The box is labeled with a UPC code that matches the Coralife-branded filter on several other websites, so maybe this was a problem with the supplier, or maybe somebody bought the real thing and returned it with a cheaper brand inside thinking Amazon wouldn't catch it. I'm exchanging it and a new one is being shipped. When it's received I will update this review when I find out if the correct brand is shipped this time.I make a lot of water for my salt water tank, this product insures that I get all chemicals out of the water. K&H Ultimate All-In-One Stock Tank De-Icer Removable Floater Ring
The quality is perfectly fine, and the engineering is clearly geared towards being able to withstand curious equines.. I don't know that they are built to last till the end of the earth, but they are solid and should work at least a couple of years. At about 10% of a cost of typical vet colic call, I'd say they are well worth the money (not to mention now I can sit in my house, in my pyjamas and have my morning coffee without worrying that i have to go break the horses' water again ... and again, and again and again).
I think the reviewers who said they do not work might be either (1) trying to heat too large of an area (a pond? really????) or (2) just got defective units, which happens with all electrical appliances now and then. Either that or we got really lucky but none of our five have had any problems at all and they do exactly what they are intended to do at a good price with minimum fuss required. If one of mine broke I'd buy another one in without a second thought.Bought this for my 700 gallon pond after the Farm Innovators Heated Pond Saucer Model PS-200, 200-Watt deicer started to trip my GFI after only 2 months of use! (After taking that one from the water, could hear water slooshing around inside the disk.)
Seems like a good design because of the option to have it float or not, the 250 watt option and it's not a disk that will eventually leak in water.
I was leery of buying this because it said it is for a stock tank but the coils are surrounded so I don't see a way that it could damage a pond liner.
This one has kept the water open for the 1-2 months since I've bought it. I just hope I'm able to use it next year!

We are using this de-icer in a 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. It works great! We took off the float part to make it submersible, the horses are leaving it alone. The clip keeps the cord somewhat secure to the side. Temps dropped to 18F last night and no ice to be seen in the tank.Check the website for K&H Manufacture to see what zone you are in and which wattage will work best for you. I was surprised to find that a 250w would work with a 50 gallon, but it does. Less of a drain our electric and wallet!
For us and our horses, this was a good buy!

Wow! I cannot believe the performance of this mighty 250W de-icer. Right after I purchased it, we had 3 weeks of below freezing weather so it got a work-out. The K&H is in a 150 gallon tank (it is only rated for 30 gal in our climate). Occasionally in the morning there is some ice on the edges, but plenty of ice free water for my horses. I am planning to purchase another for a second tank. This is a great product.Want K&H Ultimate All-In-One Stock Tank De-Icer Removable Floater Ring Discount?

I bought my betta a few weeks ago as a pet for college. Unsure of what container to get, or how much room I would have on my desk, I opted for this bowl.I have been very pleased with this product. Although the bowl is smaller than I would like, my fish has grown increasingly happy and responsive the longer he has lived in it. There was enough room to place a small "fish castle" in the middle, which he absolutely loves! It gives him a wonderful place to hide, but also something to do. I also placed a few small rocks at the bottom for him to rest on, and to compliment his color.
Unfortunately, this bowl does not have a filtration system, so it requires almost daily examination/care. This is not a huge issue for me, but I can assume that it will become too much work eventually.
I plan on switching to a larger, filtered tank eventually, but for now, this bowl has been great for my happy, healthy little friend. :)

Kritter Keeper, Small
The slats that you can see in the picture are big enough for many bugs to escape. What you can't see in the picture, is that for some reason the designers decided to add 2 much larger holes on one side of the top...
These holes are big enough to allow a Yellowjacket to escape. (Ask me how I know.)Make no mistake, you shouldn't try to keep animals in the Kritter Keeper indefinitely if they are of any real size (larger than a few inches) or if they are fish. However, these containers are absolutely ideal for insects and other creepy-crawlies like spiders, centipedes, worms, and any other "bug". I highly recommend these for people who catch bugs outdoors in warm weather. Great for kids!
By the way, I wouldn't rely on that handle. It looks a tad flimsy. Carry the Keeper by its sides.

