Coralife 05495 Actinic Square Pin Compact Fluorescent Lamp, 96-Watt

Coralife 05495 Actinic Square Pin Compact Fluorescent Lamp, 96-WattWhen I started to use these as a boots to the growth of my vegetation, I didn't realize that it could help that much. I had all kinds of algae growth in the tank.

Let me 1st start off by saying techically the light is a 5 start product! I have NO problem with the light, works perfect with my MH fixture. The low stars are because the person(s) who is packaging these puts the light in a long box, tapes it, and shipped it, WITHOUT ANY packaging material (no paper, no foam, etc.). Of course, when you ship a light bulb without any 'cushioning' it arrives broken in pieces. My order was for ONE bulb, but they had to re-ship it 4 TIMES because it kept showing up broken because none of the packages contained packaging.

1st buld shattered NO packaging (amazon re-shipped)

2nd bulb shattered NO packaging (amazon re-shipped)

3rd bulb shattered NO packaging (amazon re-shipped)

4th bulb arriced undamged still NO packaging (LUCKY)

I'm a prime member so all these were shipped 2nd day so this process took a little over a week to finally get a undamaged one. However, if you are a normal member and pick the free shipping and keep getting broken lights this could be a month process (depending on what Amazon would do for you) I provided feedback on the shipping (lack of packaging) on every light but it did not make a difference. I even called Amazon (reps were great), but they said it would take a couple weeks for them to make contact with the warehouse to straighten it out.

I hope Amazon has or will correct this issue soon as they light is great and at a great price. If Amazon address this issue (and lets me know) I will be more than happy to up my stars to 5 for the actual product.

AquaClock Wall Aquarium

AquaClock Wall Aquarium, BlackThis is a terrible "home" for a betta. The general public is terribly misinformed about this fish's care and requirements. Here are the problems with this setup:

1. Bettas need to be fed more than just 2 or 3 times a week.

2. Too small! Not only does the fish not have any room to swim in, in a container of this size ammonia (toxic fish byproduct) will build up within hours. Daily water changes will be needed to keep the water safe. Not to mention that in this thing the temperature could wildly fluctuate. Bettas are tropical fish and need to be kept at a constant 78-80*F. A recommended setup for this fish is a 3+ gallon filtered, heated, and decorated home.

3. No decoratons Betta fish (and most other fish) need hiding sports to feel secure. This provides absolutely nothing.

The only reason this is The world's only clock that is a fish tank is because it is a stupid idea. Paying $70 for this is ridiculous. For the same price you could buy and decorate a much bigger, more beautiful tank. Buy this only if you want to kill your fish.

Please disregard the reviewer who wrote the glowing review about this product. This clock/tank is not a proper tank for even sea monkeys, let alone a betta fish. First of all, a half gallon tank is not proper housing for a betta fish unless it is to place him in something when you make water changes. Secondly the tank does not allow you to put a heater in it. Bettas requires to be in heated water somewhere between 75 to 80 degrees. Finally, bettas love to swim in and around plants and ornaments. Another thing is water changes. Betta fishes are sensitive to ammonia in the water. With a half gallon tank, a person would have to make daily water changes, no if's, and's, or but's about it. Bettas require to be in clean water. There is no place to put anything for the fish to keep busy or hide in case he or she feels insecure and shy. For $70 you can get a 10 gallon aquarium kit and an adjustable heater. Or if you are super cheap, get a medium/large Kritter Keeper and an adjustable heater, and make water changes every 2 to 3 days if the Kritter Keeper is unfiltered. Either way both options are better,so avoid this stupid AquaClock like the plague. This is a bad design all around. The company who makes it is just profiting off bad information about caring for betta fishes.

This is really terrible. Betta fish require AT LEAST 2 gallons of water(that need to be 72-84 degrees and conditioned). Yes, the fish can survive in these conditions for an amount of time, but you will have a piece of animal torture hanging on your wall.

RESEARCH! Before buying ANY animal. These fish actually AREN'T "puddle" fish.

The only type of fish that should be kept in a clock like this are plastic toy fish. Nothing can live and thrive in something like this. If you buy this, and put a live fish in it, you are practicing animal cruelty.

This is SICK! S-I-C-K. This contains less then a 1/2 gallon of water. That's half a milk jug! But it's even worse then just putting a betta in half a milk jug because in here there is NO room for decoration or plants, or even swim space and theres barely space to SWIM AROUND. ITS SICK. Go out and spend your freaking 70 dollars on a 10 gallon, 5 gallon, or even a 2.5 gal tank at freaking petco! Buying this is equivelant to taking your betta and throwing it on the ground and watching it die.

