Penn Plax Curved Corner Glass Aquarium Kit, 10-Gallon

Penn Plax Curved Corner Glass Aquarium Kit, 10-GallonI bought this tank for the seamless front as it's very modern in appearance. I love the glass tank itself and the internal filter seems quiet and capable but there are a few things I'd like to point out. The led light included is far too weak for anything other than simulated moonlight so you'll need to upgrade to a clip-on that will fit a rimless tank. I had an extra Fluval mini power 13W compact which works much better. The final thing I should mention is the lid is only a thin piece of plastic attached to hinges.

Pros: Aesthetic appearance, powerful internal filter with optional aeration, and a protective mat.

Cons: Weak lighting and flimsy hood. Basically you're paying for a pretty tank and internal filter, unless you're raising nocturnal species.

I like the wrap around feature of the glass which will create a better visual effect. I thought the filter was a little small and have purchased a different filter that hangs on the side. The included filter should be ok for most people though. Our first shipped tank had a scratch in the glass but Penn Plax replaced the entire kit. So I would not be hesitant to recommend their products to anyone.

The tank itself is sturdy and attractive! But the lid is kinda weak and flimsy! The light feature isn't the best made either! I will definitely be keeping the tank, but I will probably be replacing the lid with either thicker plexiglass or glass! And I will probably be buying better accessories too, but that's just part of the fun of setting an aquarium up!

Penn Plax Vertex Shrimp Tank, 2.7-Gallon

Penn Plax Vertex Shrimp Tank, 2.7-GallonJust received and set up this small aquarium for my betta, in fact, just in the knick of time as my plastic 1.5 gallon tank started to leak. Comes with almost all things you will need to make a betta a very happy home, filter, small net and even a stick-on thermometer. When I say almost, it did not come with a light and that is the reason I did not give it 5 stars. I had to purchase a separate LED light because I keep live plants in my tank. All in all a very attractive glass tank. The lid to me is fine because it is made of a plexiglass or light weight plastic which makes it light to open compared to a solid glass lid and if it needs to be cleaned it is very easily removed. The only other small detail that is missing is a feeding hole. You need to lift the lid to feed and it doesn't stay up because it hits the front of the filter, but again since it is plexiglass you can drill a hole in it to make your own feeding hole or you can feed through the space behind the lid. It has curved front corners which you usually do not find in small tanks. I believe this one is listed as 2.7 gallon which again I find as a nice size for a betta, if you do not have the space to have a bigger tank. My betta was happy in the 1.5 gallon, but since I was adding driftwood along with my live plants, and of course my small 7.5 heater, I decided I would get a little bigger size glass tank and this one fit my needs with a reasonable price. I would recommend this tank.

Bought this tank for my betta after realising that his 0.9 gal tank was much too small. It's large enough for him to have room to spread out and swim around in now, but not so large that it can't sit on my night table and is difficult to move.

The lid is a bit flimsy, but the glass tank is very nice and sturdy, with rounded front corners and square back ones. The filter is quiet, although I haven't been able to find somewhere that sells replacement filters. Although, I haven't searched too hard. The tank holds the filter, a heater, a thermometer, two plants, a large rock, and a 8-inch castle figurine all very nicely without seeming crowded.

Sadly, he hasn't been able to spend much time in it due to coming down with a fungal and bacterial infection (not due to the tank), but I'm excited to have him get better and to be able to return to his new home.

Buy Penn Plax Vertex Shrimp Tank, 2.7-Gallon Now

This tank is beautiful and excluding the flimsy lid, works great. The filter is a bit strong for a betta but my main problem is that they do not sell filter refills on Amazon or the Penn Plax website and these are not carried by Petsmart, Petco, or Walmart. I have to return it as I cannot purchase filter refills.

Hydor Koralia Nano 240 Aquarium Circulation Pump 240 GPH

Hydor Koralia Nano 240 Aquarium Circulation Pump 240 GPHBought this for my planted 37 gallon tank to circulate a dead spot in my aquarium. This is my 1st Koralia or water circulation pump and was worried that it would blow away my fish and plants all over so I bought this under sized one instead of the Koralia Nano 425 which was rated for my tank size. I was surprised at how it circulates well for a big tank. It creates a dispersed and gentle current, unlike a powerhead that blasts a stream of water in a single direction. My fish has also perked up, they seem to like the gentle current and I often see them swimming around it. Also, it's nice to see the leaves on my plant sway with the current.

