Jardin Aquarium Plastic Artificial Plants Fish Tank Décor, 10-Piece, Orange

Jardin Aquarium Plastic Artificial Plants Fish Tank Décor, 10-Piece, OrangeThese are nice for a bit of color in a tank. Small and sit on gravel with out having to be pushed in.

I like cheap plants because I throw out plants when they get covered in algae instead of trying to clean them. It is nice to find cheap in in price but not cheap looking plants. I plan to order these again.

I've scoured plenty of stores in search of unique/fun flora for my daughters Bikini Bottom themed fishtank. I'm glad I went with these. First, the colors are awesome. Second, these are a good size and are weighted well. Finally, the price on this item made it a great value compared to what pet stores charge for artificial tank decor. We love it!!!

I bought these for my aquarium but they didn't stay long. They made the tank look really cheap and the colors seem odd. Don't waste the money.

TetraPond Skimmer

TetraPond SkimmerNot quite sure what all the fuss was all about on the stickers and labels from the other reviewer. Sure there are informative and descriptive stickers all over this skimmer but they came right off with a little patience. I didn't rip them off. I took my time and they came off cleanly and in one piece. There was a very little adhesive residue left over but a paper towel with some lighter fluid made quick work of it.

I teamed this skimmer up with a Tetra 1900 gph submersable pump. I have the skimmer set on top of an upside down bucket that I cut big holes in to make it a "cave" for the fish to swim through and hide in.

The only "problem" I've had in the month it's been installed is that a few of my very young shubunkins have been sucked into it. These little guys were born last October, just before I shut the pump down for the winter. I knew they wouldn't survive the winter cold so I put them in an aquarium over the winter months. We've had a very warm spring and I started the pond pump up mid March when I noticed my water was over 65 degrees. I decided to take the 12 new fish and put them in the pond and give them more room (than the aquarium). I check each morning to see if there are any of the little buggers in there and normally there are one or two. I was trying to figure a way to lessen the chance of them getting sucked in. I thought of splitting the intake for my pump to include maybe a separate underwater prefilter to take some of the suction away but then yesterday morning I noticed when I push down on the weir (from the inside when the top is tipped up) that the water "flow" into the skimmer seemed to be less intense. Actually slowing the turbulance down enough that it seemed a little fish could work his own way out. I ended up putting a small rock onto the wier to weigh it down. That seems to be doing the trick. Time will tell...I will still check each morning and write an update.

Anyway, for the money, this skimmer does a great job keeping the water surface much cleaner than it was without the skimmer. I used to have to overflow the pond when I would see any kind of clutter or debris on the surface I didn't like. This has been a great upgrade to my pond. It whisks away leaves, flower pedals, and any uneaten food to keep it from decaying and clouding the water. I've actually been opening it up later in the day and scooping out any food still floating in there and putting it back for a snack for my little buddies. If you want a skimmer to help keep your pond cleaner and clearer, don't hesitate buying this one. It's a real bargain. I hope I've helped balance the bad reviews on this thing. The stickers just need a little patience and this thing is plenty sturdy to do the job it's intended to do and do it well.

I've wanted a skimmer for a long time and this one is just 1/2 the price of the next cheapest one so I decided to give it a go.

The worst thing about Tetra products is that their website has minimal documentation compared to other brands such as Laguna which even has pdf's of the instruction manuals. So to find out if a Tetra product works for you, you'll have to search forums or consumer reviews for information.

The kit comes with 3 ft of 1.25" hose, coarse filter, internal filter basket and a 1.25" hose fitting that you can fit on either side of it. There are 3 large stickers on the skimmer, but you can peel them off pretty easily. You'll also need to buy a couple of hose clamps to make sure the hose attaches securely to the tube fittings, they could have been included in the kit, but it's not a big deal to buy them.

The outlet for this skimmer is 1.25" so you should find a pump that has a 1.25" inlet. I've attached it to a 2 filter arrangement that only accepts a 1" tube so I had to get a step down attachment that goes from 1.25" to 1" at the hardware store.

