This thing has so many air leaks that there is no chance of starting a siphon. The siphon tube is thin, cheap ribbed plastic which does not seal to either end of the pump. I thought this would be great with the controllable flow, but since no siphon is possible there is no flow to control. Took 2 weeks to arrive too, so I guess you get what you pay for. It's not even worth my time to return it.Works well and is simple to use. Shipping was not as long as stated. i purchased this item almost 4 years ago. i have had great results. it is the best filter for the money. i do clean my bio balls and sponge block every 6-9months in fresh water. it keeps my 90gal reef tank in excelent cond. i would buy it again.
They responded quick and was able to ship me another over flow a week later.
Everything worked as expected except the siphon from the tank back to the overflow wasn't
going very fast so the return pump didn't have enough water to pump back.

This looks like a good product if you have: 1)aquarium bigger than 55 gallons, 2)no very small fish.I have 55 gallons aquarium and the space under it is kind of too small for this filter. I don't have much room left for extention cords or any power strips. And if I put a power strip there it is too close to all the water and I am worrying about any contact of electricity and water. Maybe it is because the back of my aquarium is close to a wall and I can't put any equipment there too.
The second problem I had is that my young flame angel fish was tossed by the return water when it wanted to swim closer to the top.
I tried to direct the return pipe to the wall of the aquarium but the fish was flying anyway. My bigger blue tang was fine though.
The third problem for me was that I have habbit to a really quiet tank and the pump for the filter was making to much noise for my taste. I had Catalina Aquarium CA 2200 Aquarium Pump 850 GPH
But the biggest problem was the company I bought it from. It was GlobalPets
I tried the filter just once and considering all the problems wanted to return it. They would not accept it back even for a restocking fee. I never will buy from them anymore. Be sure that it is OK for you not to be able to return if you ordering from them.

Works but not that well. Set it up to feed a 33 gallon long marine aquarium for a week while I was on vacation. I do like the way the drum rotates completely all the way around at once to dump food, some feeders use a slow turning of a drum to time the addition of food. Setup of the timer is just more complex than it should be. I used the included Velcro to mount the feeder to the top of a wood canopy where the flakes were to fall into a section I cut out for the hang-on-tank protein skimmer to fit in. Upon pulling the drum off to add flakes the plastic backing of the drum pulled out and bent(not good)although I was able to get it almost back into position when I put the drum back on. Also, when I returned the feeder had leaned over off the Velcro so that it was out of optimal position and the flakes weren't falling as they should. My fish lived but I wouldn't trust it again.EDIT: I gave this product another try when going on vacation for two weeks this October 2007. When set up properly and filled properly this feeder works with out fail. I secured the feeder to a strip of scrap wood screwed into the tank hood so that it had to stay in place. I also filled the drum through the discharge hole instead of pulling the drum off. My fish were still fat and happy on my return. Can't be beat for the price. 5 Stars. My wife and I are big fish lovers and also like to travel, weather permitting. We have three aquariums in our home. A 30 gal, a 20 gal, and a 10 gal fry tank. I work 5 days a week and come weekends we are out of here. Purchased a $40.00 auto feeder from a local Pet supply store and it worked for 20 minutes and quit. They replaced it and the same thing happened so we got our money back and purchased the AquaChef to feed the 30 gallon tank. Set it up and let it feed the fish in the 30 gallon tank for several days to see how it worked. Its hell to program if you don't read the instructions. If you go thru them once step by step and it rather simple. My 12 year old granddaughter programmed it in about 5 minutes the first time but did not understand military time so had it feeding at the wrong time but working very well. I helped her with the time setting and it began feeding flawlessly. With the exception of the fry tank, they all will have one of these on it. Don't let the instructions scare you, my granddaughter didn't. Going to purchase several more by my aquariums and my daughters. I love it !!!UPDATE:
Mounting the device with the clamping device is rather simple. The C clamp will attach to the front of all aquariums. Do this: place the device close to a lightbulb for 10 minutes to get the plastic more pliable. Not close enough to melt it however. Now remove the rubber suction cup from the inside of the clamp. This should be put away for future use. Use the non-hook side of the velcroe which is just a soft buffer for the glass. Place it where you want the feeder. Now slide the clamp down till it hits the inside of the plastic and gently open the clamp a small amount. It will spring back, no problem. Do not overdue the spreading of the clamp and do it slowely. Now the inside protion will go directly against the glass and the screw can be turned in against the velcroe. Tight and secure. Works extremely well.

