I have four fish tanks of 200 gallons each and I use this as way to get oxygen to all four tanks. Sunfish and tilapia seem happy.Haven't used it yet have it for a spear but I'm sure it will be fine.I'm glad it is so heavy. so it will stand up for a long time of use.Pondmaster 02940 40-Watt Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier
2 week after putting the Pondmaster UV filter into the pond, the water was clear as crystal.
However, as the manufacturer indicates, "filter" isn't the proper terminology. It's a sterilizer. It doesn't eliminate the need for a normal bio filter. This kills the algae and other parasites so the bio filter can remove them from the water. If you have a particularly green pond (as I did) clear the filter pads weekly until you've regained control over the algae.
Again, note that the UV system addresses free algae not the string algae that grows on the sides. It's basic logic if the algae is stuck to the side, then it can't pass through the steriliser to be killed.
Change your filter pads regularly until you've gotten past the 2-3 week period when you're waiting for the pea soup to vanish. All that dead algae needs to be removed. Make sure you get any old leaves out too that will speed things up.
If you don't see results, make sure you have the right wattage, and also adjust the pump to ensure the water isn't moving to fast. Algae cells need about 1-2 full seconds exposure to the lamp to break the cell membrane and kill them.
Bottom line it does PRECISELY what it says.My UV clarifier is probably 10 or 11 months old and it's already dead. The bulb burned out about 6 weeks ago, well short of its 1 year expected life, and was replaced. Last weekend I noticed the light was dead. I replaced the $80 bulb, plugged it back in, and nothing. The UV clarifier is dead. Typical. Can't anyone many anything that actually works anymore?
It's also annoying that the input and output tubes have such a tiny diameter. I think they went out of their way to find a size that was difficult to convert to more standard sized tubes.
EDIT: I was very mad when I wrote the above. The next day I contacted Pondmaster to complain, but they quickly began to resolve my problem. They sent out a new ballast which arrived in a few days and a complimentary bulb. The new ballast works fine. They made this process extremely easy for me and they didn't need to. This was an example of how a company can turn a bad situation into a favorable one because after this experience I wouldn't think twice about purchasing another Pondmaster product.
I have the product a 1 because it broke when it shouldn't have, but after seeing their customer service in action I'd like to change it to a 4 but I can't. I won't change it to a 5 because I still find the UV's tiny in/out pipes annoying ;)

I have used the 40 watt Pondmaster units for several years. Generally they do an excellent job of clarifying the water. Three units keep my 6000 gallon pond very clear. However, the ballast is subject to damage because the gasket around the quartz sleeve pushes into a pressure switch at the base of the unit. After using the unit for a few years, the gasket becomes distorted, lets water into the electical fixture, allowing the ballast to burn out. A replacement ballast costs over $100 and is difficult to find. I have a collection of four or five burned out ballasts that can't be repaired. Since bulbs last about two seasons, it generally costs about the same amount to buy a new unit as it does to replace all of the parts (ballast, quartz sleeve, and bulb). Hopefully this is not a deliberate strategy by the company to sell replacemente units, but one has to wonder.Read Best Reviews of Pondmaster 02940 40-Watt Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier Here
I rarely write a review, but wanted to say a few words that might help anyone thinking about buying this product. The water in my pond looked like pea soup. I did partial water changes and cleaned the filter twice a day, nothing seemed to help. Finally I bought this, although I was kind of a skeptic. The first few days I didn't think it was doing anything, but as the days went by it got better and better. After a couple of weeks the water was crystal clear. Amazing! The clarifier does NOT come with attachments to connect it into the pump and into the filter. We took it to the hardware store to figure out what parts we needed to connect it all, so be prepared!!

So let me try to make this story short. I basicly got this UV sterilizer 3 1/2 to 4 years ago used from a friend of mine that owns a pet shop. The previous owner and I invested in the sterilizer for our saltwater aquariums. The unit was pretty new, I think it had been used for a year or less. Used the unit for my 90 gallon saltwater tank for approx 3 1/2 to 4 years with really no problems. I even moved a year ago and hooked the unit back up to my tank with no problems. Every once in a while i would have to tap on it alittle when I plugged it back in after doing a water change on my aquarium. 6-8 months ago I notice that I had small puddles of water around my aquarium on tile floor or stuff under my tank was wet( I have unit sitting ontop of my home made wet dry filter under my tank. Thought at first it was just water splashing from where it pours into wet dry filter. Negative, noticed one of the halos on unit was leaking alittle. At this time it was just a constant drip of water, which over months increased to a small squirt of water at times. Took care of that by placing something over leak where water would drip/stream down instead of squirting up and weting my tile floor. Have notice increase in water on my tile floor last couple weeks. Got off work one morning to find that the halo had started squirting so much water out of aquarium that the water level got low and my water pump could not ciculate water in aquarium. This caused my saltwater fish to have a lack of oxygen over who know how many hours!! Almost lost several fish, ended up that only my lunar wrasse died from inccident!! I am upset, but I did get 3 1/2-4 good years with this sterilizer!! So does anyone know how to fix the halos to keep them from leaking or should I just buy a new sterilizer??? Halos are not cracked and it is just 1 halo that needs repairing. Any ideas?????? Over all a good product.Hydrofarm AAPA15L 6-Watt 15-LPM Active Aqua Air Pump with 4 Outlets

