Carib Sea ACS00110 Crushed Coral for Aquarium, 10-Pound

Carib Sea ACS00110 Crushed Coral for Aquarium, 10-PoundI was having PH crash problems in my fish tank when we moved to a town with a different tap water supply...for some reason I couldn't get my goldfish water to maintain a PH above 6.4!!! My poor babies :( I tried every chemical known to man, and it's a miracle my fish survived. I finally found a website online that suggested coral as a PH buffer. I put about 1/4 c in a hanging mesh bag into the water and keep it there 24/7...and now the PH is 7.4. I have a 14.5 gallon tank. I heard that mixing the coral straight into the substrate causes nitrate issues down the road when it breaks down, which is why I keep it in a bag. I can't support whether that is true, but my method has worked just fine so far, and I've replaced it once in the last year. I highly suggest trying this if you have the same issue like me!

AquaTop Aquarium Heater - 300W

AquaTop Aquarium Heater - 300WI bought three of these heaters different watts, now the 300w went into my 40, it ran the correct temp right outta the box. No messing with it at all, and has stayed constant for a week now. The 200 did the same, but I am having problems with one of the 100w. Will have to calibrate it when it settles down. but over all I am very happy with these heaters!

Update 2-23-2013

almost 8 months now, and all the heaters have not let me down. The 100w did calibrate and is keeping the 20g tank right @79 degree's in the morning when the house gets down to 67. Buying 2 more, to put into the 2 new tanks I just set up.

The AquaTop Aquarium Heater 300W is great for my 42 gal tank. Woks nice i keep the water temperature at 82 degrease. I live in a cooled state of the US.The windows are open and the fish tank is right next to the window. I recommend the water heater to everyone its great.

Contrary to other reviews, this is a fully submersible heater. It worked great and kept my temps +/1 degree constantly in a 90g reef tank. One day I come home and the water is at 86 degrees. Unplug heater, temp drops. Tried it again and heats constantly staying at 86 and will not turn off.

It did work flawlessly though for about 6 months and at an excellent price. May try a titanium heater this time around.

I bought it few weeks ago. had to calibrate it and then it works flawlessly. I highly recommend this fully submersible heater. Temperature stays within 1+/degree. It switches on off as per the need to maintain a constant temperature.

The only small issue I had was the cord was shorter then I expected, I think its about 4 or 5 feet, or maybe I got used to having 6 feet with the earlier one.

I plan to have more tanks in the near future and I would buy this one in a heart beat.

Good quality stuff somehow for cheap cost. Time will tell.

Ringlit® 2013 New Version! 3W Aquarium 3 Mode Flexible Tank Lamp 48 LED White & Blue Light 85-265V

RinglitĀ® 2013 New Version! 3W Aquarium 3 Mode Flexible Tank Lamp 48 LED White & Blue Light 85-265V+Power Adapter Saving Energy, Touchable Inductive Switch with Submersible Thermometer for Free. This light is just like the ones at PetSmart, but smaller. I have a 30 gallon long tank and I bought 2 of them. I really like the night light and the fact that they don't get hot.

Alrght these actually rock~ I had to cut a bit into the plastic rim of my aqueon five gallon tank to fit it but once I did this thing was the BOMB.

I had the tank full of java fern, java moss, morimo ball, rotalal, some small grass species, and then some anubias.

Nothing got algae on it and we'd leave it on for over 10+ Hours at times if we forgot to turn it off. It also doesn't get hot to the touch, and was very cheap. I love this thing, every week on my low tech 5g a new anubias leaf would pop up. I highly HIGHLY Recommend using this on tanks 5g and below its amazing. I was very skeptical but after using it was great!!

Considering the power requirement of only THREE watts I thought I'd give these units a try on my aquarium. I placed one on a 20 gallon high and it seemed a little dim so I added a second one and it looked very nice! The only question at this point is the longevity of the unit itself. I have heard that many of these less expernsive fixtures are prone to short life spans. I have had two running nine hours a day on the aquarium I mentioned for over a month with no issues. So far, so good and I'm very happy with the results. The only isssue worth mentioning at this point is they are designed to mount on an aquarium (the newer 'nano' style tank) without the plastic edges, that is directly to the glass. I worked around this by using a section of "luan" plywood which I clamped below the tank andf have it jutting about two inches above. This works very well. The cost savings in electricity alone will be well worth the purchase price if the durability is adequate. BTW, four stars is due to the longevity issue.