Placement: Placement is very important for this to work. You must place this skimmer so that it is horizontally level and the water level is about an inch from the top of the skimmer inlet (the inlet is 3 inches high so you've got a little room to play with). The skimmer floats and capsizes if there is not enough water in it (level of water too low) and sinks (if the water level is too high), so you have to secure it on some kind of level platform near the edge (to empty the basket and clean the filter). If your pond is very deep all around or if you don't have some kind of platform near the edge then you're out of luck, this skimmer will not float at the right height or stay put by itself. There are 4 small niches on the edges where you are supposed to put stones in to prevent the skimmer from floating off but the spaces are just too small to put enough stones in to do that.

I don't know how Tetra expects you to hold the skimmer in place as there are no flanges or attachment points built in. I have it temporarily secured right now with two rocks holding it down, but I plan to either drill a couple of holes in it to tie it down or wedge it securely in a rock setting. But once it is in place it works great. I can see the surface debris and detritus floating into the skimmer right away. For this price, this skimmer is a great deal, in fact I couldn't find anything close to this price. You just need to work at it a little bit to fit it into you pond. Highly recommended for those who don't mind doing a little extra work.

Update: I had to go to the hardware store to find step up and down adapters because the filters and the pump had different size hoses but I've found that Laguna sells hose fittings and adapters that make connections between different sized hoses a snap. Just follow the links below:

Laguna Y-Connector Supplied with 3 Click-Fit Connectors, 1-1/4-Inch

Laguna Multi Hose Adapter, 3/4 to 1-1/2-Inch

Another update:

This skimmer rocks. It not only sucks a lot of floating debris in but it also helps clean the pond water by catching the tiny algae which makes your water green. I have a couple of fish swim in (one idiot went in twice and you would have thought that he learned his lesson the first time) so I've elected to leave the top off so you can see inside it.

It has intakes on both left and right and comes with a plug so you can seal up the side you don't use. Theoretically, you can line up 2 of these skimmers in series so you can clean up the pond more efficiently, but I used the other intake to plug in another DIY filter to increase the filter surface area. Works great. I really love this skimmer and highly highly recommend it.

I was excited when I saw this skimmer. I have a small pond and it was the size I was looking for, and at a great price. It is a new product, however, and you can definitely tell that they have not fixed all the kinks. First, there are stickers all over it -on the lid, on the weir and at the base. There are even a few "Made in China" stickers. Since this product is supposed to be placed in the water, I figured it was a good idea to remove the stickers. Wrong! Only the one on the weir came off easily. The others were hard to remove and left a lot of glue. These are big stickers -the one on the lid covers almost the entire lid and the one at the base covers half the base. The only way to remove the glue is to use turpentine or something similar. However, the lid is made of cheap plastic that began to melt with the turpentine, causing my rag to turn black. Now I'm kinda nervous all of this is going to poison my pond water. Then, after I put it together, I realized two problems: 1. they had to bend the basket to make it fit and then, you have to place the basket just right and 2. the hose that connects the skimmer to the pump DOES NOT fit the fittings that are included in the package. I purchased the Tetra Pond pump recommended for the skimmer and the fitting screws onto it without a problem, but the hose is clearly too large for the barb on the fitting. It falls right off. Tetra Pond apparently figured out this at some point but their solution was to suggest that the hose be clamped with clamps that are "optional" and "not included". That's like saying the engine mounts in a car are "optional" and "not included". Basically, there is no way the skimmer and pump will work without the clamps or a hose that fits over the barb on the fitting so I'm going to purchase those now. I also noted that the skimmer does not come with straps like other skimmers so you have to lay something under it to get it to the right height. Basically, if you are handy and have free time, and want to save some money, this might work for you. But if you want it to work with the minimum of muss and fuss out of the box, try another small skimmer like Cal Pumps Small Pond Skimmer or PondMaster's Mini Pond Skimmer.

I have a 3 tier swan fountain in a 500 gallon pool. Have been fighting bug and debris contamination for a year. Pump pre filters help, but this baby solves the problem before it becomes a problem. Added this skimmer and the water now remains crystal clear. I love this skimmer. Had my wife and kids remove the stickers, so no problem there for me. Add rocks in the bottom to keep it from floating away.

