AquaClear Extension Tube for Power Filters

AquaClear Extension Tube for 70, 110 Power FiltersSince it was unclear how deep the filter would reach with the included tube(s), I ordered this. This is exactly the same as the tubes included with the filter. It turns out there are two included with the AquaClear 70. Two tubes reaches an appropriate depth in my 20" deep tank. Adding a third tube would actually have hit, or wanted to go through, the floor of the tank. So, I'll keep this as a spare.

When you purchase one of their filters, the intake tubes that come are generally too short. Mine runs about 2/3 of the way to the bottom and should be closest to the bottom as possible.

Buy AquaClear Extension Tube for Power Filters Now

This is a no brainer. This absolutely does not impede the water flow. and if that is a concern of yours, just cut the tip off of the middle or first attachment. The tube doesn't have to reach all the way down to the bottom--that is what weekly 10-15% water changes are for.

This is exactly the same extension tube included with my AquaClear 70 power filter.

If you have a tall aquarium and you want the intake near buttom, I highly recommend this extension tube.

Want AquaClear Extension Tube for Power Filters Discount?

I have a 50 gallon power filter and the attachments that came with the unit only went down halfway in my 30 gallon fish tank. This extends closer to the floor of the tank so the filter can work better at cleaning up things that settle on the bottom. Not much else to say it's exactly the same kind of tube that comes with the filter.

Oceanic 36015 BioCube HQI Aquarium, 29-Gallon

Oceanic 36015 BioCube HQI Aquarium, 29-GallonI have had this since May 2012 and use it as a Saltwater, Fish only tank and it has really been hard to maintain. I have to wipe it down every day because salt accumulates all over it, especially at the seams and you can forget keeping the glass cover clean. I have already had to replace the protein skimmer. The original one didn't stop working it just didn't work well enough. In fairness, this may be easier to maintain as a freshwater tank, but I regret the purchase and wish I had just gotten a larger tank that would hold more than 3 or 4 fish to make the maintenance work while. Probably could maintain a 55 gal. at the same cost with the same or even less maintenance. I have to use additional fans to keep the temperature at an acceptable level, the light emits a lot of heat even with the fans it holds. With this size tank the temperature fluctuates at the least change in environmental temperature, even small temporary change.

I have had my hqi for a month now, and i am very impressed how easy it is to keep corals and fish. I would recommend a couple power heads for it though

TOM Aquarium Overflow Box with Auto Start and Stop, Hosing incl.

TOM Aquarium Overflow Box with Auto Start and Stop, Hosing incl.I just got this. I did not know that this is not a stand alone unit. It is suppose to be attached to a sump unit that has a pump made to match this. So I have a refugium and a pump but was looking for an "awesome" overflow box. I was misinformed. I don't know if it was me or the way the product was discribed. I see how the "auto start and stop" would have worked if it was attached to the sump pump and tightened with a hose clamp but without the other unit (which cost like $250+), I don't have an overflow box with all the bells and whistles. Hope my information helps others like me. If you are a aquarium guru who knew better than me, than this is my mistake.

UpdateOkay. This unit sucks. Now that I took it apart to see how it works, I can clearly say it could have been made better. Save your money. This unit is made with weak plastic (yes, I considered that many aquatic products are made weak and costs a lot but this is weaker). For $100, it should be stronger, designed better and easy to take apart. I did not break mine but even the instruction book warns about breaking it while taking it apart to clean it. Then I realized two of the parts are very hard to remove. I gave this unit a good try and was disappointed.

Let me say this, if your tank isnt drilled and you want something that does the trick in both a compact and quiet way this is your overflow box. I had the Eshopps PF300 and couldnt deal with the noise, even when I used the modification tips. That thing made all sorts of noises and it was a real pain to get working. This thing is awesome, you simply plumb it (mine wasnt shipped with hoses but i had my own so didnt complain or request them), pour a little water in the resevoir and start your pump. Power goes out no problem, i tested it a bunch of times to be sure it would start back up. Compact no question in and out in the same box cant be beat. Adjustable outlet could be a little better but you are supposed to have powerheads in a reef or saltwater set up so this isnt even an issue worth complaining about. Very adjustable when it comes to water level, I can drop my tank almost 2 inches or I can raise it to the brim, each adjustment can be fine tuned easily. Each click up or down takes about 20-30 seconds to see the change in water level.

Ive been in the fish hobby for nearly 40 years. Ive have probably 5 or 6 different types of overflow boxes through the years and this one just works great. Very easy to set up and to use. And it's self priming! Been using for about 3 months now. If it holds up it will be a best buy!