This is not a big light but it works great for my 6 Gal tank. I also like that the light is enegy efficient and does not get hot. I have searced and even though the price of shipping is nearly half the price of the product it is still a very good deal. I have only had this for about a month so I do not know how long it will last but so far it has done a very good job.

This light flickers one and off, and when it does stay on it switch randomly from whites to blue. Also the clamp won't fir over a standard rim!!!

Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPH

Hydor Koralia Nano 425 Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPHThis works very well for my 37 Gallon. It really is quite and creates just enough circulation in my aquarium to keep the water moving nicely. I wouldn't say it does an excellent job eliminating all the "dead spots" in the tank but the fish seem much happier and my feather duster looks so nice flowing in the current.

The size is perfect for small aquariums and hides nicely next to my filter so it really isn't obtrusive.

I am considering getting a second one just to increase the flow and rid the tank of all dead spots.. I haven't decided yet but I love the product and this was the best price I found it for :)

I have to say that this circulation pump is amazing. Packs a lot of punch for something the size of an egg, and it's small size is what makes it so great. With the magnet base to attach it you can basically mount this thing anywhere in the aquarium. I originally bought it to add to my AquaClear Powerhead 400 for some extra flow but I was so happy with the performance, size, and neat clean look inside the tank that I have decided to retire my old bulky powerhead and replace it by ordering another Koralia Nano 425. I have a 29 gallon BioCube and I believe 2 of them will give the perfect amount of flow for my corals. Very happy with this product and I highly reccomend it.

This unit moves a lot of water in a broad, gentle path. The magnetic base works well; the unit is easy to reposition. The cord isn't bulky and is plenty long. The design is low-profile and much more attractive than your average power-head. So far no "suck-in" fatalities with my inverts I've even observed snails crawling over the housing without any apparent problem. Not as fully adjustable as I had hoped to achieve the optimum direction, but once set it stays put.

This pump is VERY quiet, you actually have to see the water moving to know it's running. I also have the larger sizes but this one is great for smaller spaces. The magnet suction cup is great and secure. It is not fully adjustable as far as the angles you can aim it, but has a decent range of motion. If you are debating between this and the 240GPH, go for this one as it is not as much movement as you'd think.

I purchased this power head for my 10 gallon nano-reef. I was kinda afraid that it might have been to strong of a flow, but after about 2 min after i installed it, my clown and my chromi where playing in the stream. it has been the best investment to date aside from my lights. it makes feeding a breeze, it circulates the food, keeping it from falling to the sand bottom and giving the fish ample amounts of time to eat. i also use it when i dose my tank with PH buffer, i pour the PH buffer over the top of the power head and it circulates it through the tank. so anyone with a 10 gallon, don't hesitate to buy this.

Aquatic Creations Static Cling Aquarium Background, 36 by 18-Inch, Ruins

Aquatic Creations Static Cling Aquarium Background, 36 by 18-Inch, RuinsThe "Ruins" scene background shows a colosseum underwater. I was looking for a background that had sun rays shining into the water. It is a nice background but I wish the sun's rays and colosseum were more pronounced. Once it is on, all you really see is blue. So I was disappointed with that.

The good part is that it was easy to attach. The trick was using a spray mister and spraying water on it before smoothening it out using a credit card. Some bubbles in the plastic but not much. A big plus is that I did not have to use tape or any adhesive. No sticky stuff on the tank. It is made of rather thick plastic so it should last a long time without ripping or pealing off.

Overall I am happy with this item. It is well made, easy to apply, and I like the blue color (just wish the design showed more.)

The image is really striking, and installation was fairly easy, considering it went on an already-full 36 gallon tank on a corner stand. But! Let me warn you, gentle reader, as the material is a static-cling vinyl film, if you live in a house with cats it is im-fricking-possible to apply without one or two cat hairs trapped between the film and the glass, where they appear (from the viewing side of the aquarium) to be eels, drawn in black Sharpie by a spastic 3-year-old. Best installed on an empty aquarium in some sort of particle-free surgical clean room.

Sicce Voyager 1 Power Stream Pump, 607gph

Sicce Voyager 1 Power Stream Pump, 607gphGood concept but poor product. Larger then expected and bulky with spinner. Real weakness is suction cups can't hold it steady, then when you adjust the angle etc.. they pull off as well as the plastic clip to hold pump pops loose. I put it back in box and wrote it off as a test, also is not quiet like my Koralias. Maybe extra cost magnet option would help will placement issues but frankly it looks stupid and obtrusive in the tank.

