These work fine -though I haven't really tried anything else to compare them with since my updraft tube only fits these particular carbon cartridges. I usually rotate between the 2 cartridges that come in the pack. Between uses I put the dirty one in basically boiling water to disinfect it, then let it dry out completely and swap it out with the other one on my next tank cleaning. I've been able to do this 4-5x per cartridge so I'm not having to replace them as often. My goldfish have survived over 3 years with this method (and regular water changes, feeding, and so forth.)

Works pretty good, the packaging needs to be improved, at least more bubble wrap to protect them from getting crushed. All in all, they work great. I need to order some more, since my local pet stores do not carry them.
