BUT, it doesn't actually produce the fine bubbles that a stone does, and the smaller the bubbles, the better the gas exchange. API Saltwater Master Test Kit
I received my test kit in a timely manner only to find out that the solutions were outdated. For those that don't know on the API test kits each bottle has a lot number, the last 4 numbers correspond to the date of which they were bottled, so if the last four digits read 0607 then the solution was bottled on June of 2007. API says that their solutions are good for 3 years, I always change my kits out every year (better to be safe than sorry). My suggestion would be to not purchase these kinds of kits over the internet unless you know for sure that they are not outdated.
Expiration dates are perfect!!! not sure why some have complained about exp dates already expired, so they must have resolved that issue. My exp dates are 2016 and 2017, so great product on my end.
would recommend you buy a test tube holder. The case will work but it is easier to use if you have an actual holder. they sell them on amazon.

The test kit is very easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow. The only thing that you have to watch is when you are mixing the chemicals and the water in the test tube. If you leave the test tube upside down for a period of time, it will start leaking. If you do it quickly, there are no issues what-so-ever. The tests are accurate. I've used these tests when I initially set up my tanks and before I perform maintenance (change the water). I use this tester for both my reef tank and my seahorse tank. Shop around though. It usually reads the same amount of nitrates as my more expensive kit does. I cant verify for the others but it does allow me to see if there is a change happening in my tank I cant verify if all the numbers are correct but my nitrate test do show the same.Save 40% Off

These worked as desired in my 1/4-in air tubing; however, I had to take a razor and trim plastic tags that were left over from manufacturing. Not that big of deal, there it is.
That's just bad QC. Most of the valves I received weren't defective.
Of the working valves I received, I connected one to a deep water culture (for air bubbles) and the weight of the nutrient solution went right through the valve and backed up the airline (heading towards the air pump). Needless to say the air flow stopped. People use check valves so these kinds of things don't happen.
Also, the fittings on each side must be larger than 1/4", because these valves stretch out my 1/4" airline. After I was done with the valve, I had to cut off the small bit of connected airline because it was too stretched out to use (like throwing a hot dog down a hallway).
I didn't really know much about check valves when I ordered these, but it's been some time and I've tried different brands. These are my least favorite and I wouldn't order them again.

I ordered a bunch of these to keep on hand. Well, it appears that I only got 2 useful valves out of the entire bunch. When connected to the air pump, these valves whistle, loudly. Too bad as they are perfectly sized as opposed to some of the other check valves that are available.I'm not sure if was just bad luck but I will not chance reordering these.

This is EXACTLY what I wanted for the jungle ruins theme in my fish tank! I only have two very small complaints. 1) it's not as tall as I would like for my 29 gallon, but that was easily fixed by creating a sort of hill with my sand, and 2) like another reviewer stated, it needs suction cups or something in the back. It tips forward pretty easily, even after trying to "anchor" it down with sand. Penn Plax Medium Rialto Bridge From Penn Plax Fish Tank Ornament
My African clawed frogs just love hanging out in and under this aquarium ornament bridge. This bridge looks better than the pictures shown on line. It has a lot of detail that looks great and it really spruces up the aquarium.
The detail is lovely. The color is a dark great. I was hoping for more of a fairytale appearance, but I would say it's more gothic/industrial. I don't think it was intended to look that way, but to me it does. For the price I think it's a bit expensive and there are other better ornaments available. Size-wise it's great. The detail is beautiful. My fish really love it (and that's all that matters right?). It has an open feel yet also gives fish a place to feel they are hiding and safe. It's shadowey, yet kids can still look in and find fish if they look hard enough. Overall, a great peice. The picture doesn't really show the gothic sort of appearance, which came as a surprise to me when I recieved it. On the other hand, it would make a great addition to any fish-tank that is going for that style. I've actually grown quite fond of it. And all of the kids that are in and out of my livingroom stop to appreciate it. The boys think it's pretty cool. And my fish, well they seem pretty happy exploring it up and down and all around.

It's wonderful to be able to control the air flow, and works great....well made too and clamps nicely to the aquarium. We have a clam that opens when air bubbles fill the shell, and it was perfect for regulating the air, and regulating the airstones for the undergravel filter. Watching the bubbles is as good as watching the fish!