As for my dead spot, this little thing took care of it and water is clearer. I have it aimed down and towards my Fluval C4 and any detritus or fish poop is pushed towards it. The magnetic suction cup is awesome, it gives you flexibility of putting this Koralia anywhere in your tank without worrying about the suction cup wearing out. Did I mention the size of this thing? It's slightly larger than an egg but does not take up a lot of space. Others have mentioned the red ball clip that attaches to the magnetic suction cup may break, but in my experience it's a solid piece and unless you are putting a lot of force and stress on it, then yes it will break.

Recommend this product highly!

I have a 29 gal reef aquarium, and I am very happy with the amount of movement its creating , I would say perfect for my 29 gal

If you are looking to create cross flow in a small nano (I use it on my Nano cube 12) this is perfect. I had a much larger water mover in there, and it was just too much.. This is powerful enough for small tanks and created a great flow throughout the tank when paired with the Hydor spinner on the tanks pump output.

I do not think I would use this on anything larger then a 12 or bio cube 14. If I where to have a 20 long, or even a 28 nano cube I would opt for something a little more powerful.

It is small, and not very obstructive of viewing even when placed towards the front of the tank.

I really love this product. This is my second one. I searched for the smallest size and this is what I came up with. My fish seems to struggle with my larger one like they were in a sea storm which I really didn't like it seem to stress them out. I found this and I love it and the fish love it they can swim in calm sea's again! It's a great product just right for what I was looking for. The corals sway just enough and I'm very happy with this size and this product. I would recommend it to everyone and would purchase another. It is very quiet and super easy to install. price was also great

All Glass Aquarium AAG29602 Versa Top, 26bf

All Glass Aquarium AAG29602 Versa Top, 26bfOnly problem is that it's a hair short for my aqueon 26 bow. If you put it on and it moves to one side the other falls off the edge.

It maybe my tank which measures 23 1/2 " on the inside diameter. Will adapt.

This top is so much better looking then the hood that came with my 26 gal bow front. Adds a whole new dimension to my aquarium as the top can now be seen through compared to the black plastic hood I had. It'd be nice if the top was more snug in the aquarium frame, but it's large enough that there's no way it can fall through. I'd recommend this top, especially if you have an Aqueon bow front as there are few options for hoods/tops for these aquariums. Love my bow front, even more now with the Versa Top!

Buy All Glass Aquarium AAG29602 Versa Top, 26bf Now

I have a bowfront aquarium that was given to me a few years back, so I don't know the brand or details. the lid I got with it broke, and turns out these lids are a little hard to come by, at least where I live. So this looked like a good replacement for us, the size (width) is correct, however when it arrived it didn't fit correctly.

The front is much more curved than my tank, and front-to-back there is a small gap, probably 1/2" So essentially I have 2 gaps at the front corners because the curve on my tank is less pronounced that this lid. Not the end of the world, however my tank is now losing much more water due to evaporation than ever before. Sort of a pain, but we will just deal with it. We figured hey, it's already at our house, and the chances of finding the exact size/shape lid that our tank requires was probably going to be next to impossible. So bottom line, it's only acceptable (for us) because of a lack of anything else.

But it really does seem like a good quality product, and was shipped fast.

When I saw this Versa Top on Amazon I was apprehensive about ordering it but it looked like the one I wanted. So I took a chance and I was very happy that I did. It fit my 26 gal. tank perfectly. I am very happy with it and it has reduced a lot of evaporation from my tank.

Fits perfectly on my Aqueon tank. Install took only a few minutes. As always with these tanks it it a little tough to cut out where the filter goes, but not a big deal. Just make sure you put the pull for the front lid up far enough. I put mine too far back and it makes it a little awkward.

Hagen Laguna Pro Fish Net, 15-1/2-Inch by 18-1/2-Inch by 29-1/2 to 55-Inch Metal Handle

Hagen Laguna Pro Fish Net, 15-1/2-Inch by 18-1/2-Inch by 29-1/2 to 55-Inch Metal HandleMy old net finally had the net fall off the handle and it can no longer be shoved back on. This has a much better design and looks like it will last a long time. Also, the hanging loop makes for very easy storage. The shape also allows for "trapping" a medium to large goldfish (medium to small koi) in a certain spot while still allowing it a bit of freedom.

This is by far the best fish net I have ever bought! The handle and the extendable shaft are very, very sturdy. I can easily reach the bottom of my pond to remove the leaves without the shaft bending. This makes me very happy. The plastic guard at the top of the frame is another reason I love this net. My old nets were easily torn and ripped when the net was loaded with leaves or fish or water from the pond because the net was unable to sustain the weight. I definitely recommend this net to anyone who has a fish pond. It is a must have!

