Penn Plax SpongeBob Aquarium Decorating Kit

Penn Plax SpongeBob Aquarium Decorating KitColors are not as bright and the background isn't suitable as a background for a fish tank. Items are a lot smaller as well.

My son loves spongebob and this really helped turn his small tank into his own creation. I would recommend this !

the set is great. comes with a lot of neat stuff. the background is way too big for my 10 gal. tank, so I had to cut it waay down and it doesnt look so great now. and its just paper so dont let it get wet!! also one plant kept breaking off pieces when i was planting it in the gravel. but besides the minor issues the ceramic decor was great, my son will absolutely love it when he sees it!! i reccomend it for spongebob obsessed kids and their parents who like to see them happy!!

Instant Ocean Sea Salt

Instant Ocean Sea Salt, 160-GallonWhile aquarists debate and discuss which brand is the best, labs and universities continue to select Instant Ocean for their studies. Instant Ocean is one of the largest makers of marine salt in the world. They know what they are doing. On the other end of the spectrum you have true hand-made marine salt. I have made marine salt in a lab. I used 100% super purity chemicals and salts. It was a lengthy process and very expensive. We used the salts for years and also compared the tanks to Instant Ocean salts. There was no difference in the tanks. The lab no longer makes marine salt. It was easier to buy Instant Ocean.

I've been keeping marine aquariums, including reef tanks, for seven years now. That's not a terribly long time but it means I've done a ton of water changes by now ;). Even with all of these new special "reef salts", I still use regular Instant Ocean. The brand has been around for a long time and is therefore well tested and reliable. I often hear of issues with other salts, including IO's Reef Crystals, but good ol' regular Instant Ocean mixes clearly and without wacky water parameters every time. In addition to using it in my own tanks, I've always chosen to use this brand in the lab (marine ecology research) and it's the choice of most scientists.

This salt worked great in my little aquarium and you can not beat the value. One of the best brands of salt about.

Marineland LED Aquarium Light

Marineland LED Aquarium LightIve bought these units twice now and they both have shorted out within a couple months. Works great then they short out in a short period of time ,the seal isnt tight and moisture must get into it to short out the leds. Disappointed.

After already once replacing some cheap starters and bulbs in my standard top over a 55 gal. tank, I got fed up and did a search for an alternative that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I spotted these LED units, reasonably priced. I bought 2 of them, and positioned them in place of the 18" fluorescent fixtures. They are very low profile, so they don't hide the filters, air and misc. on the back of the tank as well, but other than that, they sit very nicely on top of the tank, provide adequate (LED) lighting, and have a 'moonlight' setting which looks great at night. I'm pleased and would recommend these. Note, I have these over a freshwater tank, so I'm not supporting saltwater marine life. However, I do have some plants gathered from some local lakes that seem to be thriving under these lights.

Marina Girl Theme Betta Fish Aquarium Bonus PackMy daughter turned four and wanted her own pet to take care of and wanted a "princess" tank. The Disney ones were garish and expensive. This is the perfect tank for a betta and easy to clean. I don't think it is too small for this type of fish at all. Great price for all that was included in the box too.

I have been wanting one of these but saw it in the store for a lot more. Made very well and very stylish. Order it, you wont be disapointed.

I wouldn't use this for any fish but it was great for my little Marimo before it started to get a little bigger. I also used one to hold my little ghost shrimp before putting in the 5 gal tank after I was sure it wouldn't give any diseases or anything. That's about all I used this little thing for.

Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-Gallon

Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-GallonInitially had a 5 star review and had to update it. After 6 months of ownership, I've had nothing but trouble with this system. The aquarium itself is OK... hard to mess up a block of glass and some plastic I guess. But the entire hood including bulbs, ballasts, and fans is just a poorly designed money pit. The fans do nothing but squeal for 10 minutes when they first come on. Originals did that and even the free replacements are now doing it. Already had to replace the $30 actinic bulb after only 6 months, and finally had to take out the bio balls as they were loading the tank with nitrates (common problem with bio balls). The hood traps all heat too, and I had to install a supplementary fan to remove heat from inside the aquarium. Finally, every time I take the hood off to do a cleaning and water change, if I don't set the hood down with a feather light touch, the daylight bulb has to be reseated before it'll work again as the connector isn't a good quality connector. This seemed like a simple and effective kit when I first bought it, hence the initial 5 star review. It's not until after the tank cycles and the electronics have been in use for a few months that you realize how much effort it takes to get this setup stable and working properly for a reef tank. After all my fiddling, improvements, and replacement parts, I've got it working but I dropped my rating considering all the quality issues I've had. If the hood electronics weren't such low quality, I'd probably rate it 4 stars.

