I have a lot of experience with filters and fish. I usually use a canister filter system but this time I had a small (20gallon) fish tank so I decided to just use a Hang-on-tank filter. I went through about 4 of the crappy filters with the spinning wheel and where you load cartidges from the top. They are horrible and costly. This filter works perfect and is a true (small version) canister filter. You can setup your own media the way you like it. Buy this and do research on how to properly setup media in a canister filter and you will never have a dirty tank. Of course, make sure you are using it with the right size tankRead Best Reviews of Aquatop Red Devil Hang-On Canister Filter RD-30G Here
I got this filter quicker than it said it would arrive. It came with everything, no need to buy any filter media. I am using it on a 15 gallon nano reef and it has been working very well. It is easy to use and set up, unlike other canister filters. It is a great price too. I would recommend to others looking for a nice and efficient filter.Want Aquatop Red Devil Hang-On Canister Filter RD-30G Discount?

Works as stated. Plastic is not the strongest but shouldn't break that easy. Only problem for me is that the siphon is only as fast as the faucet. Basically if the faucet is not on all the way the siphon will not be as strong. So of you pay for water that's a lot of money down the drain. This gravel looks great in my betta's 5 gallon "natural" aquarium, though I bought the 5 lb size. It is much lighter and much more attractive (in my opinion) than the standard Petco River Rock Shallow Creek Aquarium Gravel, 20 lbs.. I find the River Rock one to be too dark and, frankly, ugly. The size is great and perfect for the roots of my Anubias. The light color accentuates the colors of my fish and decor.Read Best Reviews of Petco Snowy River Aquarium Gravel, 20 lbs. Here
Aqueon LED Aquarium Light Fixture, 36-Inch
Edit: Correct size arrived, the light output is AMAZING! Don't waste your time on Marineland LED fixtures! This is more bang for the same cost, and you can change the LED strips yourself which you can't do with marineland!
I should note that I have 2 light strips in it currently, it comes with one and supports 3, so be aware of this. The initial light output is still more amazing than marinelands which has no support for extra lights. Be sure to pick up 2 more tubes of lights if you want the max light output, but you wont be disappointed with the initial light output. It took 3 shipments but once were able to install this light we loved it (the first two arrived damaged but thanks to Amazon's easy return/replacement process we were finally able to get a good one!)!
It is very bright on the standard setting, and shines a softer bluish light for the night-light setting. It fits perfectly on our aquarium and shines a very clear/white light it isn't yellowish or "dingy" looking like some other aquarium lights can be.
The operation is simple enough that our 10 & 5 year old are both able to turn it on/off but it is not so flimsy that it can be accidentally turned on/off.
We now have very happy fish!

