Aqueon AQE36007 Biocube Ultraviolet Algae Sterilizer for Aquarium, Mini

Aqueon AQE36007 Biocube Ultraviolet Algae Sterilizer for Aquarium, MiniThis product is a nice sterilizer and can be used in a wide variety of applications, even though it was designed for BioCubes specifically. If you're interested in this product then I would recommend you buy it; there is no reason I can find not to.

I am using this UV Sterilizer in an older model BioCube 14 Gal. I had one of the previous models of this unit and they work very well. The older unit had the indicater window on the top of the unit and it was small. You had to open the top of the BioCube to check if the UV light was working. The newer model has a larger window on the side of the unit, large enough that I can peak through the water line window on the side of the BioCube and actuly see the glow from the window showing that the bulb was in good working order.

I ordered a new one, not because the first unit had stopped working but because the 90 degree angle plastic that connects the unit to the discharge port cracked and it was only an extra 20 to get a new unit after the bulb blew. I only gave the unit four stars because of that angle peice didn't have an improved plastic material or better fit so I am hoping it wont crack agian.

I put this in my Biocube 14. Every time I do a water quality check, it's perfect. I have a friend who has the same thing. His bulb went out within the first month for some reason (I think it was operator error). He called the company, and without any issue, they sent him a whole new replacement unit...not just a bulb. Very impressive.

This is a great compact effective sterilizer for nano cubes up to 29 gallons. It's crafted specifically for Oceanic/Coralife Biocubes, but includes a universal adapter for other nano cubes. If you have a Biocube, this will hook up to existing pump. If you don't have Biocube, then you need to have a pump. Recommend Cobalt Aquatics MJ1200 which is original Maxijet still built in Italy. Works great and has kept my saltwater crystal clear. The biggest mistake that many people make is to run cheaper sterilizers on 24/7 basis. This will only result in burning out bulbs quickly, but you don't really need round the clock sterilization. I run mine for only 24hrs weekly and is effective. The more expensive high-end sterilizers ($200) have better build quality and can handle being run 24/7. Keep this mind when using any inexpensive sterilizers and you'll be alright. Keep an extra bulb on hand too.

Aquarium Nano Skimmer II

Aquarium Nano Skimmer III like this skimmer. Pulls a lot of gunk out of my tank. I use it in my 24 gallon Aqua pod. Nice product.

I have a 29 gallon biocube that I had drilled so I could add a sump. This little skimmer really does work. Started skimming light "tea colored" skimmate on the very first day and after a day or two I had it dialed in to a dark, yet watery skimmate. I don't think I will be able to get a thick skimmate, but it does work. My only complaint is the cup size is small. It does require daily emptying but I took some advice from another reviewer and I just suck out the contents with a turkey baster....overall I'm quite pleased. Once again, I have this skimmer standing in a small sump. I did not try to mount it in the back chambers of the biocube although I think it would fit. I just mentioned the biocube to relate the water volume I'm using this skimmer on.

I was hesitant to buy this after reading some of the negative reviews but I didn't want to pay over twice the price for the Hydor. I just wanted an inexpensive protein skimmer for a 15 gallon frag tank (salt water corals). It does produce lots of tiny bubbles in the raiser...a good thing. I didn't get much scum the first few days but now, after a week, I'm having to empty it almost every day. I use a turkey baster to empty the collection cup. So, great price for a little protein skimmer that does work. However if you have a 30 gallon reef tank or larger, I'd get the Hydor.

I have this skimmer in my JBJ 28gal nanocube and it is skimming well on day three. Took a slight modification to the outlet tube to get it into the skimming chamber on my tank (cut off the elbow). It is a wetter skim then I expected but works well.

I am using this skimmer on my old 24 gal AquaPod. It took a few days to break in. PLEASE NOTE!!! You must wash this skimmer before setting it up.

I feel like this is the best nano skimmer option for a tank 34 gal or smaller.

It pulls out a decent amount of waste for such a small skimmer. I am a happy customer!!