TetraPond 26579 Cylinder Prefilter for Water Garden Pumps

TetraPond 26579 Cylinder Prefilter for Water Garden PumpsThis is a simple submerged pump pre-filter. I got it for my Tetra 1000 gph pond pump. It's not very big, about 7 inches long and 4.5 inches in diameter. It comes with a foam insert already, you won't need to buy one.

What's in the kit:

1 plastic pre-filter (cylinder)

1 foam core (coarse)

1 4" long 1" diameter hose

1 3/4" tube fitting

1 1" tube fitting

1 1.25" tube fitting (fits my pump but doesn't fit this filter!)

Using the fittings and the hose you attach the pre-filter to the pump. The pump draws the water in through this pre-filter and basically works as a coarse filter to catch large pieces of junk in the pond from fouling up the impeller in the pump motor. I've used other filters like this before and you'll need to remove the foam insert at least once a week to clean it out with a jet of water from the hose. If you don't, the water intake will be slowed down considerably and that could damage the pump.

The surface area of the filter material isn't great so I'd only recommend using this for smaller ponds (maybe 500 gallons or so) but so far it works great. With the warming of the weather there has been a lot of new algae growth in the water and over night this filter pretty much cleared the pond of the stuff.

One problem with this filter is that the fittings don't really fit like they're supposed to. The outlet of this filter is 1 inch and the inlet of my Tetra pump (which it is supposed to work with) is 1.25 inches, so you'll need to buy some adapters and hose clamps from the hardware store. I also attached a handle to the filter opening so that it will be easy to open and take the filter to be washed. Overall, once you've got the adapter this filter works great, and it's a really great price as well.

Update: I had to go to the hardware store to find step up and down adapters because the filters and the pump had different size hoses but I've found that Laguna sells hose fittings and adapters that make connections between different sized hoses a snap. Just follow the links below:

Laguna Y-Connector Supplied with 3 Click-Fit Connectors, 1-1/4-Inch

Laguna Multi Hose Adapter, 3/4 to 1-1/2-Inch

3 week update: So far this filter has worked extremely well. It's very easy to clean, I just pull it up with a hook and take the foam out and rinse off. In 3 days (at the most) it filtered out all the suspended stuff that was in my pond and the water is crystal clear now. On further reading the instruction manual (which Tetra should put on it's website as a pdf file) I've found that you can serially attach 2 of these filters end to end to make a longer filter, and at the current extremely discounted price, there is no reason not to!

Pros:

1) Price, price, price!

2) Modular system.

3) Very easy to maintain.

4) Works very well so far.

5) I've read that Tetra has good customer service, hope I won't have to use them. They even have an 800 number listed on the box.

Cons:

Needed to get adapters for the hose because intake and outlets not fitting with other Tetra products it was supposed to, but not a big deal now that it's done.

1 year update:

I went totally overboard with this and now have 4 of these pre-filters. I attached them 2 on each side of the pump with a Y-connector. It clears up all the debris and algae in the water so my water is crystal clear. And because I have 4 of them, I don't need to clean them every week. I have them in series so when the first one is gunked up, the next one will take over. Totally rocks!

Easy to clean, works well in my 150 gal garden pond, my goldfish are thriving in FL! Item arrived promptly, easy to install.

Baby biOrb Swap Top Green Glow - 4 Gallon

Baby biOrb Swap Top Green Glow - 4 GallonI bought this green swap top for my baby biorb to give it some fun color. The top was easy to swap out and the bottom fit right on the over the bottom, looks great. Great improvement over the basic black...you are supposed to empty most of the water to put the bottom on but I didn't I just tilted the tank and it slid right on (and I am not strong at all) Really nice, soft, light green color, very pretty. I notified amazon and hopefully they will change this listing because it's for the green set yet the picture for this item (as of 3/2/11) shows the yellow swap top set and the description says "tangy yellow".

Marineland PC-ml160 Multi-stage Canister Filter

Marineland PC-ml360 Multi-stage Canister Filter- 55 to 100-Gallon, 360GPHI traded up to the C-360 after using the 350 Magnum for 7 years.

The C-360 is a great canister filter, if you pay attention to directions and use some common sense.

Keep in mind that this is a professional series filter its not for the average hobbyist who will pull it out of the box, hook it up (without understanding instruction), and watch the pretty fish swim by.

Here is what I found -

1). The filter weighs 23lbs empty it holds 2.5 gallons of water at 8.5lbs per gallon. When full of media and water, this filter weighs 45lbs. Not something you want to move around a lot.

2). Since I considered myself a semi-pro fish keeper I hooked the filter up without reading or understanding the instructions A Big Mistake. Micro-bubbles and leaking like you wouldn't believe.

