An example would be Stress Coat which has binding sugar strands in the Aloe. This isn't a problem unless one of your fish has a small scratch or wound.The sugar feeds the bacteria which can lead to major infection and dire consequences.I've been using Amquel for years and it's a fine conditioner, excellent at removing chlorine, and Chloramines, but like all these products they come with limitations.
With one exception and that's Prime by Seachem.
Prime doesn't just remove the chlorine and Chloramine it does much more:
* Detoxifies any and all heavy metals in your tap water
(you can call your water company directly for a list of them and PPM)
* Neutralizes Ammonia
* Neutralizes Nitrite
* Neutralizes high Nitrate to non toxic levels
* Removes toxic gases
* Will not foam or change PH
* Helps regenerate natural slime coat
I bleach a lot of coral and Prime is indespensible in removing every trace of ammonia and caustic bleach it also cuts down the rinsing cycle by hours which saves a great deal of water while ensuring the safety of the fish. In addition to the outstanding, patented formula of Prime it couldn't be more economical to use. This 2 L bottle will treat a whopping 20,000 gallons of water. A tiny bit goes a long, long way.
It should also be noted that in times of emergency the dose can be increased five times, Prime is harmless to fish.It's the only product of it's kind, and towers above any other water treatment on the market. If your an aquarium hobbyist be it novice or advanced I would urge you to add a bottle of Prime to your arsenal of fish care products. Your finned friends will thank you for it.
Not to mention this is the best deal on Prime I've ever seen this usually sells for around $100 and of you're ordering online expect to pay around $14.95 for shipping. This is priced at 60% off and if you have a Prime Membership (Amazons Prime not the Seachem Prime) you get two day free shipping to boot.Treats 20,000 gallons.
Really.
What more needs to be said?
Well, I guess I can say it works perfectly, and I've never had unhappy fish in any of my tanks when doing water changes.

I love Prime. It is the best water conditioner out there. You get so much more for your money, especially when you buy the large size. I have a 180 gallon tank, two 55s and a number of smaller tanks and have only had to buy this one 2L bottle once while doing weekly, 80%+ water changes. I detoxifies ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Making it great for cycling and keeping your fish safe. It does get stinky though.I honestly will only ever buy Prime as my water conditioner.

If you want to treat your water for chlorine, chloramine, nitrites, Prime is the best.If you use API Ammonia test kit, you will get a false positive for ammonia!! Prime binds to ammonia and makes it non toxic so the bacteria in the tank can use it but it's harmless to the fish. API's test kit does not differentiate between bound ammonia and free ammonia and will give you a positive result which can cause issues.
Use Seachem's Multi-Test Ammonia to get a proper result for free and bound ammonia. There may be another test kit that will work You can do a bit of research to find one.
I have spoken to professionals, breeders, and I'm a member of an aquatic club that has a few professionals and they all use Prime...
If it's good enough (and recommended) by the experts, it's good enough for me.
Lastly, Seachem products in general seem to be a higher grade than others. I use their Excel, Flourish, Matrix, and Purigen. My experience is that they go out of their way to provide the best product they can.I think Prime is the best chlorinator out that and 2L will last me for ages. note: the picture shown is not the 2L bottle which is much larger.
