biUbe Aquarium with LED Light, Black, 9 Gallons

I first read about this thing in the NY Times and the article was generally glowing. Of course they only interviewed the owner of the company for the story. The thing that sold me in the article was that this was a super sleek design. The picture on the cover of the box certainly makes one think this as well. With just a little more effort this could have been an artful design but the company skimped and it's really just a plain aquarium with some accessories in the box. First as pictured here the fish would die within a few hours. You need a (not included) heater in order to keep the fish in this picture. The heater is a big ugly unit that attaches via suction cups to the back of the aquarium. The round shape only makes things worse it tends to magnify the heater when looking at the thing from the front. They skimped a better design would have been a built-in sleak heater along the bottom of the unit. With the addition of the heater there are now 3 power cables running behind the aquarium. These seem to be artfully Photoshoped out in the picture. 3 power cables does not equal elegant design. In an all in one unit like this why not have a single power cable into the head unit that would have been sleak. The pump on this thing is loud, as we found out there are much quiter pumps than the one that ships in the box. Loud pump does not equal elegant design. Along with the three power cables dangling off the back, an air cable also needs to dangle out there. Again you don't see this in the picture a much better design would have been to build the airpump and air cable into the top peice of this unit.

I ended up returning it. I next went to the most reputable aquarium store in the area and had them build up an aquarium with the same specs as this one. It ended up being quiter, cheaper and in the end sleaker. I think that it is possible to make a more artfully designed aquarium, but the biUbe doesn't come close.

Oh and the NYTimes gets 1 star for their article as well.

I have always liked low maintenance aquariums having had an Eclipse 6 on my desk at work. I like the Biube so much I'm planning on purchasing the Larger 16 gallon Biorb for another room.

The set up was quick and easy (By the way, the light kit or other available accessories plug into the small airpump that came with it as it is also a transformer (only a problem when the airpump eventally dies like they all seem to do in time). Also the airpump is a little loud but really functions well. And the set-up saves a lot of cord clutter.

The only thing I've not been as thrilled with is the plastic-esque stand is not as nice as it appears in pictures and pretty expensive for what it is. In fact its almost too short for my liking and the design of 2 flat boards and a metal tube as the support is well... just plain cheesy. Also it would be nice to have some storage areas in the stand as there is no shelf or compartment or anything to hide the airpump or store extra filters, supplies and fish food. The tank is very cool, but I'm having a carpenter build a nicer looking stand to showcase my fish.

I've only had it set up for a week but I've already gotten tons of compliments on it and my fish are still swimming! My recommendation is buy the tank but skip the stand. The tank is really a conversation piece with it's center column of bubbles!

I am new to this whole fish thing and struggled my first three weeks with high ammonia levels. No fish died but I felt at first I had to really watch it... almost to the point of obsession. The people at the fish store told me I could put 5 or more fish in the 9 gallon tank... that was my first mistake. I only put three large oranda's in and I still think this tank is over crowded. Also, it is hard to find the accessories to the biUbe tank. The stand is too unstable... I ended up putting it on a table. BUT, I feel the filtration system and the sleek, tall design are lovely.

My advice if you want this tank, is to start very slow and take several days to allow the tank to cultivate the beneficial environment. Wait to put in the fish in and DON'T OVER CROWD THIS TANK...

I have been keeping fish on and off for several years now and I have to say I love this tank. I knew it was 9 gallons but for some reason I was surprised by the size of it when I took it out. The filtration system is really great and I am happy the instructions talk about SLOWLY putting fish into the tank. When I first kept fish I wasnt aware of the nitrate rise when you first introduce them to the tank..so its nice to see they bring this to light. Overall I really enjoy this tank. I do not have the stand for it, mine is just on my table. I have small-ish fish in mine, tetras and danios, so I can fit a good shoal of them with my plants.

The drawbacks are that like others have said, the pump it comes with is noisy, but that is an easy fix. And if you set it up properly, there is a wait time to get all the fish you want..which is always the funnest part! But its less of a drawback because it is the proper way to stock a tank anyway. The filtration change packets are expensive but convienient. But a remedy to the expense is just buying them bulk on ebay.

