AQUARIUS AQB001 Aqua Bowl 1-Gallon Fish Bowl with Lighted Hood

AQUARIUS AQB001 Aqua Bowl 1-Gallon Fish Bowl with Lighted HoodI ordered this my first aquarium. First, it came with no light. The description says it comes with a light bulb. I have called the manufacturer, and will update after I talked to them. Second, it didn't say this is was only for one fish. I wish it has said that in the description. Thirdly, it looked really cheap..but I guess what did I expect for $15. Well, I did expect a light in it.

Update: I contacted the manufacturer and they promptly sent out the light socket assembly set for the fishbowl. They were very courteous and the fishbowl looks much better now with the light.

Fish Food - Tropical (Flake), 8.5 Oz.

Fish Food - Tropical, 8.5 Oz.I like the fact that this food comes in the larger size hard disk shaped flakes... Imagine small cornflakes. This enables you to either feed whole flakes, or break and crumble into smaller peices according to fish size. I feed this product to fish that range in size from golf ball sized goldfish to feeder guppies. What stands out to me about Aquadine is that I've witnessed fish that don't usually eat flake consume this readily. e.g. Black Ghost Knife. I'm glad I found it at such a good price, pet shops just aren't what they use to be.

Bought this product for my feeder guppies. But guess what!? It's not FLAKE food. It more like pelletized food only its disc shaped. Well I noticed in another review this was noted previously. Thats what I get for not reading the reviews!

TOM Mini Air Pump - 5gal to 10gal tank

TOM Mini Air Pump - 5gal to 10gal tankwith a bubble wand and it works great. The clear plastic covers on the bottoms legs are a nice addition. I think it does help in absorbing some of the noise, but for me it's still not quiet enough, and that's only because this tank is in my bedroom. At night, when it's quiet, it can be annoying, but during the day, I barely notice the sound.

UPDATE: 1/21/13

I changed my rating from 4 to 5, because it turns out that the noise was due to the fact that the airtube was too long. After shortening it so that it was just long enough, the air pump has been virtually silent. I am planning on getting another one for my other tank.

I purchased this item to divide my Bettas in my 2.5 gallon All Glass Aquarium. It comes with 2 glass dividers which surprised me because I was only expecting one and I also expected it to be acrylic or something cheap but it's glass. This item is great except for the fact that it has no holes for water flow. I plan on taking it to a glass cutter to get holes cut into it before I use it. Other than that it fits perfectly in the slots and is a great item.

With no holes for water to flow in and out, only the side of the tank with the filter in it is being filtered. RIDICULOUS! Not to mention betta's need 5 gals or more live happily and this divider suggests you put two or even THREE in one 2.5 gal tank!?! And that anyone not on the filter side sit in their own waste?! CRUEL! These fish come from rice paddies that, for the majority of the year, can be thousands of gallons! And they are naturally aerated. The myth they like tiny places is absolutely ridiculous.

110V 100W Watt Anti-Explosion Submersible Aquarium Fish Tank Water Heater

110V 100W Watt Anti-Explosion Submersible Aquarium Fish Tank Water HeaterThis is a great heater. I bought the 100 Watt version for my 20 gallon tank. The water temperature has been consistently heated to the desired temperature. It is pretty short; which is nice since I have a 20 gallon long tank. The heater suction cups and holder are very sturdy and secures nicely to the side of the tank.

There is only one drawback, the cord is short. This isn't a problem where my tank is located, but I know for others this could be a big problem. Luckily a short cord can be mediated with extension cables. Most people have an extra hanging out somewhere, so problem solved.

All in all, this is a great heater, especially for the price. I highly recommend this product!!! I give it 5 stars because I didn't find the short cord to be an issue.

This prodect does excellently for mixing saltwater. My 5gallon mixing tub is heated consistantly, and it hasn't blown up, boiled the water, or shut off so far! It is easily adjustable, and it works well for such a small amount of water.

The cord is short, but isn't a problem for me since my mixing tub is right next to the outlet. I can see this being a problem for others though.

