Python Aquarium Replacement Pump

Python Aquarium Replacement PumpI've been using the same Python no-spill and fill unit for almost 30 years. The original pump finally broke and I replaced it. Not a bad record for things milled from plastic. There is no comparison between the work of changing the water in a 75-gallon tank using the Python versus using a garden hose and buckets. From 10 gallons to 100 gallons plus, a Python no-spill and fill is the ONLY sane way to do a water change.

I had one like this, but it was manufactured by Lee's. It broke due to me misplacing it and putting weight on it. I read some reviews of this python pump and decided to buy it. The plastic is very cheap-feeling. I tried to screw it on my adapter, the one which changes faucet threads to hose threads, and the threads started to strip on the pump. I checked everything and it still did the same thing. Took off the python and hooked up the threaded part of the Lee's to the adaapter and it had no problems. After 1 use, the python threads looked worse than the years of use I got from the Lee's. This one is not going to last, but I will use it till it's exhausted it's life cycle. Stay away from this garbage and get a Lee's pump valve.

Edit:

6/23/2013

After having this for less than a year and only using it 3 times at the most, this thing broke. After the last time I used it, it was sitting in my cleaning kit bucket. I found it this morning and the part that connects to the faucet was broken because it split. There was nothing in there besides the hose, so nothing could have broken it.

This stuff is garbage and I think what I will do is make my own out of PVC or copper piping from homedepot.

Replacement for broke one. This one also squirts by the neck. Always disconnect hose before moving the hose, so it doesn't wiggle the pump, and break it. FINGER TIGHT ONLY!!! or you will wear down the cheap, plastic screw grooves.

The valve that had come with my Python broke, so I needed a replacement. This is the same as the original part, and works great.

Want Python Aquarium Replacement Pump Discount?

This works well and is a replacement for the orginal Python pump. Design appears unchanged. The fitting of the siphon unit into the pump remains the same and is the weakness in the design. This joint can come loose and the pump fails to work. Over tightening of the joint causes failure in the siphon and required replacement. Be gentle in tighening the siphon into the pump or you will have to replace it like we did. In other words, be gentle with it.

Glofish Plastic Plants Large Galactic Purple, Moneywort

Glofish Plastic Plants Large Galactic Purple, MoneywortI have a GloFish tank and bought this because the color seemed vibrant. Well...once in the tank under the LED lights this purple is completely flat. Only the green plastic plants light up and the blue is OK, but the purple, red and orange are dull.

I purchased this plant for my 20 gallon aquarium that I have stocked with Glofish and lit with Blue LED Lighting. The plant is pretty but the color purple changes to medium blue (slightly dull) under the blue led lights. I understood from the description, "Glofish Plastic Plants/Purple" that I would have a purple colored plant that stood out a bit under blue lighting. Not so much.

I bought a glofish plant, colorful, yes, glows with the light that you use for glofish, NO! Stick with the walmart/ marina brand they glow with the lights. ALSO, overpriced here on amazon, and I thought my local pet store was expensive!

Designs by Nature 3 D Aquarium Background BJ36A-P2 30.5' x 21.75' x 1.75' plus bambooThe product looks just like the images. I received mine with a crack but it was packed carefully so I'm not sure what happened. The crack didn't matter since I have a 36 gallon bowfront which has a divider on the top. I had to split the background in the middle along the crack so it was good that the crack was there. Nothing a little marine silicone can't fix. The foam is black and will make a fine powder mess if you decide to cut. Have vacuum ready if you cut. The fish are at peace due to the natural surroundings. Great product.

AquaClear Power Filter (UL Listed)

AquaClear 20 Power Filter - 110 V, UL ListedUnlike other filters that force you to spend money on new filters pads every two weeks, spending a lot on money you didn't think you would have to, this filter does not require replacement filter pads. Instead, it has a block of foam that is used to trap the dirt in the water. Every two weeks, simple clean the foam in water by squeezing it a few times! Just do it in your water changing bucket with de-chlorinated water.

You can change the carbon filter whenever you choose to. In fact, it is not needed all that much. I have run my tanks without carbon for a month at a time, no big deal. If the water starts to look yellow or brown, it is time to change it and put in some fresh carbon.

There is so much to say about this filter, it's hard to know where to start.