I definitly reccomend this tank to others. My sister in law has the BiOrbe and she loves that as well.

I am a very lazy pet owner and hate maintaining fish tanks which is what made me consider this one. It was advertised as a "low maintenance" tank on another site. I basically just loved the look of the tanks. I purchased 2 of them. They are much bigger then I expected but that is a good thing. It was very easy to set up and so far have not really required any maintenance. I bought my own round tables from a local store versus getting the Biube/orb stands as I read reviews that they are not worth it. My tanks are beautiful and have added a very cool element to my living room. I have huge TV, but the tanks have turned into the focal point when I have company. The only downfall is the picture is a little misleading. It just shows this beautiful tank and side steps the fact that there are cords involved. There are the cords for the tank itself and then for the most part, you will need a heater which is never displayed in pictures and a thermometer. I have had a hard time hiding all the cords, but other then that, I am very please with my tanks.

Finnex Digital Temperature Control Glass Heater, 300-Watt

I got this heater around Jan. 20th 2012 and put it in a 46g bow front tank. The tank sits within 7ft of the house thermostat and I like to keep our house temp about 66-68 degrees in the winter and 72 to 74 degrees in the summer, I live in Virginia and I like it cold. The 300 watt is probably over-kill but I intended to move my fish to a 75g, so I never even put substrate in or much in the way of decorations. There is also an airstone in front of the heater so it gets completely un-impeded water flow. The water level sits about 3-4 inches above the fully submersed heater.

The cord is round and flexible un-like a lot of submersible cords but it's only 5-6ft long. Since my plug is directly behind the tank, this is just perfect and still leaves a nice safety loop hang for me. The heater itself is about 15 or 16 inches long (I put a ruler on the outside of the tank an made an estimate) and the bottom is covered with a rubber cage, which again was fortunate since I had no gravel and the suction cups eventually lost their hold... or I may not have bothered w/ them too much b/c I just put the heater in a vertical position to begin with. Knowing how I am, I probably read EVERY single word on the directions...twice, and followed instructions precisely on how to set it up. When I first set it up during our unusually warm winter, I would notice the LCD temp. reading drop to 75 and shortly after I would see the orange light come on telling me it was heating, and back to my set temp. of 76 it would go, in other words, it worked perfectly! It's mid Sept. now, my poor fish are still living in the 46g b/c I have not had the time to build the rock wall for my other tank yet, but honestly, I don't think I have seen the temp. reading change from 76 degrees since this spring. I've double checked the temp. with a reliable digital thermometer throughout the year and they both read 76 degrees. Really the only con so far has been the suction cups, including the one on the probe, certainly not a deal breaker. Hopefully it will continue to do well this winter and maybe I'll be able to move it to the 75g and report back. I have 3 other tanks that could use a new heater since all of them heat the the water to 80 or so degrees even though the dial is as low as it can go, 3 different brands too.

UPDATE: Feb. 2013, the heater is no longer heating, just a giant thermometer now. I've never had a heater stop heating, usually they start over heating and cook the fish so even though it no longer works, at least it didn't kill my fish. The visible thermometer let me know the water was too cold & something wasn't right. I've bought some pretty cheap heaters in the past but they all lasted longer than a year. It seemed like a really well built heater but just didn't last unfortunately. I got a Fluval E around the same time for a different tank and that's been doing great so far so may try that one again.

I actually liked the overall design of this heater and the fact that it had the LED display on the unit itself. So, I went ahead and purchased it. It took less than 3 weeks for it to fail miserably. It switched on to heat mode and never shut off! Tried unplugging it, dialing down the temperature, and even letting it sit for a while, all to no avail. I have a pretty hefty investment in my tank and I got lucky in that I was able to catch the problem before it killed all of my fish. Don't want a replacement for it. Not interested in trading junk for junk. Pulled it out and bought a Fluval. Will try to get my money back. If you are reading this, think hard and long before wasting your money and jeopardizing your investment on this "product". Lesson learned here... READ THE REVIEWS before you invest your hard earned money!

