You must have a significant flow of water circulating in order for these items to move. I use the output of a canister filter flowing parallel to the water surface. They don't look very real, as their tails don't move although they are hinged to. They do "swim" just circulating around only on the top with floating plants but get caught in stationary plants or tubes that have to be moved in order for the seahorses to continuously move. If you use them in a salt tank there are probably fewer obstacles than in a fresh water planted tank. They could only fool the totally uninformed. I got them for a gift. It's the thought that counts...