After researching all over the internet for a good quality heater, this one actually works and does what it says.

thermostat doesn't work properly. i ran it for 12 hrs and it stayed at the temp i got it at.

when i got home, the temp was WAY high and i'm surprised my fish didn't die.

also 'crazy cart' sent the package to my STREET with no house number. item was almost sent back but i got ahold of USPS.

crazy cart would not take responsibility for their error.

one day later it exploded and got glass and god knows what inside the tank. temp also went super high.

my fish hasnt acted the same way since.

i examined the electrical components and it looks very poorly assembled.

it looks like water entered the heater and caused it to short out.

TOM TM1290 Aquarium Maintenance Easy Scrape-hand held algae scraper

TOM TM1290 Aquarium Maintenance Easy Scrape-hand held algae scraperI purchased this to use on my daughter's 5-gallon acrylic Marineland Hex Betta tank. Due to the tank's design, I expected the cleaning process to be more difficult than your average rectangular tank, but this scraper was pretty much useless. Only the extreme edges of this tool scraped any algae at all, and then in only microscopic quantities. A sheet of Bounty and some good old fashioned elbow grease, followed by five drops of algaecide, were much more effective. I plan sending this back. I think this tool is best used on glass tanks where it appears it works quite well.

I have never used a scraper to remove algae before; I've always relied on those magnetic scrubbers. Well I am sorry I didn't try this sooner. Really easy to use and most importantlyEFFECTIVE.

My only complaint is that I don't think the blade is perfectly straight, so I have to go over areas more than once. It's a minor flaw though.

I have a glass tank so I can't speak for the effectiveness of the acrylic scraper attachment.

Bought this to use on glass aquariums. Does not remove algae cleanly. Leaves streaks as though the blade (metal) is not completely flat. Better and faster to use a single edged razor blade and get my arm wet than to use this scraper. Would not buy again!

The blade is not sharp enough to remove much algae. Don't waste your money. I used to have a thin, long handled scraper with a single edge razor blade attached. That was great. They don't seem to make them anymore. I recently bought a long handled scraper but it has this same useless blade. I can't believe I've wasted my money on these items that don't serve their purpose.

Penn Plax Floating Aquarium Thermometer

Penn Plax Floating Aquarium ThermometerThis thermometer is excellent. It gives the correct temperature and its small so it doesnt take up too much space in the aquarium tank. I own a turtle, and when he is swimming he scrapes the sides of the tank. Sometimes he bumps into the thermometer, and it falls down. So that is why i didnt give this 5 stars because the suction cup isnt too strong.

Bought this along with a heater for my 5 gallon frog tank. The thermometer got here over a week after the heater came, even though i ordered at the same time. And now I am not sure it's working. I felt the water before the heater very cold. I felt the water 24 hours later after the heater much warmer. The thermometer never changed. If it were to work, it's small, grips to the side of the tank very easily.

Sturdy and adheres very well to the tank wall. The perfect size for a small tank while still being readable.

I purchased one of these to try with my strip temperature gauges on my 90 gallon saltwater reef system. Thankfully it was a cheap mistake.

The thermometer doesn't like to stick to the glass (which I cleaned very carefully to make sure there were no lingering algae deposits) and is easily knocked off by invertebrates and other creatures in your tank. Then you have to fish it out and stick it back up on the glass again.

It reads poorly compared to most strips; I compared it with them side by side to see if one was easier to read than the other. It also reads slower than strip thermometers (I tested it in an empty quarantine tank by raising the internal water temperature and the outside temperature strip registered the change faster).

I left it in the quarantine tank with normal reef salinity and gravity for a week and found it clouded. This is concerning if you are keeping coral as it could be leaking or subject to breaking in the tank. Not to be dissuaded that it might be one bad thermometer I purchased another and it suffered the same fate within the same time frame (it lasted a whole day longer).

I'm giving this a two star review because it may work in fresh water and be effective there but I wouldn't suggest it for a saltwater system. If you don't like thermometer strips you might as well spend the money on an expensive electronic reader that will also run a few of your tests for you.

PondCare AlgaeFix, 1 gallon

PondCare AlgaeFix, 1 gallonThis is a repeat order! We finally found something that will work in our large Koi Pond.