Marina Hang-On Breeding Box, Medium

Marina Hang-On Breeding Box, MediumI bought a couple of theses after buying some of the large ones. I find these excellent for mt small "shell dweller" fry. It's just as good and as easy to use s the large. I don't think I would want anything smaller though. This is as small as I would want.

Going to try and make a tiny refugium for my 10 gallon salt tank with this breeder small enough to not take up too much space but big enough to put some small algae rock and a few pods in there lets see what happens so far so good

Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-Gallon

Aqueon AQE17102 Evolve Desk Top Aquariums Tank, 8-GallonHello Everyone,

I purchased the Evolve 8 a few weeks ago because the design is much more aesthetically pleasing compared to most of the nano-tanks out there. I really like how the sump and filter pad is hidden behind the tank. However, I did notice that the sump is INCREDIBLY LOUD!!! However, I found a very easy fix for this that I wanted to share with everyone. If you are incredibly OCD like me and don't like the loud buzzing this tank makes, follow the instructions below to eliminate the pump sound.

Step 1

Go to Lowes and buy the pond pump filter below (I picked it up for under $12.00):

Smart Pond Water Garden Replacement FilterStep 2

Pull the sump out of your tank and remove the suction cups on the bottom

Step 3

Take the black foam piece out of the Garden Replacement filter and wrap it all around the sump. (You can use the blue piece instead, but the black one will let more water into the sump)

Step 4

Place the now foam covered sump back into its compartment in the Evolve tank. The sump may start making some noises at first, when it starts to prime itself, but after a few seconds the buzzing should go away and you'll be left with a dramatically more tolerable low level humming noise (about the same as you'd experience on a normal canister or cascade filter).

Step 5

Enjoy your beautiful AND QUIET Aqueon Evolve nano tank!!!!

I'm sure this technique will work on all of the Aqueon models. You can always trim off some of the black foam to get it to fit into the smaller compartments in the Aqueon Evolve 4 and 2. The Garden Replacement Filter is HUGE compared to the sump so don't worry if you make a mistake. You'll have a lot of material to work with. Hope this helps!

I've just set up my Aqueon Evolve 8 on my desk in my office, and I am thrilled with it so far. It is somewhat less than 8 gallons, but there is ample room for 6-7 small fish. I have read several complaints about the pump being noisy, but mine makes almost no sound at all just a low hum that is easily ignored in an office environment. I love that all the "ugly" parts, like the filter and pump, are hidden in the black compartment so it looks really nice on my desk. There was also ample room to add a heater so I can keep tropical fish. My only complaint is that the lid doesn't sit very securely on the top of the tank; it is easy to knock in if you are messing with it much, but that is only a minor problem. I definitely recommend the Aqueon Evolve 8 to anyone looking for a small and attractive aquarium.

1. as many have stated, 8 gallons it is not, calculations put it at 5 usable. Inside tank dimensions are: W 11 3/8, D 8 3/4, H 11 5/8

2. as many have stated, but to the contrary, mine (the stock pump) is NOT loud, it is quite quiet. The bubbler is 10 times louder. The only thing I can think of is if people are positioning the pump touching a wall, then the vibrations may get amplified. Mine is in the center on the bottom.

3. * does not include heater or bubbler. BTW, the pump, heater, and bubbler fit in that sump area quite nicely (ie snug, but doable)

4. It's a good looking little unit. Once I'm moved into my new place I will be purchasing another for a small saltwater tank :)

**Edit: so after 6 months or so the pump did end up getting LOUD, real loud, tiny machine gun loud. Replaced it with Ehiem 300. The output diameter is bigger, but it was an easy fix, the stock hose size fits snug into the hose that comes off the new pump (hose bought at hardware store). I was worried about to much flow (currently housing a beta) so I drilled a small hole in the side of the hose to relieve some pressure, which just feeds back into the sump area. Still a great tank, working on creating space for another one.

I just put it together and it seems like a nice aquarium kit. It includes the light, air pump, and filter. No heater is included, but the instructions advise buying the Aqueon miniheater which has suction cups and can be put in the back box, along with the submersible pump, which also has suction cups.

I'm unsure if the filter will be adequate, since it's just powered by the air pump flowing water through the filter cartridge. I'll add to this review if there's a problem.

The instructions for assembling the filter apparatus were inadequate, but it wasn't difficult to figure out.

The kit also included a small fish food sample and some water conditioner.

***

August 14, 2012. The light seems to have dimmed somewhat over time.