No problems with the set up. I have a 125 gal aquarium that is 72in long so I purchased two lights. As usual LEDs produce a brilliant white light that shows all the details. I use the moonlight feature along with a 14in blue LED light/air stone to create a beautiful night sence in my tank. I have been interested in LED lighting for my aquariums for some time. Most are more expensiove than I would like. This one from Aqueon was just right for my budget. But beyond cost, it provides plenty of light in a pleasing color for my 65 gal aquarium and the the moonglow lights are a special treat. As soon as I want to afford it, I will be buying the size that will fit my 37 gal aquarium. I recommend this product whoelheartedly.Want Aqueon LED Aquarium Light Fixture, 36-Inch Discount?
I am an aquarist with 5 large (>40 gallon) tanks with live plants. I grew weary of dealing with annual bulb changes and electric bills. I began researching LED lights as an alternative. The general principle is that they work well but are expensive. Then I found this light. It represents Aqueon's foray into the "moderately priced" LED market. A great priceyou get the fixture and one white bulb, but you can order two more to increase light intensity or enhance color. There was little or no information available on which bulb was correct for plants, or indeed if any of them were, but I decided to take a chance and ordered one, with two bulbs from a different supplier so I could have a "high-light" tank. This is where the fun began.First, the fixture is actually quite nice and the single white bulb DOES allow plants to grow. They are growing slowly, but to be fair the tank is young and it sometimes takes a while for new plants to develop root systems before they take off and you spend every saturday morning trimming, and then every saturday afternoon running bags to whatever pet store wants them in exchange for credit that when you consider the gas you burned allows you to lose only slightly less money than you would have. Nice quality for the money, which is typical of Aqueon products. Not top of the line, but they work and a are a good choice if you make less than 250K a year. And the night lights are beyond cute and my corys seem to love them.
Now for the nightmare. The first bulbs arrived from a different supplier and were poorly packed and smashed to bits. The supplier was helpful and responsive, although I waited two weeks for their shipment to come in. The second replacement shipment arrived in a giant tube that was so large and so padded that they could have included an Ohio-class nuclear submarine in with the bulbs. These too were smashed beyond recognition. Clearly, the bulbs had been damaged prior to shipping.
I canceled the order and requested a refund. I am sure they are working on it. More googling revealed a rumor that Petsmart had purchased Aqueon. I liked Petsmart, except for the one time when we were there someone dumped a pit bull mix puppy in the parking lot and the manager begged for all customers to help catch it, and my daughter was the one it ran to and then it became one of those "oh s***, we now have a puppy" moments. To their credit they gave us a free vet checkup, food, and some toys for taking it home. And the pupply did turn out to be a great dog except for her eardrum splitting bark and a tail like a scythe that could clear a table full of stuff in a nanosecond. And she had prickly fur too. And she ruled the house for the next 14 years. But I digress. I figured that if Petsmart had in fact purchased Aqueon, then they were the logical people to call to find a bulb for the fixture that they were now manufacturing. Alas, a mumbling voice on the phone informed me that my 36 inch fixture had been discontinued. Back to the internet where a second bulb is now on order from a different supplier. I hope that I get one in time before the entire line is discontinued. If indeed that is true.
Aqueondecide what you are manufacturing and what you are not. Communicate this with suppliers. Find out why the bulbs are so impossible to find, why the supply is so minimal, and who is smashing them to bits. Do some research so people with just fish, fish with plants, and marine folks can make the correct choice without guessing. Include two bulbs with the fixture even if you have to raise the price a bit. Or make it an option. Research manufacturing specific bulbs with specific spectrums for different applications. Solve the bulb problem, and you will sell a zillion of these because they have the potential to be the only decently priced LED fixture on the market. And one that is of very nice quality for the price.
External / Hang On Plastic Aquarium Fish Breeding Box Satellite L (new)
I purchased both products, thinking this was the 1.5 gallon version, but it is not.....my mistake. The Marina product is $21(including shipping with my Prime act), received in 3 days. This version is $36(including shipping-not available for Prime), and it took 15 days because it comes from China. I own several Breeders/refugium HOB units. This is a Good product, it's just small...even though it's the Large version. I breed Mollies and False Percula Clowns. I was hoping to use it as a refugium HOB....which this is too small for that.

Eshopps RS-200 Reef Sump - 125 to 225 gallons - 30 in. x 12 in. x 16 in.
The water level lines that come on the sump will not be accurate if you have to raise up your protein skimmer (like I did), but besides that, it's a very simple design to work with. I do wish the filter socks were easier to remove (in my case, they are very difficult to remove at times because I have to slip a piece of PVC pipe into the drain bulkhead AFTER/WHILE I reinstall the filter sock (after washing it). The reason I have the extended PVC pipe going from the bulkhead into the water is so that the sump doesn't make so much water splashing noise when it is running. I'm sure with a little modification, this could become easier, so it isn't a deal-breaker when evaluating the sump. To keep things "in the family", I purchased the Eshopps PF-1200 Overflow Box Up to 300 gal. to go with this sump and EVERYTHING connects together very nicely.
In terms of durability, it is constructed very nicely and packaged very safely from the factory. The seams are all very nicely glued together and I have never had a leak in the past 6 months since I set it up.
All-in-all, it's a very nice sump, with exception to the filter sock frame design and the water splashing that comes from the factory drain setup. If you don't mind cutting a few pieces of PVC to quiet down your drains, this is the sump for you.

Hydro IV Sponge Pro Filter - Up to 80 gallons
Due to the circumstances described above, I decided to install two Hydro IV sponge filters in my goldfish tank to increase biological filtration. I needed something reliable and simple that would work, no matter what. As all fish enthusiasts know, biological filtration is the most important type of filtration in any tank, and using a sponge filter is the best way to establish a good bio-filter, especially when your tank exceeds its recommended bio-load.
I run mine in the simple way, with airstones, using a Tetra 77855 air pump. I have been running these for over a month now, and my fish and I have been quite pleased with the results. The water in my tank actually seems cleaner and clearer, and there are no expensive cartridges or parts to replace. It's no wonder most pet stores don't sell these as they are so economical. As long as you rinse them once a month, you never have to replace them, and there are no complicated parts. I rinse mine in a bucket of used water from my aquarium every month, and that's all there is to it. Even though my bio-load is too high, I must say my water quality is excellent, and I have a healthy, happy tank. Even my apple snails are happier. They like to crawl on the sponge, eating any particles of algae or food that get trapped in the outside.
One more benefit of having this type of filter is that it can help quickly cycle a new tank. I have a 40-long tank that formerly housed some mollies. I did a complete water change to prepare the tank to house two black moors, and I needed to cycle it. I squeezed water from my sponges as a source of bacteria, and I put this in my new tank, eventually trading one of my 'dirty' sponges with a new one to more quickly establish the new tank. After trading filter cartridges and bio-wheels in my Penguins and waiting a week, I found no ammonia or nitrites in my tank, and it was ready for the moors. I could have never done this without the quality bio-filtration that these filters provide. I now plan to install Hydro Pro sponge filters in every tank.I've used sponge filters in the past to polish aquarium water and keep baby fry from being gobbled up by the normal filtration. This Hydro IV works great and the design makes it easy to clean.

