its not "hardwood," which is a little disappointing, it is made of that compressed fiber board with a laminent coating to look like hardwood, but it still looks very good (I only complain because for the price, I would expect hardwood).It weights about 15-20lbs, and is VERY sturdy. I weigh 175lbs and can stand on it without issue. should hold any fishtank that can fit put on it!
