Bayshore Aquarium BW3SLVR Small Concave Wall Aquarium, Silver
biOrb Life Aquarium
UPDATE (1 Year): Just wanted to quickly update my experience with these tanks. It has been a year since I bought them and my fish are healthy and still no loses. I am still using the supplied air pumps with out any noise problems. If you are careful you shouldn't have to worry about scratching the acrylic, my tanks still look as good as the day I bought them. Only drawbacks are the small feeding holes and you can only get one hand/arm through the top of the tanks when setting up and cleaning, this can make it difficult when trying to reach the bottom of the 16 gallon tank because of how tall it is.I have had this this fish-tank (the 8gal Bio Life) for a few weeks now.
I added the ceramic media, and conditioned the water with Stress Coat and Stress Zyme, Installed the filter which was a breeze! and let it run without fish for over a week so the tank could settle.
I also made sure that the temperature was stable for the fish that I wanted to keep. I live in Jamaica, where it is mostly warm, but we have a air-conditioner in the living room where the tank is so it can get a bit cooler than normal.
All other water parameters were good, meaning Ammonia, PH, Nitrate, and Nitrite Levels were all good.
Now it was time to add the fish, Not to overload the tank, I am starting out with a group of 4 Neon Tetras (I will add 4 more in a month to make it a school). I know they are not the recommended starter fish for a New Tank, but I thought I would give it go seeing that all tested conditions were good.
I have to say I was a bit worried at first with all the information on the Net saying how hard Tetras were, and that you definitely need a heater etc. etc., I has been over a week, and I am glad to say that my fish seem very happy, and tank is doing fine! and without a heater. I even grew some brine shrimp to give them a treat, and they ate them readily!
I really love this tank it is not only beautiful to look at, it is so convenient in every way! Here are my Likes and Dislikes:
Likes:
Beautiful A Work of Art
Convenient Adequate Filter System So Far
Convenient Feeding Hole.
LED Lighting to mimic real light situations and saves energy.
It's Acrylic which is stronger than glass! Also, not many people realize, but Acrylic does not Conduct the Outside Temperature to the Water inside the tank very readily because Acrylic is a poor heat/cold conductor. So it keeps your water at a more stable temperature than a glass one. (see for yourself, place ice inside a glass, and place some in a plastic cup which one can you feel more cold on the outside? The Glass of course.
Comes Complete with almost everything that you will need to start (You will still need a Net, a fish tank water changer/cleaner, and more fish food and water conditioners, and replacement media)
Note: To save on buying replacement filters, buy just one more Replacement Bio-filter, and some Bulk Activated Carbon Pellets, and Some Diamond Blend or other Ammonia Removing Product. So when you need to change the filter you can, rinse the sponge filter in some of the tank water removed (not to kill the good bacteria), and replace the carbon and ammonia stones with what you bought, and you can vary the amount of each depending on your tank conditions.
Dislikes:
LED Light should have a 24HR Moonlight setting
Could have a diverter air valve inside so that you can connect other air stones, etc, without having to push an air line through the top.
Overall I really like this tank, and thinking of buying the 16gal.
I will followup this review, as I have the tank longer if anything out of the ordinary happens. After purchasing the biUbe 9 gallon aquarium for a bedroom (and loving it) here on amazon.com, we decided to get the biOrb Life 60 for our living room. I would say it's an in between tank (better than those little Sponge Bob tanks but not as good as a regular 20 or more gallon tank with optional filtration). The upright design makes it a perfect addition due to limited amount of space. We set it up as a small freshwater tropical tank for some Glofish. It fits nicely in the corner and is the first thing you notice when you walk into the room.
The tank comes with everything you need to set it up. If done correctly, it makes a beautiful aquarium for our small tropical fish. I like the upright design of the tank and the fact that it is flat (as opposed to the biUbe which is round and distorts my fish) so you can see the fish clearly.
Pros:
Nice upright design for those looking to save space and can't fit a long rectangular aquarium.
Comes with everything you need to get started. Directions are clear to follow.
The light is nice and bright just like the fluorescents you see in those nice big tanks.
Cons:
Overpriced. I brought mine on sale, and though I love the look of the tank, I think they are way overpriced.
The air pump that comes with the tank makes a buzzing noise and doesn't last long. I use mine as a spare and purchase a Rena 100.
It's acrylic which maybe stronger than glass, but scratches very easily, so be careful when maintaining.
There is a limited amount and types of fish you can keep in these.
So basically, if you have the room to fit a big tank in your house, than get a bigger cheaper one (the bigger the tank, the easier it is to maintain). But if you are like me and don't have a lot of space and would like to keep a small amount of fish in a designer aquarium, than the biOrb Life is right for you.
UPDATE: After having the tank for a couple of months I wanted to update my experience with this tank. The one complaint I have is the top of the tank. The opening is a bit small which makes it a little hard to do regular maintenance and leaves little room for any added filters and such (the little opening in the light fixture is just big enough to fit the cord from the heater). I added an internal filter for some extra filtration because I like to over filter my tanks, so my light fixture doesn't fit perfectly in the opening due to the extra cord coming out of the tank (no big deal though). Also, because of how deep the tank is, I find siphoning the bottom to be somewhat difficult. This is something I can deal with. Other than that, so far so good.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS TANK. Save yourself some grief. We lost so many of our beloved fish in this tank and we're experienced fish keepers. This review is for the 16 gallon tank but, I'm pretty sure it applies to the other sizes.
Pros:
Great looking tank. That's it.
Cons:
Inadequate filter system
Inadequate lighting system
No additional filters, lighting or feeders in the market that are made specifically for this type of tank
Very difficult to balance the tank due to all of the above
Our experience:
Plants wither and die.
Fish are unhappy and we lost a lot of fish due to difficulty in balancing tank.
We bought a standard tank and transferred the other fish and they are thriving in that tank. The standard tank has been low maintenance and the fish and plants are thriving.