I initially loved this heater because of the LEDs & being able to know the temp from across the room, so much that I bought 3 over a 2 month period. Now I'm severely regretting it because the LED readout is going out on the oldest one. It is set for 84 degrees (discus tank) and reads as if it was set for 6u.

I will not buy another Finnex product & refuse to pay the shipping for a replacement that may start going out in 3 months too. I just bought 3 Eheim Jager heaters to replace them & will buy a separate LED thermometer to use in unison with the "classic" glass thermometer I have in each tank.

I just bought this heater and no matter what we try, it resets to 83. I emailed the company and they were not helpful at all. This is a poor product with poor customer service.

Heater looks great, nice digital display. Heated my 48 degree water yo 75 in one day. Next day it was 81 and the display was out. Thinking it might have to reset I unplugged it and tried again the next day. The display did not come on when I hit the thermostat button. Instead there were sparks and arcs inside the glass tube and then it exploded. The glass cracked and my house filled with acrid smoke and ozone. Could be just a fluke and I would have tried another one but that wasn't an option, credit my card only.

My turtles have grown since I purchased their original turtle dock. They were getting so large that they sunk the old turtle dock (small), so I knew I needed a larger one. The product is just what my turtles needed so that they can come out of the water to bask. The only odd thing is that when it arrived (in its original packaging) it was kind of oily and sandy feeling, but I just washed it off.

I have been searching for a basking rock to fit my 40 gallon breeder and this one fits perfectly, and also it a prefect fit for my turtle. The basking rock fits nicely and is the exact width of the tank.

1st I must say. Some if not most of zoomeds items like this basking dock is made with a paint-like substance that peels off into my clean turtle tank...I'm unsure how safe it it or if its lead ..if so then lawsuits can follow if someone's pet dies due to swallowing this...I don't know but I'm tired of scooping up the partials that comes from this item. Maybe its foam dunked in paint but ZooMed need to create something more safer than this coating. And it was gritty coming out of the box so I rinsed it off and it still has particles that float into my clean water.

If this didn't happen it would b great...

My turtle likes to climb on it but he has to get used to it after using another bank made differently.

May not be pretty as my 4 year old put it, but it looks like the picture and works as stated. I do have a very small turtle though I added weights to my dock and it will hold 1 lb 5 oz up out of the water before sinking under.

Had the grainy sand stuff but rinsed it off before putting in the tank (who would not wash something new before exposing there animals to it any way?). No scrubbing as it is foam afterall. I like it, my kid's turtle likes it, and it is as advertised so thumbs up.

I also think it is great ZooMed provides products I can afford that work. I also use their turtle filter.

The design requires improvement due to the suction cups not staying put. It would have been better if it was designed to hook over the edge of the tank for stability. I am going to have to "rig" this dock in order for it to work, because the turtles can't enjoy it when it's floating freely around the tank. Not impressed at all.

I heard that ammo-carb is handy to put in the litter drawer of your litter robot, and so thought I'd give it a shot. I sprinkled a little bit (maybe a tablespoon or so) into the drawer a week ago. Since then, no odor at all. It works amazingly well at absorbing the odor.

I'm an experienced hobbyist whom used to have a 120 gallon reef tank, but had to purchase a small 29gallon due to moving into a downtown condo. This is a great all-in-one compact saltwater aquarium. I have friends whom have JBJ 28-gallon Nanocube which is a good product, but lacks rear compartment cover which leads to increased water evaporation of rear chamber and no refugium. The Biocube is well-designed with 3 rear chambers. Chamber one can hold a heater and filter bag of phoslock, second middle chamber (largest) is a terrific refugium which has visible glass rear wall perfect for attaching JBJ Nano-refugium LED light from exterior using suction cups. I recommend JBJ LED refugium light for $60. I bought 26lbs live rock and decided to keep only 18lbs in main display. I put the rest of LR in middle chamber. I am growing cheato and copepods in the middle refugium chamber. The third left chamber holds water pump. I see no issues with pump which came with Biocube, but also purchased Cobalt Aquatics MJ1200 $34 which is former design of Maxijet 1200 made in Italy as a backup. The Biocube's filter system is quiet and cooling fans do not make much noise. Note that Oceanic makes Biocube protein skimmer AND small UV sterilizer (check Ebay too). I bought a Biocube UV sterilizer which attaches to existing water pump. I change 5 gallons of water weekly and decided against skimmer for space reasons.

