Fluval Carbon, 100-gram Nylon Bags - 3-Pack

Fluval Carbon, 100-gram Nylon Bags - 3-PackThese are pretty nice. You get three small bags of carbon. I should have figured out how much 330G was because they are kind of small for the Fluval FX5. I put two in my filter and I could still fit two more if I wanted. Next time I am going to buy the filter bags and just fill them up with carbon. This is cheaper then you will find at local pet stores, but I think I should be able to get more for my money if I fill my own filter bag.

I was looking at purchasing carbon in a bulk container and inserting it into a re-usable medai bag. However, after crunching some numbers, it is actually cheaper to purchase this three-pack than it is to purchase carbon in bulk.

I only use it in tanks that I need to clear medication out, or have inserted some wood that is releasing tannins and making the water dingy. In an ongoing bassis, my filters don't include carbon. However, I like having some on hand just in case. These prepackaged bags are handy and great to use when needed.

U.P. Aqua Shrimp Sand

U.P. Aqua Shrimp SandI've raised allot of different plants on allot of different substrates, and by far this stuff is my favorite. its a nice alternative to the much more expensive ADA amazonia. the only downside is the size its only about enough to fill a standard 5 gallon tank.

This substrate can't no longer buff my water ph. it's only been 4 months of use and my shrimp tank water can't go any lower than 7 ph.

I really like this product for my shrimp tanks.Works well, just rinse off and use.Shrimp love to look for food in it.Just the right size.

I purchased several bags of U.P. Aqua Shrimp Substrate for a couple tanks (20 Long PFR/10 PRL) based off of being newer to the market and a few glowing reviews. Here in the US we do not get many of the substrates that are available in HK, Japan, and Europe due to import restrictions and lack of importers in general.

Overall, it does look good and is what I would consider the only reason I haven't gave it away. Small ~1MM grains are easy for shrimp to play with, and several of my PFRs like to actually dig into it while scavenging. The reason they are able to interact with it so much is entirely due to the lightweight of the grains. Planting anything with buoyancy is frustrating without using inert weights, including Java Ferns which will "walk" around the tank at night without them in the currents. Waving a few fingers through the water and creating a current will send little black grains everywhere. Ph Buffering ability is pretty much non-existent unless you fill 1/5 of a 10G tank which wasn't a primary concern of mine as I use a 5 stage RO/DI anyways. Tested with both house tap, RO, grocery store mineral water and could not see any significant Ph buffering. There was no ammonia spike detected which is nice.

That being said, it would look incredible in a small desk nano as long as you are not depending on it to do much else than be inert. In that aspect I gave it 3 stars on looks alone, and it didn't give me any cloudiness issues to speak of. I will keep it in a few tanks, but I cannot say I am willing to spend that much again for an inactive substrate. There are much better values around here (twice as much product, actually buffer 6.5, and cost half the price).

This is an exceptionally clean and attractive substrate and so far I am very impressed. It rinses nearly clear and partial water changes do not cloud the water. One bag does a 10 gallon tank adequately.

Rectangle coffee table aquarium, completely fish ready with hidden filter and LED lights

Rectangle coffee table aquarium, completely fish ready with hidden filter and LED lightsI needed an aquarium with a small footprint and good capacity. This product was a good choice. It was shipped promptly and safely. The reason this is not a 5 star review...a lack of instructions for the filter system.

TOM Stellar Air Pump S-20 - 20gal to 30gal tank

TOM Stellar Air Pump S-20 - 20gal to 30gal tankSo far I've been very pleased with this pump. I've had it for about a week now. After reading complaints about the Tetra Whisper pumps dieing prematurely I decided to give this one a try. Only time will tell, but the construction seems solid. And, the price at least when I bought it was very reasonable and eligible for prime shipping.

All air pumps make noise, but the volume from this seems plenty reasonable. I hid mine in a wicker basket under my tank and that seems to almost completely mask any noise. This pump did not come with any other accessories like a t fitting to split the air into multiple hoses, or a check valve to make sure water doesn't back flow into the pump. I already had these so it wasn't an issue for me.

Many people don't know but the rubber diaphragms eventually always wear out in any air pump. So, we will see how long these last, they do list the part number on the packaging for replacing them when they wear out. But, I suspect with shipping that they will cost as much as a new pump since the pump is so inexpensive and eligible for prime shipping.

