feeding hole is tiny and hard to use with just one betta. If the tank were divided I think that the feeding hole would be useless. I found it easier to just lift the top to feed....kind of annoying. Secondly, if you do decide to use the enclosed divider, besides the useless feeding hole, you would need to heat (and filter if desired) each side separately as the divider is very solid. Thirdly, the white leds are much dimmer than in my other nano tanks. I do like the punch out on the lid so that my filter and heater cords fit even with the top closed. The flat back is also very useful. So, even though I like the tank I can't give it better than a 3 star rating.

The tanks is nice but the feeding hole could be bigger. The flakes get stuck and won't fall through so you have to lift the cover. I bought this for my 9 yr old son but won't let him feed the fish for fear that when he removes the lighted cover he might accidently drop it onto the water and electrocute himself. The tank size is nice and it has a large viewing area. It doesn't take up much counter space at all and the lighting is very vibrant. The filter is very loud though. Under gravel filter? More like a black slightly raised floor with a pump blowing air through an air stone (though my air stone was missing). It would never work for anything other than a betta. That being said, my betta is swimming around his big new space quite happily. The front warps the view of the fish a little bit, but I don't mind it. The blue LED light is a nice addition and really brings out the color in my guy. I've had it a week and so far, so good, though I can't imagine ever finding a replacement when the light fails. But for a cheap tank with a funky touch, it's fine.

This java came in a little over grown to the point that it was growing on its own leaves. But! This was a HUGE and very healthy mat! I had so much left over I went ahead and set up another aquarium! The root was healthy nice and green! They come on a coco fiber mat that can be a little hard to tweese out but is probably best left on and then tethered to whatever you want it to grow on. Again, awesome mat, looks just like the picture only twice as big! Keep in mind too order in the cooler months to save the plant some black spots. Very very well packaged and came in great condition. Would and probably will order again :)

These seem like they would have been amazing specimens, but they did not travel well from the West coast. When I received them, (in MA) they were covered in black spots apparently from heat damage sustained in transit. I will say that the seller was very, very cooperative & immediately issued me a full return. If you live closer to CA or are planning to order these in any other season except winter or summer, I would say go for it.-Ben
