I am using these heaters in two 3 gallon tanks. It works great! At first it ran a little high and because it has an adjustable thermostat I was able to set it to heat my fish tanks just where I wanted them to be. It looks nice and the tank inhabitants have become very active. I highly recommend for small tanks. I am ordering two more for my bettas. Current tanks using them are the africian dwarf frog/red cherry shrimp tank and the guppy tank.

The heater works well once you find the right spot with the knob for the desired temperature. The knob is relatively small and takes a bit of an effort to figure out the sensitivity from the turning.

I bought this heater for my 2.5 gallon red cherry shrimp tank. It keeps my tank at 78 degreea steady. Its a great filter. Its a bit big for a 2.5, but it is easiy hidden with plants.

I would say a 5g tank would be the max i would use it on.
