I really wish I would of read reviews from petsmart.com about this aquarium set up. Not even 2 weeks into having it and the bulb blew or so I thought. Got a new bulb and it still didn't work, tried one more time and finally figured out hey the light fixture is faulty. Tried to find a new hood and to my surprise they're nowhere to be found, went to the manufactures website and they told me without my receipt which of course I threw away like a dumb ass, it will cost me just as much for a new hood/light fixture as it did for the whole set up if not more!
I thought I might try and take the hood back to the Petsmart I bought the tank from and see if I could exchange it but after reading reviews from their website from customers with the same issues I think I will be finding a different means of lighting for my aquarium. It's a nice little tank an all but take my advice and skip this aquarium set up and find something a little better.....maybe this is why the the tank is on sale.....they got me!I bought this tank along with the matching column stand. After a few weeks of use, I can say that this has been a good tank for me. I like the look the the aquarium and stand, and that it doesn't take up too much space. The greater height than length is probably not good for larger fish, but I have about a dozen small fish in it and they seem to have plenty of room.
The aquarium came with three components: heater, filter and lights. The heater seems to be the best of the three. Although the temperature in my apartment has fluctuated, the temperature of the tank has remained steady at 78-79 degrees. The filter appears to be doing an adequate job; the water is clean if not crystal clear. The lighting is probably adequate for fish alone, and I rather like the soft glow it gives off, but it is insufficient for live plants (at least the ones I selected). After a week, the plants had started to turn a yellowish color. Until I can come up with a permanent solution, I have been putting a table lamp in front of the tank for a few hours each day which has gotten the plants back to a vibrant green color.