I bought the biocube 29 about a year ago due to liking its appearance and the 'all-in-one' design. Having checked out a number of reviews, most of which were negative about the construction quality, thinking I knew best, I went ahead and purchased one. Should have listened to the reviews!

I have kept fish tanks, both fresh and salt water, for many years with essentially no problems. With this tank...where to start...first, the glass had a number of scratches and is also very easy to further scratch (probably had over a dozen tanks over the years and never had a single scratch). The midnight LEDS were not working within a week. To be fair the customer service at Oceanic were very fast and efficient and sent me a new transformer within a week which fixed the problem...until last week...when there was a bang and a smell of burning and no more nighttime LEDs. As many others appear to have experienced, the fans make an annoying loud squealing noise when initially switched on..this last for about 10 minutes. Other annoying problems such as the back tab to gain access to the filter system is almost impossible to open by hand. You also need to keep an extremely close eye on the water level indicator on the side of the tank, if it gets too low then lots of microbubbles will fill your tank, stressing fish and corals. This has been a big source of concern for me when travelling for longer than a week. Plus it means that you can't use automated fish feeders because as well as being very tricky to install, you get major water loss resulting in the bubble issue.

Finally, what actually got me to finally get around to expressing my unhappiness for this product with this review was the following. I head read reviews about fish 'jumping' into the filter system. I had looked at this carefully when I set the tank up and concluded that either this simply wasn't possible, that the design must have been changed or that people were overfilling their tanks. Well, I noticed that one of my firefishes had gone missing a couple of days ago which was strange as he appeared healthy and happy. Tonight I was changing the filter (whilst grappling to get in the compartment) and lo and behold there was my firefish lying on the bioballs cover. Thankfully, I keep the bioball levels a little lower than normal and he was still getting wet, although he does not look to be in good shape (he is currently hiding or maybe even back amongst the bioballs). Fingers crossed he will survive. So, it took a year to happen but, yes, fish can jump in the filter compartment. Unbelievable!

On the positive side, it does look nice, however for the very high cost there is an expectation of quality, and this falls very very short. Overall I have been extremely disappointed in the tank and it has been a constant source of annoyance.

p.s. Don't even consider the Oceanic protein skimmer, its is useless at drawing gunk and means you then have to move the filter to lie on the bioballs, totally idiotic.

Buy Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-Gallon Now

Please, please please do not buy this product! I bought this tank about six months ago, and am into it about four hundred dollars with the stand. During the first week of ownership, several fish managed to get into the back chambers. I contacted the manufacturer, and was sent a divider to put up as a barrier to the back. A couple of months ago one of the lights went out, again I contacted the manfucturer and was sent a new set of bulbs and ballast. This morning I woke up to find gallons of water had poured out of the tank. A large fish had managed to get into the chamber that contains the water pump. While thrashing around in the back, the fish unhooked the tube to the pump, which basically created a fountain. Water entered the hood lights, as well as ran down the sides of the tank. The lighting system has been destroyed and water leaked into my heat ducts and onto my newly refinished hardwood floor downstairs. Fortunately I was home when all of this took place. If not, I would have a tank of dead fish and ruined floors. This tank is going into the garbage. It is the worst product I have ever bought!

This is the worst product you can buy. I bought a 29G biocube and after couple of months it started to leak. I tried to communicate to manufacturer and received no response for a while. You pay a lot of money for this piece of junk and they don't even test the sealing of the product. No real customer service and your warranty doesn't mean anything.

Never going to buy any Oceanic product.

Want Oceanic 82052 BioCube Aquarium, 29-Gallon Discount?