Over the past 40 years there are few air pumps I haven't tried. I tend to rely on on Luftair and Rena but decided to give these a shot.Th pumps are huge with great width to them making them a problem for those with limited space. At first the air flow was excellent but it became significantly weaker in a very short period of time. Hydrofarm claims 15 LPM (Litre per minute) but I can assure you this isn't the case. This would mean it out performes the $89 Rena 400 in LPM. I run six of these in deep water tanks and trust me they can't and they don't. 7-9 LPM's would be more appropriate and honest a claim.
The pumps are quiet enough but I suspect as time marches on the noise will increase as is the nature of all air pumps. The way to keep the noise in check and the output at optimum perfomance is to change the air filters every few months. When vibration seems to much the bladder and or baffles need replacing which brings your pumps, regardless of brand back to optimum perfomance levels.
I wish the company included T stops and block offs or the basic minimal add ons most every other air pump is sold with but they don't it's as bare bones as you can get.For large and or deep water tanks these wouldn't be my second let alone my first choice, they'll burn out as would any competitive pump at this level.
But for standard tanks up to 75 gallons and shallow show tanks up to 125 these should do just fine. Because these are new and haven't been running long I can't write about longevity and reliabilty issues but my initial feeling is they will do as well as most any brand and model in their league and at this price point.

Lee's Betta Keeper Large w/Lid, Gravel and Plant
I would never recomend this as a permanent home for a betta. the general rule is 1 gallon for every inch of fish. My son received a beta as a gift, and when we went to the store to buy an aquarium, the clerk recommended this tank, and also recommended getting a second beta to add. In hindsight, he wasn't looking out for our fish, but for his profit.
Even though betas CAN live in small spaces, I would not recommend it. Even for one beta, this tank is too small. It gets dirty easily and needs to be cleaned once a week, which is an immense stress on the fish. The fake plants provided with the tank don't help with the water quality either.
For now, we moved our beta to a large glass baking bowl, and we are in the process of shopping for a larger tank with an undergravel filter and live plants, plus a heater. I absolutely agree with the other review: If you can't afford a good tank for your fish, don't get one. Betas like space, too.

I don't house my bettas permanently in this, but for water changes and as an isolation tank for any sick bettas, this works wonderfully! If you look at the better breeder websites, (and their barracks photos), no one is housing their bettas in 1 gallon tanks for each inch of betta. That would be a phenomenal waste of their space. While most 'pet' betta owners have more money, time, and room for better...this product isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. Has...dunno....maybe about a half gallon of water space? Better than some prettier betta vases I've seen. If this is all you can afford, it is still better than leaving your betta in the pet store container, and your fish will survive just fine as long as you do frequent water changes. Housing two bettas in this is about the same as leaving them in those store containers though. If you're looking for short term temporary housing for multiple bettas, this is fine..if you take into consideration quarantine concerns...as the water is shared.
But, I use mine only for water changes and if one of my 6 bettas gets sick. Easier (and cheaper) to medicate a small bowl versus a larger tank...and works perfectly for what it was purchased for. Just keep the gravel and fake plant out if you have a sick one. Less to sterilize afterwards, and they really don't need those while they're recovering.

This container is way too small to keep any fish in, let alone two. In such a small container, the fishes' wastes will build up quickly, causing eye and skin irritation, sickness, even death. You can try to reduce the waste build up changing the water frequently, but not only is this a lot of work for you, it is stressful for the fish.In addition, if you want to keep bettas in a divided tank, there should be decorations for the fish to hide behind when they need a break from flaring at each other. This tank is too small to allow that, another source of stress.
Thirdly, bettas are tropical fish. They need a tank heated to a constant 80F. It is not possible to safely heat a tank that is smaller than 5 gallons.
If you want to get bettas, please read some of the excellent websites available and learn all you can about their care. If you cannot afford a proper tank, please don't get a fish.