AquaClock Wall Aquarium

AquaClock Wall Aquarium, BlackThis is a terrible "home" for a betta. The general public is terribly misinformed about this fish's care and requirements. Here are the problems with this setup:

1. Bettas need to be fed more than just 2 or 3 times a week.

2. Too small! Not only does the fish not have any room to swim in, in a container of this size ammonia (toxic fish byproduct) will build up within hours. Daily water changes will be needed to keep the water safe. Not to mention that in this thing the temperature could wildly fluctuate. Bettas are tropical fish and need to be kept at a constant 78-80*F. A recommended setup for this fish is a 3+ gallon filtered, heated, and decorated home.

3. No decoratons Betta fish (and most other fish) need hiding sports to feel secure. This provides absolutely nothing.

The only reason this is The world's only clock that is a fish tank is because it is a stupid idea. Paying $70 for this is ridiculous. For the same price you could buy and decorate a much bigger, more beautiful tank. Buy this only if you want to kill your fish.

Please disregard the reviewer who wrote the glowing review about this product. This clock/tank is not a proper tank for even sea monkeys, let alone a betta fish. First of all, a half gallon tank is not proper housing for a betta fish unless it is to place him in something when you make water changes. Secondly the tank does not allow you to put a heater in it. Bettas requires to be in heated water somewhere between 75 to 80 degrees. Finally, bettas love to swim in and around plants and ornaments. Another thing is water changes. Betta fishes are sensitive to ammonia in the water. With a half gallon tank, a person would have to make daily water changes, no if's, and's, or but's about it. Bettas require to be in clean water. There is no place to put anything for the fish to keep busy or hide in case he or she feels insecure and shy. For $70 you can get a 10 gallon aquarium kit and an adjustable heater. Or if you are super cheap, get a medium/large Kritter Keeper and an adjustable heater, and make water changes every 2 to 3 days if the Kritter Keeper is unfiltered. Either way both options are better,so avoid this stupid AquaClock like the plague. This is a bad design all around. The company who makes it is just profiting off bad information about caring for betta fishes.

This is really terrible. Betta fish require AT LEAST 2 gallons of water(that need to be 72-84 degrees and conditioned). Yes, the fish can survive in these conditions for an amount of time, but you will have a piece of animal torture hanging on your wall.

RESEARCH! Before buying ANY animal. These fish actually AREN'T "puddle" fish.

Read Best Reviews of AquaClock Wall Aquarium Here

The only type of fish that should be kept in a clock like this are plastic toy fish. Nothing can live and thrive in something like this. If you buy this, and put a live fish in it, you are practicing animal cruelty.

Want AquaClock Wall Aquarium Discount?

This is SICK! S-I-C-K. This contains less then a 1/2 gallon of water. That's half a milk jug! But it's even worse then just putting a betta in half a milk jug because in here there is NO room for decoration or plants, or even swim space and theres barely space to SWIM AROUND. ITS SICK. Go out and spend your freaking 70 dollars on a 10 gallon, 5 gallon, or even a 2.5 gal tank at freaking petco! Buying this is equivelant to taking your betta and throwing it on the ground and watching it die.

Aqueon Mini Bow 5 Desktop Aquarium Kit

Aqueon 17774 Mini Bow 5 Desktop Aquarium Kit, BlackI bought mine at a local pet store about a month ago. I think it's great for what it is. A 5-gallon tank limits what species you can keep, but there's still some nice options. I would definitely do a little research before buying, because lot of popular fish require a 10-gallon tank, at least.

In mine, I've got 4 zebra danios and 2 African dwarf frogs. All seem to be quite happy and healthy. I divided the space up with rocks, driftwood and plants. It looks really nice, while giving the frogs places to hide and burrow, and the fish a lot to explore.

The filter isn't very powerful, but from what I understand, you don't want anything too strong for the species that do best in small tanks (dwarf frogs, bettas, etc.).

To maintain, I just replace 2 gallons of water once each week, and rinse out the filter. I don't understand the complaints here about not being able to find replacement filters--I just ordered a set of 3 from Amazon for about $5. They do get gunky pretty fast, so I plan on replacing them monthly.

Somebody else mentioned that the light bulb burnt out in less than a month. Mine's still going, but I only keep it on for about 12 hours a day. When it does burn out I'll probably replace it with a compact florescent anyway. Less heat than an incandescent, brighter colors, and longer life.

