Marina Betta Kit LED Light

This light is billed as fully submersible, so I put it on the gravel of my betta tank, shining upwards to illuminate an ornament in the tank. After only 90 DAYS, the light has quit.

I thought LEDs were supposed to last "forever!" Obviously, this one is an exception to that rule.

I'm glad it was cheap, so I didn't lose much money. I'll look elsewhere for a replacement.

I bought this light as an experiment because I had to know how well it would light up the Marina Betta Kit. I was hoping that it would illuminate the entire bowl effectively lighting up my betta so that I could see his colors better. It did not accomplish that task in the slightest.

The placement and design of the LED only allows light to shine down and backwards effectively lighting up only the back 1/4 of the bowl. The only time the fish gets any light is when it is directly under it. Furthermore the light seems to create a reflection off the back wall which agitates my betta as it is constantly trying to fight his own reflection.

I've owned both the Marina Zen cube and now the Half-moon betta "kit" aquariums. I would suggest the half-moon is a lot better, since bigger and there is a lot more room for the fish to swim. Unlike the cube one, which is just way to small (they're very pretty, but my betta could barely swim in that thing! very unhealthy).

This light really ads up a lot to the beauty of the aquarium and the fish. I've put transparent blue glass rocks at the bottom, and the light would reflect on it making beautiful blue reflections. It's very pretty. It made my aquarium look like a piece of art, and my fish seems to like it.

I only wish there was a switch button. There is none. You have to unplug it to turn it off. But I might have a work around, since I'm considering getting a timer to automatically have the light turned on and off at the right time of the day.

On a side note, this lamp will not light up nearly as well if you have the cube version of the aquarium, because of it's design (the light only lighten up the back of the aquarium). I really recommend getting the half-moon version of the aquarium for the same price, not only is it bigger (and better for the fish, plus you get enough room to have some live plants in that thing -very pretty, and the betta will love it), but the light will look a lot nicer.

However, I do think this item is way overpriced for what it is. And at the local pet store, it was even more expensive! I find this quite ridiculous when I think of it, after all it's really just a cheap LED light (probably worth like 50 cents) and a small transfomer (probably made in china for a dollar). But it makes the aquarium look so much nicer.

This light puts out about the same illumination as a half burnt matchstick. I glued this in the lid for my one gallon beta tank, and I can barely tell it is even on. Don't waste your money on this, but having said that, I still haven't located a suitable waterproof replacement yet.

Im and avid fish and shrimp hobbyist. And for exotic shrimp they must have the cleanest water possible. This thing is small, easy to setup and no power required. It only has a hose connector, in the winter you shouldnt run your hose or risk freezing up your pipes. So simply got to the lowe's and buy a hose adapter for your faucet aerator. It costs like $4. The out put is slow but steady and in WA after the TDS reads about 110 or so out of the tap after it runs through the RO unit it is down to 5!!! I wish I got this sooner.

Aquarium Products Freshwater Biozyme

This stuff is great. Iv used it to cycle my 55, 20 and 36 gallon fish tanks. It takes a few days to cycle it.

I suggest you put this stuff onto your filter pad. I put it on the bottom of the foam and carbon inserts on the aquaclear filters. Putting it on the bottom will cause bacteria to grow a lot easier.

Also this is a water conditioner so when adding new water you can add this stuff to the tank and it will take care of chlorine and metals in the water.

This stuff will float around in your tank until your filter pushes it under, but if you soak it in a cup it will sink immediately, which I recommend doing.

Upon buying this I was under the impression that it was for saltwater and freshwater so I was disappointed when it came in and was only for freshwater (my mistake). As for actually making a difference in my tanks I would have no clue. My saltwater tank cycled in one week and one day so I would say that it must have done something right.

I'm not sure if this product actually works or not as far as helping to establish your beneficial bacterial colony. The "bacteria" is mixed in with bran flakes and floats around on the water surface. Really messy in a small aquarium. Might be okay for a pond or outside water garden with fish.

I use this in my pond. it works great. I have it attached to a canister filter that i made for the intake side and it filters the water clear and pumps up to the small waterfalls for that added effect. I bought this one to replace an identical pump that lasted for over 5 years running 24X7.

I wasnt sure if i should purchase this pump or not but decided to and worked out great. i lower the flow rate while feeding so my fish have a chance to eat. After 5 or 10 min i turn it back full blast and it circulates all the water very fast. The only issue i have with it is that it is a little noisy but I dont mind it since the fish tank is in the living room and not in my bedroom. Also the fittings that come with it does not work well so what i ended up doing was buying some fittings from HomeDepot to screw into the return end to get a tighter fit which at about $3 each but a simple fix. I would buy it again if they go out in the long run

Great pump; does the trick. If you are concerned about the noise factor, it tends to hum a little louder if it's sitting on the bottom of something I rigged up a suspension mechanism so the pump is more or less 'floating' in the water. Very strong pump I have a ball valve in the hose leading to the tank and have it open less than 1/2 way.