The Biocube's lighting system can run hot despite cooling fans. The aquarium was pushing 79 degrees in late March which worried me. It is very difficult to install additional cooling fans into the hood. Thankfully, there are several great companies making retro kit LED light systems for nano reefers. I bought a soldered 95% fully assembled retro LED kit specifically for the Biocube from StevesLeds.com for $294. Since is fully assembled, you simply remove the hood and existing light & cooling systems to screw in the new LED kit. You are removing entire guts of interior hood. Takes less than 1 hr and a Phillips screwdriver. LED kit is equipped with pressurized cooling fan which is used in Sony WEGA TV's. LED kit is dimmable and has 2 controls. RapidLed also makes a similar $245 dimmable kit for the Biocube. The main difference is that Steve's model includes cooling fan. RapidLED does not include fan (you would keep existing cooling fans) and one must purchase a reef controller to dim lights and purchase two separate dimmer controls. Both make great LED lighting retro kit systems so is tough decision. After making my LED lighting system upgrade, I'm very satisfied with my aquarium.

I tried starting up a saltwater aquarium using my freshwater tank, hang-on filter, etc... While it worked fine for a FOWLR tank, I was unsuccessful when adding corals. After wasting a ton of money and time, I caved and bought this coralife tank. What a life saver! I did a few minor mods like cutting out the tab separating the intake from the second chamber to allow greater flow. Got rid of all those bio balls and added a carbon bag, nodes I already had, purigen, and a protein skimmer. Life is good now. This is worth the money, just do your research on biocube modifications to make this worth the price.

I purchased this through petsolutions and set it up instantly as an upgrade from the original biocube upon arrival. It's been running now for a week and I love it! My fish are happy as well as the corals I had. The colors in my fish, corals and inverts show better with the lighting on the system. It runs very quietly and is so easy set up, take care of and get to the cambers when needed for your mods or add ons. I found the add ons like my sterilizer and skimmer to be more complicated to set up in the tank then the tank was. I get many compliments on my system and am even considering buying another if I find space to set it up for seahorses or something! All Glass Aquarium AAG29607 Versa Top, 72bf

The 72 gallon bow front Aqueon Versa Top came to me from Ozbo and in excellent condition. The top I received is different than the picture. It is actually split in half from front to back instead of the single lid as shown in order to fit the center brace. That is a good thing as the center brace in the Aqueon 72 gallon bow front aquarium I have has a rabbit that it sits in. I had to attach two included handles and cut the back strip to fit my plumbing which is normal. I'm very please with its construction and fit. Would definitely order from Amazon, Ozbo, and Aqueon again.

Like many other reviewers have commented, this is not one glass topit comes in two pieces, but fits the 72 gallon bowfront perfectly, and it's better that it comes in two piecesone side can have complete coverage, while the other side can leave room for air tubing/filters. Unfortunately, like a couple of other reviewers on here, I had the bad experience of shoddy packagingwhen it arrived, all of the 'padding' in the package was on one side. Upon opening the package I discovered one of the sides (the opposite side of the one with all the padding, so clearly that padding helps) was shattered. This is a very disconcerting thing when you spend this much money on a product (poor college student here, so this is a big deal for me). That said, the side that was not shattered fit perfectly and looked quite good. It's because, excluding shoddy packaging, it's a good product, on top of the fact that returning things to amazon is about the easiest thing in the world (I didn't even have to leave my apartmentjust repacked the top in the original packaging, clicked the option for amazon to contact UPS, and printed the return labelnext day UPS shows up, and day after that I had my refund in my accounttwo days total, it was kind of amazing). So the ease of return, along w/the knowledge that it is a good product, led me to the 3 star review. I have gone ahead and tried re-ordering it, hoping for better results this time. I will update w/the condition of the second package. Really, if you are looking for a glass top for your aquarium, if you order directly through amazon they are so good w/returns that the only reason not to give it a try (in my book) is if you are in urgent need of a top right awayif you have time, give it a chance, returns are super easy and free.