I did have to buy a $15 heater, but that's species dependent. For the most part, I think this is a great starter kit. I got it for my son's room. He likes looking at the fish and frogs, and it's pretty easy for me to maintain, so I'm happy with it.

I bought this tank to be used as a segregation tank for my new or ill fish.

I have a 45 gallon tank that houses freshwater fish. When I buy new fish, I like to segregate them and treat them automatically for illness before I put them in with my other fish. I have learned the hard way, that it is much easier to do this than treat my large tank and all the fish when just one is ill.

It has everything I wanted, (filter, light, and small size), except I did want a heater as well. (Better for treating ill fish. Truthfully, I don't know any kits that actually include the heater...) I had a small heater left over from a previous tank and use that. Otherwise, I would have bought one that actually fits the Mini Bow. It's size makes it very easy to clean. I don't keep my fish in there long term, but for my purposes...it is GREAT!

It is a perfect starter tank for kids, too. They can try the whole fish thing without overcommitting to a bigger tank that an adult would HAVE to clean for safety sake.

THE FILTERS CAN BE ORDERED on . My local fish store and our petsmart also only carry the medium and larger filters. My local store is trying to supply the small ones, but for now, I am fine ordering them online.

I have 2 of these tanks a 5gal and 2gal. I have had these tanks for YEARS. They have not been running for the 5 years I have had them but I have used them for betta fish, plants, breeding shrimp, raising Fry, and hospital tank. It's been my back up tank. Right now I have it set up for breeding Bee shrimp. I have since switched the filter and added a heater. I love the light hood never had a problem. I use a 13watt CF light and it works great and the plants love it.

So my main problem with this tank is quality. It's not a quality acrylic tank. The bow front distorts viewing. It's hard to clean off alge because you don't want to scratch the plastic. Also the small bow shape makes it a bit tricky to clean with a magnet cleaner. I put an old sock on my hand and used that to clean it. I like the size of this tank but I am looking for another tank it's time to replace it.

Nice for the price don't expect much it scratches real easy. Great little starter tank for betta fish or kids room I have been keeping fish for 13 years I have 5 tanks up and running ranging in 100gal 5gal.

Little Giant 566535 Air Pump

Little Giant 566535 Air PumpThis is not an inexpensive product, as aquarium air pumps go. I paid about $50 for it including shipping. It was the only pump I could find that I could attach an inlet tube to, in order to draw aquarium air from outside (I had lost my favorite fish to indoor air pollution when a floor was refinished). When new, the air output was adequate, but barely so. As time went by, this declined, until after 15 months air was barely dribbling out of the airstones. I thought the small foam filter at the outlet might be plugged, but removing it entirely did not improve performance. I then measured the output pressure with a gauge. It registered zero. In contrast, 3 Tetra air pumps I had that were much older (and cheaper) measured 0.75, 1.1, and 2.1 psi. I have figured out how to add an inlet tube to one of the Tetra pumps, and will go that route. Since the Little (VERY Little) Giant cannot be opened up to be serviced, it is now basically junk. There's a good grounded power cord I can salvage from it, but that's about it. My advice: don't buy this pump.

We have a small pond, a fountain really (~40 gal), with a number of gold fish in it and wanted to help them winter over. Got this pump to use as a "bubbler" (submerged) in combination with a 100w heater. When it's thawed here we see our fish still moving, albeit slowly, so it's worked well for our needs.

Buy Little Giant 566535 Air Pump Now

All of the pond advice says to have a pond heater/de-icer and aeration to maintain a hole in the ice for the fish. I live in Minnesota. Currently the temperature is -9 F with a predicted high of -3 and the wind chill is approaching -30 F. This is supposed to last for a few days...

The de-icer is frozen in the pond, but the Little Giant submerged about 2 feet in the pond is blowing air and the ice has still has not completely frozen over above it. While I will not know if the fish make it until spring, I am completely satisfied with this air pump and next year, I will not be using the de-icing heater all I would take it out now, but it is frozen in place until the ice thaws.