Jardin Aquarium Fish Tank Diffuser Bubble Wall with Suction Cup, 23-Inch, Green

Jardin Aquarium Fish Tank Diffuser Bubble Wall with Suction Cup, 23-Inch, GreenOnly one side of this actually worked well. The other side had a few random bubbles coming out but nothing like the side closest to the air hose. I ended up moving the cap to the first section and just using it. It looks pretty like this and I don't have to worry about it coming apart. I should have just purchased the 12" one.

I looked all over the Permian Basin for this and was thrilled to find it. It arrived so fast I was surprised by my delivery. The fish love swimming in the bubbles and think they can hide behind them. It adds a beautiful feature to my aquarium.

These normally work good but mine came bent in one of the sections which stopped the bubbles from going all the way across.

Hydor HYDROSET Electronic Thermostat with Display

Hydor HYDROSET Electronic Thermostat with DisplayI have a Hydor ETH-300 hooked up to this Hydroset in my 90g male Peacock Cichlid tank. The ETH-300 is plumed inline to a Fluval FX5 using some 1" x 5/8" barbs that I found online. Ive been using it for almost a year this January and it works great, keeps a steady temperature. Like the other reviewer it does click but it doesnt bother me and in my case it doesnt click back on immediately. I guess it depends on the size of your tank and the temp of your house. I keep my house at a steady 72° and my tank between 79°-80°. Plus I like that it clicks, at least I know its working. :)

No complaints here....

The digital controller is decent enough, but when the set temperature is reached, the damn thing clicks. It is likely because, once the temperature is reached it turns off, seconds later the water is cooler and it turns on again. They really should put a timer on this thing so that it does not attempt to turn on right away after the temperature is reached.

Have a pen light ready to read the temps. Would be great with a cheap led backlight. Poor for the price.

HDE LCD Fish Tank Thermometer

HDE LCD Fish Tank ThermometerI saw this thermometer going for $1.00 plus about $2.50 shipping on a popular bidding website. I didn't really trust it to be a real thermometer at that price. So, I looked it up on Amazon.com. For the less than $6.00 including shipping, I decide to pay a couple of bucks more from Amazon and try it. It came in the mail this afternoon.

When I pulled the thermometer out of the package it was set to Celsius. I switched it over to Fahrenheit and it began reading about 82º in my house. I know the air temperature is around 76º. I waited for five minutes as it drifted further and further down but it never got down to what I believe the temperature actually is. It settled in around 78º. I figured a 2º variance isn't bad. Then, I put it in the fish tank. It immediately dropped down to what I believe the temperature of the tank is, according to the cheap floating thermometer I have in the tank. Given that it's designed to read water temperature, that was good enough for me.

I put it on the tank I plan to use it on and I'm looking at it now. The suction cups are powerful, one for the probe and one to attach the thermometer to the tank. I like the digital read out because it's much easier to read than the colored water in the analog thermometers. I can glance at it from a distance and know the temperature of the tank. Not such a big deal right now in summer. But, it'll be great to know in the winter. I now trust that it's fairly accurateaccurate enough anyway.

There's an on-/off switch on it. I'm not sure that's necessary. These type of devices should run a long time on the watch battery it runs on. The battery is replaceable. Turning it off is difficult. The switch recesses and has to be pressed way in and held in to shut it off. At first I thought the switch was broken. But, I used a pen and held it in and it went off. Turning it on was much easier. There's no risk of turning it off accidentally.

I'll report back if/when it breaks. I think with things like this if they work out of the box, they'll work for a while. There are no moving parts. So, I think this is a great deal. It's got to be as accurate as the $3-$4 floating devices you buy at the Local Fish Store. And, if you want, you can hide the display completely, camouflage the probe and make it virtually invisible.

**update**It's been over six months since I bought the first of these. I now have four on four different tanks. They have been rock solid reliable and the temperature reading seems to be accurate matching the set point on my heaters. I am extremely happy with these thermometers.

After getting tired of squinting my eyes to see the temperature of my alcohol thermometer in my reef tank I decided to try a digital version. Like the other reviewer mentioned my digital LCD thermometer arrived in the mail with the power turned on. No big deal. I wish the suction cup holding the probe was black instead of clear like the other reviewer mentioned because a clear suction cup submerged under water appears white. No big deal for me either as I hid my thermometer probe & suction cup behind some live rocks. So far everything works great as I just turn my LCD thermometer on occasionally to check the temperature of my reef tank & then turn it off. Sometimes I just leave it on longer as I still maintain my alcohol thermometer on the other side of the aquarium that I can occasionally still read when it isn't covered by algae. Occasionally I noticed that the thermometer turns on by itself, but that is no big deal to me. Recommended as it generally works great & you can't beat the price considering most digital aquarium thermometers that I see in local stores costs so much more.