This skimmer was very easy to install and I had it done very quickly. I like that I didn't have to cut the liner to install it and it was easy to adjust the height of the unit with flat rocks. The gravel in the corners keeps it from floating away. It really was covered with stickers but they came right off.

Como Realistic Aquarium Tank Purple Silicone Mini Sea Anemone Ornament

Como Realistic Aquarium Tank Purple Silicone Mini Sea Anemone OrnamentI was happy to receive this ornament. It is very soft and the soft purple color looks good in my aquarium. You cannot really see on the picture that the tips are white and this is a very nice touch, especially when the lights enhance it. I ordered another sea anemone in blue awhile back and it got pretty gross over a 4-month period. The color faded and it smelled bad and had slime in it. I took it out and will have to see how it cleans up. Note that this is a "mini". I would recommend it but will have to see if it gets gross after a few months. I'm not sure how long they are supposed to last. Right now, I am pleased with it and I like it alot.

Update:

My above-described ornament is beginning to fade out and no longer has the pretty purple color. Although it is still purple, it has become more washed out looking, almost like the purple is washing off and the color white is coming through. I clean it often so it does not have slime and my fish love swimming around it. Except for the color fading, it is still upright and flowing. I am wondering if the color will fade off eventually. If so, it would be very pretty in white so I am keeping it to see how the saga plays out, with the health of my fish being a priority.

thought it would be more....flowy? if that makes any sense...I mean it's alright I guess, not exactly what I expected, but my betta seems to love it and my wife and sister think its cute, It just feels too springy under the current of the filter.

edit:

WTF??!?! after a whole some really gross slimy nasty stuff starts coming off this thing. I dont know if it had any thing to do with the death of my pleco which would suck on this thing from time to time, but dude that stuff was nasty. Washed it off, put it back in the aquarium, so far its not come back but...damn...that was nasty

Not long ago I discovered my new female betta fish Annabelle had damaged her deliciate fins on an ornament in her tank. I immediately removed it so she couldn't hurt herself again. I came across this cute little mini sea anemone and decided to give it a try. I am glad I bought it. My Annabelle is enjoying swimming through the rubbery tentacles on the anemone. I don't have to worry about her fins being damaged any more. The anemone is small but so is my female betta fish. It is the right size for small fish like Annabelle.

Marina Air Pump

Marina 75 Air PumpJust got this air pump and set it up in my Fluval Edge. I wanted an air pump from a reputable manufacturer and (most importantly) that was quiet as can be. This air pump by Hagen fits the bill, especially on the quiet arena. My other aquarium is using a Tetra Whisper 10 air pump. I thought that was as silent as they come, that is until now. But hearing this Hagen Marina 75 in action, my Tetra Whisper is far from being a "whisper" and more like a lawnmower by relative comparison. Okay, I'm exaggerating a bit, but honestly, the Marina 75 is quiet and puts the Tetra Whisper to shame.

This Marina 75 air pump is quiet. Not silent, but very quiet. Quieter than all the rest, and I've tried all the brands. It puts out enough air for a small tank. After I got this one, I tried the 100, and it puts out a good deal more air and is very nearly as quiet as the 75--surprisingly so. So if you've got more than 20 gallons, go for the 100. Haven't tried the 200 yet, but I've got one on order.

UPDATE Aug 2012: All of these Marina air pumps get noisier over time. I've also broken the nipple on every single pump I've owned when I've tried to remove the air line. The 200 is not quiet from the start. Even so, I buy one every so often because they are cheap and most of them start out quiet. I get the 100 because I want the air. Originally I gave this product 5 stars. Now just 3.

The quality is just not here material wise, the plastic nipples broke off 1st one after about 3 weeks the second after 5. they are recessed and had flexible airline attached, almost impossible to put any stress on them.

My guess is heat and poor quality plastic.

When this product first arrived, its performance blew my mind. It was silent and explosive, and my plants seemed to be thriving.

When the Amazon box first arrived, I took out the air pump, connected the airline, plugged it in and let it run. That was the last time I touched it.

