Active Aqua 6" Air Stone - 12 Pack

Active Aqua 6' Air Stone - 12 PackThese air stones are decent. Not great, not terrible. They don't seem to be constructed really well which concerned me initially but ended working okay. A few of the stones get more air toward the back of the stone (where the air comes in) and almost none toward the end. The ones that get even air distribution work great. I guess its a good deal for the price.

This does what the big 4-5 dollar stones u might find locally. I give it good ratings on oxygen amount, size, and price. A little brittle I dropped one barely and it quickly broke so their not as tough as ur large stones but they perform as well just require more care

Aqueon Quietflow Submersible Aquarium Utility Pump 8000

Aqueon Quietflow Submersible Aquarium Utility Pump 8000I have a 180 gallon freshwater african cichlid tank. I have a wet dry filtration system with 35 gallon sump tank.

My old pump was (Mag 3 pump) was only pumping about 200gph and was very noisy.

As soon as I installed the Aqueon QuietFlow Submersible Utility Pump 8000 (Model AQ8000) I noticed the difference in water circulation instantly. WOW!!!! This pump is AWSOME!!! This pump in rated about 1800gph with my setup. My fish love the new currents and fresh clean circulation throughout the (180 gallon) tank with no dead spots.

I only had the pump for about 2 weeks but so far so good. I recommend this pump for 180 gallon tanks or above.

UPDATE!!!

After 4 months of use suddenly this pump is very noisy and motor sometimes tries to stop and start at will.

WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!!

Hydor 50W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original Theo

Hydor 50W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original TheoJust bought the 50W model for my 10G tank. I set it to 79 degrees, and the thermometer agrees to this *exactly*, even on the weak side of the tank away from the filter.

I know that I haven't had it long, but so far, so good.

UPDATE: 2 months in, it still heats well. The ambient temperature in the room has an effect on it, but the temp is staying +/2 degrees from 80. For a $20 heater, I'm satisfied with that.

I ordered this heater because the one I already had was a little too bulky for my 5gal tank. It has been running for several weeks now and the only problem I've had is it runs about 3 degrees F above the setting but it is very consistent with the temp. I like how small this heater is without sacrificing wattage, I like the dial on top that has actual degree settings, I also like that there is an on/off light. I would recommend this heater.

It is a good heater. I think the temp might be a little off. i have it at the highest setting and the thermometer says 77 degrees, but it is in a very cool room

You may have to tweek the temp a little but this works just fine. It's not that long so it does not hit the bottom of my tank and I use a peice of drift wood to hide it.

I've been using this along with an Apex controller and my temp is always between 77.5 and 78. No complaints but I've only been using it for a couple of months.

EHEIM Quick Vac Pro Automatic Gravel Cleaner and Sludge Extractor

EHEIM Quick Vac Pro Automatic Gravel Cleaner and Sludge ExtractorHi,

I beat up reviews of gravel vacs for almost a week. Look, this thing cost three times the normal 2 c-batt vacs. Just buy it. The thing is awesome. The upper area you see in grey-white is 6 inches of micro mesh plastic to fill up with garbage. You just press 2 buttons to detatch it and go rinse in out. The whole thing is submergable. Also the "On" button locks in. So you don't have to hold it. I didn't give it a 5 because I feel they could have added a cross under the impeller to not allow very small stones to get up in there. I had one lodge which made me have to disconnect the section and dump it out. No biggie. Just being picky since this is a review. Uses 4 AA included (Duracell) wow. Has great suction. I press the lower section all the way in the stone and it actually sucks down to the bottom of the tank. I would have rated this 4.8.

I have a 90 gallon tank and sometimes I don't want to perform a water change to get the bottom of the tank clean. I had the multi-vac previously. I have no issues with that except over time, the pieces won't stay together. I bought the sludge extractor (PETCO) and I love it. It reaches to the bottom of my tank and I didn't have to drain any water. The pressure on the vacuum was more than adequate. I was a bit relunctant on the proce, but I'm happy I did buy it and would recommend it to others. Just shop around for the lowest price.

Buy EHEIM Quick Vac Pro Automatic Gravel Cleaner and Sludge Extractor Now

This was the second vacuum I purchased and I hope that by reading my review you will make this your first. There aren't a million electronic vacuums on the market but almost all of them cost less than this one. That makes them VERY tempting. However, there are many things that make this worth the money:

Plastic mesh filter: The cheaper ones exit into a cheap cloth bag that keeps coming loose.

Suction: This thing has GREAT suction. You can see all of the debris getting pulled up.

Easy to clean: Take off the filter and rinse it under the faucet.