I have one of these for my 20 gallon and my 55 gallon tanks.... they are AWESOME.You cannot beat the value of this light. Many companies will sell the same thing for hundreds more. If you're on a budget, this is the thing.
The light fixture comes in different options. Be sure to match it to your needs. I'm freshwater, so no actinic. Mine has the grow light (pinkish), and the full spectrum (white/bluish). The color temperature etc. of this fixture is comparable to higher end setups, for much cheaper. I've been running the 55 gallon setup since I bought these, same with the 20 and haven't replaced a bulb once.
The power drain is minimal if you have em on a timer, and the output is great. There are, of course, better lights, but for the money, this is good for budget minded folks like me.
Little Giant 566535 Air Pump
This is not an inexpensive product, as aquarium air pumps go. I paid about $50 for it including shipping. It was the only pump I could find that I could attach an inlet tube to, in order to draw aquarium air from outside (I had lost my favorite fish to indoor air pollution when a floor was refinished). When new, the air output was adequate, but barely so. As time went by, this declined, until after 15 months air was barely dribbling out of the airstones. I thought the small foam filter at the outlet might be plugged, but removing it entirely did not improve performance. I then measured the output pressure with a gauge. It registered zero. In contrast, 3 Tetra air pumps I had that were much older (and cheaper) measured 0.75, 1.1, and 2.1 psi. I have figured out how to add an inlet tube to one of the Tetra pumps, and will go that route. Since the Little (VERY Little) Giant cannot be opened up to be serviced, it is now basically junk. There's a good grounded power cord I can salvage from it, but that's about it. My advice: don't buy this pump.

All of the pond advice says to have a pond heater/de-icer and aeration to maintain a hole in the ice for the fish. I live in Minnesota. Currently the temperature is -9 F with a predicted high of -3 and the wind chill is approaching -30 F. This is supposed to last for a few days...The de-icer is frozen in the pond, but the Little Giant submerged about 2 feet in the pond is blowing air and the ice has still has not completely frozen over above it. While I will not know if the fish make it until spring, I am completely satisfied with this air pump and next year, I will not be using the de-icing heater all I would take it out now, but it is frozen in place until the ice thaws.
When I set up the pump, I submerged it in the water and ran the air line under the deck near the house. I even placed a plastic cup around the open end of the air line to make sure no debris would clog the opening. This seems to be the key to operation in extreme cold temperatures: submerge the pump and protect the air line intake opening.

I bought this pump in 2011 and used it out of the water to pump air into my pond. The line froze during the winter of 2011 so in 2012 I put the pump in the water (this is an option per the pump instructions). Now the pump doesn't work at all. This is a great little starter aquarium. My son loves it! From the description I thought I needed to buy a pump and tubing for the aerating ornament; however, this was not the case. These items are included in the aquarium. We just had to buy the fish and food. Since it does not have a heater (and cautions against one since it's plastic) you cannot use tropical fish, but goldfish and danios will work. We bought 3 glofish, and they are beautiful.

Aqua Tech Fish Aquarium Magnetic Algae Remover
I bought this magnet at a big box store for about half the price Amazon sells it for. I figured if it didn't work, I wouldn't be out much money. I use it on the little patches of algae that show up in between major monthly cleanings and the more minor water changes I make. I have three fantail goldfish in a 20 gallon glass tank and algae can build up fast. This magnet works better than I expected. It wipes these spots away instantly and keeps the tank looking great! The other review noted it didn't work on acrylic but I can attest to it's effectiveness on glass. This would not be the appropriate method to clean a lot of algae or thicker algae, as that speaks to a different issue that likely is due simply to poor maintenance or even an ill fish. But for "spot cleaning" I would definitely recommend this. Plus it is intriguing enough and simple enough for my young children to want to take part. I just set up the inner magnet and they drag it around with the outer and their hands get nowhere near the water. Definitely has my positive recommendation!

Really great product, removes algae from the glass very efficiently, without having to wet your arms and the floor around the tank! the magnet is extremely strong, even if the inside part is away from the glass, once you approach the outside part to the glass, the inside part comes right away!Just beware if you have very fine substrate, because if you get very close to the bottom, some of the substrate can get caught in the scrub and before you know it, you got a big scratch in your glass!
The floating magnet is a two part gadget that uses magnets to keep a "handle" piece attached on the outside of the aquarium as the "scrub" piece is on the inside part of the glass--sliding the handle back-and-forth scrubs the sediment. Separating the pieces leaves the scrub part floating. The surface of the pieces is smooth so that it does not pull things or damage plants and fish.
I really like when a product meets expectations, working exactly as advertised, and this is it.
There is, however, something to note and the reason why I do not consider it perfect. The color is light-gray, and since it sits inside the aquarium, it does not blend well. This is strickly a matter of taste, but worth mentioning.
Overall, a great product, and a permanent addition in my shopping list when setting up an aquarium.