I bought the Aquachef before going away on a vacation, as most people do. Some things I first noticed; programming is a bit ambiguous, but I figured it out; the device feels like it's going to break when you pull the drum off to fill it (there's no release, you just pull it), and the supply door is just a bent plastic fold, not really a door (mine is already starting to break), and the "clamp" was too narrow to get over either of my tank rims (they are regular plastic frames), I had to cut off the screw clamp and rely on the velcro to hold it on, it leans at an angle with the velcro barely holding it in place.I have had it for about nine months now, it periodically loses all power, you have to bang it go get the display to come back on, all programming gets lost. If you disturb the machine (for instance when trying to pull the drum off) it loses power. Today, I noticed that the feeding latch was in the wrong position, after hitting manual feed a few times, I saw that the drum only goes around 180 degrees, not 360, so the feeding latch only lets food out every other cycle. I changed the batteries, re-programmed it, and it still only goes half way around.
Basically, it's junk. When I first noticed it losing power, I bought another brand as a back-up and I have both running. That feeder isn't much higher quality. I would love to find a high quality, reliable feeder.

I purchased this feeder so my fish would not go hungry while I was on vacation. The time and the feedings are set using a 24h clock, so it's pretty hard to mess up. I did a trial run and everything seemed to be working fine. When I got back from vacation, my fish were not looking so hot. I fed them and they ate voraciously which got me wondering if the feeder was actually working. So I set my iphone alarm for 10:00 am and watched the feeder to see if it was dispensing food. Nothing. Then I set it for 11:00 am, and watched. Still nothing. So somewhere during the time I was gone, this feeder just quit working. Batteries are fine, clock is set right and so is the feeding time.Maybe it will work for you, but it didn't work for me.
Aquarium Fish Tank Protein Skimmer Filter with Power Head Pump
This skimmer will work a little but it will take you awhile to get it right. It is difficult to adjust properly to get it to actually skim and not just fill the collection cup with water. Also it is a "In Tank" skimmer and it takes up a lot of space. I had it running in a 55 gallon tank and it looked terrible. If you are planning on getting a skimmer please, for your and you tanks sake buy the best protein skimmer you can afford, preferably a hang on back (HOB) skimmer. That will save you precious tank space and will look a whole lot better. If you need something quick this will do, but it doesn't work very well and its an eyesore in the tank.

I have never used a skimmer and really bought this for the pump for backup. Pump really only works in skimmer but I tried it and what do you know! I now love skimmers.

I was a little nervous purchasing this item. Once I received it tho, I was very happy with my purchase. It is very sturdy and the plastic is very strong. The hood fits fine on the tank itself, using a standard filter. I had to C-U-T the rear section of the hood at both ends to allow for Penguin double filters AND a top mount heater. I used a saber saw to enlarge the openings on both ends as the standard break out are way too small. The light is a full spectrum light and it does show the neon fish rather well. You get what you pay for. Not a bad deal, if you know how to saw. Remember though, alter the product and void the warranty. I have been getting too many requests for the size from here. I purchased this for a planted aquarium. It heats so evenly. It sounded like a great idea to use as an under the sand heating cable so the entire tank is evenly heated. It works so well. The plants took off growing like crazy. I am so glad I tried it. It has been a year. At first like any heater, I had to adjust it until the correct temp was being delivered and I have not had to touch it since. I am totally thrilled with this product. Any hydor product has been fine for me. I used the dial thermoset with this not the digital version.Update: it is now 3-09-2013 and I have been using this heater cable for two years in a heavily planted aquarium with assorted tetras, crystal red shrimp and guppies. The plants and fish are all in great shape. I attribute some of the stability of the tank to the heater cable since it is even heat distribution with no fluctuations. I have experienced no issues so I am not sure what to think of the other reviews I am reading. Perhaps they did not also purchase the required heat regulator? It controls the cable with a dial to select the desired temp. You would need to let these components acclimate to room temperature before using, install them properly (not touching another length of cable on the bottom of the tank and not extending the heating part outside of the tank the first black band is the line separation of non heated and the heated part of the cable which should be in the water). I could not be happier with this style of heating and have set up tank number two (saltwater) with it as well. It also is working well, one month out. I learned many years ago how detrimental heaters can be with the submersable type if not laced within a great flow of water to avoid uneven heat. With the cable heater, I have no worries and no complaints at all. If there was another rating 5 star plus, I would choose it.
I am using it on a 15 gallon aquarium freshwater and a 8 gallon aquarium saltwater
Note the low rating is for the bad recommendation on tank size from Hydor. Once installed so that they have enough power to heat, these are great.