Quality: This FEELS solid. The other vacuums feel cheap like they will break at any moment.

Works on larger tanks: It comes with an extension that you can use if you have a mid sized tank.

Just wanted to share a tip. It doesn't look like it, but you can remove the cap at the bottom of the mesh filter to make it easier to wash out all of the debris sucked up by the vacuum.

This is a great tool if you want to clean up a bit between water changes, or if you want to clean up during a water change but don't want to take out too much water. Highly recommend.

I just got the Sludge extractor yesterday, and immediately rip the box open and tried it out. The product comes in a few pieces and nothing was crack or broken as other reviewers has experienced. They even included batteries for the extractor. Assembly was very easy, and a push of a button gets the little pump going. I would say that the sucting power is about the same as my gravel siphon, definately not stronger and no way would it be able to suck a fish up. (I have some neon tetras in the tank) The fine screen traps the "eek" and let the water flows out. It was easy to use and easy to clean. Although for some reason, the pump would stop on it's own for no reason at all. I have no problem with the battery cover, it seems secure enough and it never pop open on it's own. This product can be improved by having stronger suction power. Otherwise, it perform as what I expected from the product description.

Aquarium Tank, Glass, 20 Gal

Aquarium Tank, Glass, 20 GalI have had big 55 gallon fish tanks that have lasted years. I recently decided to have a tank again for my office but not as big. So I looked on amazon and decided on purchasing this 20 gallon tank. It did take longer to arrive but was packed expertly and nice heavy glass not like some pet stores that you would find. Heavy thick glass and well bonded/welded contruction at the seams! This should last forever!! Well worth the money!! Thank you !!

All around good tank Worth the money and extra expenses such as filter, substrate, hood, heater, and fish. Total set up cost between $280-300. Only small complaint is some of the caulk attach the bottom rim to the aquarium is excess and slightly visible if one is to really pay attention.

God Bless

Eclipse Aquarium Filtration and Lighting System

Marineland PFE2 Eclipse Illumination Kit Twin Lamps, fits 12-Inch by 24-Inch tanksI recently purchased this hood and paired it with a 20 gal glass tank. This is my first tank and I've found it to be very easy and hassle free. The tank stays very clean and clear and the fish seem to be very healthy and happy. It may be a little pricey compared to a standard setup, but for me, the ease of use and convenience of having everything in one package is worth it. And the top access makes maintenance easy. I currently have 5 zebra danios, 6 cory cats and 3 oto cats in the tank and all seem to be doing very well. I would highly recommend this item for the beginner.

I would also highly recommed purchasing and studying several books on fishkeeping (I bought and read at least 4) before purchasing any system and definitely before purchasing any fish!

Good luck and happy fishkeeping!

Yes, I noticed the rattling problem with the pump. It seems that if the impeller isn't inserted just right then there is this really annoying grating noise that over time will drive you nuts. But the solution is simple, take it apart, make sure everything is clean and spinning freely and just start it up again (something you will need to do anyway from time to time for maintenance).

I find the filter setup to work well though, and the overall design to be quite good.

The lighting? Whether you like it or not depends on whether you want real plants or not. 36 watts for a 25 gallon tank, like mine, is not going to cut it. So you have to find a retrofit system. Sunpaq has some options, but you're going to have to be fairly handy with some tools.

I ended up just removing the stock lighting and then cutting out a slot from both the front and back lift up covers and sticking a Coralife 130w unit over the top of the whole thing. About 5 watts per gallon will "get-er-done".

My advise to the Marineland people is to have some different lighting options available for their all-in-one hoods. I think they'd sell more, or at least be able to sell some retrofits or upgrades once people figure out that the stock system has these limitations. As is, the retrofits are coming from other companies.

I bought the thing because the sales dude told me I could upgrade the lighting later. He either knowingly lied, or didn't explain that I would be looking at an exciting retrofit project. ;o)

I purchased this tank 9 months ago and have been fairly happy with it. It looks nice. I love the rounded corners which look much better than the glued glass panes. The acrylic material is still holding up, but I am a lot more careful cleaning it than with glass. The only problem I've had with this unit is a rattling noise that seems to come from the hood. It can be quite for 10 minutes to a couple of days. Then it starts rattling. I adjust the hood and it goes away. Lately, in the last couple of weeks the pump has started with some serious rattling which I can't get rid of. It annoys me and I am sure the fish are even more annoyed. I cleaned the impeller and every surface of the pump, but without luck. So I think I have to go buy a new pump.