Remember the old days of lumbering to clean the glass of your tank? You had to buy a special extended length algae scraper which didn't work well so you had to stick your hand into the tank and scrub the sides with an algae pad. After you were done, you had to stand there with a soaking arm mumbling how sucky it was to clean algae.Then came the magnetic scrubber. It was a definite improvement, except that the scrubber would separate on the inside of the tank and fall to the bottom just out of the magnetic force-field's range. This would require you to stick your hand into the tank and put the scrubber back together, leaving you standing there with a soaking arm thinking how cleaning algae was still kinda sucky.
Then came the Mag Float Magnetic Cleaner.
I first encountered this item at a local fish store when the shop keeper scrubbed the front of the tank of the fish I was going to buy. As is the case with magnetic scrubbers, the scrubber separated. But as is the case with the Mag Float, the scrubber floated to the top of the tank where it could be easily reattached without getting the hands wet. I chose to spend my money on the Mag Float rather than the fish.
That was about a decade ago and I have always had a Mag Float for every tank I have ever kept since then (which has been alot of tanks). This item is an absolute necessity for the discerning fish keeper. Are there other things that can do the job? Yes. Are there other items that work as well as the Mag Float? No.
Coming from a man that has been joyfully learning about aquariums and keeping fish for fifteen wonderful years, spend the extra money and get a Mag Float, you won't be disappointed.
P.S. get the size bigger than your recommended size, it is worth it. Acrylic tank owners beware, these guys can really do some serious scratching.

I just got this today and tested it out on my tank which had a buildup of algae on the glass. The magnets are STRONG and quick and got my fingers almost a dozen times in that many minutes. The glass does look better (could be better but it works better than a scrub brush), but then maybe it's more noticeable if you have REALLY bad algae problems, I mean if your tank is downright filthy. Mine is noticeable (clear water but the glass makes it look cloudy) but not awful. After using the magnet I did a 30% water change and wiped the inside of the tank with a paper towel there was still some algae on the tissue so this definitely does not get it all. One thing I don't like is how it scraped at the silicone holding the tank together (made an awful scratchy noise, and no there was no gravel in the way, it only did it when I wiped near each of the 4 corners), so I am going to try not to go near the corners with it in the future!** Also, it says on the packaging NOT to use it if you have a PACEMAKER. I do not but I can't believe it did not mention this on the product page people with pacemakers are not exactly uncommon. ***

Java Fern "Large Mat" Live Aquarium Plant Microsorum pteropus
This java came in a little over grown to the point that it was growing on its own leaves. But! This was a HUGE and very healthy mat! I had so much left over I went ahead and set up another aquarium! The root was healthy nice and green! They come on a coco fiber mat that can be a little hard to tweese out but is probably best left on and then tethered to whatever you want it to grow on. Again, awesome mat, looks just like the picture only twice as big! Keep in mind too order in the cooler months to save the plant some black spots. Very very well packaged and came in great condition. Would and probably will order again :)

These seem like they would have been amazing specimens, but they did not travel well from the West coast. When I received them, (in MA) they were covered in black spots apparently from heat damage sustained in transit. I will say that the seller was very, very cooperative & immediately issued me a full return. If you live closer to CA or are planning to order these in any other season except winter or summer, I would say go for it.-Ben

A long time hobbyist of 35+ years it seems the battle against Algae is one that will rage on indefinitely. This scrubber is excellent. Thick and coarse spun nylon makes removal of both green and brown algae as effortless as it can be. The scrubber is perfect for the sides and bottom and equally effective in edges for corners and those hard to reach places.Acrylic tanks are gorgeous but as you already know they scratch easily I've never had a problem using these, just always make sure to never use the pad on dry acrylic above the water line.
A few of my tanks get indirect sunlight so for those it's a weekly effort and I keep lots of these and the smaller single pads on hand, It's important especially if you keep a variety of different species in separate aquariums to avoid cross contamination and the Lee's line of scrubbers for both glass and acrylic are affordable enough for each tank to have a dedicated set.
Cross contamination has long been linked to toxic tank syndrome which can wipe out your tank in 24 hours, so best to have gear that's dedicated to one specific tank.