We have now owned our Biocube 29 gallon for over 4 years. The initial plus is the compact size and tidy design. I would not rate the "all in one" as a real plus as almost any decent aquarium shop can set you up with a regular tank, filter, lights and hood for less money and probably better quality. However it won't necessarily look as "neat" for the same amount of money. I would stress that this is not my first or last salt water tank.

Looks certainly rates five stars, neat in appearance, self contained.

Ease of use pretty easy to set up, but harder to clean than other tanks due to limited and difficult to open access doors. Removing the hood is not easy as the cables need to be disconnected or the whole assembly is awkward and heavy. While other tanks hoods are also not easy to remove you usually don't have to remove them to clean the tank, on the Biocube you are most likely going to have to. As for cleaning the glass a magnetic cleaner can't get around the curves so it is easier to do it with a (clean) scourer. The glass on our tank has not scratched at all in over 4 years. The stand has small opening for cables which makes wiring difficult.

Quality Poor, one star or less. Our tank leaked after four years. I just fixed it requiring cutting out the plastic filter box silicone and tank sealant on one rear edge and bottom of the other edge. Why did it leak? It was a manufacturing defect, the silicone was incorrectly applied on two seams missing the edge of the main glass entirely, it was amazing it took 4 years for the water to get past the plastic to glass seal on the outside that was not designed to be water tight. The sealant around the filter box was also beginning to leak but I doubt this would effect the efficiency of the system or pose any real problems. Fix time was about 3 hours, plus 48 hours for the sealant to cure. Hood fans also failed after running noisily for a short while, however they don't appear to be necessary, all they do is cause excessive water loss through evaporation. Like all systems with compact bulbs they do require replacement quite frequently, the ballast has also been replaced, and the parts are expensive.

Efficiency Everything seems to work well enough except the skimmer. It can't be used with the mechanical filter pad and is difficult to service, however we don't seem to need it even with live corals and quite a few fish. Tank lights get hot so you better have the tank in a fairly cool room.

Design Cube shape make the tank very good for a reef setup. This also helps with filtration as the live rock and sand (when cycled) act as a natural filter. However the water level is too high for the separation between the filter and main tank resulting in escaping fish. Most fish don't escape so if yours does you are better off taking it back and swapping it for another one that won't jump into your filter. (the fish that is)

Would I recommend it? Probably not, while it is not terrible there are certainly enough problems that other systems would be a better recommendation, especially for those new to salt water. The 29 gallon however is really small for a saltwater aquarium, especially a reef, and it does work. So if your requirement is a small saltwater reef and you no way want a bigger tank then this might be a good solution at least if you are lucky and get one that they manufactured properly.

Our tank right now We moved everything to a new 75 gallon reef tank (very easy to set up) when the tank leaked. Now it is fixed and filled again waiting to cycle and fill with who knows what fish, corals and invertebrates. We didn't scrap it so it really isn't a piece of junk despite what others might say, just not really that good either.

Rena Air Pump

Rena Air 50 Air PumpOver 5 years ago, when I asked my local aquarium store for a recommendation on a quiet air pump I was told "Get a Rena". So I purchased one and hooked it up. The pump was so quiet that I couldn't even hear it operate which was important since the aquarium is close to my bedroom. Finally after years of faithful service the pump began to wear out with less and less output. I went to another aquarium store and was convinced by the sales clerk to get a Tetratec model. When I hooked it up it made so much racket that I couldn't sleep. I then went back to the orginal store and they sold me a rebuild kit for the pump for less than $8. I renewed the pump and once again it works flawlessly with no discernable noise. Rena pumps are just fine quality devices I highly recommend.

Tried several pumps, I own two of these pumps. I use them pump in a 55 gallon and a 46 gallon. Extrememly quite and powerful. Great purchase.

This is the most powerful quiet pump available. Hands down. Now, it's not the most powerfull available, but then again, who wants a turbine running in their house that they have to listen to all day? This pump is plenty powerful (only mildly less than the louder models) and a great choice. Believe me: I've tried them all. Pretty long lasting as well My last one kicked the bucket after 4 years of hard work.