I bought this filter to replace a very ineffective Marineland Pengiun HOB filter. I have a 20 gallon tank, but have a heavy bioload due to a dozen or so fish being born in our tank (thank you Petsmart). The issues we ran into with the Penguin filter were many (see my review), so I looked for a more powerful and configurable filter. The Aquaclear 70 fit the bill.

The housing has plastic walls that I think are a bit thin. I feel the need to be very careful with it when I take it apart and put it back together. That's about the only critical thing I have to say about this filter. It has a dial on the back to help keep the filter level. The impeller and motor can be easily replaced with a simple twist.

You get two intakes with this unit, so you can have it at mid-level, or extend it to get closer to the bottom. The intake swivels a bit, which causes a reduction in the water intake. This is a very useful feature, as it recycles some of the water already in the filter to mix with the water from the intake to give you extra clean water, just at a slower rate. This also comes in handy when you want to reduce the water disturbance for feeding.

The filter media included with the unit is exceptional. You get a filter sponge that catches the debris, a carbon "sock" to catch the very fine particles and chemicals, and "bio max" which is just a media to keep beneficial bacteria. The sponge can be rinsed and reused to your heart's content. It's very sturdy and seems to be effective. The carbon "sock" is huge! Although there is some debate among aquarists if you need continual carbon filtration or not, you certainly can get a lot of chemical filtration should you so desire. The last media, "Bio Max", is rough surfaced cylinders meant to capture bacteria to help keep your tank clean. This is very helpful since, if you were to replace your sponge and carbon, the beneficial bacteria would still reside in the "Bio Max".

Now the true beauty isn't with what you get (which, again, is great), it's what you can CHOOSE to do. The filter housing is very simple, and you can put in most any filter media you want. You can cut filter fabric to size, remove the carbon and add another sponge, or use a different biological filtration method. This, I feel, is key to running a clean tank. If I were to treat the tank with a chemical, I can simply remove the carbon and leave the other filter media in place. This wasn't possible with the Penguin and wound up being a serious problem.

Another great aspect of the filter media is the price. Seeing as how you don't need to replace the sponge or biological media, you just have to replace the carbon "sock". With that, you can buy a replacement for this specific model filter, or you can create your own by buying a filter sock and carton of activated carbon.

We've been running the filter for months without issue... Ok, somehow our Otocinclus got into the filter. Luckily, I found him and got him back into the tank. He must have been watching when we had Finding Nemo on the TV. Maybe an intake with thinner grates would be something to explore.

One thing I would caution against is Hagen's return procedure. I had picked up one of these from Petsmart and it was defective (I'm almost certain it was used and Petsmart put it back on the shelves). Hagen said that if I want to return it to them, I would have to pay for all of the shipping. Luckily, Petsmart exchanged it without issue.

I highly suggest this filter and hope it will work out as well for you as it has for me.

Buy AquaClear Power Filter (UL Listed) Now

I bought my AquaClear 30 in early July. It was definitely quieter than the previous filter and seemed to do a better job keeping the tank clear. I've had it long enough to have cleaned it and, as filter cleaning goes, I find this design very user friendly. Then, yesterday, we had a power bounce and the filter didn't come back. After eliminating the outlet as a problem, I noticed the bottom of the unit was very warm. I unplugged it, let it cool, plugged it back in. Nothing. Today, I went to my nearest PetCo for a new filter. The filter is under warranty but I needed something for the fish today. Upon learning which filter I had, then gentleman helping me said that these filters almost never die and his is about 14 years old. He showed me how to remove the propeller box and clean it out. He told me that sometimes debris settles during a power failure and the propeller can't turn when the power comes back. He was right. I got home, took 2 minutes to clean the propeller, and we're back in business. No need for a new filter after all! I'm feeling really good about my choice of filter. Easy to maintain (once you know what you're doing) and works well!

Hi..if you are reading this and looking for a new or replacement filter, AquaClears are great. My 70 (300) is extremely quiet and my aquarium is crystal clear. Even though the filter comes with sponge, carbon and BioMax, you can set it up which ever way you want. The sponges can be washed in aquarium water to save a few dollars and maintain your biological filter. Cleans easily. The old number represented the gallons per hour. The new number represents the maximum size aquarium. Good luck.

The Aquaclear power filters are the best in the market. These filters provide a HUGE surface area for an efficient biological treatment of the aquarium water. I own four of these filters and have been running continuously for more than three years! They are extremely quiet. I have experienced only two problems with these filters. First, the filters drain into the aquarium during power outages and will not restart on their own. Second, if not cleaned frequently the foam blocks will be pushed upwards and displace the cover. Overall, these are great filters and I would not replace them for another power filter.