When I set up the pump, I submerged it in the water and ran the air line under the deck near the house. I even placed a plastic cup around the open end of the air line to make sure no debris would clog the opening. This seems to be the key to operation in extreme cold temperatures: submerge the pump and protect the air line intake opening.

I bought this pump in 2011 and used it out of the water to pump air into my pond. The line froze during the winter of 2011 so in 2012 I put the pump in the water (this is an option per the pump instructions). Now the pump doesn't work at all. I can't see a way to take the pump apart and try to repair it. I can't find a way to contact the company directly...

Mardel Freshwater CopperSafe

Mardel Freshwater CopperSafeI have a small tank (5-1/2 gallon) with 4 fancy guppies and 2 cory catfish. One of the catfish developed white spots and red streaks, appeared to have balance problems & stopped eating, while all of the other fish seemed to remain healthy. I am new at keeping fish, and admit I have no idea exactly what was affecting this catfish. I removed him to a hospital tank and dosed him with a different product which clearly hurt rather than helped. I returned him to the main tank and dosed it with a combination of Mardel Coppersafe and Maracyn Two. This caused no adverse reaction from any of the fish, and the ailing catfish began to look better. After five days of the combination meds, the catfish has no signs of distress and the spots and red streaks have completely disappeared. I hadn't thought he would survive, but he is now busily searching for food and he looks healthy. I will continue treatment with Coppersafe for a total of 30 days to be sure there are no more infestations in the tank or filter. Coppersafe does not die the water blue nor does it stain the tank. Mardel Customer Service was easy to reach and very helpful when I had questions about their products. Coppersafe used with Maracyn Two treats a wide spectrum of problems and certainly worked well for me.

I researched this product and found it recommended by many people, it worked just as described. I had contracted a bad case of anchor worms in my tank and was concerned that medication would harm the Blue Lobster that lives with my fish. This products direction said it can be used with invertebrates in the tank. I am pleased to say, this product has cleared up the infection and we are all happy including the Blue Lobster.

Buy Mardel Freshwater CopperSafe Now

Doesn't say anywhere in the instruction that it may be harmful, but it killed my BN pleco. I did the research afterward that I should have done in the first place and found that this is a common complaint. My low rating is because it should have a warning about the risk to those kinds of fish, not just invertebrates and plants. The tank didn't have ich, I was just using it as a preventative.

Aquarium Products Ammonia Test Strips (Freshwater), 100ct

Aquarium Products Ammonia Test Strips, 100ctHeed the warning of the other reviewer if you really want this product: get the small bottle! I ignored it and got this bottle anyway and, just like the other person, my bottle came within just a couple months of its expiration meaning that I will likely have to throw out at least half if not more.

The real reason I don't like this product is because you have to use the test tube and shake the strips in the tube for 30 seconds which is really a pain when testing multiple aquariums. I prefer a quick reading and will stick with the Quick Dip strips JUNGLE AMMONIA NO VIAL 25 CT from now on.

I bought this bottle of a hundred strips...the short expiration time hit when I was less than halfway through. After that the test gets unreliable and hard to color match. But it is a good product...just buy a smaller bottle if you don't use it very often.

Buy Aquarium Products Ammonia Test Strips (Freshwater), 100ct Now

I like this product because it's relatively quick and simple. Regular ammonia tests take about 15-20min to show accurate results, but this only takes about 3min total from start to finish.

There is a major downside to this product and that is accuracy. The test is never even close to accurate when compared to two other regular testing kits which use a vial and chemical drops over a 15-20min period to show results. I think this is a good "quick" test but it should not be used as the only test. I now use the strips to watch for changes in the ammonia levels as opposed to trying to get an accurate reading. Ammonia should always be as close to 0 as possible, but realistically I try to keep it below 0.25ppm. The test strips always tell me that the ammonia is around 1.0 which is unsafe for my fish, but my two regular test kits indicate that my ammonia is between 0-0.25ppm which is safe for my fish. So the test really isn't accurate, but it does register changes so when the strip says it's higher than 1.0ppm I can usually see a slight increase when I test with the test kits. At first I thought it might be close to the expiration date like some other reviews said, but my bottle is good until April 2013.

