Fish Food - Cichlid (Flake), 8.5 Oz.

My green severum is a VERY picky eater.. won't eat flake nor floating pellets. However, she absolutely LOVES this food. My boyfriend and I ordered two kits and a small cave kit as well (in two orders) and both orders took about 25 days to get to our house. Absolutely ridiculous. Once we got the pieces, they were super small and didn't make a good cave at all. (One order we still haven't gotten). It's a shame, I wanted to have lots of caves for my cichlids when I get my 120 gallon aquarium in June, but I will certainly not be ordering from here

I wouldve rated the seller on 5 stars if the package came the date it was expected to. Besides the late shipping, the stones were beautiful and authentic. i highly recommend these slabs if any one is interested in creating a beautiful aquarium. The pieces are nice and authentic, however they are much narrower than expected. Judging by the pictures I was expecting wider pieces of slate. When I think of slate I think of flat, wide and long. These pieces are thick and long, but their width is severely lacking. I unfortunately purchased 4 sets to split between my 46 and 37 gallon tank. However I believe I had reasonable expectations in mind but will not be able to be even close to accomplishing what I wanted with all 4 sets in either tank. At this price point of spending over $75 (for over 4 sets) I am disappointed.

Shipping was also delayed due to "flooding" or what not excuse they emailed me after a week which was when I was expecting delivery but just received an email instead. After opening the decent size boxes I had high hopes. The rocks are bubblewrapped, but also have small spacing cardboard boxes inside. Please take this all into consideration when looking for slate from this company.

I was really really disappointed when I bought this. The stones weren't even the right cuts and the number of stones I received did not even equal to the pictures. They are so thin and irregular cuts that they don't even stack well. They are very unstable. And when you stack them they don't even come close to going as high halfway to the tank as in the picture. I tried to salvage my order by stacking them and leaned them by the side of the aquarium and then I found one of my tetras stuck between the rocks. So, I had to remove them all together. People that gave high reviews are probably people that sell these to scam your 20 bucks. Don't buy this unless you just want to waste your 20 dollars.

Tetra Whisper EX Filter

Tetra 26313 Whisper EX 70 Filter, 45-70-Gallon

I have 7 tanks set up all with power filters. Half of my power filter is tetra EX. They have been in this line of business for a long time and have been known to be reliable and trust worthy.

Power filter that hang at the back of the tank are design for aquarium of 5 to 80 gallons. For tanks of 10 to 55 gallon I definitely would say power filter is the best type of filter for them. You should get a power filter that is rated twice the size of your tank and may be even up to 3 times if you have a lot of "living things" in your tank. So the EX 30 is perfect for 10 gallon tanks and reasonable for 20 gallon tanks.

Power filter performs three filtration functions, mechanical, chemical and biological filtration. Each type of power filter has its advantage and disadvantages and none is perfect for all three functions. The EX is good in mechanical and chemical filtration and is great for biological filtration. The chemical filtration is great if you use bio bag and added more chemicals inside the bag instead of using the sealed cartridge. The sealed cartridge is more expensive but easier to handle. The bio bag is more time consuming to use but you can add more and different types of chemicals and I think the mechanical filtrations is also better. (The carbon that comes with the bio bag is the same amount as in the seal cartridge and you should add a lot more chemicals to the bio bag and I like the Ammo-Carbon) Another advantage of the bio bag is if you need to remove the carbon for some medication you can just empty the chemical out of the bag and keep the bag for mechanical filtration. If you use the sealed cartridge you have to remove the whole cartridge and lost the mechanical filtration (or replace it with an empty bio bag).

The noise level of the EX is better than most other power filters. The best power filter especially in mechanical filtrations is Aqua Clear. Unfortunately Aqua Clear has one big disadvantage. It will not restart by itself after a power failure. You need a UPS (uninterrupted power supply used by computer system) to make sure if you lost power for a short period of time the Aqua Clear stays working. If you do not have an UPS using Aqua Clear is a big risk and if there is a power failure and you are away for a few days you may lost your whole tank.

I bought 4 other power filters before this one. They either failed within a year and/or were loud and not doing a good job of cleaning the tank. I finally came across this one and it's a keeper. It's really quiet, does a thorough job of filtering the water and keeping it clear, especially if I replace the filter regularly. I use this for an aquatic turtle tank and they are difficult to keep clean but this pump does the job. I used to have to buy a new power filter every 9 or 12 months due to failure but I've had the Whisper EX30 for 2 years now and it's still going strong and still quiet !

6/20/2013: Update: It now has been 4.5 years and this thing is still working like a charm, keeping my turtle tank clean and still quiet. Great value!