So I think to myself this 4 bulb unit is an awesome light I should add the 2 bulb to augment it. Looks the same must be the same quality cool.
It's NOT. This 2 bulb fixture is ridiculously cheaply constructed in comparison. You have to take the thing apart to install the feet and the shield. So to clean the shield you have to remove the side cover (4 screws). However, that's not really a problem since the SHIELD won't STAY IN THE FIXTURE. They used such thin aluminum in this light that it is flexible like thin cardboard. There are no midbraces to the center of the light cover and it flexes outwards due to the thinness of the metal and the shield falls out and hangs into the tank.
Legs are cheap, difficult to install also require the removal of the side cover, and the unit is so lightweight that one false move and it's off the tank or horrors in the tank...
the 10k bulb is is very yellow weird almost like a FW plant light.
Aquatic Life should pull this off the market and redesign it into something higher quality and keep the price the same.
However I would recommend this item http://www.amazon.com/Aquatic-Life-4-Lunar-Aquarium-48-Inch/dp/B0030VD4OU/ref=pd_sim_sbs_petsupplies_6I have been using 2 of these over my 55 gallon reef tank for more than a year now and I can grow anything! The reflectors are great and really focus the light down into the tank. The included bulbs are crap so make sure to replace them with quality ones (ATI, Geissman, etc.) I'm growing SPS corals 18" below the surface with these fixtures.

This isn't a knock on the product, but please be wary when you purchase these kind of light fixtures online two of the last three I've ordered have arrived with at least one shattered bulb, and anything fragile shipped via UPS usually turns into bad news for me. This isn't universal to buying online, when I buy bulbs at my local fish store the first one I inspect is often in pieces, but at least locally you can get a good one before leaving the store.Despite arriving with a broken bulb, it was packaged better than some of the non-HO T5 units I've had shipped to me. The bulbs were wrapped in plastic, which made it easy to clean up (I didn't have to go fishing to make sure I'd gotten every piece of glass out of there), and the bulbs had a few small pieces of styrofoam wrapped around them for support (better than nothing).
The plastic lens cover as they call it has plastic you have to peel off of it on both sides to protect it, but after doing so I immediately noticed mine was dirty and a bit scratched up anyway. It's also a hair too long, when I re-attach the end cap you have to remove to slide the cover in, it keeps trying to pop out of the fixture.
The power cord is also too short, in my opinion. It's 2 meters (just over 6.5 feet), but fish tanks combined with their stands can be pretty tall, and this unit on my tank sits at over five feet up and I honestly don't like keeping surge protectors that close to my tanks. Obviously this can be solved with an extension cord.
The product also did not come with a manual or any instructions at all how to put it together. You can find one pretty easily at Aquatic Life's website, and this may have just been an oversight, but was definitely a little inconvenient.
Other than that, it's a basic T5 HO unit no timer (have my own anyway) or moonlights. But the thing that's honestly attractive about it is its price.

I bought this product in April and it's early September. I noticed last week one of the bulbs was not working. Bought the same AquaticLife Bulbs and it still didn't work. We tried them in another fixture and WOW!!! They worked. The light went out in just 6 months. AquaticLife said they have a 12 month warranty. I got ahold of them and this warranty was I pay the shipping there and back plus parts. This came up to what the light was brand new. In conclusion this is a bad choice. You get what you pay for and my livestock and me paid the price. A product that does not last 6 months is not safe for a costly reef setup and it could cause a huge loss of money as it did me. All I can do is tell you what happened to me and wouldn't wish this on anyone.Want Aquatic Life Light T5 HO 2-Lamp Link Marine Aquarium Light, 48-Inch Discount?