I recommend this product as a quick test to watch for changes, but I don't recommend this as the only test you use. Monitoring water quality levels is important, and high ammonia is toxic for most fish so it is important to understand the accurate levels.

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 1400-Gallon Per Hour

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 1400-Gallon Per HourAfter reading many negative reviews about the Quiet One pumps on some aquarium forums, I decided to still go ahead and give this pump a try. I owned a couple of the older models of the Quiet One pumps and they were a bit more noisy, also had restart problems, but they lasted a long time. The new Quiet One 5000 has improved significantly. The pump is solid and does not feel cheap. It restarts without any problem and is EXTREMELY quiet. It does not come with rubber suction cups to dampen the vibration like most other submersible pumps, but it does include a rubber like adhesive pad you can put on the bottom. I also placed a piece of filter foam underneath it to absorb any residual vibration. This pump delivers plenty of power and flow from my 45 gallon sump return to my 120 gallon aquarium. In fact, even with a couple of 90 degree elbows, and "T", along with a 5' head, this pump needs to be dialed back with a ball valve. My overflow is capable of 1000 gph so I know this pump is not losing much flow.

The name Quiet One does not really refer to its operation as it is everything but.. It does raise the temp of the water, for the price I would expect more!! Look at your other choices...

Zoo Med AquaSun Aquarium Controller Timer & Power Strip

Zoo Med AquaSun Aquarium Controller Timer & Power StripThe timer is your typical manual timer with pins that are up or down dependent on when you want the lights, feeders, etc. on. One side is timed, the other side is not, which means that you have four outlets for things that need to be turned off (lights) and four outlets for things that get left on (filter and air pump, e.g). There is a switch on the side that allows you to easily override the timer. My only complaint is that by orienting the outlets as they are, large plugs need to trimmed slightly to fit. Another 1/8" would have made a big difference, or if the outlets were rotated 90 degrees then the large plugs would not be an issue. I am very satisfied with it, and gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel that the product could have been better designed and tested before marketing it.

Seriously disappointed with this purchase so far. A fantastic value, but mine (which I am assuming is defective and will be trying to exchange) shuts off even when the pegs to keep it on are in the down position. It appears that the wheel that the pegs turn actually pushes them up as it moves against it. I initially thought it was happening only when the timer made the transition from off to on, so the off cycle grew gradually longer, but it has started happening mid cycle now, which stresses my pets.

I intend to attempt to exchange it and hopefully be able to update this review with more positive things to say.

0 stars... Bought this light timer at Petsmart just now and I set it up (I've set many a light timer in my day) and everything seemed well. Went to make some lunch, looked over 5 minutes after set up and it was off. It pushes the pins up by itself like other reviews state. And now it won't even work in the "all outlets ON" position. Crap. Awful light timer. Do not buy.

The timer works like it should. I have 2 lights and a powerhead that come on during the day hours, while a filter, heater, and air pump are constant powered. I have a separate wall timer on a GFI outlet for my submersible LED lamps (beware the AquaSun Timer cannot support LED low voltage transformers side-by-side due to lack of space).

I've had it about a week, and so far it does not tick loudly. I replaced a programmable timer with this one and haven't had problems.

Tetra Tank Nibblers, Tuna, 18-Count

Tetra Tank Nibblers, Tuna, 18-CountI have over fifty baby guppies in a 60 gallon tank and I put a tablet on the glass and they went crazy for it....I enjoyed watching them....My son came over and was entertained watching the guppies have a feeding frenzy so he borrowed some from me and had a ball watching his fish tear it up. My suggestion is dont put it accross from your filter and it wont desolve so fast. I got the veggie flavored but I plan on getting the other flavors. The only place I know that sells them is Walmart.

So I used 2 tablets in my 10 gallon tank, none of my fish touched it. I used the first one, and then left to go to the bathroom, I returned a couple minutes later and the tablet was no where to be found. I assumed they had ate it all so I put in one more so I could watch them eat, and it started to disintegrate as I watch, I went to remove it and it fell apart in my hand. Overnight the tank was cloudier than the time I thought it would be a good idea to try to feed the fish cilantro.