I was very excited to see this offer for an LED light for my marine aquarium. Usually they are three times the cost of this product. It was shippable to Canada, which a lot of products on the internet are not. The light itself is great and provides the right light for a reef tank. The lights are mounted on a piece of plastic and overall it is a very simple unit. The little covers that sit over each light are very loosely attached and fall off all the time. This is annoying, but otherwise I have no complaints about the light itself.

HOWEVER, the company sent me the wrong transformer (12V instead of 24V)and the wrong plug. They sent a European plug. When I phoned to complain, the staff who answered my call seemed uninterested in solving the problem. They just wanted me to return the product. Finally I spoke to technical support. They said they would send out a new transformer. Well it has been almost three weeks and no transformer. I finally went and got my own. The light works now and I said I am happy with it. But no thanks to LED warehouse.

So I would conclude that the unit itself is great, but the service is poor.

Man I bought this a couple of days ago. It came within 3 days, Perfect product. I got this for my 29 Gallon Saltwater Aquarium. It works like a charm. I set it up easy, directed it where I wanted my flow and plugged it in. Great product for cheap, Im even thinking about getting another one. Rio Plus 600 PT Venturi Water Pump for Aquarium

Let me first say that I'm using this pump to begin the cleaning process for a very dirty 75 gal tank that has been sitting around for a long while so it has only been running for a week or so.

That being said, it works great! The tank is about 3' tall and pumping it up that height reduces the output to around 65 gph so it won't be my main pump and it will most likely be part of a power head or in the sump/skimmer. However its small size makes it great for any of these applications and with its adjustable directional venturi intake and suction cups it will fit almost anywhere.

This is made for 15-55 gallon tanks. Unfortunately the product description doesn't state that so I found out when the package arrived and read it in big bold letters across the front of the package.

Hope that pertinent info helps someone else not buy the wrong size vacuum!

As far as the construction of the product it looks great and bulb vacuums really do make cleaning the tank half the work.

Although I did not buy this from Amazon, my resident shopping "store", I did buy it from a pet store. I have had an aquarium for 15 years and siphoning out the water was a chore, especially getting the water to flow at first. This is simple and works everytime. There is only one drawback. The intake tube and the tubing itself come apart when moving it around in the aquarium. I rememdied that easily by going to the hardware stoe and buying a clamp. Problem solved. Great product!!!

This is a great product for me, but did come with a learning curve not for the product/siphon itself, but how to make it work with my tank and its placement. I have a 75gal and a 100gal fish tank that are in my living room (not near a sink). This worked very well, but as someone said before, it moves water quickly, and without help, you have to stop the suction to dump the bucket. I bought some tubing at the local hardware store and a tubing adapter, attached these to the end of the siphon tubing put it out a window and now it waters (and fertilizes my plants as I clean). My siphon also got rocks stuck in it, but doesn't seem to pose any issues, just rattles and annoys me. Last but not least, I also had to turn the siphon bulb the other direction for it to properly work. Easy fixes, and now is a DREAM come true in helping clean two large tanks by myself.

This is an outstanding product for doing water exchanges and gravel cleaning with ease. Before I always would siphon using standard tube and starting the flow with my mouth haha, no more! Product works great. For the people who say they can't get it working try this:

I believe the siphon bulb is one way, because it wasn't working for me at first until I flipped it around.

Also, start by filling the vacuum tube with water and holding it up until the hose is filled. Then re-submerge the tube and pump the bulb to start the siphon.

I had never vacuumed a tank or siphoned anything before (I have a 60 gallon tank) and was able to use this without problems.

Hydor MINI HEATER Aquarium Heater 7.5 Watts for Tanks 2-5 gal

I bought these for my 2.5gallon killifish tanks. These heaters take up very little space in the small tanks, since they are flat.

But be aware that these heaters don't have temperature controls, so the water temperature will change when the room temperature changes. My tank temperature ranged from 92F to 70F with the heater plugged in from May to December. I had to unplug the heaters on very hot days. It seems that these heater will raise the water temperature in a 2.5gallon thank by 8 to10F over the room temperature.

Finally, all 6 mini heaters that I own have been reliable for 8 months now, and all are consistent in how much they heat the same volume of water.

I purchased this heater for our beta who lives in a 1 gallon jar; note the heater is spec'd for 2 to 5 gallon containers. During the winter we keep our house at 60 degrees and this heater keeps the jar at a consistent 72.

This heater works well, not bad for small tanks (5 gallons or less). I purchased this for my 1 gallon tank, and it heated the water up to the low 80s. The heater works submerged or placed under the tank. I keep my apartment on the cool side, so this heater did the trick. A word of warning, though--if you have a 1-gallon tank, make sure you have a thermometer in it, because if you keep your home temperature in the high 60s and into the 70s, chances are the heater will then heat the water too warmly, into the mid to upper 80s, at which point you'll have to unplug the heater and monitor the temp as needed. Still, not bad for the price.