3). Take the time to inventory what is in the box and understand the components.

4). Per the instructions, keep the hoses to a minimum length. A straight shot from the canister to tank is best. (I found this vital to eliminating micro-bubbles).

5). When hooking the hoses to the canister mechanism, DO NOT hand tight only. You will need to use a wrench to completely tighten. Caution do not over tighten or plastic will crack. (this step is vital to eliminating micro-bubbles)

6). Make sure the canister is full of water prior to priming. Instruction say 2 pushes of the prime button ignore this and plan on 10-15 pushes with some wait time in between.

7). Placement of the media baskets in the canister is CRITICAL. Make sure the top cylinder of each tray has the rubber gasket on (these fall off easily).

8). Place the bottom basket in the canister, next one on top. Critical that you stick your finger down the hole to make sure the 2nd tray is seated on the 1st. Repeat for all trays. Make sure they snap together.

9). Make sure to keep the rubber ring (gasket) on the top lid lubricated. I used small amounts of vaseline it works great.

10). On 1st set up you can expect micro-bubble for the first few hours. You can wait it out, or slightly tip the canister to a side to remove faster. If bubbles prolong check that your hoses are tightly connected. No hand tightening. Check that you have the shortest possible hose run and that it is not obstructed.

11). I would highly recommend this filter to anyone who want to pay attention to detail, and set it up correctly. Leaking and Micro-bubbles are for those who don't understand how the filter works.

I am not sure why other's have reviewed this filter with "micro-bubbles". I have been using my C360 for a 60-Gallon tank and have been nothing but delighted. It does take some patience setting each tray appropriately on each of the previous tray placements, but the unit is difficult to snap the top on if all trays aren't set propery. To me, this is a self evident tip, I haven't done something right... Not a problem with the unit itself. Other than a few drops of water when I remove the tubing head, there is no mess at all around the aquarium. Very easy to use, very efficient, and very quiet...

A great filter... I am buying two more for my soon to be aquired 125 Gallon...

I am a noobie when it comes to Aquariums...however, the new home I purchased had an outdoor Koi pond, which was not deep enough to keep them out during the winter (in the Northeast). I went and purchased a 125 Gallon tank and the C-360...it is very easy to use, and when you need to clean it, just turn a knob, pull out the hoses and take the filter away without spilling but maybe a drop of water...clean it, flush it and connect it and you are back and running...VERY easy...my water looks clear and clean with 12 Koi! :)

The reviews left by others had stopped me from buying the ML360 canister filter.

I was trying similar products with better reviews that ended up not working for my set up.

Fluval 306 too loud for me.

Aquastop Canister too loud, impeller rattle, not enough room for the media I liked to use. The UV Sterilizer is a plus!

As a last resort I purchased the ML360. After 1 week of running this filter I have no complaints, yet.

I wanted something that was quiet. A low hum was ok, I just didn't wan't to hear the filter when I was reading or trying to fall asleep.

I love the sturdiness of this filter, everything seems to be of good quality plastic, nothing is cheap, thin, or mediocre. Clamps snap on firmly.

The vinyl tubing has a 3/4" inner diameter and 1" outer diameter and its tough to manage, but not impossible. A few cuts and adjustments does the trick.

I was having a hell of a time keeping the intake U-tube in place while adjusting the heavy hosing. I ended up using a 90* elbow to get to the filter to prevent any kinks.

I didn't like the media that the filter came with. I use SeaChem's media (bottom to top) Carbon Matrix, PhosGuard, Purigel, Matrix, and ML Polishing Pad included with the filter.

Water flow is great, i'm using am in-line 10 Watt UV sterilizer on the return line and the water pressure hasn't gone down at all.

The water exhaust nozzle has a vent adjustment so you can aim to different streams of water, very useful. I have one disturbing the surface tension on the tank and one going down and towards the far side of the tank.

What you will like: It is quiet, NOT silent, you can hear a low hum, but it doesn't over power a quiet room. (Bedroom in my case)

What you should consider: Take an hour out of your schedule to get the tubing just right. I suggest getting some 3/4" 90* elbows if your aquarium stand has a small opening for hoses and cables. I 'd spend the extra $40 and get your own media.

Side Note: Media of good quality that will mitigate water changes and keep the aquarium crystal clear. I find SeaChem good for this. The 4 years i've been keeping fish I find that SeaChem products are the best, never had issues with Ammonia, Phosphates, Silicates and Nitrates stay around 10ppm. I usually do a 30% water change every month. Media change/re-charge every 4 5 months.

Good luck finding what you're looking for. Hope I helped you in some way.
