The aqua clear insert activated carbon worked for my Aqua Clear 50. I like the longer change intervals on these bags. Its less work for me.

Years ago I used to use Aqua Clear filters & media and when I got back into having a aquarium, I tried something else. Big mistake. After three different types of over the tank filters, I realized there is only one filter I can trust to keep my tank crystal clear and is super easy to maintain. one thing to keep in mind is that you will need to rinse this at least a few times (i rinse like 6x) as there is a lot of carbon dust initially. other than that, still loving my aquaclear 50, easy to use, don't have to switch out all the parts each cleaning and water change, can't complain. was recommended by my local fish guy and i agree, the best filter for the $.

I ordered two of this "hinges" from this seller (Ozbo) but instead, I got two brown metal profiles for a 3/16" glass with a velvet trim. I live in Costa Rica and it is very difficult to me (and expensive) to return these metal profiles back to USA.

Not worth the money I paid for it, maybe $1-$2 at the most. Tape strips off the metallic coating and you are left with an ugly, transparent film that you don't want anywhere near your aquarium.

Lifegard Aquatics ARP440015 Pond Tube Thermometer for Aquarium

This is a well made thermometer and compared to my other thermometers seemed to read 2 degree higher, but I have not had a chance to determine which is the most accurate. Since 2 degrees high is safer than 2 degrees low in the Texas heat, I have not worried about that too much.

I recently had a smaller cheap floating thermometer that I liked fail due to the temperature scale coming loose and moving around inside the thermometer. Since this could have caused some serious problems eventually if the shift was not obvious, I decided to praise this thermometer for its rugged construction and reliability.

I am still comparing, but not found a better made pond thermometer in this price range.

The thermometer works great for our pond. I also plan to take it kayaking in the early and late seasons. It seems pretty durable.

First off, I was very impressed with the size and weight of the unit, it's hefty and appears to be very well made. 4 air stones in a 5 gallon bucket turns water into a heavy rolling boil, anymore that 4 gallons in a 5gallon bucket will spill over the edge. The output dial works very well and the pump is barely noticeable on any setting outside of full blast. If you're looking for an air pump to brew compost tea, gas off chlorine, or mixing nutes, buy this one, you'll not be disappointed.

This pump provides some pretty impressive air pressure. I have four aquariums. I was using two double outlet pumps. They didn't even come close to the bubble power of this pump. I highly recommend this item.

Excellent air pump for that price. I used it in my Koi pond of 2500 gals. and works great. I am using all 4 ports, but you can also extend for more difussers.

Over the past 40 years there are few air pumps I haven't tried. I tend to rely on on Luftair and Rena but decided to give these a shot.

Th pumps are huge with great width to them making them a problem for those with limited space. At first the air flow was excellent but it became significantly weaker in a very short period of time. Hydrofarm claims 15 LPM (Litre per minute) but I can assure you this isn't the case. This would mean it out performes the $89 Rena 400 in LPM. I run six of these in deep water tanks and trust me they can't and they don't. 7-9 LPM's would be more appropriate and honest a claim.

The pumps are quiet enough but I suspect as time marches on the noise will increase as is the nature of all air pumps. The way to keep the noise in check and the output at optimum perfomance is to change the air filters every few months. When vibration seems to much the bladder and or baffles need replacing which brings your pumps, regardless of brand back to optimum perfomance levels.

I wish the company included T stops and block offs or the basic minimal add ons most every other air pump is sold with but they don't it's as bare bones as you can get.For large and or deep water tanks these wouldn't be my second let alone my first choice, they'll burn out as would any competitive pump at this level.

But for standard tanks up to 75 gallons and shallow show tanks up to 125 these should do just fine. Because these are new and haven't been running long I can't write about longevity and reliabilty issues but my initial feeling is they will do as well as most any brand and model in their league and at this price point.

Marineland Penguin Power Head

I purchased this to replaced an approx. 6 yr. old Penguin 660.

I was so pleased with the old powerhead I wanted to replace with same.