My betta fish's water was mostly in the 60-degree range, below a betta's ideal temperature (70-80F). As a result, the betta was very inactive. I bought this heater for a one-gallon bowl, and it increased the water temperature about 10 degrees. Now the betta is very active.

Even though the specs say it's designed for a 2-5 gallon tank, I'd still recommend it for a 1-gallon bowl. Just keep an eye on the ambient temperature because this heater does not have an automatic shutoff.

I purchased the Hydor Mini 7.5W Heater for my .9 gallon tank with my betta. Note that the heater is spec'd for a 2-5 gallon tank. Before he had to deal with 70 degree temperatures, which is not ideal and borderline too cold. Since putting the heater under the gravel in the tank, the tank is now constantly between 75-80 degrees, which is the normal temperature for a betta. I highly recommend this product to keep your betta longer and keep him more comfortably.

Ok so I purchased one of these tanks about about a month ago. The unit is completely constructed from acrylic. The tank is built in to the unit and can not be removed.

PROS extremely light I'd say hole unit is around sixty to seventy pounds.

I had some reservations about ordering a tank so large and having it arive unscathed the unit came incased in a wooden shell and then spray foam was used to protect the tank. The unit could have fallen of the truck and Ben dragged down the street and would have made it out okay.

All descriptions I read on this tank and none really mentioned the components. I comes with a large multi stage filter with removable media trays. A nice air pump with a flow adjustment. A heater but to be honest I'd use the supplied heater for a twenty gallon tank not a fifty.under gravel filter with lift tube. The tank is plumbed with the drain/ pump intake in the center and the water out on the right corner. I will have to say I like the way they installed a tube on inside that brings water from the return side of the pump to the top and has a angled neck so as to eliminate the need for any hoses being run out side of the tank.

Plenty of plastic plants and more than enough of that small river stone substrate.

Not a bad lighting system dual bulb t5 I think not enouf for plants but okay for this setup. Very soft lines and bends no sharp edges light is mounted to top panel and when shut nothing is exposed.

Cons I am around five ten and standing on a step ladder I can not reach through the access panel in the top and reach the bottom very close but not quite. If substrate is added I might. I would like the tank to be removable. The filter is very tall and is difficult to install I purchased a 45 degree elbow because the hose kept bending and restricted water flow. Hoses are black I'd prefer clear so u can see how dirty they are. Under gravel filters with lift tubes are in my opinion useless. U have a pump sucking the water down from the bottom. Buy a decorative air stone and use that.

No cleaning tools i have purchased aquariums from this company before and always come with cleaning tools and net. The access panel on top could be larger.

This thing looks great and is constructed well bit expensive considering u shoud still buy a heater and any extra decor and fish your talking a couple hundred more.

12 Steps to Cycle a Fish Tank

Nobody wants to have unhappy, unhealthy fish in their aquariums. To ensure your fish are as relaxed and disease-free as can be, you will have to cycle your fish tank. Follow these steps to create the best environment possible for your fish.

Part One: Purchasing Your Cycling Fish

Understand the nitrogen cycle of a new fish tank. The nitrogen cycle, also known as the nitration cycle, is the process that breaks toxic nitrogen waste products into less harmful components. During the cycle, your aquarium will develop beneficial bacteria that are necessary for your fish to live healthy, happy lives.
- To go more in depth, your fish produce ammonia that can be harmful if it reaches high levels. Your aquarium will produce Nitrosomonas bacteria that will process ammonia and turn it into nitrite, another harmful substance. Luckily, cycling your aquarium causes Nitrobacter and other bacteria to grow that turn nitrite into nitrate--which is relatively harmless.
Select hardy types of fish for your cycling aquarium. You should buy a variety of fish that you plan to have in your aquarium later on. These fish need to be hardy in order to survive the cycling process. Your local pet shop will be able to give you more direction on the types of fish you should buy for your specific tank.
- For an aquarium made up of small community fish, Zebra Danios or White Clouds are good fish to start off with.
- Barb fish, such as Tiger Barbs or Cherry Barbs, work well in a slightly aggressive tank.
- Do not use goldfish, particularly Feeder goldfish for a cycling process. Goldfish become more susceptible to disease when they are kept in cycled tropical water.
Buy a limited number of fish. The number of fish will depend on the size of your aquarium and the type of fish that you buy. Buying a lot of fish will produce a large amount of waste, and could potentially cause some water problems during the cycling process.
- A general rule to follow is that for a 10 to 20 gallon tank, two to three small schooling fish should be purchased for the cycling process.
Place your fish in your tank. During the cycle, feed your fish carefully, making sure to only feed them what they need. Excess food that goes uneaten will decay and foul your tank's water.
- You can also perform a fishless cycle by adding ammonia chloride manually into the water. If you are afraid that you have purchased fish that will not be sturdy enough to survive a cycle, you can opt to add ammonia manually. If you choose to cycle your tank this way, know that you will have to monitor your chemical balances more closely so that you add the right amount of ammonia each day.
