Marineland (Aquaria)AMLPR3340 Motor Explorer System3 Hex5 Filter Parts for Aquarium

MarinelandAMLPR3340 Motor Explorer System3 Hex5 Filter Parts for AquariumI bought this when the motor burned out on my Eclipse 3 fish tank. It was several years old, so its demise was not surprising.

As another reviewer noted, this is only the motor and housing, and does not include the impeller, so you'll want to make sure to disassemble the old unit and keep your old impeller. Also be sure to transfer the bearings for the bio wheel to the new unit or it may not rotate properly.

If the motor is burned out, buying this WILL fix your problem. It's a heckuva lot cheaper and easier than buying a whole new aquarium!

One last note, if your motor burned out because you had something blocking the intake, you'll want to remove whatever was obstructing the intake, or the problem will recur and you'll be be buying more motors. Eclipse motors quickly burn out against the resistance of sponges or even nylons over the intake hose. They need an unobstructed flow to work properly.

Good product. Replaced my broken pump. Vendor was quick to respond and ship the new pump. Everything working well, fish are happy.

I would not recommend purchasing this product. It is missing the intake tube necessary for running it, and the old intake tube doesn't fit in the hole. When I looked inside where the intake tube is suppose to fit into, the little part that turns around isn't there either. Very disappointing!

We have the Hex 5 tank. Have had it going for 8 years and so it was about time for the motor to burn out. I am thankful I read the reviews when I purchased this and made sure I saved the impeller. Otherwise I could've have seen myself tossing the whole thing and then needing that impeller! One of the reviews also mentioned using a straw to make the old bio-wheel work, and that's exactly what I did. Was glad we had a Capri Sun juice drink in the house and used the straw from that, it didn't need much, just a fraction of an inch but without it the wheel would not have turned. Once I got that rigged up, everything was working just as it should! My fish are happy again!

Purchased this pump as a replacement and it works great. One issue though, the little bio-wheel (not included) is supposed to spin as the water cascades over it --but it doesn't. Basically, the pump/housing doesn't accomodate our older bio-wheel so that it can spin freely.