I was glad to see the model 660 was still available. The reliability and flexability would be hard to beat, especially at the price. They withstand being cloged, power outage, and being run "dry" during partial water chages. Definately a solid performer. Having tended over 60 aquiriums (salt and fresh)in the past at a local pet store and the personal use at home gives me a good idea of what works and what doesn't. This thing runs like a champ! Functional, flexable, tough and inexpensive.

I've used this pump now for about a year and it still works perfectly. Water circulation is outstanding. Only gripe I would have is that they need to be primed after every water change. For some reason, they hold the air inside the pump preventing water from flowing. Simple remedy is to just turn the unit upside down in the water for a few seconds to let the air out, once the water starts flowing again, just reinsert it back into the filter tube. Works perfect after that.

These have been used successfully as markers for various board games, with no issue. However, you really want to look over them carefully if not using them decoratively--one or two were broken and could have cut fingers had we not removed them. Still, this really shouldn't deter anyone from getting these lovely glass beads.

These are pretty and they work well for the aquarium. I have beta fish, and they seem to do better with these smooth gem stones rather than normal aquarium rocks. There were one or two incorrectly colored rocks upon arrival, but I didn't care.

biOrb 12 Volt Intelligent Light

I have the 16 gallon biOrb and wanted to get this light to pamper my fish. I looked around online and these sell for around $125 on most sites (excluding tax and/or shipping)!

The light itself is much thinner than the included light and has a number or programmable options...I sometimes use it as a simple reminder to go to bed myself when I see the lights dim =)

We purchased a biOrb at the start of the year, and simply enjoy the heck out of it. One of the minor issues I had on was the standard light that comes with kit had to be manually turned off and on each morning and night. We also didn't like to leave the light on when we left the house, as it got quite hot, the new LED light takes away the need to do all of this. The fish appear to be quite happy and the different LED's throughout the cycle seem to work well. (no negative impact on the fish).

Although a tad expensive I would recommend this as an upgrade to your biOrb in a heartbeat.

The unit is very slim and is a much better light than the standard bulky halogen which takes up space inside the tank. Surprisingly very bright and clear!

The sunrise/sunset feature is a little silly though. Biorb claims that it's like a natural sunrise/sunset for the fish but it's not really that gradual of a process. In the morning it goes from one blue moonlight bulb to all three of the white daylight LEDs lighting up at once, although they are slightly dimmed when they light up. I doubt fish will really think that it's a real sunrise.

I was also expecting that there would be some lighting color to this unit--natural yellows and oranges for sunrises/sunsets and gradual gradients throughout the day to stimulate the true natural sun cycle. But I guess that is a little too much to ask for in a fish tank light.

I ordered this light as my existing one stopped working. Its definitely a step up from the "Standard" light as it is much brighter. It actually leaves "Glitter Lines" on the floor, its that bright. It might even make a good "Reef light" due to this fact but I am uncertain if the light spectrum is strong enough for some corals. You are able to program the unit so that you can "custom" the amount of daylight with nite / moon light. The transformer is not included. I only gave it 4 stars as I thought it was overpriced.

As someone mentioned earlier, this will fit into the opening for the 4 gal. (Baby) BiOrb it just won't fit the top lid ring. The light is really a lot better than the standard bulb and while it's expensive, I feel it was worth it. I'm using this on the Baby BiOrb and the tank looks fine without the top ring; but I'm going to take the other reviewer's suggestion and use a Dremel tool and widen the hole to make it fit into the plastic ring shouldn't be a big deal. If you have a Baby BiOrb, I'd recommend getting the light.

Jardin Aquarium Fish Tank Battery Powered Portable Air Pump

Kept my fish alive during Superstorm Sandy. We had no power for over a week, and this little thing kept bubbling away. We ran it 24 hours a day and it only needed one battery change mid-way. We have a 20 gallon with about 11 fish. It runs fairly quiet compared to a previous pump that I had.

It came with air line tubing and an air stone in case you need one. Nice to have that bonus.

The plastic case isn't the highest quality I have ever seen in a product, but the batteries fit in, the case closed and the pump worked, so hard to complain for less than $10.00!