My goal is to get at least a year of use out of this pump before the diaphragms need replacing. In my mind that's a reasonable amount of time for a pump in this price range. If it dies before a year is out I'll come back and update this post, if there are no updates then it means my pump lasted at least a year!

For an inexpensive air pump this one does a good job. It is fairly quiet, though I have had better. Puts out plenty of air through my 2" bubble disk.

I was looking for a replacment to my Tetra Whisper (Tetra 77851 Whisper Air Pump, 10-Gallon) reading a review that this product (TOM Stellar Air Pump S-20 20gal) is the most quiet among the many the reviewer has experienced. By far, this pump vibrated on top of my tank despite putting a damper under its feet. The sound is just too annoying. I then tried a Rena (Rena 702A Model 50 Air Pump by Mars but they're both so noisy I went back to ordering the Tetra Whisper. For the time and effort to return these 2 items, it was better for me to throw them out to garbage.

Laguna PowerFlo External Biological Pond Filter, 1000-Gallon, 20-Inch

Laguna PowerFlo External Biological Pond Filter, 1000-Gallon, 20-InchWe bought this as a second biological filter for our koi pond. The media inside our waterfall is our original (and primary) bio filter. However, the small koi that we stocked the pond with years ago have now grown to about 2 feet long. They eat a ton and "pollute" the water like crazy so we decided to add a bit more mechanical and biological filtration. We bought a second pump (Laguna MaxFlo 3000GPH) along with this Laguna bio filter. This new pump is in bottom of deepest part of pond (3.5') and circulates water through separate above-ground UV sterilizer and then to this Laguna bio filter which then empties back into pond. As another viewer noted, it was a hassle to find hosing that would fit the output connections of this filter. Seems to be an odd or irregular size. Regular pond hosing didn't fit so had to spend a lot of time and MUCH more $$$ than should be necessary to get hose that would fit and survive the elements.

As far as the actual performance of this bio filter...I have to say I'm unimpressed. The cost of it is low compared to others that I considered which is why I gave it a 2 instead of a 1.

What I like?

The price

Easy enough to clean. Bottom plug removes in order to drain. Lift-out compartments can be quickly hosed off.

Some other bio filters are set up for easy flushing and cleaning, but cost considerably more.

What I don't like?

It's sort of flimsy (we laid some flat concrete pads behind the landscaping in order to level filter box and give it some stability)

I don't like the filtering media provided (it keeps disappearing through the output hoses). Will replace with better option.

Lid doesn't fit snugly enough.

If you aren't careful in making sure that the two output flows are removing water from the filter at a rate equal to (or greater than) water coming in, the excess water will just spill out from under lid...and drain your pond.

The already mentioned problem with finding output hosing to fit. I ended up having to spend $40 for 4.5' of output hosing.

I feel that the engineering of the filter input/output and compartments is not optimal. If I don't clean it out at least once a week, too much dead algae and other gunk settles in the bottom. I generally only clean out our other biological filter (BioFalls) no more than 2-3 times a year. In order to keep the good bacteria operating at peak, the media needs water/oxygen circulating over it constantly. If water circulates too fast, the bacteria doesn't have enough time to do its stuff. But in the case of this bio filter, it appears to me that there is too much lower area in the box where the water doesn't circulate or move the water. As a result, the dead algae (from the UV sterilizer) and other small debris just settles in the bottom and slowly decays.

I am very pleased with this product. My 1,000 gallon pond was a murky green before i installed this filter. in less than two days it is crystal clear. I hooked it up to a laguna clear flo 900 gph pond pump. I think that was important as this particular pump was capable of handling larger particles. The only reason I did not give it five stars is that the water outflow nozzle is larger than a 1.25 inch and smaller than a 1.5 inch. I had to buy and fit a specialty hose so I could run an outflow line and not use the unit as a waterfall. I have a separate pump and hose for the waterfall. Also, it comes with the filter pad and the lava rock, but it would not have taken much to also include the plastic biological media which goes in the third stage. I had to buy that separately also. overall, the filter works very well, I would definitely recommend.

We have used this model of pond filter for several years and had to replace it recently due to minor part breakage. The price is reasonable and the function is fine. I would like a stronger bottom plug design and water supply connector.