I wish the intake and output holes were larger. My pump discharges a 1.5" pipe and I have to reduce it to a 1.25" pipe in order to connect to this filter. I had it for about a year now and it works well.Read Best Reviews of Tetra Pond Bio-Active Pressure Filters Here
Received as promised from Amazon. Installed filter to my 1000 gallon fish pond. Has been installed and running for 5 days now and already I can see the difference. My prior filter was to small, over the years my fish population has grown. So a new filter was in order. Tetra Pond Bio-Active Pressure Filter is working perfectly. On installation, I dug a hole and used the 20 gallon bucket (from a big box home store for around $10) and sat the filter in the bucket. I used 11/2" PVC pipe as my backwash with a union to make it easy to disconnect for winter storage. The only downside is it's all plastic, so be careful when tightening all fittings, I also recommend usingteflon tape on the fittings. 5 stars for both Amazon and Tetra!

After looking at many filters I decided on this one to go along with the Tetra Pond Debris-Handling Pump DHP3600.My pond would not stay clear with my old pump and filter combo.
this filter and pump combo worked very well and with in 2 days i could already tell a difference that the pond was clearing. Using the back flush was a lot easier and more efficient than my old combo.
the only issue i have with this set up is the hose connections. to remove the hoses from the filter you need to undo the hose clamps which can be a minor inconvenience.
after about a week i had to open up the filter and clean it as a ton of sludge build up in there, i have back flushed it once since then and all is going well.
over all I am very happy with this filter.
Fluval Spec V Aquarium Kit, 5-Gallon
I give this tank a 5 star rating, even considering the strong filter pump. The pump can be adjusted to a setting that is quite manageable when you adjust the swivel output nozzle to point towards the bottom and against the glass. There are quiet spots in the water, even in this 5.5 gallon aquarium, that my Half Moon Betta can hover in and look very peaceful. Plus, I put in a large piece of hollow driftwood to give my Betta a place to escape if need be. Actually, he seems to enjoy the water output (which is 1" from the top of the water line) as he often swims directly up into the stream all the way to the top of the tank. He'll do this three or four times, then pull over and rest. I imagine he's getting some fishy exercise. Reminds me of a dog hanging his head out the window of a moving car. In still water, Bettas tend to be calm swimmers, but this tank provides just enough room and water circulation to keep my Betta quite active. And he's not being pushed around, he's patrolling the tank like the Type A personality that Siamese Fighting Fish are know to be.
The construction is clear glass. I have 5 small live plants, a moss ball, smooth gravel and the driftwood. The underwater pump is the quietest I have ever had, and I've been maintaining aquariums for over 20 years. It's on my desk and I sit about 2 feet away. I hear the air conditioning, the refrigerator and conversations outdoors before I can hear this pump. Perfect for an office environment.
The filtration is biological and physical with the water running through a corse sponge, a small bag of charcoal and a bag of porous coral pellets. The pump is amazing. At full speed it could easily keep a salt water reef healthy. But by reducing the outflow and adjusting the nozzle, the surface of the water is so calm that my Betta can easily grab some air wherever he is in the tank. Remember to adjust the pump's output BEFORE you put it in the tank, because it sits on the bottom and you'll need a long stick or the handle of your net to push it down.
The LED light is pretty, but not strong enough for the plants I have, so I have the tank near a window to pick up some indirect sunlight throughout the day, and some direct sunshine for a few minutes in the early AM. Once my tank is biologically stable, I plan to add an African Dwarf frog and a couple of Rainbow Tetras. That's close to being overstocked, so I will probably have to do a 20% to 25% water change each week. We'll see how the water tests out.
To recap, this is perfect Betta tank with lots of room for his highness to roam and a little more space for some tank companions (especially when you consider the strength of the filtration system). But, from a name like Fluval, it had to be great, right?