Two weeks later, the air pump was still going strong but my plants were all dead. The two black nozzles where the (2 foot) airline connected were barely hanging on: snapped under the routine pressure of running 24/7.

From a previous (horrible) experience with an Aqua Culture air pump, I was already cautious about poor quality air pumps, so I made sure I connected the airline only once. There was no constant tugging or pulling on the plastic nozzles: I connected an airline once the first time it was plugged in.

The pump's longevity simply isn't there.

I uploaded a picture of the broken pump after 2 weeks:

They can refund my money, but they can't refund my dead plants.

Aquatic Life Light T5 HO 2-Lamp Link Fresh Aquarium Light, 36-Inch

Aquatic Life Light T5 HO 2-Lamp Link Fresh Aquarium Light, 36-InchBought these from a different store and without the electronic timer built into the light. I have one of those power center strips with timers that automatically control the light periods so I didn't need timers on the lights for a freshwater tank. I have had these lights for almost two years. I have a 45 gallon planted tank with Fluval Stratum and CO2. These really put out a lot of light I have two lamps which means 4 x 39 watts over 45 gallons. I swapped out the light bulbs for Geisemann bulbs based on feedback from some planted tank online forums. The lights work well if I could have afforded it two years ago, I would have gone LED however. Couple of things to note the lights sit low over the top of the tank. You really cannot fit two banks of lights with a Marineland dual power wheel filter because the lights will hit the top of the filter. There is not much clearance between the top of the tank and the lights so if you're like me and stick your hands in the tank frequently to drop in vegetable foods, move around plants, trim plants, etc. you can barely get your hand under the lights and in the tank. Ditto for trying to fit a gravel suction cleaner in the tank. For those tasks, it's easier just to temporarily move the lights off the tank. Also, my glass cover on the tank is no longer able to flip upso I removed the hinge and now just lift off the glass section to feed the fish. The lights also get hot (even though they are fluorescent) so if you're sticking your hands in the tank, you will get close to the hot bulbs and you'll feel the heat. Not enough to burn your arm but it's still very warm. Like the look of the lights, performance has been excellent my plants grow like crazy (helps to have CO2). Been happy with these.

I have a 180 gallon tank that is 24" deep, and this light has just the right brightness for my plants to thrive, and to light up the tank properly for viewing. I have a glass top, so I just rest the light directly on the canopy, and I haven't had any issues with heat.

I've owned this item for a few months now and have absolutely no complaints at all. It fires up quickly, lights the tank well and has more than doubled the plant growth in my tank. I wasn't sure if I'd like the roseate bulb, but I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure if I'll replace it with another roseate when it dies yet, but so far I can say that I notice a difference in the coloring of the fish from the bulb. Much brighter reds/oranges. I cannot rate its impact on plant growth, however, as this is my first planted tank and therefore I have no experience with other bulbs.

Item was shipped far better than expected it was VERY well wrapped and VERY well protected. Pretty sure I could have thrown the box down the stairs three or four times without any issues.

A great item from a great seller, buy with confidence!

Finally upgraded and bought my second light fixture. The main reason for me buying this brand is because of the ability to link up to three fixtures. Linking the two fixtures wasn't that easy though. It was very hard to line up the screws took me a hr to get things up and rolling. Other than that they work perfectly. They do not get hot and the bulbs that come with them is bright and grows my plants beautifully. I have them set up on timers the front two bulbs are on for three hrs. Then all four bulbs are on for two hrs and the front two bulbs are on for three.

Love this light, but they didn't include instructions with it to explain how to put the brackets on. Let me help you with that...first you must remove the side panel (unscrew several small screws) and a small metal bar (remove screws) that is immediately within it, then slide the legs on into the grove and screw those parts back on. Also, once the end cap is off, you can remove the plexiglass and must remove a thin sheet of protective plastic wrap from both sides. Other than that, this product is really nice. I'm using it for a freshwater planted tank, without issues...