Finnex Ray2 Aquarium LED Daylight

Finnex Ray2 Aquarium LED Daylight, 48-InchBought this light for my son's deep 25 gallon tank after looking at inferior and overpriced units available at my local chain pet stores & online. It was a replacement for the dim florescent tube light that came with the tank. What a difference!!! The tank is so bright it actually looks like natural sunlight (it will actually cause you to see spots for a few minutes if you look at it straight on when lit). We have been using the light daily for about 3 months now and it is still working flawlessly. The light is bright enough to support the growth of a few Amazon swords, onion plants, and a couple of unnamed tubers. The light fixture is small, solid, and sleek looking-it is a definite improvement over the old black plastic box that was there before. I purposely waited some time to see if this light would hold-up before writing a product review to be sure I was not recommending another disappointing aquarium light system. After a few months of daily, sustained use I am pleased to report it has there are no still no problems with the light. All the LEDs are still functioning and there has been no issues with the light's performance whatsoever thus far. The only word of caution I would offer is that be very careful with the light duration. We started the light on a 12 hour daily cycle from the start and there was significant green algae growth problems on all surfaces of the tank, gravel, plants, and lid. We finally got the algae under control and are currently running it for 7-8 hour daily cycles without algae growth. If you are looking to add some punch to your tank without spending some major cash upgrade your lighting with this light.

I chose this to replace my large and unsightly fluorescent fixture (dual T5HO) based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews I had read on the internet and my own experience with the Fugeray on another tank. The Ray2 doesn't disappoint! Super slim, super bright, and has the look and feel of a much more expensive unit. Finnex knows how to get it right. Plus, they provide PAR data for their lights so the buyer can make sure the light will be appropriate for each particular aquarium setup. I am now using this on a 10 gallon that is 20" wide, so there is some goofy looking protrusion from each side, but the adjustable legs make it work.

Recommended for anyone looking for high light in a slim platform. Do your research to make sure high light intensity will work in your tank, and if so, you will be pleased with the Ray2.

Buy Finnex Ray2 Aquarium LED Daylight Now

There aren't many aquarium lights that are this inexpensive, that actually work as well as this one does. I love the thin, low profile look of it, and the light output of the 7k/7k daylight model is great for my planted tank. In the 2 weeks I've had the light, my plants have responded by growing taller, and bushier, than they ever were before. My fish also look much more vibrant, and colorful than they ever did with my previous light.

My ONLY gripe about it, is that the power cord is too short. I had to use an extension cord with it in order to plug it in. The cord needs to be about twice as long. I'm still giving it 5 stars though, because the price to performance value is incredible!

This review is for the 48" Ray2 Daylight. I have only had it in use for less than 24 hours, but will give my initial impressions.

This product is made in China and is noticeable from the packaging (plain brown box) to the vague instruction sheet and very limited warranty.

The light itself is very compact and seems to have an average build. The supplied legs do not fit on a 1" tank frame, this was not an issue in my situation, since due to the light intensity I immediately knew that I had to raise it from the tank, I have a canopy and with this fixture being very lightweight, 3 zip ties easily mounted it about 4 inches from the water surface.

I purchased this light while planning to set up a standard 90 gallon tank, I truly expected to have to add supplemental lighting to reach the low light range for some of the plants I was planning on keeping, to my surprise this light far exceeded what I had expected, it is definately beyond the low light range even with a 24" depth, to the point where I will need to either diffuse the light or add co2 and ferts to keep the algae at bay. I do have a good bit of experience with planted tanks, HO lighting and injected c02, but unfortunately I just dont have much knowledge of par ratings which would help myself or others interested in this light to determine where this will put their tank. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and am fully confident that I will be able to grow more than the orginal plants I had expected to grow.

I will do an update in a month or so after after I see how plants respond and if there are any algae issues. Hope this helps!

Update:

After about 2 months of use, I love this light. My original impression was it may have been too much light but so far I have no algae issues and am not dosing any ferts. All plants are responding well, current plants are anubius, java fern, crypts, val, wysteria, red ludwigia and tiger lotus. I did have a brief power outage about a week after set up and when the power came back on only half the strip was lit, I feared what some other reviewers had mentioned, but after turning the power switch off and back on all lights were on. Another plus, I have almost no increase to my electric bill!