Prime shipment was quite impressive, got it less than 24 hrs after I ordered.

The net and its handle are made of good quality material. In my case, I only have small pond (300 gallon Rubbermaid tank) so the extension of the handle is somewhat a mute point for me. But I did test it and it worked fine. The net has been sewn together quite well and there is no ridges that may hurt the fish. I actually used the net to transfer my 7 X 12 in KOIs from old tank to the new one. Boy oh boy, they were not happy being lifted off the tank and they twisted and twirled a lot. But so far, there were no scratch marks on them at all.

I now use this same net to remove the leaves and pine cones that happened to fall in to my pond. It works pretty well. The small loop of string at the end of the handle is handy to hang it near by. The one thing that I am not quite used to it is that the net frame is not firmly lock to the handle. I mean it can still rotate around the handle. May be it has been designed to be like that.

TOM Nature's Art - 5/8gal Betta Kit

TOM Nature's Art - 5/8gal Betta KitThis tank is far too small and a bad shape to be a healthy place for a betta to live. If you want to get a fish, get one as a pet and treat it as such, with the same care and consideration you'd give to any pet. It's not a decorative item, it's a living thing. A betta looks just as pretty in a decent-sized tank of at least a gallon as it does in something like this, anyway. You want scenery, put a picture behind the tank. If you use this product, you're likely to be decorating with a dead fish within a couple of months.

You could barely scrape the surface of research into keeping bettas as pets, and discover that a betta would live a miserable couple of months in a container like this. Bettas are beautiful, but they only stay beautiful when they're cared for properly. Standard aquariums make just as nice a centerpiece as this thing, and you can even customize a tank with your own picture printed out and secured to the back wall of the tank. You can get a 2.5gal tank--plenty of room for betta to frolic and thrive--at Petsmart for $10, and you won't even have to pay for shipping.

This a great size aquarium, it came in bigger then expected. The stand that the aquarium is placed on is not sturdy. It is made very cheap. My aquarium almost fell off of it. I will prob. just sell this one, and get a nicer aquarium for my betta. It is truly not worth the money.

This is the most unbelievable product I have seen to date for Betta Fish. Next thing people will have them inside a matchbox. This product is both inhumane, inadequate and cruel. Betta fish are tropical fish that require a heated tank, space to swim..... yup, imagine that, a very gentle filter, fresh plants and a minimum of 3 gallons. I have mine in 5 gallon and 10 gallon tanks.

I am so disappointed at Amazon for selling this product. It just perpetuates the myth that Betta fish are disposable and that they are essentially toys.

I will encourage all my friends on Fishlore and other aquarium forums to boycott Amazon. Really folks???

Mardel Maracyn-Two Powder Packets Water Treament (Freshwater), 24ct

Mardel Maracyn-Two Powder Packets Water Treament, 24ctMaracyn 2 is a synthetic form of the tetracycline class of antibiotics and is more broad spectrum than others. This is a very effective antibiotic which can be combined with Maracyn or used by itself. It is one of the best antibiotics that can be purchased for fish disease. It is also very safe so overdosing shouldn't cause any issues. One thing to note is that this product like all tetracycline type antibiotics become dangerous after they have expired. Once the expiration date passes it must be disposed of.

This medication is especially effective for septicemia and fin/tail rot. It can also be used to treat popeye and dropsy. Another benefit of this antibiotic is that it acts as an anti-inflammatory, helping to reduce redness and swelling.

Make sure you remove any carbon/chemical media from your aquarium filter when using this. If you keep this media in, it will absorb the medication and potentially cause antibiotic resistance. Also make sure you treat for the stated time. Like any antibiotic, not following the proper dosage and timings can make it ineffective and again lead to resistance as only some bacteria are destroyed while the others that survive mutate and proliferate.

Also just a tip, add some Aquarium Salt to the aquarium while treating for disease as this will help in healing, as well as help prevent advantageous parasites from complicating things further. Do not use regular table salt as it contains iodine! Aquarium salt is cheap, available on Amazon and it will last you forever.

*****

Update:

Just thought I would add some more info to this post as this is really the only available antibiotic for fish diseases on Amazon.

This antibiotic is effective in freshwater but not really in salt water aquarium's. Hard water will also reduce the effectiveness of this antibiotic as it is absorbed by dissolved calcium in the water.