I love the convenience of it, etc. But the hood light has never properly worked -not on the first one, which I had for nearly three years, nor on the new one. Only one bulb illuminates -unless you take the darned thing apart and do quite a bit of maneuvering daily. Just thought I should share that with all.

Rena Air Pump

Rena Air 50 Air PumpOver 5 years ago, when I asked my local aquarium store for a recommendation on a quiet air pump I was told "Get a Rena". So I purchased one and hooked it up. The pump was so quiet that I couldn't even hear it operate which was important since the aquarium is close to my bedroom. Finally after years of faithful service the pump began to wear out with less and less output. I went to another aquarium store and was convinced by the sales clerk to get a Tetratec model. When I hooked it up it made so much racket that I couldn't sleep. I then went back to the orginal store and they sold me a rebuild kit for the pump for less than $8. I renewed the pump and once again it works flawlessly with no discernable noise. Rena pumps are just fine quality devices I highly recommend.

Tried several pumps, I own two of these pumps. I use them pump in a 55 gallon and a 46 gallon. Extrememly quite and powerful. Great purchase.

This is the most powerful quiet pump available. Hands down. Now, it's not the most powerfull available, but then again, who wants a turbine running in their house that they have to listen to all day? This pump is plenty powerful (only mildly less than the louder models) and a great choice. Believe me: I've tried them all. Pretty long lasting as well My last one kicked the bucket after 4 years of hard work.

I bought this pump today and hooked it up. It made almost no sound. You could only really hear it when you put your ear next to it. I have been ignoring the loud rattle that my old pump made for entirely too long. It costs more in the stores than the other pumps, but its well worth it. Heck, the fish seem happier without a big rattling thing vibrating their water, remember sounds carry better through water than air, so if its loud for you, imagine how it is for them!

I would definitely not recommend these check valves. I was looking for one to use in my CO2 injection system for my fishtank. The only options were $15 for a brass one or about $3 for two plastic ones, so I decided to try the cheap ones. After just the first night there was a fair amount of water that made it past the valve. They may work well for applications when there is gas (whether it be CO2 or just air from an air pump) going through the valve at all times, but if there will be times when there isn't, then I would look for something of better quality.

I gave it two stars because it IS cheap, so I sort of should have expected the outcome.

Hagen Marina Mermaid Goldfish Kit

Hagen Marina Mermaid Goldfish KitWe bought this tank for my daughter's third birthday. All was fine, until the fish started getting caught in the mermaid decoration. We've lost 2 fish now (and have taken the decoration out of the tank), because they died getting caught in there. It's a nice tank, filter works great, it's a good size for a child, but beware the death trap! We've since put other decorations into the tank that do not pose an entanglement risk.

I love this fish tank! I wasn't sure about the quality because we found it on sale (at a pet store) but it's amazing. I haven't had any problems with the filter, it works great, I did have to put it in the lowest setting, otherwise it's too strong for our poor Rosie (betta fish). I'm planning on laminating the background image so it's not ruined if it gets wet (it goes on the outside of the tank). I bought a light separately, along with a couple of purple and green plants, castle and treasure chest. You don't really need any of the "extras" but I saw the pink castle and chest at the store and had to have them. The plants were just to add a bit of color but I love how it turned out, I can't stop looking at it. And I think Rosie likes it too :)

Aqueon Flex LED Aquarium Bubble Wand, 14-Inch, Blue

Aqueon Flex LED Aquarium Bubble Wand, 14-Inch, BlueOver the past 40 years of keeping fish I've learned that for myself one of the greatest joys is of aquascaping. For years I had fish tanks that looked like well, fish tanks. Those dreadful backgrounds of other fish tanks, artificial plants and so on.

But like any hobby as long as your interest is there things tend to grow and change for the better. That said I've found one of the most inexpensive and creative way to make subtle to dramatic changes to most any tank is by using up lighting as the old saying goes "lighting is everything"

When Marineland came out with their LED wands I had them in many tanks in different numbers and colors, mostly the Lunar blue and white. The wands were just ok as they have a tendency to release and float to the top and the LED bulbs are quite dim.Enter the Via aqua wands much better. They're weighted and have stronger suction cups so they stay put, the LED bulbs are brighter but the air tube is rather weak and thin and like the Marineland they clog easy.

When I came across these bendable Led air wands by Aqueon I could just imagine the possibilities, circles, half circles, quarter moon. Building multi layered air columns and so on. My hunch was right and these wands are sensational.