I bought the 12 gallon BioOrb Tank in Feb from Amazon. After 1 month, the fish tank exploded and the water, rocks, and fish ended up on my living room floor. I have pictures.Worst tank ever. Don't be fooled by the slick design, that is if you care about your floorboards and furniture.
Penn-Plax® Aquarium Plant Anchors, 12pk
I've used them quite a few times to group a bunch of cuttings together after pruning some of my fast growing plants (particularly 'rotala', which roots very quickly), and then have brand new plants to help fill up my freshwater tropical aquarium.

I have a 3/3.5 gallon aquarium for my two little African Dwarf Frogs. They love plants to hide in, but the plants kept coming up when I was changing the water (they are growing so I'm doing frequent water change to get rid of some of the crap.) These frogs are very timid and freakout when I change their water or put my hand in there. So I wanted to give them back there beloved hiding spots while at the same time causing them the least amount of stress. If I tied together a few of the small viney plants with a few of the weights (which are just strips of lead and kind of remind me of ties you use for bread), they would hold down. Even when I sucked water away with my siphon or put water down. The frogs are oblivious to the ties. However, I had a hard time use these for single tiny plants. They tend to make the plant shorter when you are putting it on....lost one plant that way. So far only plant single plant has come back up. I guess it is helping with the problem, but not sure how it will do long term.

These do what they are supposed to... but it takes a lot of them to hold down some of my plants. I had to use 6 for a larger plant in my aquarium. These anchors a great in my aquarium. I have two aquariums and both tanks a heavily planted. These anchors do the trick. Very easy to work with. All Glass Aquarium AAG29071 Versa Top, 48 by 18-Inch