Before this all happened I had put 2 teaspoons (1 tablespoon) of aquarium salt in for my molly. I highly doubt it made the water cloudy because it had dissolved several hours (and the water was clear) before using the tablets. The only other thing I did is use an algae wafer for my bottom feeders and feed my fish tropical flakes. I do know it's almost time to change the filter, but I doubt the filter is why I had overnight cloudy water. I truly feel that is was these tablets. Needless to say, but I'm not going to use them any time soon and I'm going to do a partial change is see if it improves, if not I'm going to have to clean it, or try some of the those drops that are supposed to clear it up. And I will change the filter as well.

Buy Tetra Tank Nibblers, Tuna, 18-Count Now

My fish love this treat. Works as advertised, just stick it to the inside of the tank and watch the fish go crazy. Just make sure you stick the correct side -one side of the tablet is indented, that is where you put your finger when pressing it to the side of the tank.

It did disintegrate pretty rapidly (2-3 mins). My tank has a lot of circulation, however, which may have contributed. Eventually the tablet fell off and settled to the bottom. This product is good as an occasional treat but I would not use it too often due to the amount of food it spread throughout the tank.

One other note: I was OK with the price ($5 as of this posting) but later I found it at Walmart for $1.

Exotic Environments Egyptian Vase Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Egyptian Vase Aquarium OrnamentI bought this vase today at my local major pet retail chain. I was looking to replace a bridge for my betta fish Khufu (the paint on four ends of the bridge was falling off). I didn't see any other bridges so I opted for this vase. I must say I like this vase better than a bridge and apparently so does Khufu. He pretty much took to the vase right away. Usually it takes a day or two for my bettas to figure out the purpose of the ornament I place into their tanks. I think it is really adorable seeing my boy Khufu swim in and out of his vase, and it is even cuter when I see his cute face sticking out of the top of the vase. I am glad I bought this vase for my betta fish. It has proven to a source of amusement for him. If there is one thing I have learned from my bettas, they love swimming in and out of things like vases. It alleviates their boredom in captivity.

My Betta fish instantly fell in love with this vase and spends a lot of time in it It's very dark inside, and sometimes I can't even see the fish while he's in it. I filed down some jagged edges with a nail file before placing it in the tank. No holes are too small for a betta fish.

Perfect size for any tank, and if you have a 10 gallon or larger, there will be a lot of room left for other decorations.

Smooth Rock Cave Ornament

Smooth Rock Cave OrnamentI love this ornament. It is the biggest round rock cave I've been able to find. I was looking for something that looked like Patrick's rock (from Spongebob) for my Bikini Bottom tank setup and this is PERFECT.

I would only warn other customers that the back isn't round, it's a little lumpier, though it's not shown in the photo. I had wanted to turn it around so that the entrance wasn't visible, but it didn't look like Patrick's rock anymore when I did that.

It's still a really nice, well-made decoration and my fish LOVE it.

If you are looking for a resemblance to Patrick's rock, this is not the one for you. It is oblong and looks nothing like the photo. I am very disappointed. But if you just want a rock for your aquarium...it is great at being that....

My frogs were very skittish little guys, and this rock, after many failures with other ornaments, became their main home where I dropped their food for them.

Danner 01723 SP-290 290 GPH Statuary Pond Pump with Barb Fittings

Danner 01723 SP-290 290 GPH Statuary Pond Pump with Barb FittingsWe have a relatively small outdoor fountain, maybe 5-7 gallon capacity. It runs 24/7 all year round (we live in AZ). The birds love it and the falling water provides a nice white noise in the background. I find that pumps last about 1-1/2 to 2 years under these conditions. When the last one quit, I went to one of the large home centers to get a replacement but they were sold out. I found this one here on Amazon it's now installed and working nicely. Because it is used outside and it recirculates the same water over and over, the thin slots covering the impeller collect leaves, grass, bird feathers, etc. This pump has very fine slots which are excellent at trapping debris. Once a week or so, I have to pull off the cover and clean the slots. Not a hard job, but removing the cover requires a knife blade or thin screwdriver to pry it off. A thumbnail notch or a little handle would have been a nice addition to the design. I'm happy with this pump, it works well and it was priced fairly.