I've used this product for the last two years in our small pond. We have some pond plants and 15 gold fish in the pond. This product has really helped to control the algae growth. Instead of having to clean the pond pump about every day, I now only need to do that every other week or longer. I have not had any plants or fish die. We've simply followed the directions!

Had major string algae in my pond. Tried this product and within a week could see algae disappearing. Used weekly until most algae was gone and then just monthly. Did not harm my fish or plants. Honestly, I don't like the idea of having to use strong chemicals in my pond, however, the algae got so bad I had too. I did try other products (barley straw) which really did nothing.

I have a pond that is about 5 feet wide and 10 feet long, and averages 4 feet deep. It is in the hot, direct Florida sun all day long. Despite a good level of both surface and bottom plants, string algae was a big problem. Also, was cleaning the skimmer filter as often as daily. Tried another product, which didn't help at all. Was then told about Algaefix. Started using it as directed, and our problem improved dramatically within 1-2 weeks. Since the first month, I have uses a maintenance does of just under 1/2 cup each week (much less than weekly in the winter), and it keeps the string algae well under control. No adverse impacts on the plants (lilies, water lettuce, etc.) or the fish. Bought a gallon, and a year later, still have a good bit left. Highly recommended.

Como Aquarium Fish Tank Artificial Plastic Plant Ornament w Base

Como Aquarium Fish Tank Artificial Plastic Plant Ornament w BaseCame a day before its estimate which was good. Smelled very plasticy however so I washed it thoroughly. My betta seems to enjoy it though!

First impression: Just purchased this plant for my 2gal betta tank (Aqueon Evolve2 tank). It takes up about 1/6th of the overall space, leaving enough room for the betta to swim around, but also hide within its branches. Very pretty blue and purple colors under the white and blue tank lighting. Would highly recommend!

I cannot speak to the durability of the product, but off first impression I am very happy with the purchase.

Eshopps AEO11010 Overflow Boxes Pf-1000 for Aquarium Tanks

Eshopps AEO11010 Overflow Boxes Pf-1000 for Aquarium TanksIve heard that these U-tube type overflows don't flow as well as the cpr weir types, but to be honest 900 gph is 900 gph. This thing works wonderfully, it is well constructed out of thick acrylic and was an easy install. Ive been using it for 2 months straight now and have not had to re prime the u tubes at all. excelent system.

After fishkeeping for almost a decade, 8 of those years with saltwater, I decided to finally go the sump layout instead of canister filters and tons of other equipment in my tanks. Since I did not feel comfortable drilling my tanks, I decided this was the best route. When I got this in the mail I found the packaging decent. No broken items, no missing pieces. I found the instructions to be very lacking, and determined that this product was aimed for those that already knew what they were doing. After figuring out sort of what I was doing, I started to put it together on the tank, however was left with a few extra pieces compared to what the item looks like in the picture. I had an extra Utube, and these two pieces of sponge that did not look like they went anywhere. When it came to start the siphon, it was a pain in the butt. The only way I can think of doing it, is to insert a piece of small hose (like airline tubing) into the top of the U, place on the overflow, and suck the air out. When the air is removed it should start flowing on it's own. Pull out the hose WITHOUT lifting the U-tube or letting air back in, or you will have an air bubble trapped in the top of the tube, or break the siphon and have to start over again. I have tested the device against power and pump failures and this does a great job. If your power goes out, the siphon does stop, and will resume no problem when power is restored and the pump is back on.

The quality of the acrylic could be better.. I cracked the top of one of them when putting on the bulkhead and had very little pressure on it. I was able to fix it but was very disappointed when it happened as it set me back another day trying to get this setup running.

Also, please remember to use pipe dope on the bulkhead thread when assembling or you will have leaks.

Speaking of the bulkhead, since there were no specifications on how to go to the bulkhead (like what fits, what doesn't, etc) to the sump, I took one with me and headed over to home depot. Both me and the associate there were trying to find pieces that fit with no luck, until I was finally able to come up with a concoction of adapters, then used hose. After setting it up, I found out that I restricted the lines too much and had to dial down my return pump until I purchased new bulkheads. If I would have known ahead of time that regular 1'' PVC fit on the inside of that bulkhead I would have saved tons in various plumbing parts and headaches.