It took about 10 days to arrive and when I opened this big box and dug out all the paper I see the aquarium box on the bottom wondering why it was not cushioned with the paper and sitting on the bottom. I take it out and yes you quested it it was broken. I had to wait for the return label via email and send it back. I did not order another one because I am afraid the same knuckle head would pack the next one. It is a shame because now the are on sale.

This 72 bow front aquarium top was purchased for my daughter-in-law's 72 gal. tank. I ordered it from Amazon and since my daughter-in-law lives in Wisconsin, I was apprehensive about it fitting her tank. However, it fit great and she's happy. The pump sent is not the pump pictured. Also, the end of the pump wont stay on the unit. Steer clear of this one...

Bought this as a replacement for a small fountain. The rise is about 2 feet, and I have to keep the pump dialed back to about 20% flow to keep it from going too fast, so there's plenty of power. It's been running constantly for two months without a hitch.

When I first got it, it worked well. However, within 45 days it started rattling when I turned it on... past the time that I could return it to Amazon. I would expect a pump to last longer than 45 days.

I bought this pump to replace the one in my office fountain which died after about 8 years.

It doesn't look quite like the picture but that doesn't matter. It fit into the required space and connected to the existing tubing. There were several other connective options in the package which I didn't need.

On the lowest setting it moves the water up approx 2 1/2 feet and spills it over the top. MOST IMPORTANTLY, it does so silently!

Gulfstream Tropical AGU030SM Mag-Float Glass Aquarium Cleaner, Small

This magnet works. Unlike scrub sponges, your arm stays dry. The surface of the magnet that goes inside the aquarium is rough enough to actually take the algae off the glass. Unlike another brand of algae magnet that I've used, it floats, so you don't have to tie a string to it. If you haven't used magnets before, keep in mind that there will be places in your aquarium that a magnet may not be able to reach or you may have to move things around to get there (i.e. around the filter and heater). If your aquarium's close to the wall, getting to the back of the aqarium gets tricky too. A yardstick helps. Whatever you do, please don't buy this product for an acrylic aquarium. It's meant only for glass like it says in the title. The manufacturer makes one for acrylic. I can't review that one since I've never had acrylic, but make sure you're getting the right kind for your tank.

I wreaked my 55 with these magnets becuse i didnt notice tiny iron particals that must have came from the sand got stuck to the mag. at first they worked great from me i plan to buy a new one just giving anyone new to this product the heads up to keep an eye on the magnets make sure their clean!

I've used this for over a year and here are my thoughts.

Pros:

Works great on GLASS aquariums.

Cleans the algae on the glass great, just make sure you use the rough side to do the scraping.

Cleans without you having to get your hand down in the water.

Easy to take the Mag Float around corners

Cons:

Hard to clean at the corners and seams of the glass.

Be careful if you have sand in your tank as it can scratch the glass if sand particles get trapped in the Mag Float as you drag it around.

Tips:

When you are cleaning corners I find it easier to put the Mag Float vertical and drag it up and down rather than horizontally. You'll get more coverage that way.

When you are finished cleaning, take the Mag Float to the top and pull away your end of it so the Mag Float floats up to the surface nearest where you just released it. Then just use your fingers and grab it out of the water. If you take your end and grab it with the magnet then you'll likely splash yourself and your surroundings.

Overall I give this 4.5 stars. Hard to clean the corners but it is what it is and great maintenance between full-blown tank cleanings.

There have been a lot of reviews about how it scratches your glass if sand gets in it, but the product has warnings. The size is 1" X 2", really unexpected but it's good. It says on the back of pack:

Clean outside aquarium surface thoroughly before each use.

Remove all debris from Mag-Float prior to each use.

Do not use Mag-Float above waterline or on dry surface.

Keep Mag-Float away from the gravel line and glass aquarium sealant.

The magnet part with logo Mag-Float is placed on the outside aquarium surface.

Mag-Float can be left attached to aquarium surface.

Mag-Float can be used on fresh/saltwater aquariums.