I bought this pump today and hooked it up. It made almost no sound. You could only really hear it when you put your ear next to it. I have been ignoring the loud rattle that my old pump made for entirely too long. It costs more in the stores than the other pumps, but its well worth it. Heck, the fish seem happier without a big rattling thing vibrating their water, remember sounds carry better through water than air, so if its loud for you, imagine how it is for them!

I just got in my 2 new Rena Air pumps. I have been on the long search for a quiet pump. This is it. I would suggest this to anyone who has a tank located where noise can be a factor. I am hopeful these will be running worry free for a long time.

Marina Floating Thermometer with Suction Cup

Marina Floating Thermometer with Suction CupIt's cheap, it works, and it stays put. Not sure how much else you need to know. This is a thermometer for a fish tank, not a superconductor.

Every aquarium needs a thermometer, and in my opinion, this is the best one to have. You never have to replace batteries like the digital kind, it's more accurate and more attractive than the black stick-on kind, and it doesn't interfere with the lid like the metal hanging kind. My only complaints are that there is a fairly narrow viewing angle on the mercury (red line), and the clear suction cup that it comes with can turn white and lose its flexibility after a while. Otherwise though, it's a great little thermometer and I recommend it over any other.

Buy Marina Floating Thermometer with Suction Cup Now

This is now the third thermometer I've had on my current fish tank. It's also the best one.

The readings on one of these thermometers is generally more accurate than that of the adhesive strip you can apply to the front of the tank. The suction cup is also good on this one--I had to get rid of another one because of that problem.

You'll need this no matter what kind of fish tank you have so you can adjust your heater.

Read Best Reviews of Marina Floating Thermometer with Suction Cup Here

As a thermometer, it seems to work fine.

But if you're using it in a acrylic tank, DON'T USE THE SUCTION CUP! It left two permanent ring shaped marks on my tank, after about a month of use. I can't get them off by scrubbing or rubbing, or even scratching with my fingernails. (added a picture of the mark to the product images)

Be warned!

Want Marina Floating Thermometer with Suction Cup Discount?

I bought two of these for my betta tanks. Although I felt the readings were accurate, while changing the water in one of the tanks, the thermometer shattered and sent the liquid and all of the tiny black balls everywhere. It made a mess and has made me wary about using the second. Hopefully they'll make the glass a little stronger/thicker in the future.

Oceanic 82053 BioCube Protein Skimmer

Oceanic 82053 BioCube Protein SkimmerThis protein skimmer has alot of mixed reviews..some good some bad...I currently own a 29gallon Biocube and i needed a protien skimmer that fit my budget which was between $0-$100..after much research i decided to give this skimmer a try to see if it was something of quality or junk...When you first start it up and you calibrate the airvalve control.it will start to fizzle white bubbles really fast..This will continue for the next 2-4 days until you see the skimmer really start working..Gradually you will see those tiny bubbles turn into slow huge foaming bubbles giving off alot of brown and green crap comming from your tank...If calibrated properly it will take about a week or two before you will need to empty the waste chamber...The only downside that i didnt like..was that the airstone has to be changed every month for this skimmer to do what it is suppose to do..Amazon sells them here for $5.95 with free shipping which isnt too bad..Overall i gave this product 5stars because it works and it works well for the money you pay...You just have to be patient and you will see the progress..

Yes, it is not the best skimmer on the market but for the price and it fitting my 29 biocube perfectly it does a pretty good job. It took me about 4 days to get it adjusted properly and requires more adjustments every so often. Keep in mind that protein skimmers need time and adjustments to work properly. This is especially true for the cheaper ones in cost like this one.

Buy Oceanic 82053 BioCube Protein Skimmer Now

I've had protein skimmers before and have read some reviews that say don't buy this as it is undersized and ineffective but I have to be honest: it does its job, fits in my BioCube 29 with no modifications, and has required no adjusting at all in about 30 days of operation. The waste chamber is a bit small and has to be emptied every 2-3 days max or I'd give it 5 stars. Other than that, it is pulling a decent amount of protein out of the water as evidenced by what is in the chamber. Other more expensive units may pull out more but this is designed for a 14/29 gallon tank: there shouldn't be that much to pull out in the first place unless you are overfeeding or have die off. One tip: KEEP the factory particulate filter in place and just hang this unit on the filter itself. The instructions tell you to remove the mechanical filter and never tell you to place it back in. I don't recommend that as you'll end up with the bioball chamber filling with gunk. Just hang the skimmer in the middle of the filter so it is level and keep both protein and mechanical filtration in place. Works fine on the 29 gallon. Not sure about the 14.