Aquatop D2HT-200 Aquarium Heater Digital Dual Display, 200-Watt

Aquatop D2HT-200 Aquarium Heater Digital Dual Display, 200-WattI purchased this heater in August of this year. I got home this evening to find the fish in our 55g aquarium acting sluggish. A peak at the thermometer shows 68 degrees F (normal temp is 79). The lights were all off on this heater. I checked to be certain it was plugged in. It was. I tried a different outlet and it came on for about 2 seconds and went back off.

I took it to the sink where I submersed it again, and then plugged it up. It came on and began heating. I let it go for about 10 minutes and it was still working. I just put it back in my aquarium and it appears to be working again. But gee what if I had not looked closely at the tank? I'm about to head out of town and don't think I can trust this thing. Arrrgghh.

My fish had a case of ick so i needed to raise my water temp to 82.My other heater wouldnt heat past 77.Ordered this heater and put it in and in 3 hrs i had 82 degree water.I am going to replace my other aquarium heaters with these in case i need to raise water temp on those some day.Yes they do vary in temp a couple degrees but that is not near enough difference to harm the fish i keep.

Good concept if heat worked more than 6 months. Bought 3 200 watt and 8 100 watt heaters all failed after 6 months of use. Breed Angels and can not depend on them. Start to flash 90 deg-water temp is really 68 will not reset even if unplugged and plugged back in. Sent 8 back to aqua-top still waiting to here back. Stick with old school ones. Had to replace all aqua-tops!!!!

Programming the temperature on here was a snap, and considering that the tank sits right next to the door that we let the dog in and out from, and we're getting into the cold part of the midwest winter the fact that the temp never deviates from that 81 degrees has made keeping the aquarium a snap. Love it.

I had mine for just under a year. I love the looks of this heater. The dual LED displays are great, and it has worked flawlessly up to today. I noticed condensation on the interior glass over the past few months. Today the heater shuts off (fuse?) after running a couple hours. I reset it by unplugging it and plugging it back in. Again a couple hours and it shuts off. It seems these heaters have some quality control issues. Shame because there is no other heater on the market that looks as cool.

Aqua Ultraviolet Advantage 2000+ Transformer, Black, 15 Watt

Aqua Ultraviolet Advantage 2000+ Transformer, Black, 15 WattI had the lower-power version of this sterilizer ("Advantage 2000"; a 7w unit) for several years before the bulb finally died. My local aquarium store mistakenly sold me the higher power Advantage 2000+ 15w bulb. A call to Aqua indicated that I could not reliably run the 15w bulb from the 7w transformer (I supposed as much), so I ordered the 15w transformer to match the new bulb and it works just great. I have a 150 gal aquarium and although the 7w bulb did keep the algae at bay, I figured the 15watter should do a little better; it certainly took me from opaque green to crystal clear water in about a week.

Midwest Tropical Rectangle Aqua 30 Gallon Tower Aquarium

Midwest Tropical Rectangle Aqua 30 Gallon Tower AquariumI have one of these in my entry way. It is tall really tall my children love to set on the floor and look into the tank. Unit comes with plenty of substrate. The lighting is a little small a single bulb it workes but no way your growing a plant. The supplied hang on filter in my opinion is ok for a wile but I'd buy a better one. Under gravel filter with lift tube well it does the best it can. U need a heater 150w workes fine. The PROBLEM with this tank is there is no way to reach the bottom. I purchased a extra long reptile grabber so I can move/remove the decor. And using a gravel vac is tricky to say least I use a long piece of small pvc pipe with the hose attached to it there is no easy way to clean the bottom of the tank. Over all its a great looking tank and is impressive it look at bit hard to clean but o well.

Aquatic Fundamentals 50/65 Upright Gallon Aquarium Stand

Aquatic Fundamentals 50/65 Upright Gallon Aquarium StandIt's holding a water filled 50gal tank with plants, three ornaments, 50lbs gravel, and filter. No wobble, and looks really beautiful. The assembly was fairly easy. The parts were labled, and the instruction sheet was easy enough for me to follow. I was dissapointed that there wasn't a shelf in the unit, or a back board, which I think would have enhanced the structural integrity. I am still pleased with the unit and would recommend it to anyone looking for a large tank stand.