Nutrafin Cycle Biological Filter Supplement
Day 1 you'll (shake the dickens out of it) dump in a ton of the stuff as directed, by day 2 I've seen the ammonia spike that signifies the beginning of cycling. Day 3 it says you're done... and you have cycled the aquarium... ammonia and nitrite drop to zero and nitrate is at a safe level (under 5 ppm) by day 4 in my experience, but when you add fish, don't be surprised if you see a 'mini-cycle' where the ammonia and nitrite spike a bit. The tank and fish are fine but consult a forum or fish store if you're worried. One review on here stated they tried replacing all of their water to fix an algae problem?... not what this product is for. This runs through the 1-4 week process of initially cycling the tank within 3 days, doesn't make it impossible to make mistakes.
I will say I have some reservations about the "immediate stocking" part... I would suggest setting the aquarium up, pop an aquatic plant in there and maybe a pinch of fish flake (for some organic matter to break down) and use Cycle for the 3 days, THEN introduce fish SLOWLY, just a couple at a time if they're small, for bigger fish like cichlids, only one at a time... unless you have a very well established tank, dunking a bunch of fish will spike ammonia to really dangerous levels and might kill all of your fish. This being said, I have thrown 3, 2" fish into a 10 gallon tank of treated water, added Cycle, and it did work... it just isn't exactly humane, as the cycling can be hard on the fish's gills, slime coat, etc. This was about 2 months ago and all of those fish are still fine.
API Stress Zyme8 OZ. is another version of this product, but does it over the course of 2 weeks. I've used it as well and it seems to do the job well also, so if 3 days sounds too good to be true (though somehow it is true), you may want to give it a try (I've used Cycle and Stress Zyme together in factdidn't change anything, Cycle did a 3 day cycle and Stress Zyme caused it to cycle again so I wouldn't recommend mixing them.
Essentially, despite what so many fish fans say, this stuff does work... but only if you shake the heck out of the bottle (it stirs up the bacteria). I have used it, currently use it, and will continue to use it both for setting up new tanks and keeping the beneficial bacteria level up in my established tanks (I have 4, 3 fresh, 1 salt). Follow the directions and remember to SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE that bottle!I had tried a competing product, by Tetra, and did not have good results. Ammonia stayed high, algae bloomed, fish died. Went to my local fish store and the kind lady suggested this. So glad she did. Within days I had ammonia dropping, nitrite rising, then dropping and nitrate rising. My tank was cycled in three days. I was able to add more fish a couple days later and didn't have a spike of ammonia.
I remember the old days of having to wait a month, or more, for a new tank to cycle. This is so much better, and more humane for the fish, too. I recommend this Nutrafin Cycle!

This should be one of the first products you buy when setting up an aquarium. This has the good bacteria you need to help speed along your cycle process. You could do it the long way but try this you won't regret it.Read Best Reviews of Nutrafin Cycle Biological Filter Supplement Here
I'm very new to keeping aquatic pets, but after over a month after starting, my fish, shrimp, snail and plants are healthy and the tank is stableI got a 5 gallon acrylic tank kit with some substrate and a rock and started dosing with Cycle from day 1. After a day or two, I bought some marimo moss and a couple of red shrimp from a local shop and added them into my new tank. Within a week, after doing partial water changes every other day, it seemed like my tank finished cycling with trace amounts of ammonia, no detectable nitrites and a build up of nitrates.
Now it seems that without any cycling product, it typically takes about a month to fully cycle a new aquarium. It took me a week with Cycle and no algae bloom!
I do add a little bit of Cycle in after doing water changes, but only because I have so much left (I think I bought the 16 oz bottle) and its shelf life is relatively short due to live bacteria inside. I don't think it's necessary, but I did recently buy a new filter and it certainly didn't hurt.
Definitely worth checking out.

It makes me feel good that there's something I can do to help keep my fish healthy. I add this during every water change and each time a new fish is added (which rarely happens, but happens). I had a moment when all my fish were suffering from something unknown and were going through shock. It was the scariest thing I thought I would lose my whole tank. I added this every day for 3 days and miraculously only 1 fish died. The rest of my crew are going strong several weeks after that event. I don't have any proof but I'm sure this helped keep them from dying.Highly recommended!

I recently set up a 25 gallon rimless cube tank. I wanted to minimize what was hanging on the outside of the tank so I purchased this Hydor. After a long search it seemed Hydor was the only game in town for a inline heater. Well, it's great! Takes a few minutes to connect and that's it. No leaks, no fluctuations. I have it connected to my Eheim Ecco. Working for a month now in an unheated room and it is dead accurate and does not fluctuate. As some others noted it does make an audible click when it turns on but mine is inside a cabinet so it really is barely noticeable. Less than the click of a pen. And if it wasn't for that I'd have to check to even see if it's on.Great product, stop looking this is it.