TOM Aquarium Maintenance Algae Scraper Multi Tool 14 Length

I really like this set for cleaning our aquarium. It's nice not to get your hands in the water when scraping the glass or cleaning the sand. My only complaint is that it would be really nice if the scraper rotated 90 degrees to either side. We have a bow-front aquarium and you can only scrap the front glass from side to side. If you try to scrape up and down (the only way this guy will work) you just scratch two lines at either end of the blade. Overall, not a huge deal...

Works great on my tank for the areas my clean up crew doesn't get to. Love the interchangeable heads and the long handle.

We had a fish tank at work that had been neglected as the owner of the fish got a new job. The tank was disgusting and the scraper in this kit cleaned the glass tank so easily. After cleaning the tank clouds up for a bit but once the filter cleaned things up the tank was sparkling clean. We found the fish and the scraper a new home but if you plan to keep yours a while I do recommend this tool for cleaning your tank.

Seachem Stability 500ml

I started a new 36 gallon freshwater tank and used SeaChem Stability to kick-start it. Added a few fish immediately (4 danios, 4 cherry barbs) and things went perfectly. Water is balanced, clear, and cleanmy fish are thriving. Definitely helps reduce tank shock. You still need a dechlorinator and the best filter you can afford; I use a Rena Filstar XP2 and am very happy. Avoid overfeeding and use a good quality food (NOT TopFin!!!).

A must-have for tank setup and water changes. I've been using stability for years, and it's one of the best "good bacteria" products out there. Highly recommended! Just be sure to read directions, have a healthy tank to start with and be educated as to how nitrates, nitrites and ammonia levels work in a tank cycle. With good information and a great product like this, you can't go wrong. I also recommend Seachem's Neutral Regulator and a spit of Stress Coat for every water change.

I have used this product multiple times to start quarantine tanks and hospital tanks (marine tanks, with both fish and coral.) It works; it's worked every time. I've never had my tanks spike ammonia or nitrite when using this product as directed. I'm amazed how many websites & forums claim that no such product exists. Also, the reviewer who says that you have to keep using it is wrong, for so many reasons (the bacteria don't get used up and die, they multiply, just like all bacteria, and also, all of the bacteria that would normally be in your tank if you cycle the traditional way will also still exist in the tank.) I've never used the product beyond 7 days, not even with water changes, and my tanks have never "crashed" when I stopped using this. I would, however, consider stocking the tank lightly, and gradually building up stock.

This product has worked for me and the people I know who use it. Whether it's for starting a new tank or for use after killing the bacteria bed when medicating a tank. I've seen it cull a nitrite spike and keep new tank syndrome from happening. For larger tanks, a bottle wouldn't last long, but it's definitely worth it. I mean, who wants to wait to start a tank, or who wants to watch their fish die from ammonia or nitrite poisoning. So I would get a 500 mL bottle if you have anything bigger than a 20 or 29 gallon. That way you'll have some to start the tank and some later on, just in case. I've only seen it used for freshwater aquariums.

I have been using Stability as a backup for quite some time. I think it is good at providing bacteria that help process waste that settles on the bottom. Great compliment to the regular nitrifying bacteria that grow in the ordinary course.

UPDATE: 09/22/2012 Still using Stability every time I do a partial water change and I've never had a problem. I just meaure the correct amount in the cap and give the tank a shot. I really think it helps.

I've owned the 55 for less than two months when the motor failed. I tried calling Rena for help, all you get is an answering machine. They called me back two days later and told me that I can box up the filter and send it back for warranty. I said "hold on, this is my filter, I can't run w/o for a week or more" I asked if I could buy a replacement motor or if they could do an advanced replacement, I'd happily have paid for that. At that point the guy got rude and told me they "they weren't going to just ship out an expensive piece of equipment to me and if I considered my filter to be so important that I should own a backup."

I wish I could recommend this product, but having it fail in under two months and then being told I should have bought two is just unacceptable. I wish I would have read the other reviews first...