I was very pleased with this tank stand. It is very high quality and subdued (allowing for the beauty of the tank).

I would buy another in a heartbeat.

A word of warning! It was not easy to assemble. For someone who has not put together furniture before, the directions were rather baffling. Once I sat down and slowly figured it out, it made perfect sensebut it did take a great deal of effort on my part. If you are not good at assembly, beware!

There was a knock at the door and a package arrived. I opened the box to find another box plainly packaged. I opened that box only to find individual components neatly wrapped in protective foam wrapping. Holy smokes these pieces are heavy, coated and sealed ,not cheap particle board with laminate. These parts have a semi gloss black finish and seem to restst any scratching. I lay the parts out just to find a pair of hinges and a magnet, 24 studs and cam locks and that was about it. Reading the instructions it showed that all you have to do is screw the studs in then install in desired location, insert cam lock and move on to the next piece. The final part of the assembly was the door. Install the 2 hinge pieces and the magnetic lock, install the door with minor adjustment. The lock mechanisim is real nice, you push the door in to lock/unlock. The whole thing took about 35 minutes to assemble. The bottom is flat and coated on both sides like the top. Another thing that I liked was the fact that this stand needed no leveling and the door worked fine. Being that there were no markings on the box and on the instructions so it is safe to assume that this was a nicely crafted piece of furnature made here in the US which is rare today. Being that the stand is sealed it seems that it will not suffer form water damage, salt problably wont damage it either. I am using this stand for a reptile cage but I do not doubt that it will hold the weight of a fishtank. The compartment on the bottom has more than enough room to accomidate a filter with some room to access for servicing. Great stand, great quality, one of the easiest pieces of furnature to assemble at a great cost. What could be better? I just wish I found this stand for my other reptile cages, I could have bought 2 of these for the price of 1 of my crappy made in china ones.

Want Aquatic Fundamentals 50/65 Upright Gallon Aquarium Stand Discount?

I bought a 40g breeder tank and needed a stand for it since none of my furniture could support that much weight. I came across this stand and it is perfect. Do not be swayed by the reviews that say it is difficult to put together..it is EASY. I laid out all the pieces and parts, read the directions...read them again....and it went together seamlessly. The only issue I had was putting on the top. I am a petite gal and it was too heavy for me to lift, balance and try to get it lined up with the holes, so I enlisted my neighbor to come and help. Took 2 seconds and wahlah...done! Very beautiful stand. The 50/65 size fits a 40g breeder (36x18) tank perfectly. Having the back open doesn't bother me in the least, I don't know why people want it closed off. Having it open makes it super easy to access if you have a canister filter, sump..etc. Plus easy access to my surge protector where my filters, lights and air pump are plugged into. I do agree that a shelf would be nice, but I would imagine the added weight of supplies you put on a shelf would compromise the integrity of the stand. Anyway, this stand is nice and where I purchased it, it was a great deal.

Exotic Environments Hollow Log Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Hollow Log Aquarium OrnamentI needed a decoration of sorts that would big enough to allow my 20" pleco room to swim through. I've tried all sorts logs for aquariums and even terrariums. The description says X-Large and sure enough, not nearly big enough. I had a temporary solution, but needed a final home. I bought this one thinking it could very well be one more miss. I was wrong. Completely big enough for the pleco to swim through, and still be able to peek though the side hole. I can't say enough. Highly recommended.

Great home for my 12" albino pleco! Just moved up to a 55 gallon tank from a 20 gallon in order to give my pleco and a couple of his buddies more room to move around. This is just the ticket. I shopped several local pet supply stores and just couldn't find something big enough with an "airplane hanger" style shape that my fish could glide in and out of easily. Amazon.com to the rescue! This log has some nice, realistic detail and color and I really like the large hole in the side and top of the log, too. I was a little worried that it would look too big in my tank (even knowing the measurements in advance, I was surprised at the size when I opened the package!), but it is a perfect fit in my 23"x26"x25" bowfront cube. Couldn't be happier with my pleco's new house and my red fin shark is grooving on it, too.