So, now it is up and running and working, I am pleased. However the lack of literature with the product really jaded my experience.

Pro's

-----

Does the job

Resumes nicely after pump/power failures

When tweaked it is pretty quiet

Came with extra parts for, well I don't know

Con's

------

Lack of literature, specifications, directions.

Weak acrylic

For what it is and the simplicity of it, price could reflect that a lot better

A lot of tweaking to get it running properly

Not really for beginners.

I am running a total of 4 of these on 2 of my larger tanks (180 w/75g fuge, and 220 w/55g fuge) and they work great! We've lost power a couple times and once the power comes back on they start right back up! Quality made, very good product, I recommend these overflows to those who don't want to drill their tank!!!

Read Best Reviews of Eshopps AEO11010 Overflow Boxes Pf-1000 for Aquarium Tanks Here

purchased for my 90 gallon tank, 1 of the U-tubes is nice and smooth and the other has bubbles on the inside from when it was heated and bent into a U, this makes those areas much weaker and doesn't allow for a perfect flow cause small bubbles get trapped there and then accumulate. Another problem is the cheap plastic screws that connect the inner overflow to the outer box, they easily strip when hand tightening which will cause the inner overflow box to either come up or down which will cause a catastrophe. The other problem I had was the noise, no matter what I did I couldn't get it to be quite, lots of gurgling sounds and lastly is there is no set up instructions. I rated a 2 because I know it could potentially be a good product but not without lots of tweaking and they have to improve the quality and add some instructions or even a link to a (how to) video. For now I'm not using it so it's just $70 bucks gathering dust.

Want Eshopps AEO11010 Overflow Boxes Pf-1000 for Aquarium Tanks Discount?

PROS: it does what it suppose to with quality materials. easy to install, worked like a charm!

Cons: the reason it was not 5 stars is that the holes in the black overflow box were just TOO big! my fish constantly swan in and died. Not just little fish, I lost a discus fish! I will have to mod the box to allow the water to flow, but prevent fish from going in.

Nina Ottosson DogFinder Interactive game

Nina Ottosson DogFinder Interactive gameI got this as a Christmas gift for my Shetland Sheepdog to keep him occupied and non-destructive. It took him about 20 minutes to get through all of the little sliders, but he figured it out all the same (box says it's a "difficult" level). He seems to enjoy it, and hasn't lost interest yet, but I had some pretty good cookies in there too. I'm so glad that it seems pretty sturdy (although he only weighs 25lbs), and the bones are too big for him to chew and swallow. Might be an issue for larger dogs that would have to be watched with it. One minor annoyance is that it takes a while to set up, because you have to remove and place back each bone one by one. I feel like I'M the one being trained! Nevertheless, I would highly recommend this for people with herding dogs that need some entertainment.

Fun and exciting for our great Danes. The plastic has held up well for many uses. I've found it is easiest to hold the puzzle on my lap while they play so that it doesnt get flipped over by their monster paws. Great buy.

Buy Nina Ottosson DogFinder Interactive game Now

I ordered this to add to my cat's growing collection of Nina Ottosson toys. It is easy to vary the challenge level of this game by using more/less of the bones, silding them over or not, etc. This is step up from the "Dog Brick" game-which the cat can solve really quickly now.

The only draw back are the gaps along each "bone channel", which design wise probably makes it easier for the pet to slide the bone to reveal the treatbut small treats or kibbles easily fall through the gaps. About half of treats end up underneath the puzzle as the bones are slid around. I am going to try to fasten mesh along the bottom to keep the treats in the channel and off the floorwhich should fix it, but I would prefer having a solid, gap-free puzzle.

Read Best Reviews of Nina Ottosson DogFinder Interactive game Here

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

1. Product slides on floor, maybe not so much on carpet. We have hard wood and the grips don't keep it in place well.

2. The plastic bones offer no real ability to grip, in case the dog primarily uses its mouth for this. My Pug uses her paws and is able to get them flipped up eventually, but my German Shepherd primarily uses his nose. Because GSD's noses angle down slightly from nose to bottom lip and the bones are so close together and have NO grip (slick plastic), he can't get them out. Simply putting a knob on them (like on a dresser) could have made a HUGE difference.