The build quality is the best yet so far the main tube is stronger so you can feel free to bend these into virtually any shape you like. The outflow is generous and creates a wall of bubbles in an even beautiful flow. The main housing is a pliable rubber and each LED is incredibly bright, It's easy to adjust this by adding a lamp dimmer if you want a nice range of adjustment to the brightness. I would say this applies really only to the white as the Lunar blue has a much more softer hue and is closer to a true Lunar blue as you would find with over head LED lighting systems that offer this feature.

Bending these around your tank decor adds tons of visual appeal as well as great extra oxygen via the increased aeration one of the best things you can do for your fish.

I'm running a bunch of these in different sized tanks from 55's to 125 and up and find them to be a wonderful addition to every single one of them. I think any hobbyist will love these.

5 Fins Up!

I ended up ordering two of these. Going to get a white LED to add to the middle of the tank.

Buy Aqueon Flex LED Aquarium Bubble Wand, 14-Inch, Blue Now

Our tank looks beautiful. It is a planted tank with white rocks, blue and green glass discs, red rock hiding places. We just wanted more of backdrop. This bubble wand really did the trick. Blue lights with bubbles create a backdrop and set off the fish and plants more than ever! My only complaint is that at the furthest end if you turn the amount of air down, some of the holes don't let bubbles through. So a low setting isn't really ideal, so we just keep it on a medium setting and it works great!

Read Best Reviews of Aqueon Flex LED Aquarium Bubble Wand, 14-Inch, Blue Here

Obviously, you can find cheaper bubble wands out there that probably aerate you water just as well. but this one is unique in that it is bendable and comes with LED's to light the bubbles. I use it in my 10 gallon tank, and my only problem with it is that if you turn the air down power, the bubbles don't disperse evenly across the wand. If I keep the air at full blast, the bubbles look great and disperse perfectly, but it's a bit too powerful for my fish. The LED's are pretty nice, but I only turn them on once in a blue moon really. Overall, it was a good buy, but unless you can keep the bubbles at full blast it may not have the visual appeal you're looking for.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Aquarian Freshwater GH & KH Test Kit

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Aquarian Freshwater GH & KH Test KitI have been using this test kit for a while now and have never had and difficulty with it, other than me droping the glass vials and breaking them on the floor. It's pretty straight forward and easy to use. Good thing there are 2 vials!

Got this to monitor my 75G and it seems to work according to the instructions. I put in the drops until the water changes colors and thats the hardness. Kind of wish they would come up with a test with a set amount of drops and then you judge the hardness from there. With this test you add the drops until the water goes from one color to the next and then remember how many drops you put in. Use that number on the chart and that's your hardness. I don't know, it might just be me, but is kind of a pain to take the vial cap on and off in between each drop.

1. Put one drop in vial of water

2. Put cap on vial

3. Shake or flip vial to mix drop with water

4. Did color of water change from Blue to Yellow (KH) or Orange to Green (GH)

5. No, remove cap, and repeat steps 1-4.

6. Yes. How many drops did it take, compare with chart supplied in instructions.

That is basically what you do.

Please read the instructions first. It will make it easier when you are ready to test. Other then that it was easy to added the drops and read the colors.

KollerCraft TOM Aqua Pal Betta Kit with LED Lighting, Heart - 1-Gallon

KollerCraft TOM Aqua Pal Betta Kit with LED Lighting, Heart - 1-GallonThis performed admirably in conveying a betta fish between home and college, about a 2-1/2 hr trip by car with my wife holding the fish-in-Aqua Pal in her lap in the passenger seat, following my daughter's instructions to keep the jostling of the fish to a minimum. The little guy did look a little stressed by the episode, but recovered quickly when he arrived. This unit has a small access port in the top for food and air, a handle, a screw-on top, and an LED light. What more could you ask for? I would definitely recommend carrying it by its handle AND by its bottom to be doubly sure no disaster occurs. We used aquarium gravel instead of the included plastic "gems". The price is a little high for the apparent cost of the unit, but, it's just the thing for this task.

I purchased this for a betta fish, which was a gift for my cats. This model was perfect because the lid screws on, which eliminates any fear of my cats lifting the lid to get to the fish. There is a small hole at the top, so you don't have to unscrew the lid to feed the fish. The "aqua gems" cover the bottom, but I added some gravel for additional covering. Also, the aqua gems are light, and you lose some when changing the water, so some other covering will likely need to be added eventually. The one negative I found is that the light is basically useless. It illuminates nothing and the batteries die quickly. Other than that, I'm very satisfied. I did look at PetSmart for additional oxygen stones, but they don't sell them. Not sure if those are really necessary, though.

We keep our betta in this bowl when we go on vacation and when we need to clean out his other bowl. It is made out of lightweight plastic, so I wouldn't recommend it for a permanent home.