Have had the heater for almost a year now, and so far it works great for my 40 gallon tank. Only complaint is that it turns on and off very frequently (about every 2 minutes) with an audible click that can be quite a nuisance. Also, its exquisite sensitivity, which makes it turn on and off so frequently, makes me worry that it might wear out before long.Want Hydor ETH 200 In-Line External Heater 200w 1/2" hose Discount?
I have gone through 3 of these heaters in the last few years. I was attracted to the design, and Hydor is about the only company making inline heaters.Unfortunately I had all three fail. Two failed silently (stopped working, temp dropped on the tank) and the last one failed catastrophically and cooked everything in the tank.
Since I don't want to lose all my fish and shrimp again, I have gone back to the Eheim Ebo Jager in tank heaters. I have never had a problem with them. The only reason I changed was the slick design of the Hydors.
Fusion Air Pump 600 for Aquariums, Large
FYI, it does have 2 air outlets, so if you just need one outlet you will need to cap the second or run them both into a Y connector and then to your outlet. This pump is the quietiest pump I have owned, you cant even hear that it is on it is so quiet, this is highly recommended if you are looking for a product that works great and is quiet.

EDIT### 1/8/2013So I still have this little guy and it's still running to this day! the total amount of air being pumped has decreased over time but it's still a lot and enough to power 2 small stones, and 2 large 4" stone at about 3/4th from full. Great buy for the price!

Well i have had the pump for a few weeks now and it's running like is said it should. Had an old pump that died after like 4 years of use so it was time to replace, looked around a lot and found this to be the best pump for the job.
We have a 50Gal tank with 4 air stones. so far it has been running from the day we got it no problems so far.
Great buy!

I like the dual air flow. Not really as quiet as I expected. I do recommend this item to other people.I feel the other reviews over exaggerated the power of this air pump. Yes, it worked just fine, but there was no amazing airflow like other people thought. Based on the reviews I thought I could split both exit holes.. but I ended up having to buy another pump and not splitting anything to get the power I needed.biOrb Tropical Heater Pack

I wasn't sure if the thermometer would be separate or part of the heater unit so was pleased to see it was and I can use it to check the temperature of water during changes. Saves a couple of dollars

This tank is very lightweight and easy to clean...just use a paper towel or cello sponge to wash the inner walls or it will get scratched because it's plastic. The LED light is not very bright but it adds great ambiance and the fact it has a lid is very convenient and safer if your betta is a jumper. My betta jumped out of the marina zen cube b/c the opening is very wide.
The only reason it did not get 5 stars is that it didn't come with an adaptor and batteries can run pretty expensive so I'm using rechargeables to save money. I definitely would recommend this over the other betta tanks for both looks and value.Well, it was less then 20 bucks for my bettas setup. When the tank arrived ,the packaging was a bit odd, but the wait was worth it. This tank has an outlet on the back that you can power WITH YOUR PHONE CHARGER. Yeah, did you ever think you'd hear of a tank powered by a usb? What I like to do is power it with my xbox. This tank looks good wherever you place it in your house. Mine personally has green river rocks with green plants. The lighting from the tank really gives it a retro apperance, and my little guy couldn't be happier! Oh!There is one small issue.. The lights aren't that powerful, even when plugged in. They still give the tank a fair lighting, but don't expect your average incandescent bulb.10/10 In my opinion :)

I needed a tank with a lid, since my cat kept drinking out of the one I had. I love the shape, its fan and cool! The base lights up, however, one of the bubls was burnt when I received it. Its a cool tank and it came in one piece and in no time at all! This tank looks nice and sleek; but it lacks filteration and the lights run on batteries. The batteries need to be loaded from the bottom. Very awkward when the tank is filled and in use.My Beta is very happy in his new home. It is easy to clean and looks nice and modern. Happy with it !Zoo Med Repti Temperature Rheostat
Perfect.I picked up this product with the idea of controlling the temperatures in my ball pythons enclosure but even on this rheostat's lowest setting it was still way to hot. If this is used in conjunction with an under tank heated save yourself the money and just get a plug in lamp dimmer for home depot.

This thing even at its lowest setting remains way too hot. Your reptile can suffer severe burns that result in illness, death and unneeded veterinary bills. I'd agree with the other reviewer. Avoid this product.Read Best Reviews of Zoo Med Repti Temperature Rheostat Here
this product keeps the under tank heater and lamp at a good warm for summer and can be turned to a hotter temp. for winter. I LOVE IT. only thing is that it took some wiggles to get the plugs in.I guess I didnt do enough research on this and thought it was something else. Basically its just a light dimmer and doesnt really dim that much. Not even using it right now since the lamp is on full blast anyways because its so cold in NY. But I will probably use it in the summer time and have it on the lowest setting so my turtle doesnt overheat. I kinda wish it would be a bigger difference from high to low, but its okay.