No complaints about this product, and not much to add to my title. I had to drive from Northwest Indiana to Kissimmee Florida (a good 17 hour drive, NOT including the periodic rest stops and gas stations) and this was one of 3 pumps I had going for my 3 containers of fish. As I said, this thing kept trucking along the entire trip, even well after we arrived to our destination. I'm not sure how much longer it would have lasted, but all I know is, it was STILL going when I decided to just put new batteries in while I kept the fish in their bins while I caught some zzz's.

I didn't know what to expect when I bought this unit. I wanted it for a portable live bait pail. It works, but it's noisy and I'm not sure how it's going to hold up over time. The plastic is kind of thin and the battery contacts are as low quality as they could be made and still work.

Easy Life USPR 0500 ProFito Plant Fertilizer

I am very pleased with this product. It provides everything my plants need to look amazing.The plants are doing very well with the reds and pinks intensifying daily.

This is a terrific freshwater aquatic plant fertilizer. I found it on a small niche website and was happy to be able to order it via Amazon.

This is a comparable product to Seachem Flourish. I've used both. I lean a little bit toward favoring this over the Flourish, but I've never done a test between the two fertilizers.

One thing I do know: the anacharis I grow has TAKEN OFF since I started using this. I also grow Amazon sword plants, which are doing very well (they are sending up flower spikes and actually blooming), but they still need additional potassium and quite a lot of it, to keep from getting holes in the leaves. I am also growing sagittaria subdulata, which is doing very well, but not growing like a weed, rotala indica, which is growing like a weed, and some tall sagittaria which are also growing like weeds.

I also add Flourish excel, Flourish iron and Flourish potassium in addition to this but the plants were not "flourishing", pun intended, until I started using this.

I wish I had taken a photo of the difference this made in the anacharis. A lot of it was turning brown, but as soon as I started using this, BANG! green florets that are now 8 inches long or more. I will be selling the extras soon.

Here's what the bottle says: "Easy-Life Pro-Fito is a highly concentrated, comprehensive plant fertilizer for freshwater aquariums. It contains iron, potassium, manganese and many other vital elements... does not contain nitrates or phosphates."

This is a little more expensive than the Flourish in this size bottle. But if you go up to the 1000 ml bottle, this is only $18.54 and the Flourish is... not available on Amazon in the 1000ml size.

Tetra Pond Filtration Fountain Kits

This is an excellent product I am currently using it in a 50 gallon round water feature. At first I thought it would be too much power but its perfect the fountains are high quality! Much better then the little 100gph found I had in here before. Its full adjustable. The filter keeps out large debri, the fountain heads are high quality, and it has extra power/ability to run a seperate hose to a small frog that shoots water from its mouth in addition to the fountain itself. Highly recommend! Much cheaper then Lowes/HD products same thing would run over $100!

I like the design of the pump as far as size but it lacks power and the filter box doesn't stay under water without help (like a brick).

I bought this to replace the original system made by Little Giant, which had started to fall apart over the years. This pump is very powerful and the filter is much better that the one on the Little Giant. I've had it in for weeks now and have not had to clean the filter yet ( I also don't have fish in there now which makes a difference).

You have to weight down the filter or it will float, but this is no big problem. I used a small brick on top, but you can also put weights under the filter elements before putting them in which will work just fine.

Overall, it's well worth the money and looks to be very sturdily built.

I bought this [new] from a different website and installed it per the instructions. It is intended to keep a birdbath full, and it seemed to work right away, but the next morning the float was under water, and the birdbath was overflowing. The problem turned out to be a bad seam [the float is made in parts and glued together], and it filled with water. I contacted the distributor, and they sent me a replacement which worked ok. For over $ [incl. shipping] though, this is not a good value, even though customer service was good. There are others out there that are less expensive and just as good if not better.

I have been using this for our RO-DI unit and it's been working like a charm for about a year. However, now it's not functioning anymore and I need to replace it. Perhaps for the price this should have been as long they would have lasted.
