TetraPond ClearChoice Biofilter PF1, Ponds up to 500 Gallons

This product arrived quickly and was exactly as presented. Only time will tell if it is as efficient as promised but I have every expectation and confidence in TetraPond. I have had a less well-made product for 9 years and this new Bio Filter is even more stury and well made. So I think it will be great.

This filter requires no more than a 550 gph pump, or it will leak and the Venturi will leak, possibly. That is what is going on with mine, but I have ordered a flow control valve to restrict the input, so that should be fixed soon. Also, the outlet is a 1-1/4 inch ID fit. My original set up was all 1 inch, so I had to buy some polyurethane hose at HD for 3.46/ft.! There was nothing that size in the small pond department. I suspect this dimension can't be reduced because it would cause a back pressure. Should eventually be an effective set-up.

I chose the Tetra ClearChoice Biofilter to replace the submersible bio filter in my small pond. I wanted to eliminate the chore of pulling up the submersible to clean the filters, a task I had to do more and more frequently as the fish became more active in the summer. The submersible pump/filter had quit running, and the pond was quite cloudy by the time I installed the ClearChoice. Within two hours after installing the ClearChoice the pond was clear and I could detect no suspended matter in the pond. I have not had to clear the filter media in three weeks, and in fact when I checked there was no sign of the sludge build up I always had to clean in the submersible filter. The installation was easy and the instructions on the proper maintenance were clear and straight forward. The pump is visible, but soon the vegetation around the pond will camouflage it pretty well. If there is any drawback it would be that the filter cannot be used in the colder winter months if there is a chance of freezing weather. This is a small trade off for having to clean my previous filter once a week or more in the summer. My expectations have been fully met. I like this product and would recommend it for any small pond.

I purchased this for a temporary setup for a 120gal tank with about five small koi in it. I primed the filter with Microbe-Lift PL1 and after about a week the water had cleared up, and the Ammonia and NO2 were reading 0

I shredded up some house sediment filter media as well just experimenting to get more surface and filtration.
