The interior edges of the openings are Sharp. To make them safe for my Betta's delicate fins I sanded them down with a hand held rotary tool. (Please do this outside, or wearing a particle filter mask so you don't breath resin!) Looks great in the tank, and my fish loves the roomy interior :)
Bought this to put on my terrarium and it has been working out perfectly. I set the basking light on it and the turtle absolutely loves it. This a great screen for terrariums and you cannot beat the price or the quality. Very happy with this!

Four paws has seldom done me wrong and this fits into that category. I have purchased MANY of these tops for a lot of my reptile and rodent tanks. They are durable and look nice. You can plave the dome fixtures with heat lamps right on the tops without damage to the tops. Love them and will purchase them again and again!
These oxygen stones are great. Being a college student and all, I need to have some way of taking care of my fish during holiday breaks, long trips home, moving from dorm to apartment, etc. With these oxygen stones, I can take my fish outta their aquarium and into a travel-sized one and bring them with me whenever I'm traveling for long periods of time. It is great to be able to bring my fish with me and not have to worry about someone watching them or feeding them or anything. I bought a travel aquarium (with a handle and a light) and use these stones, They do last a long time. I mean when it says a month, it lasts a month. again make sure you put in one per fish. I ran out of stones and then carelessly made the mistake of using one stone for two fish, for about a month and a half of course my fish got sick. If your fish are large, you might want to drop in an extra stone or two. Again, great. I do reccomend. They're life savers, literally :) !!

They send up a bubble every minute or so, so it's gentle for fish that can't tolerate a current. The product falsely advertises that it keeps the tank clean for 30 days......more like 3 days. Before using these tablets, I used to clean my 1gallon fish tank ever 2 days, but now, with these tablets, it a whopping 3 days. You only get 5 tablets for ten dollars and I've had to use 2 tablets at a time since I have to little 2" tropical fish (1 tablet per fish). Never again!!
When I unpacked the pump the gray manifold on the front was not attached to it. I noticed that the two tabs that hold the pump to the manifold (the gray part of the pump in the picture) were damaged by whoever assembled the item they had just slammed the two pieces together and the tabs broke off. I needed the pump for a project so used some duct tape around the perimeter of the manifold to hold the two pieces together. That seemed to work.
Product description says that it is safe for fish and plants. Didn't mention that it was not safe for snails. When I tried to return it, it was a nightmare. The e-mail from Petco said that I could return it to a store or mail it. I called Petco and got my return slip. I was told by Petco that I could get a refund at the store. The store told me that I could only get a gift card because I bought it on Amazon. They say that it is their written policy but I cannot find that policy. Now they say that if I mail it back, I can get a refund. I do not believe anything that Petco tells me. Please don't by Petco products on Amazon. This is no fun at all. I have made a complaint to the seller, but I am not hopeful. I would avoid buying this product on Amazon.
The pore size is so much bigger and not as dense compare to the original one that came with the canister, I'm a bit disappointed....

These are definitely not the same quality as what you get when you buy the filter. They are super cheap, and the foam is spread out with much larger holes. Definitely won't do a good job filtering out larger particles.
This is a great filter that cleaned up my overpopulated 20 gal. tank overnight. The water went from murky to crystal clear and colorless in just hours. I had used two different hang-on-the-side power filters that would get clogged in 2 days and couldn't keep the water clear. Set-up of the Filstar was easy and full of options. Cleaning, when the flow rate does goes down, has also been a snap. It also runs very quietly. I highly recommend it.