Also, I bought the recommended Aqueon miniheater, but I think it's better for a 10 gallon tank. It kept raising the temperature to 84 degrees F, which is a bit higher than the recommended temperature range for tropical freshwater fish.

Another problem is that the tank warped a bit after water was in it for a while. The lid no longer snap fits on it.

***

October 26. Part of the LED light went dark and part started flickering. Had to switch the light.

***

November 12. The company replaced the lamp for me at no cost, including shipping.

I got this tank after researching a nice tank between 5 and 10 gallons for my betta. After a bit of poking around, I decided this would be the best choice.

This tank isn't cheap you could get a rectangular 10 gallon setup with heater, light, and filter for far less than you're going to pay for the Evolve 8. What you are paying for is the aesthetics of the tank itself.

The filter is integrated in the tank behind a black panel. There is also a lot of space in the back designed to fit a heater, and the light is an attractive shape and lights the tank very well. The result is an attractive display space with nothing but the display.

The LED light included is good enough to grow low and medium light plants, making it ideal for a planted tank. It can also support a miniature reef aquarium do an image search for this aquarium and you'll see all the possibilities.

The filter is fairly quiet. It was quieter when I first got it, but it's not too bad now. The current from the filter is adjustable, but is still very strong. I had to resort to creating a filter baffle because it was making the tank uncomfortable for my betta.

The size is also nice. 8 gallons is enough for one small school of fish, makes a comfortable home for a betta, or may even be a mini community tank for solitary species of fish.

All in all, I'm very, very happy with my purchase.

UPDATE: I have had this tank now for about 5 months and I'm still incredibly pleased. There was a clicking noise for a little while coming from the pump, but disassembling it and scrubbing it with a toothbrush quickly fixed the problem. I LOVE this tank! Very attractive, very sturdy, very nice.

Microbe-Lift Special Blend for Home Aquariums

Microbe-Lift Special Blend for Home Aquariums, 16-OunceThis is by far the most effective aquarium additive I have ever used. It's speeds up the cycle and significantly reduces the frequency of water changes ... without polluting the water with chemicals. I still test my water regularly just less water changes. There's really no need to add anything else. Highly recommend.

After using Microbe Lift PL in my pond, I found out about Microbe Lift's in-home products. True to form, the aquarium products stink just as much as the pond stuff (the smell goes away after a few minutes), but it works wonders! Crystal clear water; reduced algal growth in my 125 gal. fresh water, and 50 gal reef-tanks; and and vibrant, healthy, active fish.

100% natural and I swear by these products.

I was looking for a product that would extend water changes in my fresh water fish tank and create a healthy environment for my fish. When I was at Petco, they recommended Microbe-Lift Special Blend. I used it as instructed and this product is excellent. The water is crystal clear and I haven't changed the water in 4 months; it says you can go up to 6 months. This product does smell like rotten eggs, which is normal; however the smell goes away within minutes. I highly recommend this product for anyone who is tired of water changes and wants a healthy environment for their fish. The product sates you can use this for salt water fresh as well.

Found this stuff at PetCo and gave it a try, I love it. It smells horrible, but it works. I have 5 aquariums from 150g to 10g, had no problems at all. I bought niteout originally but Special Blend alone has worked for me. Never had any water problems. I recommend this over all other bacteria supplements. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

Want Microbe-Lift Special Blend for Home Aquariums Discount?

This product does have a bad smell at first that dissipates quickly. Hydrogen Sulfide (the source of that rotten egg smell) induces a state of "hibernation" so the bacteria survive longer. It is added as a type of preservative if you will. I crack the top, measure it out, quickly re-cap the bottle and then toss my dose in the tank. The smell lingers in the room for just a bit but it doesn't make your tank water stink. Once the process of opening the bottle and kicking up that smell is over and airs out I don't have any smell sticking around. My ammonia and nitrites are both at 0ppm with nitrates 30ppm. For the first time in 5 years my plants are growing instead of keeling over on me. I haven't been using it long, but I'm really glad I found it. Smell aside :)

Como Fish Tank Aquarium Purple 4.3" Dia Landscaping Silicone Sea Urchin

Como Fish Tank Aquarium Purple 4.3' Dia Landscaping Silicone Sea UrchinI bought this ornament for my beta vase and it works perfectly for my application. My beta loves it! He's always swimming through the little "tentacles", laying on it, and hiding behind it. The color is different than the photo the product is more pinkish in person than in the photo and the product that I received has white tips on the end of the "tentacles". Not a big deal for me, though. Happy with the product overall. Well worth the money.
