This product arrived quickly and in fine shape. It is shipped in a shallow box containing the pellets in a plastic bag. When the bag is opened, the product does give the odor of hay fields, which was expected and acceptable. (To me that signals fresh.) It serves my purposes wonderfully.Want Zilla Alfalfa Meal Discount?
I wanted to make my lawn look better, and I was going to hire a service since I don't know a thing about grass care. After a little reading I discovered that the chemical lawn companies are in the business of turning your lawn into a crack head for their products, which kill your soil and make your lawn dependent on chemicals to survive. So, I decided to go the organic route. I am "mowing high", leaving the grass at 3.5 inches or longer, and adding organic material to the lawn. I mixed up a batch of this alfalfa meal, a couple of buckets of compost my neighbor generously gave me, two pounds of greensand, and two pounds of lime for my less-than-1000-square foot lawn and threw it around with a trowel. Then I forced my teenager to pull the dandelions, and that was it. Not very scientific, and I didn't really expect much.
However...
My lawn is now the envy of my block. Seriously. I still have a few weeds and some small bare spots, but the grass is SO green, and thick, and healthy, it almost looks like I had sod put in. It cost around 35 bucks and the aggravation of getting my kid to pull weeds once. Win! I could probably get the alfalfa cheaper but the depth and breadth of my laziness is as yet unplumbed...I could not resist getting it delivered.
If you want a nice lawn but don't want to pay a lot of money for someone to pour chemicals and poisons around your house, google "organic lawn care". You don't have to use alfalfa, but it seems to have worked out well for me.