I purchased this filter from Big Al's at about the same prize as Amazon had it. It is for one of my turtle tanks, two sliders on a 40 gallon breeder with about 12 gallon total volume. After a fairly easy initial set-up (you'll have to grease the hoses with vaseline for them to go in all the way) and priming following detailed instructions (the canister is currently located at the same level as the aquarium water, making it a bit tricky to completely fill in the canister compartments), I noticed at times a gargling noise, the canister was taking micro-bubbles. Upon further inspection I noticed a small leak from the electric line outlet at the motor housing. I thought maybe I got a Dud, however, instead of returning or calling for technical support, I decided to fill in around the cable with some of my aquarium safe silicon and ...vuala, the leak was corrected as well as the noise. Now what I have is a very powerful filter (it cleaned my turtle tank in a matter of minutes), crystal clear water, nice outflow through a spraybar outlet and it's even quieter than my eheim eccho. So quiet you can barely hear a faint huming...If I didn't see the spray bar outflow, I would have to put my ear on it, or touch it to feel the vibration and see if it's working. I also disconected the tubing valve, for a test maintenance rehearsal to know that it will be very easy to do so when required. Also you don't have to prime again since the hoses seal once you separate the tubing valve from the canister motor compartment. Just lift the level, a clean, easy and dry operation. Clean-up will be a breeze. Overall I'm very satisfied with this baby, I would have given it a 5 star ratings if it wasn't for the the initial water/air leak described above (maybe a manufacturing defect on my unit). I would remommend this to a friend and I would certainly buy again. I'll have to monitor long term performance, but so far, I'm satisfied with this product. I have used differen canister filters in the past for my fresh water 55 gal aquarium. Fluval and Marineland. So far this one is my favorite. It runs so quiet compared to the other ones I cannot hear it at all. The only problem I had was trying to fit the hose into the tubing. It is quite a task. I have a 20 gallon turtle tank and it has been SPOTLESS every since I bought this product on July 10th, 2012. The filter is a bit difficult to assemble but it is totally worth it. (there are also tutorials on youtube to help you assemble it step by step) The tubes are a bit tight fitting so MAKE SURE you use some olive oil, veggie oil, or vaseline so they slide on easier. The filter is super silent and the pressure of the water coming out of can be turned up for even more cleaning power or tuned down for silence while you sleep. Hand down best turtle filter I have ever owned. There is not one speck of algae, food, or poop on the floor. Totally worth the money. This has made owning a turtle the easiest task on the planet. I plan to move up to a bigger size tank because I know this filter can handle it. I LOVE IT. Highly recommend this filter to anyone with a turtle tank under 45 gallons.

The quality control on these must be terrible. While one worked (for how long, who knows...) the other rattled like it was full of rocks. Not even close to right.
Okay just being clear the new style skimmer I think is much better than the old one: I recently purchased the 125 model and it is being used on a 110 gallon FOWLR system as a HOB skimmer: It does not come with the best instructions but at the same time it's not hard to get running: I washed the unit before I put it in the tank to get the plastic film from production off the entire unit: Just warm water and a very small amount of vinegar in the kitchen sink: It started producing within an acouple of days: I must say it does sound a little noisy at first but mine did become quiter after about a week: I tried it first with the large round black sponge on the discharge tube and it worked: It just was to close the lights in my tank and started having some micro algea grow on it: I removed it and have not put it back on: adjustment of the skimmer is quite easy to me: Just turn the red knob till the bubbles are where you want them: Took about a week of fine adjustments to really get it working like I wanted: Micro bubbles were more than usual in the first two weeks, but have been reduced to near nothing: I did shorten the supplied tubing so the pump would sit closer to the input of the nozzle: it comes with two lengths so you can use HOB or sump setup: Large collection cup with a drain plug is nice for the price: Only compliant was the pump: In the user manual coralife recommends a 650-750gph pump for best operation: The pump shipped with is a 2000L/hr unit that converts to 528 GPH. I have not decided yet to upgrade the pump at my expense or not: But even with that said it does produce a huge amount of micro bubbles inside the skimmer and it still works: Overall not a bad skimmer for the price range: and it also comes with a tube silencer for the air intake whice is very noisy without it: I also noticed you need to tighten the collection cup down pretty tight because the grove the O-ring sits on is deep.

The amount of skim the first week was amazing to see it working. I did have a skimmer from Instant Ocean and it was crap compared to this unit. Coralife's Bubble production from the motor is great. I did have a problem two weeks into running... the motor starting making noise. It was the plastic housing holding the motor shaft in place, was cracked. I removed the cracked part of the housing so that it was wouldn't fall loose into the motor causing more damage and decide to sill run it. I bought the "new style" skimmer. Makes alot of bubbles for the proteins to stick to, the bigger and better collection cup is bigger and better, But the skimmer wouldn't turn down enough to stop a constant flow of micro bubbles into the collection cup. I let it run for 3 days, routing the flow through the optional drain tube back into my sump while I awaited Coralife Techs to return my email...I'm still waiting. I resolved the problem by placing a ball valve between the pump and skimmer intake, slowing the water flow slightly, and now it works great! The pump seems to be just a little too powerful for the return flow design.