I actually have this tank in Black, not that the color makes a difference in how it all works, which is very well indeed. The sponge filter medium is HUGE for the size of the tank, and has two good-sized cutouts to hold the bio-beads and any other medium you might want to put in the filter. I added a second bag of bio-beads as this tank was replacing a "standard" 5 gallon that had a betta and a couple oto cats in it. By using the bio-beads from the existing tank's filter I had no concerns about cycling the tank before moving my fish into it.
The filter pump is surprisingly powerful for its small size, even on the lowest setting, so much so that I had to make a spray bar return for it to reduce the force of the water coming back from the filter. My betta was getting "blown" around the tank because the current was so strong, and it made us both unhappy. With the home-made spray bar my betta was much more comfortable.
Because the center of the lid is open (so it doesn't block any of the light from the LEDs) the tank is prone to evaporation loss more than it otherwise would be. As I do weekly water changes this isn't much of an issue, and it is common with open-topped tanks anyway. But I wanted others to know that it is something to deal with if that matters to you.
The light works well and my live plants are growing nicely with it. The screw that holds the light bar in place is only plastic, and seems to have stripped the threads even with careful handing, so I will probably have to replace it with a metal screw so the light bar is more secure. I have the light on a timer, so the 2-way switch for white vs. blue LEDs is not an issue to me, but if you don't use a timer on the light you'll have to manually switch from white daytime to blue nighttime lighting.
Everyone who's seen the tank comments on how good it looks! I'm very glad I bought it even with having to make the minor modification of the filter return. For fish that like a strong current or a nano marine tank the powerful filter pump would be ideal.

The all in one design and stylish look are what made me notice this tank. I had fish when I was young, and its a hobby I have been out of for many years. I bought the smaller version of this as a gift for a friend (2 gallon), putting a betta and 2 dwarf frogs in it along with some decorations. After seeing how nice the small desktop version looked and functioned I was hooked and decided to get one for myself. I went with a slightly larger version since not being kept at the office, but fits really nicely on a desktop and adds life to the room. Definitely think this would make a great "first" tank for a child or novice. One small problem was that the original item had a leak (Pinhole leak at the front bottom right corner). Amazon and Petco were very accommodating and I could return/exchange at the store. Replacement tank had an issue with the blue LED and Petco manager allowed me to exchange just the light without having to take down the entire tank. I am appreciative of receiving reasonable customer service and would say that despite my challenges Petco really made an impression by making the exchange process as painless as possible.
My own Betta seems thrilled to have so much space to swim. 1" of fish per gallon is always the recommended max capacity for an aquarium, so I may add a few ADF's and couple ghost shrimp or a snail to clean up as I have a bad habit of over-feeding. I would very much recommend adding a 25 watt heater as it fits nicely in the filter compartment and most fish will be more active if they are kept at tropical temperatures of 72-80 degrees. Additionally, the filter output is very strong so if you have fish (like a Betta) that prefer still water remember to set the air pump at its lowest setting.
Overall: If not for the 2 minor manufacturing defects (Not the fault of Petco or Amazon) this would get 5 stars not 4. For a solid glass aquarium the Fluval Spec V makes it easy to enjoy having a tank with minimal maintenance or knowledge required. I expect to enjoy this for years to come.

I like this tank. A lot. The dimensions are interesting and attractive, without being impractical. It's an expensive 5 gallon tank, but a standard 5 1/2 with a glass canopy, filter, and LED light wouldn't be all that much cheaper to put together. The hidden pump and sponge filter block are a big plus, as is the ability to hide a heater in the same compartment. The plastic lid is fine, a bit more trouble than a hinged canopy but nothing major. The narrow footprint makes it possible to situate in places a tank this size wouldn't normally fit. If it's a close call however take note, the tank is indeed less than 7 inches wide (the stated measurement) but the plastic frame around the bottom is almost 7 1/2 inches, so it needs to sit on something wide enough to support the frame.I like sponge filters and simply toss out the carbon and redundant ceramic rings. Neither is necessary. I do slice the filter block about one third of the way down so I can remove and rinse the top part of debris without always pulling the entire thing out. A little 8 watt "Betta" type always on heater has been more than sufficient right now, in the winter I'll use a thermostatic type. I haven't needed to buffer the filter as I do with the 2 gallon Specs, the extra space makes it quiet enough for short finned plakat and giant bettas. For heavily finned Bettas, a piece of sponge over the duckbill exhaust nozzle works perfectly.
The light is just bright enough for low light plants, the blue LEDS are pretty, but even for "moon" light, a bit dim. In a lot of pictures I see the light fixture seems to sag, if the screw is tightened it seems to stay perfectly straight for me.
I really like this style of tank by Fluval, I hope they expand the line with more sizes.