Update 4-2-13. I been leaving my LCD thermostat with the power on for the last month & had no problems with it so far. No problems with it turning off by itself. Been so reliable that I removed my standing thermometer.

This thermometer shipped fast and works great! I was recently at a local pet store and the same thermometer was double the price. I would recommend buying it.

I guess I got a defective one. It's stuck with a reading H (degree symbol) F. Tried powering off and on to no avail. Also, impossible to take battery out. Didn't work for me so I can't recommend it.

The HDE aquarium thermometer fluctuates too much to be of any use. The temperature updates about every 30 seconds. Mine has varied from 64 degrees to 110 degrees (really?) within a matter of minutes. In this case, the old adage applies...you get what you pay for.

Vibra-Flo® Air Pump; Mini

Vibra-Flo® Air Pump; MiniI'm using it in a 10 gallon tank and it perfectly fulfills its purpose. It aerates the tank, but doesn't create too much of a current which was my intent. With bigger, stronger pumps the current was bubbling too much like boiling water. Regarding the noise it's like any other pump. I've never had one that's quiet. However, I haven't had this pump long enough to evaluate it's endurance over a long time.

I bought this as a replacement for my broken Tetra Whisper air pump, and this does a great job. I have a 1 1/2 gallon tank and this pump is not too strong, yet it does the job really well! It's REALLY quiet too! :) 5 stars for a great product!!

The only good things that I can say about this pump is that it looks nice and it's small in size. However, it sounds like a truck. It is so loud that while on the first floor of the house, you can still hear it on the second floor with the door closed. Compared to my boyfriends Tetra Whisper 100, this pump is very distracting and atleast 10 times louder.

This pump is a dream! It's so quiet compared to our last pump; I don't even notice it's there! It has great output, too, this is perfect for our little tank.

Exotic Environments Split Shipwreck Aquarium Ornament, Large, 11-Inch by 5-Inch by 4-1/4-Inch

Exotic Environments Split Shipwreck Aquarium Ornament, Large, 11-Inch by 5-Inch by 4-1/4-InchThis ornament looks a lot better in the picture than it does in person. The green is kinda ugly in person compared to what it looks like online. Its more of a dark grayish-green. The ship and everything else is also not as colorful as in the picture but the shipwreck still has great detail to it, just in darker colors. I like the ornament but I wish they would use a truer picture for it.

1st, this is not a "Large" Aquarium piece at all. 2nd, the measurements are more like 10.5"x3"x4 1/4", and 3rd, the coloring is NOTHING like the photo. The "Rum" words are barely made out, the green is very dark, not light, and the overall painting is dark and dismal, not that of any aquarium piece. I feel very taken by this listing, and am glad to be able to return. I would in no way recommend this unless you have a small aquarium, 10 gallons or less, and do not like color involved.

Coralife 05376 Aqualight Dual Power Compact Flourescent Lighting Fixture

Coralife 05376 Aqualight Dual Power Compact Flourescent Lighting Fixturefirst off, there is a Freshwater version which includes 2 6500k bulbs vs the marine model that comes with the actinic the previous reviewer didn't sniff around!

i have a FW planted tank, the coverage is good, the lights are bright (not sure of the quality) and easy to set up.

cons:

1. only 1 plug for both lights. not a big deal, but if you have an algae problem, sometimes lessening wattage can help but turning off bulb. there are switches though, so i guess that would work.

2. No fan switches. the fans are mildly loud brand new, and i guarantee you after a couple of months they will start howling.

3. end caps are NOT water proof, or even water-resistant for that matter. really strange to not include this feature. sure it comes with a replaceable acrylic cover, but to think its not in a humid environment is ignorant. no way would i put this on a marine tank.

Received the light in good shape, but wish that amazon had recommended that I purchase the optional legs ($8) to be able to mount it on top of my 46 gal bowfront tank. Also realized that it should have clearly stated that this lighting configuration is for saltwater aquariums, NOT freshwater. Good general design, although I'm not sure why the fan is only connected to one of the two light switches?? Doesn't seem to be a problem so far... we'll see whether the bulb life is impacted. Had it for a bit more than 2 months with no problems, other than needing to swap out the actinic bulb for a 55 watt daylight (6700 K) bulb. Plants none the worse for the experience, but the algae got a bit out of control as a result. (Hint: both 55 watt and 65 watt straight 4 pin bulbs will work in this fixture.) It can be used for freshwater, but you need to change the bulb that's included.