Although this antibiotic can be used to treat dropsy, it can be especially taxing on the kidney's. Because dropsy is caused by the kidneys failing to remove water/fluids from the inside of the fish, it can make things much worse. Kanamycin is the best for this disease.

I have had pretty good success with mixing this antibiotic with fish food rather than treating the aquarium water. If you have a large aquarium, or don't have access to another tank, this method may be more economical and even more effective.

To treat this way you have to 1st be sure your sick fish are still eating!

-Take a small cup and throw in some pelleted fish food. Add some hot water, just a bit more than what would be necessary to cover all the food, then mix in half a packet of the Maracyn-2.

-Leave it for 1-2 hours to allow the food to soak up the solution. You should also swirl the contents a few times.

-Dispose of the leftover solution and place the treated pellets in the aquarium. Make sure your fish are eating them!

-If you choose to go this route, you should feed the fish these medicated pellets daily, and continue to do so a few days after the disease appears to have been cured.

You may want to try soaking the pelleted fish food you have in some tap water 1st to make sure they wont just completely dissolve in the water.

"New Life Spectrum THERA A" is a fish food available on Amazon which by itself, help's with fish diseases. I have found that these pellets do not breakup and are able to absorb quite a bit of the solution. It is available in numerous pellet sizes. Be sure to get the Thera A version.

If anyone has questions about this or treating fish diseases, leave a comment. I have had to learn quite a bit about fish diseases over the years as I attempted to extend the life of a fish that had Tuberculosis.

Maracyn-Two works very well. It actually cured dropsy in one of my fancy goldfish about 2 years ago. You should keep it on hand ready to use, because you have to act fast (if it is dropsy). It also works well on fin rot and I have used it 3 or 4 times for that. You don't have to be in a big hurry if it is fin rot.

I don't use a hospital tank. I treat the whole 30 gallon tank with this stuff. It does not seem to hurt the beneficial bacteria that get rid of ammonia. It also does not bother the other fish in the tank that are not sick. Doesn't faze them a bit, although you would think so, since it does make the water look a little yellow and cloudy. I can't think of a worse thing to do to a sick fish than to take it out of its home and into a hospital tank. Besides, it takes a month to get a new tank up and running (cycled). Just treat the whole home tank. Will take a lot of packets of this stuff, so the little 8 packet box won't do much good. Get the 24 packets. Don't be afraid to use this stuff. It won't hurt anything.

The directions are pretty good. Read them all, not just on the box, but inside. The diagnostic chart inside is very good. The only thing I thought was vague in the instructions was what to do if you want to do 2 5-day treatments back to back. I think the best advise is to stop after the first 5-day treatment and do the water change and put carbon in, for 3 days. Then after that 3-day "rest" period do the second 5-day treatment. But you probably won't need it. If you do, another approach would be to try a different med, like Maracyn Plus maybe. These Mardel meds are the real deal.

Note this Maracyn-Two is for freshwater. I think there is a separate product for salt water.

By the way, I would not use potted plants in the aquarium. The little bit of dirt on the root ball will have lots of foreign bacteria that your fish have never encountered before. Dropsy bacteria are in dirt. My fish that had dropsy, it started 4 days after I put a potted plant in the aquarium.

I am extremely impressed with this product. Now, I'm not master fish keeper, but I noticed right away when my little red betta wasn't being himself. He would float at the top of his tank almost looking dead, and he was developing cottony white patches on his little bum and tail fin. I did some research and found he had a fungal infection. This product was recommended at my local fish store, so I gave it a try.

He lives in a very small tank so I only put a tiny pinch in his water after doing a full water change. The next day, his white patches are almost COMPLETELY gone, and he's swimming around like he used to, eating enthusiastically, and has the life put right back in him.

This stuff is a life-saver! I'm impressed with how quickly it worked, and relieved I don't have to worry about my little guy any more.

EcoPlus Submersible Pump - 1056 gph

EcoPlus Submersible Pump - 1056 gphI bought this pump to pump raw maple tree sap from my storage barrels into the boiler pans. It pumps up 8 feet, over 10 feet then goes down 4 feet to the pan. It pumps an easy 10 gallons through a half inch hose in this manner in maybe 5 minutes, which is plenty fast. I only use it in the spring during maple run that lasts maybe a month. But when I am boiling it will run maybe 20 times a day. So far ,so good.

This pump is priced right, works well and we are very pleased with it. We use two of these pumps on our Koi pond and are pleased with the results.