This tank is only suitable for a hospital tank or when doing water changes. It is too small for one Betta, much less two. I used to have a betta in one of these tanks, and then I moved him to a ten gallon tank. He looked so much happier. He flared his fins more and he swam around the whole tank. If you really want to enjoy watching your betta, do not get this tank.Aquarium Fish Tank 4" Diameter Hot Pink Soft Silicone Coral Ornament

There's nothing wrong with the manufacturing or quality the item seems well made and its structure is basically the same as shown in the picture. But the colors are nothing like what is shown. In reality, it is much darker, less kid-like. The "red" coral on the right is really a deep purple; the "yellow" smokestack looking things are really green; the "light blue" flower like things on the left are really a dark copper/burnt orange; the small "purple" flowers are blue and yellow; the "light purple" brain-like looking things at the bottom are blue and a little purple, but much darker than in the picture; the little "yellow" flowers are red. The remaining parts are a couple shades of deep, deep forest green. It was for a 7 year old, so I am very disappointed.

I have a beautiful Moon-fin Betta in one of those Tetra Water Wonders 1.5 gallon tank kits. I had some small Greek ruins in there for a while but I wanted to give him a cave to hide in and feel safe. I looked everywhere for something that would look cool and fit in this small plastic tank. This is it!!! It looks so awesome! These complaints about the colors are rubbish. Yeah the colors are different than the photo but it's certainly not muted. Unless some people just received a bad batch of them, this coral cave ornament brightly glows with vibrant colors. Now my Betta swims right in and parks himself with his cute little head poking out like a moray eel! Highly recomended for small tanks and Bettas!!!Want Exotic Environments Red Sea Hide-Away Aquarium Ornament Discount?
The color was a little bit more dull than in the pictures. Disapointing but I decided I would still keep it.Bad idea. Should have returned it. As soon as I started to rinse it before putting in the tank a horrible rank resin smell took over the whole kitchen! It was so bad there was no way I was going to put it in my tank with my fish. I had to put it out on the porch it was so bad! No way would I buy anther one. Horrible waste of money.
Coralife Biocube, Size 29
The Biocube's lighting system can run hot despite cooling fans. The aquarium was pushing 79 degrees in late March which worried me. It is very difficult to install additional cooling fans into the hood. Thankfully, there are several great companies making retro kit LED light systems for nano reefers. I bought a soldered 95% fully assembled retro LED kit specifically for the Biocube from StevesLeds.com for $294. Since is fully assembled, you simply remove the hood and existing light & cooling systems to screw in the new LED kit. You are removing entire guts of interior hood. Takes less than 1 hr and a Phillips screwdriver. LED kit is equipped with pressurized cooling fan which is used in Sony WEGA TV's. LED kit is dimmable and has 2 controls. RapidLed also makes a similar $245 dimmable kit for the Biocube. The main difference is that Steve's model includes cooling fan. RapidLED does not include fan (you would keep existing cooling fans) and one must purchase a reef controller to dim lights and purchase two separate dimmer controls. Both make great LED lighting retro kit systems so is tough decision. After making my LED lighting system upgrade, I'm very satisfied with my aquarium.I tried starting up a saltwater aquarium using my freshwater tank, hang-on filter, etc... While it worked fine for a FOWLR tank, I was unsuccessful when adding corals. After wasting a ton of money and time, I caved and bought this coralife tank. What a life saver! I did a few minor mods like cutting out the tab separating the intake from the second chamber to allow greater flow. Got rid of all those bio balls and added a carbon bag, nodes I already had, purigen, and a protein skimmer. Life is good now. This is worth the money, just do your research on biocube modifications to make this worth the price.

I purchased this through petsolutions and set it up instantly as an upgrade from the original biocube upon arrival. It's been running now for a week and I love it! My fish are happy as well as the corals I had. The colors in my fish, corals and inverts show better with the lighting on the system. It runs very quietly and is so easy set up, take care of and get to the cambers when needed for your mods or add ons. I found the add ons like my sterilizer and skimmer to be more complicated to set up in the tank then the tank was. I get many compliments on my system and am even considering buying another if I find space to set it up for seahorses or something! I'd recommend if you have looked at this system to stop looking and purchase. Petsolutions through amazon is the cheapest I had seen it online and shipping is included!!I purchased the Biocube for my husband for his birthday. He had been wanting to start an aquarium, and this was the best aquarium to get started. It was so simple to set up and it's thriving with aquatic life after just a few weeks. We've spoken with a local aquarium expert/salt water fish guru, and he even said that we had made a good choice in getting this aquarium. We are loving it and would recommend it for anyone starting out!Bought the cube from my local pet store. If you are looking at a smaller tank this is a great deal since you spend more on all the "parts" for a tank built from scratch than from this unit... BUT, 29-gallon is misleading. There is only 23-gallons of usable water space the additional 6 gallons is run through the filtration unit.Perfecto Manufacturing APF34602 Glass Canopy Aquarium, 60 by 18-Inch