I have had this for a few months now. I must say, it does work with a little help with beneficial bacteria. I have this running on the Laguna 600 pump, it's feeding into the external filter. The bacteria can grow on its own, or you can buy products to start the biological process. I would not use this with anything larger than 1000 gallons. It is a bit smaller, with a little added bio-media added such as ceramic rings, a few lava rocks, plastic scrub pads, and a few small air conditioner filter pads (not included) this things works great to grow bacteria. Only mods I would suggest, adding a air pump with air stones in the media, so the bacteria will grow. I have done this by drilling a hole and adding a air pump to media. Also the parts made are a little cheaply made but do the job.

TOM Aquarium Maintenance Algae Scraper Multi Tool 34 Length

TOM Aquarium Maintenance Algae Scraper Multi Tool 34 LengthIf you have an aquarium, you need an algae scraper. If you need an algae scraper, this is a good one to have. It's that simple. This model has a metal handle and the attachments attach securely. The scraper can only be used on GLASS aquariums, but the "polisher" and the "rake" can be used with acrylic tanks. If you don't know which length to get, get the longest. If you are like me, you probably have your hands in the tank more than your fish like anyway. The longer length also makes scraping a little easier due to increased leverage. This is a good purchase...

This thing is GREAT. I have a 29gal freshwater tank and was having trouble doing basic maintenance. I had previously purchased a scraper that was just too short to be effective...well it was effective in keeping my sleeves totally soaked (yes short sleeves). With this new scraper I can do maintenance right before heading out for a night on the town without getting a drop of water on me or anywhere else. All the attachments have solid construction and are secure when attached to the scraper arm. The polishing tool has a rotating head to get in those hard to reach places and the scraper does the job with little effort. The scraper is METAL so use on acrylic is a NO, NO. The gravel tool is great for turning algae covered gravel and I even use it to seat my plants after vacuuming. IMO for the price you cant go wrong if you own a glass tank. If you own an acrylic tank the gravel & polishing tool is worth the price by themselves.

I've been looking everywhere for something to reach the bottom of my aquarium and have finally found it. This is a strong and sturdy scraper, with a flexible blade, which surprisingly isn't too sharp. However, it works extrememly well, even on stubborn coraline.

I am so happy I decided to get this tool! The 34" length is wonderful! The "rake" is sturdy enough to do a good job even with a 3-4" layer. The metal scraper is wonderful for the coralline algae and the "polisher" is on a swivel to make getting into corners a breeze. There is only one disadvantage that I can find; one of my tanks is a 42 gal bow front and the metal scraper does not swivel so it cannot maintain good contact on the bowed glass. That's not enough of a problem for me to take away a star because the product is so wonderful overall.

Want TOM Aquarium Maintenance Algae Scraper Multi Tool 34 Length Discount?

I purchased this item to clean my saltwater Biocube14. The black scrubber head is not very abrasive, but works well for cleaning off filmy algae on the glass. OK for acrylic too, which is part of the reason I purchased this item. The metal scraper is not sharp (blade is thicker than expected) and a bit flimsy, so it requires some amount of force to remove the tough stuff. Does not remove coralline algae, or at least I haven't figured out how to do it.

Overall better than others I have tried and I'm glad I made the purchase.

Midwest Tropical AquaRound Aquarium

Midwest Tropical AquaRound Aquariumthis is a good aquarium I like the round shape the small size and that it is only 8 gallons much easier and cheaper to take care of then aquariums that are 25 gallons plus only thing I really did not like was the filter I needed to buy a internal filter not a big deal since most small internal filters don't cost that much

I find this product very well designed. I am very pleased with the detail and the clarity of the tank. I was hoping nevertheless that I would be able to place the top over a filter that I have placed on the top of the tank. However, this was not a part of the original design so I am not complaining.

Otherwise, a very good product

Seachem Flourish 500ml

Seachem Flourish 500mlFlourish is an excellent micro nutrient fertilizer for the freshwater planted aquarium. You can really see an improvement in your plants if you use the appropriate fertilizers for your tank. Keep in mind this is just "Flourish" which is a nutrient supplement, not "Flourish Excel" which is the CO2 supplement. Both products are wonderful additions for a tank.