Most aquarium filters now use a motor to force water through some kind of filter pad which must be replaced at intervals. However, before there were reliably sealed electric motors, most home aquariums moved water using the "airlift" principle, in which a rising column of bubbles pulled water through the filtering material. This is an elegant and just about failsafe method. Debris in the tank cannot ever jam the external air pump which feeds the filter, and if electricity is interrupted, the filter cannot lose siphon, it simply starts bubbling again when power is restored to the air pump. Many fish love to play in the rising stream of bubbles.Hydro Sponge filters, first marketed in the 1990's, are a more recent application of the airlift. Hydro Sponge IV is intended for tanks up to 80 gallons. Made of dense, strong plastic with a weighted base which holds the sponge up away from the aquarium bottom, they dismantle easily for cleaning of the sponge. The pores within the sponge provides an enormous surface area for colonization by beneficial bacteria providing very thorough biological filtration. They can be powered by an air pump with or without an airstone (using an airstone will give finer bubbles and make less noise), or with an electric powerhead for those with larger tanks or who simply feel the need for more energetic water movement.
It is difficult to imagine such a simple device working well. Surprisingly, they are excellent, and can be used as the only filter in the tank for many applications. I've used them on tanks sized from 10 gallons up to 75 gallons, always with good results. The local fish store where I shop has an expensive trickle filter for their dozens of tanks, and every single freshwater tank also has a Hyrdo Sponge or similar sponge filter as well. Apparantly the sponge is doing something which the trickle filter doesn't?
Maintainence is as simple as the filter. When you perform your periodic aquarium water change, (20% every week) save some of the old water in a bucket. Separate the top and bottom parts of the filter and remove the sponge from the tank. Squeeze it out in the bucket. See all the stuff which the sponge removed from the water? Reinstall the sponge and refill your tank. Go have dinner with the money you saved not purchasing replacement filter cartridges.
In sum, a clever and elegantly simple device which works very well.

I use these in all my fish tanks. Very affordable, excellent filtration. The "Pro" series lasts alot longer and filters better.Want Hydro IV Sponge Pro Filter - Up to 80 gallons Discount?
The sponge material used on these is extremely inferior. It loses its shape and tight fit around the lift tube fairly rapidly from cleanings. The pore size isn't really ideal for most common applications, it should be larger for better flow and less clogging. Most don't need a fry safe size, if you do it's something you use only as long as needed since a larger pore is more effective. The pedestal base is also a poor designsponge filters are generally better set directly on the bottom, or even partly buried into the substrate. For the size, there really isn't that much sponge for bio-filtration, an awful lot of it is the unnecessarily bulky plastic pedestal. The extra wide lift tube really isn't an asset, sponge filters are much more effective with only a low to moderate flow ratea faster rate is counterproductive.EDIT:I do see from the description the "pro" line now claims to use a reticulated spongewhether or not this is actually different or better than the ones I have owned I'm not certain, but it may address some of the earlier problems. I still feel it is a 1 star product due to the other issues, as well as the exorbitant pricemuch better filters can be purchased at half or less.

I bought the large 10 oz tube to fill in some hollow decorations so I wouldn't need to worry about cleaning the interior surfaces. It has worked great for this purpose. It does have a strong vinegar smell to it, and the big tube requires a caulk gun to dispense it. Wear latex gloves when using to prevent getting any on your skin, but if you do I found that Clorox wipes remove it easily off of skin and surfaces. Water doesn't really cut it. If you do use this to fill decorations remember the decorations will FLOAT unless you put some weight inside. I used this to assemble a reef tank sump. It works perfect and is MUCH better then the GE1 sold at Home Depot. It even "smells" better. It sets up nice and firm as soon as you use it unlike non-aquarium silicone that is "mushy".