Bought the Smartfilter 55, but has same motor as this product 7 months ago. Recently started sounding / performing horribly. Emailed customer service to which the only answer was mail in unit at my shipping cost both direction and they'd 'fix' unit. When I asked for a unit to be sent to me upfront since this was in a working aquarium got the runaround. Called and got same result with the 'you should always have a backup pump'..... no I should have bought a product that works and is reliable. Will never buy another RENA project again.

what a major difference between this filter and any other fish tank filter I have ever used ... I read all the other reviews every 1 posted on this and figured i would take a chance and im glad i did ....the only bad thing i can say is the plastic flippers that level the filter on the back bottom are a joke like other ppl said in there reviews no big deal rip up a small peace of cardboard problem solved ... the quietest filter iv ever used and i do fish tanks for a living ... the box filter setup is very smart and very well thought out the price of the filters are up there but u can get replacements at petsmart ...it moves a lot of water and because the spillway is 12 inch wide it puts a lot of o2 in the water it took about 4 days for the filter to set up and the milk to go away

..if this filter holds up I will get 10 to 15 more and suggest them to my clients ..if it takes a dump on me I will post that in my review .... take it from a pro this filter is far better then anything out there

has became noise and very hard to restart i would not buy another 1 until Rena updates this and fixes whats wrong with it ...its a real shame because its a sound idea works good the flow could be better im sure it would cost them all of 15 cents to fix the problems with this and put on the package new and improved next time i need new filters i will be putting the hole thing in the trash

This is one of the flimsiest, worst designed pieces of junk I have ever had the misfortune to purchase. I've been keeping fish for over 41 years, have bought a few filters in my time, & this is god-awful. The leveling pegs on the filter do not lock into place, & I found this out when HALF OF MY 55GL TANK EMPTIED OUT ONTO MY FLOOR, as the filter tilted forward overnight. The motor/impeller housing is supposed to come out easily for cleaning; it does, but falls apart & does not go back together easily. It also is made with very cheap plastic, & feels like it would break if I squeezed it w/ my hand. Very poor design, which shocks me, as Rena usually makes a great product. Rena dropped the ball on this one, I would recommend anyone thinking of purchasing this crap to steer clear.

Exo Terra Turtle Bank - Large

Interesting product

Not strong enough for larger turtles

I really want to like this product, but it didn't really cut it for me. I wish there was a half, this really should be 2 1/2 stars.

I have a 9" red eared slider. I've recently upgraded to an aqueon 40 gallon breeder style tank. It's glass and the sides are maybe 0.5cm wide. I was really excited when I bought this product because I've struggled with other turtle basking solutions. I've never been a fan of the products that use suction cups. I currently use a stone bridge Zilla Reptile Basking Platform with Ramp, Large. It's good and effective, but the legs of the bridge take a lot of tank re-estate and the height of the bridge is fixed, limiting the water level.

I purchased the large size turtle bank. I tried to do a lot of research online to see if this really worked for people, my primary concern was that the magnets weren't strong enough. I don't doubt other people's reviews, but this product just didn't work out for me. These magnets are indeed strong. They are strong enough to hold the turtle bank in place within the tankbut the bank wasn't securely locked in place. If you leave the bank alone, it looks secure, but if you push down on it with your hand, it dips and sags. The bank is sort of a stretched triangle shape and one contact point is in the middle of the short side, and about 1/3 of the way on the long side. The idea behind the design is that the far end of the long side will sag somewhat in the water, giving the turtle some area to pull itself out of the water.

When my slider saw the bank, it was instantly interested. It was a really natural platform. The problem I found, however, was that once the turtle was on the platform, the bank wobbled. In particular, the short end, opposite of where the turtle was attempting to get onto the platform pulled away from the water. After flopping around for a few seconds, the bank stabilized, but 1/2 of the bank sagged into the water. It wasn't ideal, but I figured that I would try it out. Within the next hour, my turtle must have kicked around a lot because the magnet on the short side was lost and I found the magnet on the floor. I re-secured it, but found that they were both disconnected the next morning.

I asked somebody at a pet store about the product, and they swore by it. I believe the turtles that used it were smaller however, maybe 6" and it was a pond with thinner plastic walls.

Description-

The bank itself is made out of a touch plastic. As the other reviews indicate, I doubt that your turtle will be able to chew on it. The top is textured, making it easier for a turtle to grip it to climb on top. The bottom and sides are smooth, making them easier to clean.

* Doesn't support larger turtles

* The magnets might be strong enough, but there should be more of them and they should be distributed evenly throughout the bank.

* Single hole (for drainage?) take on water and is hard to drain if it is filled up.

We have red-eared sliders about 6 inches long.

We put the turtle bank in a 50 gallon tank and, at first, we loved it. We thought we'd FINALLY found a decent platform (after wasting money on suction cup docks, floating docks that sunk, and several platforms that only allowed for 3-4 inches of water).

For a few hours, our little guy was dry, relaxed, warm, and very comfortable. He was on it less than 2 minutes after we put it in for him; he really likes it!