Keep Mag-Float away from electronic devices such as computers, pace makers, etc.

Manufacturer/Distributor assumes no liability for any damages to your aquarium due to improper use of product.

All other reviews that complain have simply been a result of misuse. This is a great product. I recommend it, but please pay attention to the size of this one, 1" X 2"

This magnet is better suited for glass aquariums that get a lot of algae on the surface of the glass. For day-to-day or average use, the magnet bristles are too harsh and will gladly host any particles floating in the water that will scratch your glass. So be careful, they way to use it is to rinse both surfaces of the cleaner (outside and inside) to make sure there aren't any particles stuck. Then, as you are doing a water change, use a sponge to wipe the inside of the aquarium making sure you eliminate any particles or sand stuck to the glass. Then use the magnet (make sure you pair it only once). If you follow this process you will reduce the chances that you will scratch the glass. I am giving it two stars because for me all these steps are an inconvenience.

R2 Dual Extreme Aquarium Moonlight

I have a 55gal freshwater tank with a lot of rare fish that are entirely nocturnal, so I ordered this set in order to watch them at night. The light output on them is surprisingly good for only having a total of 10 LED's (I think its either 5 or 6 in each) and it give the water a nice shimmer (note you can only get shimmer if the surface of the water is disturbed, in my case by my power heads and filters). They are easy to install as well. The two problems I have that kept me from giving these a full five stars are:

1. For the price, I really feel like these should come with reflectors. The LEDs are simply on a circuit board floating in glass, so that you get a significant amount of light going to the sides and top. I originally used aluminum foil to counter this, but it kept falling off when I opened the glass and I finally just gave up. I have a hood so that you can't tell that the light is leaking, but it wastes some of the luminosity, and if you don't have a hood you will see blue light all over the place.

2. Another gripe with the price, this time compared to other similar products. After buying these, I discovered ecoxotic stunner strips, which contain many more LEDs in many different light colors (including this blue and even ultraviolet) for the same price, and they make a strip that will go the whole length of my tank for approximately double the price of these.

Overall I don't necessarily regret buying these, but I'm not sure I would again after finding ecoxotic's strips.

I have recently changed my lighting system on my 76 gallon Oceanic half round saltwater tank. The light I am using is LED and it has great coverage. However there was not separate plugs for the day and night lights. This caused problems because I have been on a timer for years, and trying to remember to turn off and on the lights everyday was next to impossible. I purchased these lights to use for my moon effect. The R2 Dual Extreme lights have been the perfect compliment to my tank. I have a 90 gallon aquarium with glass tops and a double flourescent tube fixture. These lights (2) mounted perfectly between the tubes on the reflector and provide good side to side coverage for a four foot wide area. Mine is 24 inches high and the more height gives it a wider coverage area than a shallow tank would. At 24" high they probably cover 5-6' wide on the bottom. The aquarium is 18" deep so it doesn't cover that. But that wasn't my intention which was to provide a nice glow to the tank whenever the main light it off. Actually I just keep the LED's on all the time. I did wrap the electrical tape people mention on the clips to hold the light fixture in the clips. I product works as expected, I just hope the LED longevity is satisfactory.

These LED's are great.

I have a 80 gallon Cichlid tank (5' long) with 3 of these installed. 2 just didn't quite have enough effect for me.

The look of it is very impressive if you have water surface agitation, as it will shimmer on the bottom.

I've had these for a few months and they're good so far. They will work with a timer if you want.

All my fish are more active at night now, and 2 of them mated for the first time only days after I put these lights in.

My freshwater lobster also started coming out at night and exploring.

It's nice to see the aquarium life at night, and everybody in the tank seems happier now.

Apparently having moonlight is a much more vital part of aquarium life than most of us think.

I've had these running as moonlights for a few days now. I like'em. I have the duals over my 54 corner. They have a nice spread over my near 38 inch wingspan. The on/off switch is nice but really just leave them on all the time. One power supply for both lights is nice.

They aren't the most rugged of lights but for the price I think they make sense. Replaced an old LED strip and even though both of these R2's together are half the size they emit much more light.

Let's see how the LED's fair over time. Hopefully they just work for years.