Want Finnex Ray2 Aquarium LED Daylight Discount?

I absolutely love this light! Would have preferred to get the double bright version, but this works well enough.

Gives me moderate/high light in my 28 gallon bowfront, haven't noticed any of my plants pearling yet, but I have noticed an immense growth rate change since changing over to this from a single tube aqueon t8.

Attaches to the rim of the tank nicely though the screws seem somewhat of a cheap quality, it holds steady and is high enough off the tank to avoid splashing from the filter and fish occasionally jumping.

It has come highly recommended to me from many people on fish forums, and now I'm highly recommending it to everyone else!

SpongeBob SquarePants® 3" Aerating ° Bubbles ° Aquarium Ornaments

Penn-Plax Spongebob Aerating Ornament for AquariumIt's the ornament in the picture with a tube glued to the back. Would have been nice to see that before buying it. I mean I didn't expect much out of it because it was pretty inexpensive, but at least a diffuser or something would have been nice. I tried it out for the heck of it and didn't even bother keeping in in there past one day.

The neighbor kids wanted to set up a new salt water with spongebob theme--this particular piece did not work from the start so we just have it as ornamental rather than aerator.

Polybio Poly Filter Pad 4 X 8" 3/pack

Polybio Poly Filter Pad 4 X 8' 3/packI had used many different products to try and solve our nitrate problem, but the polyfilter was the only one to work to lower the level. My tank had also had low, but nagging, ammonia and nitrite readings that lowered to 0 when I put in the polyfilter. I used the product in my Fluval 350 canister filter, slipped down on the outside of the large foam inserts. I took out my used up filter and the nitrate level elevated again. I am glad to find that Amazon has a three pack, since my local fish store only carries packs of single filters and can't keep them in stock. The only downside of this product is that it states that it can be recharged, but when I tried recharging per directions but it was no longer effective in removing the nitrates, etc.

This is a must to clear the water of any medications used recentally or at least once a year to make sure to pickup anything the skimmer can't or whatever else you use. There is no substitute for this product anywhere. Truly a perfect filter that never takes out minerals or any needs life just phosphates and protiens, amonia etc. that you want to remove. IT lasts a while with color changing properties to aid in evaluating when it is full. Never leaches back into the water ever!

A++++++++++

Keeping coral is no easy task, and if something leaches into the system it could take weeks to months for everything to recover. I have a very good filtration setup, but I also keep these Poly Filter pads, as insurance. They work great and change color depending on what it absorbs.

This product is pricey, if compared to the standard activated carbon. However, not only does it outperform activated carbon as a chemical filter, but adds the benefits of physical and biological filtration. In power and canister filters, polyfilter elevates performance by orders of magnitude.

Penn Plax Baby Hide-Out Breading Grass for Aquarium

Penn Plax Baby Hide-Out Breading Grass for AquariumI have these for all three of my tanks. You can place them in the grass or turn them upside down and they float on the top of the water.

I have mine floating. Not only do my fish babies find their way into them for protection but it gives cover to the rest of the fish in the tank. When they float and babies are in them, it is easier to catch the babies and/or feed them. I have a tank just for babies so I love how easy it is to put my net under the floating grass and lift the grass to get the babies quickly.

It works ok, except apparently I have a very good hunter in my betta......he has managed to eat all of my babies anyway, it would probably work much better if I took him out of the tank.

Needless to say, I need lots of hiding options/nooks/crannies for my fish to feel safe and be entertained (they love darting in/out of places). I actually have 1 of these on each side of the tank in the back corner tied off so as not to float all over the tank AND I have them upside down. My betta LOVES swimming either just below OR actually thru these if I remove, he swims around looking for them. :)

Petco Large Tree Log Aquatic Decor

Petco Large Tree Log Aquatic DecorI'm happy with the look of this item -it's sufficiently realistic for my tastes. However, I was alarmed by the number of sharp edges and spike-like casting spurs. All of the openings had edges sharp enough, I believe, to injure fish. I therefore felt obliged to use a Dremel tool to grind out the sharp edges and spurs (inside the decoration), before installing it.

The light is bright without being glaring, and the front opens easily for feeding and cleaning. The back portions can be snapped off to allow for your filters and heaters, and there are two small holes that can be used to feed your airline tubing through.