When he was done resting, that RES curiosity we all know and love kicked in, and he decided to try standing up on it to see if he could reach the top of the tank. Always looking for escape routes, these guys! As soon as he stood on his back legs and the distribution of his weight went from spread out to concentrated, the magnets dropped off and the bank shot out from under him and floated across the tank. As long as he and his brother are perfectly still when they're on it, it works. But turtles aren't statues! They eventually move, and the magnets fall off almost every time they do. We can hear the magnets hit the floor from 2 rooms away.

Half of the platform submerges with their weight, so only the corner is completely dry yet, when they concentrate their weight in that one corner, the magnets fly off and they get tossed off the dock.

We've built a little frame out of PVC pipe as a brace under the bank, and that has helped as a temporary fix, but we're searching for a decent basking platform....AGAIN.

Love the idea and actual feel of the turtle bank and my animals love it. But I purchased 2 and both sank, lost flotation, within a month... Exo-Terra said they will replace them but I have to send them back to them under my dime. After paying ~$30 each to begin with, I am not willing to spend even more money to ship water-logged turtle banks back to them. What a pain.

Lee's 10-Inch Tube, w/Cleaning Claw

I have the Lee's gravel vac. Which I love. It comes with this tube on the end. I needed to replace my 10in. tube. I thought this was the same exact thing. Mine has the cleaning claw to protect the fish, but mine was removeable. This one is NOT removeable. It's is attached and that is a drawback as far as I am concerned. I do not always want that on the end, and I was disappointed to find when it came that I couldnt take the cleaning claw off. I assumed it woudl be detachable since mine was, but I guess I shouldn't have assumed.

The light output on them is surprisingly good for only having a total of 10 LED's (I think its either 5 or 6 in each) and it give the water a nice shimmer (note you can only get shimmer if the surface of the water is disturbed, in my case by my power heads and filters). They are easy to install as well. The two problems I have that kept me from giving these a full five stars are:

1. For the price, I really feel like these should come with reflectors. The LEDs are simply on a circuit board floating in glass, so that you get a significant amount of light going to the sides and top. I originally used aluminum foil to counter this, but it kept falling off when I opened the glass and I finally just gave up. I have a hood so that you can't tell that the light is leaking, but it wastes some of the luminosity, and if you don't have a hood you will see blue light all over the place.

2. Another gripe with the price, this time compared to other similar products. After buying these, I discovered ecoxotic stunner strips, which contain many more LEDs in many different light colors (including this blue and even ultraviolet) for the same price, and they make a strip that will go the whole length of my tank for approximately double the price of these.

Overall I don't necessarily regret buying these, but I'm not sure I would again after finding ecoxotic's strips.

I have recently changed my lighting system on my 76 gallon Oceanic half round saltwater tank. The light I am using is LED and it has great coverage. However there was not separate plugs for the day and night lights. This caused problems because I have been on a timer for years, and trying to remember to turn off and on the lights everyday was next to impossible. I purchased these lights to use for my moon effect. The R2 Dual Extreme lights have been the perfect compliment to my tank. I am now able to have both light systems on a timer for worry free lighting. The lighting output is just right for my size tank. I highly recommend these lights.

I have a 90 gallon aquarium with glass tops and a double flourescent tube fixture. These lights (2) mounted perfectly between the tubes on the reflector and provide good side to side coverage for a four foot wide area. Mine is 24 inches high and the more height gives it a wider coverage area than a shallow tank would. At 24" high they probably cover 5-6' wide on the bottom. The aquarium is 18" deep so it doesn't cover that. But that wasn't my intention which was to provide a nice glow to the tank whenever the main light it off. Actually I just keep the LED's on all the time. I did wrap the electrical tape people mention on the clips to hold the light fixture in the clips. I product works as expected, I just hope the LED longevity is satisfactory.

These LED's are great.

I have a 80 gallon Cichlid tank (5' long) with 3 of these installed. 2 just didn't quite have enough effect for me.

The look of it is very impressive if you have water surface agitation, as it will shimmer on the bottom.

I've had these for a few months and they're good so far. They will work with a timer if you want.

All my fish are more active at night now, and 2 of them mated for the first time only days after I put these lights in.

My freshwater lobster also started coming out at night and exploring.

It's nice to see the aquarium life at night, and everybody in the tank seems happier now.

Apparently having moonlight is a much more vital part of aquarium life than most of us think.

If you are thinking of getting these, DO NOT HESITATE.

I've had these running as moonlights for a few days now. I like'em. I have the duals over my 54 corner. They have a nice spread over my near 38 inch wingspan. The on/off switch is nice but really just leave them on all the time. One power supply for both lights is nice.

They aren't the most rugged of lights but for the price I think they make sense. Replaced an old LED strip and even though both of these R2's together are half the size they emit much more light.

Let's see how the LED's fair over time. Hopefully they just work for years.