This is an awsome product when it comes to plant nutrients but be carefull.. The bottle says to treat 1-2 times a week.. I had a planted tank with about 5 medium sized plants and it was going good for months but the plants were starting to change colors and wilt. So i picked up some seachem, and the plants popped right back to life. Then about 2 weeks into treatment my tanks bloomed with algae and black beard algae which there is no way to get rid of. I know this product did not cause the black beard algae but by treating twice a week there was so much extra nutrients that the algae took off and out of control.. SO be warned, use this product as needed not as suggested on the bottle.. it wont take much to over do it..

I can't say anything more than, this stuff works great with the excel, iron, potassium, and other Seachem products. My plants are greener and thriving. The floating plants have really taken off and over taken the top to the point where I'm throwing away perfectly good plants. The roots look long and strong for the floaters. The planted media look great and are also multiplying. Before the purchase of this product, the plants didn't get that extra bit elements this product introduces into the water stimulating growth.

Now with this stuff, my plants and tank are a lot more stable. I trust the Seachem brand. I have all their products. Will buy again.

Eshopps PF-800 Overflow Box - Up to 125 gal.

Eshopps PF-800 Overflow Box - Up to 125 gal.I have this overflow except it only has 1 U tube. I think my U tube is bigger. The overflow works fine. It's designed to maintain prime throughout the duration of a power outage. Mine had an internal leak that cause it to loose prime after about half an hour of no power. I fixed it with some PVC cement. I recommend you test yours for this leak before you leave the house with it running. Just get it going and then shut off your pumps. Then wait hours and watch the water level in the center chamber. It should stay at the top.

If you dump water into the center chamber quickly, air bubbles can go up the U tube and cause it to lose prime. When filling my tank with new water, I put the hose from the trash can into the hole in one of the sponge filters and that stops the bubbles from getting in there. You just always have to be mindful of prime when you are messing with it. If you cause it to lose prime, you sump will empty itself on the floor via your main tank. I guess that's why the U tube is clear. Being clear means you have to put a brush in it sometimes to clean out algae but at least you can see, at a glace, if you lost prime while you were adding water or moving it or whatever you are doing to it.

Easy install, put on tank adjust black box up or down to control water level in tank. Start siphon ( I have found it is easy to put a piece of airline tubing up the pipe and start a siphon and then pull out). Was a little loud, I removed the black sponge and put a piece of airline tubing down the hole and it did the trick (thanks to a youtube video) I have it on a 75 gallon tank with a RIO Plus 2500 rated at 782gph pump. Works great!!!!

Buy Eshopps PF-800 Overflow Box - Up to 125 gal. Now

This is overall pretty good. I never loose siphon, and with a diy "gurgle buster" this thing is pretty silent. However, this thing cannot be putting out nearly 800 GPH. I have an almost straight down PVC run into the sump with 2 elbows. So there is no restrictions on the outflow. I have a Rio return pump rated at 1090 GPH pushing 6 foot of head through 6 elbows and a check valve. At the head height (not mentioning the restrictions), the pump is rated at 660 GPH, and it would run my return chamber dry in less than a minute if I left it wide open. I am only looking for about 400-500 GPH of flow, so for my application this is ok. But if someone is looking for 800 GPH, you're not going to get it with this one.

Como Fish Tank Aquarium Green Plastic Grass Plants Decoration 6.7" High

Como Fish Tank Aquarium Green Plastic Grass Plants Decoration 6.7' HighThis plant is as advertised. Looks just like the picture. Six inches at its tallest spreads out nicely. Has a very realistic natural color, heavy base. Very nice product.

When I first saw this I was really disappointed in the construction and the look. But, the baby guppies need good cover to hide in so I thought I'd just try it before I packed it away for future emergency tank deco. Well, I was really surprised with how great it looks in the tank and it is tightly enough gathered that babies will really have good protection in it. The coloring is a nice blend that fits perfect with the rest of my deco. 4 stars only. Construction is a wonky.

This is a pretty nice decoration. It sinks to the bottom and stays there. I do have a problem with one of them not staying in the base notch.

My only complaint would be the base area is kind of sparse. And since I don't use substrate like sand or pebbles. It looks very artificial. but you should be fine if you do.

I have a turtle tank so I only use large river rocks.