RARELY, if I only have a few bones in (and only one per slot, as one end of the slot is narrower, thus forcing the dog to figure out the puzzle by sliding the bone to the wider end to get it out) he can get one or two out.

My Pug is VERY treat motivated so she doesn't give up. My GSD either isn't as treat motivated or gets frustrated and gives up easily.

3. There are little slits/narrow "holes" on the sides of the slots where the bones slide in. The little treats get stuck in here sometimes and I have to pop them out to reward my Pug's efforts. Sometimes they slide between the slits and I have to pick the whole piece up so she can get the reward from under it.

4. It is annoying to assemble. As mentioned previously, the slots are narrower at one end. You have to remove each bone one at a time (can't just dump it upside down to load it up again [well, you can remove half this way, then slide the others to the wider end and dump upside down to remove the other half]) then set it back up one bone at a time. I realize it has to be done that way for the puzzle part of it to work, but it is very annoying.

Bottom line: I noticed several other people mentioned similar things and I wish I had listened. I basically wasted $20 on something I will not use again. I used plastic cups and hid treats under one and slowly moved them around and then had my dogs "pick" the correct one with better luck and less hassle, while still encouraging them to "think".

My GSD had more fun playing with the bones outside of the piece by sliding them across our hard wood floor than playing with this.\

Saw this: http://www.amazon.com/Nina-Ottosson-Dog-Treat-Fighter/dp/B000XPCSAM/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1342117552&sr=1-1, but after my lousy luck with the plastic one, I'm not dropping $50 on a potential dud.

Lee's Triple-Flow Corner Filter, Small

Lee's Triple-Flow Corner Filter, SmallI prefer this kind of filter, over the ones you have to buy the pads for. These dont require replacing charcoal every changing and also all you need to buy is a bag of cotton floss and a box of charcoal. Sometimes they tend to float, but I put some aquarium marbles in the bottom with the charcoal...problem solved. They both last a long time and together may cost about 10.00. When purchasing the filter pads they cost way over that amount and dont last nearly as long before having to buy more. More economical if you want to save money by buying these corner filters, floss, and charcoal...total maybe 15.00 (at least thats what I paid). Compared to buying a more popular filter that uses the replacement pads. The filtering system alone would cost that much if not more and then you still have to buy the filter pads, which are expensive. Your choice...but I prefer the economical way. They do a fabulous job in keeping the tank clean too.

I had not seen one of these for many, many years... but I thought it would be useful as an emergency filter for a small tank. I actually had a 10-gallon fry tank that suddenly cycled a few weeks later, so I added this to a spare airpump with a mesh bag of "nitrate sponge" and some nylon fiber and a filter pad... It helped stabilize the tank and save the fry. If you are someone who prepares for an emergency with your smaller fish tanks, this might be a useful purchase...

Buy Lee's Triple-Flow Corner Filter, Small Now

I needed to replace my 25 year old corner filter when it got damaged during a move. This one is made of plastic so thin that the bottom cracked when I pushed the filter pedestal into the gravel. The "grips" that are positioned to hold the air stone tubing in place do not have a central opening large enough to accommodate the tubing. If you try to press the air tubing into the center of the riser tube the prongs will break off. As a consequence the air stone floats out of the riser and the filter is useless. The unit should be fitted with a rigid tube attached to the riser such that the air stone can be held in place.

Other than the above mentioned quality and design problems, the filter functions as advertised and should be suitable for short term use until a better option becomes available.

I have 2 of these filters for a 29 gallon and they keep the water clear. I used Seachem Denitrate as well as filter floss and I have had no problems with water quality. The plastic seems a bit flimsy, as mentioned in the other reviews, but with a little care I have managed to avoid any cracks or damage.

The stems can be posed and bent any way so if viewed from just one side you can arrange that way. Love the lilly pad type look of these leaves and the dark green color.

The leaves on this plastic plant look very realistic. I bought this plant and plucked the leaves off so that they could float at the top of my fluval edge tank and provide my betta with some cover at the top of his tank. I have all live plants at the bottom of the tank and these floating at the top give the real ones a run for the money!