Read Best Reviews of Oceanic 82053 BioCube Protein Skimmer Here

You know I can almost see why so many people post negative reviews... My biggest complaint would have to be putting the unit in the center chamber of the biocube can be annoying to pull the top out to empty. I run my heater/filter cartridge in 1st chamber, skimmer in center, live rock cheato in third and I didn't have any problems but this unit has made my water crystal clear!!! But initially I was going crazy trying to figure out why it keeps OVERFLOWING with bubbles. There is a small adjustment wheel on the tubing from the pump. you really have to adjust this appropriately to get the skimmer to function correctly.

After one day of running it was clear water. Here I am third day now. Yesterday and today I emptied murky brown water from the chamber and its getting darker as it breaks in. I know it may be frustrating but this product is worth 35 bucks! Just adjust it!!! I promise the bad reviewers did not properly adjust this! And considering your options are limited for biocubes anyway this is a good choice!

Want Oceanic 82053 BioCube Protein Skimmer Discount?

I bought this for my small 12 gallon tank, (Not a Biocube tank) a regular tank.

I have bought 2 protien skimmers and I Like the Biocube skimmer the best because it Fits under my hood. I like having my hood on it reduce water noise, salt splashes and I can use the 50/50 light for my coral.

The biocube skimmer has no water line (which baffle me) but I went online & found a couple people say you can put it at Any level. On youtube I saw one person he had the collection cup about 2 inches out of the water and was collecting protein and another guy had the collection cup right at water level & it was collecting protein too so you can set this at any level. I was then able to put it low enough to collect foam and fit under my hood (something I con't do with the other skimmer I had; that had a water line).

I wish the suction cup were adjustable, when I stuck it to glass to fit under my hood the top suction cup was above the glass, lucky the bottom suction cup holds tight, still if they made the suction cups slide up & down would make it a 5 star product.

Also those saying is doesn't collect waste, if you just changed your water or it's a new tank Duh!! Biocbue skimmer isn't going to collect much waste from a clean tank or maybe you don't have the foam forming correctly.

Tetra EasyStrips 6-in-1 Test Strips

Tetra EasyStrips 6-in-1 Test 10C, 100 StripsI have been using this for about a week and comparing it against my API Master Test Kit and here are the results I got.

I have a 10 gallon tropical freshwater tank, a 8 gallon shrimp tank and a small betta fish tank.

All of the them are cycled and controlling the parameters are important for the shrimp tank.

I got this for the convenience vs liquid test kits, which are known to be more accurate

There was well over 1 year till the expiry date but I have found the test strips to be inaccurate.

Tetra test strips vs. API master test kit

Nitrate(ppm): 30 vs 80

Nitrite(ppm): 0 vs 0

GH(ppm): ~75 vs 80

KH(ppm): ~60 vs 120

pH: ~6.6 vs 8.0

The parameters that way off are Nitrate, KH, pH and also Chlorine.

I do not have a Cl test kit but there is no way my tap water has 0ppm of Cl. I smell it myself in a bath.

Bottom line: extremely inaccurate.

Have been using the strips for month or two and they work ok for a quick reading. I have compared the results with another brand test strip and the API master test kit. The only one that is really off for me is the nitrate which keeps coming up bright pink or 200 and the real level is 20. Not sure why it keeps doing this except maybe since my tank water is so hard? Not sure. I have tried the strips in other samples of water including spring water and distilled water. And it seems to work fine with those samples. I think for most causal fish keepers the strips should work fine but remember the strips are not as good as the liquid tests. I probably will not be buying these again since I always have to double check the nitrate level to be sure it's not really off the charts.

They are easy to maintain, just tablets and natural algae and detritus in your tanks. Just make sure you have plenty of plants and hiding places for them. You can pair them with non-aggressive fish too.

If you have male and female, they will breed when mature. Most freshwater shrimp are pale or translucent colors so I'm glad to have these liven up the tank. Anyway, so far so good!