SeaClear Rectangular Aquarium Combo (Clear)
I have this aquarium. It was my first. It's perfect for anybody who is looking for an aquarium but is scared of breaking the glass. The acrylic is thick and you can see through it just as easily as any glass. Instead of seeing a line of caulk/glue on each corner, the acrylic tank has a smooth sharp turn. The top is glued on. Mine has cut outs for a penguin 330 filter, a small hole for the heater and two larger holes in the middle. They are covered with another piece of acrylic so your lighting wont be splashed. The holes are big enough to move around without any problems.I have very heavy Holey rock that needs to be taken in and out of the aquarium tank during water changes. I've dropped several big pieces numerous times over the years. I worry about hurting the fish, but never about the tank.
The acrylic tank spoiled me. I was given two glass aquariums since this one. I broke the first one when I was cleaning it. The other one is still in my garage. I've decided to stay with acrylic. It's tough and it's just as clear as glass.
I want to say to check this set and make sure you know what it comes with. The one I have came with the acrylic splash cover, a light/ ballast, heater, and Penguin 330 Filter. SeaClear Aquariums are great. I'm just not sure how Petco sells this particular aquarium.
I'm puzzled as to how people looking at this tank can't figure out how big it is. It's described as 36" x 12" x 16", which makes it 6912 cubic inches, or very slightly less than 30 gallons in volume, as measured from the outside. So, we'll call it 29+ gallons!

Ok I believe this tank is a 30 gallon...thats what it said on the packaging paper when i got it. I wouldnt have bought it had I known, but anyways. This sucked that they didnt put the size, it just seemed a bit sketchy to me.This tank has 3 cutouts on top, pretty small, I'm cutting them a bit wider, since I have turtles. Its a pretty great size tank overall, I just hate that the top is glued on. I would have prefered one with no top or one that comes off.

The driftwood is large. Like others who have bought this item, the piece that I received was more beautiful than the one that is pictured. It is a new piece which will leak Tannis into the the water causing the water to turn a brownish color. Some people do not like this, however, it is a natural process and in many cases helps your fish, depending on where they come from. Some fish require a "Black Water" effect which Tannis does provide. It does cause the water to become a little acidic. Mostly, it depends on if your tank was balanced or not. (A truly balanced tank should be at a neutral pH due to acidic and alkaline processes balancing each other out. Example: Nitrification by bacteria causes the water lower in pH; while photosynthesis from plants and algae causes an increase in pH.)Because it is a new piece of driftwood, you may experience a period in which matter begins to decompose and fungus will grow. Fungus is one of nature's cleaners. It may be unsightly for a little while. Again, this is a natural process that will take care of itself in time. If you don't like the fungus at all, get tank mate(s) that like to eat the stuff. I recommend adding a few guppies to your tank, feeder or fancy will do. Just be aware that they are live bearers and have a 28 day birthing cycle. The babies can lead to overstocking, however, if you do not wish to care for them, they will be quickly eaten up by your other fish.
All in all, I am very happy with this piece of driftwood.
**If you have a shorter tank like a 20 gallon long, be sure to email the seller and ask questions about dimensions. Otherwise you might end up with a piece of driftwood that is too tall for you tank.**

I ordered this item knowing that the product I received would not be identical to the one in the picture. I absolutely love the piece I received! I soaked it in hot water for about an hour to remove some of the tannins and placed it in my tank during a water change. My tiger barbs and various loach species absolutely love dancing around the driftwood. They weave above and below the branches and seem so much happier with a more natural piece of aquarium decor.The price is exceptional for the item received and I would recommend it to anyone!

I love the wood looks so perfect in my aquarium, but there was a LOT of tannins, that stuff that makes ur aquarium tea-colored.I had to keep my driftwood soaking,too big to boil,for a whole month long.