EHEIM Ecco Pro Easy 60 External Canister Filter Up to 60 US Gallons

EHEIM Ecco Pro Easy 60 External Canister Filter Up to 60 US GallonsI have owned this filter for a couple years now and it works brilliantly, it always quickly gets the water crystal clear after I have muddied up the water from cleaning the aquarium, it is very easy to use and clean except for the biological media bouncing all over the place like bacteria infused Kix cereal and the priming feature is brilliant. Also this thing is in the open in my bedroom and I can't hear a thing as long as I put a pad under it so it doesn't vibrate against floor. The only complaint I have is the water pressure dropping over the years. When I first bought it, the ecco 2234 would put so much pressure into the tank it turned it into a river with the current, the fish used to go swim in the current like salmon. Unfortunately no amount of cleaning and scrubbing and replacing filters gets the pressure and water circulation back to what it was when I first bought it. I had purchased this for a tank that is half the size the filter is rated for so the filter does absolutely fine even with the weak pressure. I would recommend this filter, however make sure you buy one that is rated for a much larger tank.

I own all three versions of the ECCO Pro series, and they are all terrible quality. The handles are cheap plastic and easily break. I've replaced the cheap plastic piece that holds the handle several times. Worse, the motors lasted about a day longer than the warranty. It's been a total of 2 years, and I have ONE functioning ECCO Pro filter...and that's because I've used spare parts from all the broken ones. Eheim is a good brand, but this model was Eheim's attempt at the "entry level" market. Fail. There's a reason most stores don't carry this garbage model anymore. Get the Eheim Classic. Proven design, long history. Avoid this one.

Ehem makes the best aquarium pumps. But that is not saying much, many of the others are not good at all. This one is easy to prime and has quick disconnects but if air does get inside the pump can over heat and burn up.. Had to send mine in the warranty replacement and it takes WEEKS at least. (Eheim needs a a service center here in the US, for US customers)

It is still the best, just could be better.

i looove this filter. i upgraded my 20 gallon to a 40b so my hob aquaclear filter wasnt going to cut it. i have a pleco like that loves to poop and poop and poop. you know the drill. so i went to look for a good canister filter. in the end i decided to go with a fluval since the reviews are almost always great for them. i went to petco to pick one up and while waiting for them to get the one for a 80 gallon i was walking around and noticed they had this one on sale for on $70. eheim is a very reliable brand so i said what the hey. ill try it out. well ive had it for 3 months now and it is super awesome. i only cleaned it once and it was very easy to clean. it comes with all the media. my tank is crystal clear and my fish are happy. also, the filter is sooo quiet. sometimes i think its not working because i cant hear any noise coming from it. so i put im hand by the output hose to check and i can feel the water flowing. i didnt buy it from amazon but decided to put a review up anyway since there isnt to much info on this product. even though amazon sells it for more its totally worth it. i would definitely by it again. btw, the filter media is a little difficult to come by but the fx5 filter media fits if you just trim it a little (blue sponge and water polisher).

I have had this filter for two years now. It works like new, my water is clear like the day I changed it. The filter is very quiet, easy to clean, and you can create your own combination of filtration layers. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants a good quality filter for a relatively low price. And the best part about it... it's virtually maintenance free since you only need to clean it once every 3 months. I love it!

Smooth Rock Cave Ornament

Smooth Rock Cave OrnamentI love this ornament. It is the biggest round rock cave I've been able to find. I was looking for something that looked like Patrick's rock (from Spongebob) for my Bikini Bottom tank setup and this is PERFECT.

I would only warn other customers that the back isn't round, it's a little lumpier, though it's not shown in the photo. I had wanted to turn it around so that the entrance wasn't visible, but it didn't look like Patrick's rock anymore when I did that.

It's still a really nice, well-made decoration and my fish LOVE it.

If you are looking for a resemblance to Patrick's rock, this is not the one for you. It is oblong and looks nothing like the photo. I am very disappointed. But if you just want a rock for your aquarium...it is great at being that....

My frogs were very skittish little guys, and this rock, after many failures with other ornaments, became their main home where I dropped their food for them.
