I have the Rapids Pro Series Wet/Dry Filter Systemfor my 100-gallon salt water aquarium. It has 2 pumps, and this one is the bigger pump. The smaller protein skimmer pump is the one I needed. Unfortunately, no one, not even Amazon, sells the protein skimmer pump. (they have protein skimmer pumps, just not the one that goes in the Rapids pro. Fortunately, I took the Venturi apart and cleaned it out, and now it works like new. I also have the Autofill system, which is great if I'm going to be out of town for more than a few days.

Oceanic 36015 BioCube HQI Aquarium, 29-Gallon

Oceanic 36015 BioCube HQI Aquarium, 29-GallonI have had this since May 2012 and use it as a Saltwater, Fish only tank and it has really been hard to maintain. I have to wipe it down every day because salt accumulates all over it, especially at the seams and you can forget keeping the glass cover clean. I have already had to replace the protein skimmer. The original one didn't stop working it just didn't work well enough. In fairness, this may be easier to maintain as a freshwater tank, but I regret the purchase and wish I had just gotten a larger tank that would hold more than 3 or 4 fish to make the maintenance work while. Probably could maintain a 55 gal. at the same cost with the same or even less maintenance. I have to use additional fans to keep the temperature at an acceptable level, the light emits a lot of heat even with the fans it holds. With this size tank the temperature fluctuates at the least change in environmental temperature, even small temporary change.

I have had my hqi for a month now, and i am very impressed how easy it is to keep corals and fish. I would recommend a couple power heads for it though

Exotic Environments Lighthouse Ruin Aquarium Ornament, 6-1/2-Inch by 6-Inch by 9-Inch

Exotic Environments Lighthouse Ruin Aquarium Ornament, 6-1/2-Inch by 6-Inch by 9-InchThis looks great inside my tank. The fish love swimming inside and all around the lighthouse. I am very pleased with the way it looks inside the tank.

I was extremely pleased with this product. It provides a lot of different sized openings for fish of any size to enter and hide. I have a 46 gallon bow front tank, and the size fits perfectly, allowing for room to put plants and other decorations. If you've got a smaller tank, obviously you'd be limited with how many decorations you'd be able to use in conjunction with this item.

Overall, a good purchase for the cost.

Exo Terra Glass Terrarium Tank

Exo Terra Glass Terrarium Tank, 24 by 18 by 18-InchThis is a nice tank for a vivarium and the front opening doors make the inside more accessable, the only reason I dont give this 5 stars is bc of the very fragile hinges on the front doors which can break if not gently opened and closed.

VERY nice item. However, it was packaged very poorly and when my son opened it Christmas Day, it was cracked very badly. But, Petsolution sent us another one right away and there response was superb! My son loves this item VERY much!

The front doors make easy to get your pet, food and decoration out fast... I have some trouble with the screen because of the space between the plastic supports but nothing that can't be worked with patience and care.

The only bad thing here is the price tag for this size, when I order my I pay $190 and something and the terrarium was broken when I get it, I have to pay $20 extra to get a local store cut a tempered glass door to repair the destroyed one, but going back to the price tag I will recomend this one only if you need the front door design, if not check some other options on reptile terrariums (I found one terrarium for turtles on local pet store 4" shorter for only $69, man...)

And be sure you are willing to deal with broken glass, exchanges or DIY work to repair it... for me was first and last time I buy big glass items online.

I don't really leave reviews, but my experience has been so negative that I feel I must warn any customers thinking of purchasing this item.

I originally ordered this last week and with my Prime membership the terrarium arrived Saturday morning. I could hear broken glass in the box and when the delivery man and I opened the package we saw that the back window was shattered. The person(s) who packed it simply put it in a box (one it barely squeezed into) with no protection at all. No peanuts, no foam, no bubble wrap. Just stuck it in a box to be thrown on a truck. There wasn't even any indication on the box that the contents were fragile; only a sticker reading "Heavy, Lift with Care".

I called Amazon customer support (I ordered it from them and not another seller) to request a replacement and for them to pass my packaging feedback along to the shipping department. I had high hopes that the new one would actually be properly cared for. Wednesday evening, when it still hadn't arrived, I checked my tracking information to find a notification that UPS did not deliver it due to damage.

Once again I called Amazon and a third terrarium was shipped out yesterday. My brother had to refuse it at the door this morning because, for the third time, it was improperly packaged. He told me it looked like whoever packed it just rigged a box around the terrarium and taped it up. Again, the sound of broken glass could be heard.

Never have I ever had a negative word to say about Amazon or their service. I specifically ordered this through them because I thought, apparently foolishly, that they would know what they were doing when shipping something like this. I am extremely disappointed and baffled as to how anyone would think shipping a large and very obviously glass item without proper protection was in any way ok.

Needless to say, I am getting my money refunded and will look elsewhere for this terrarium.

I hope this review will help anyone considering ordering this, and I hope my feedback to Amazon will see their shippers trained on how to properly send items like this in the future.

*I would like to add that Amazon customer support has been wonderful each time I've had to contact them, and I want to thank them for their understanding and assitance.

First off all other reviewers should learn they are reviewing the product not the shipper. There is a separate place for that. Now on to the tank. The best I have ever had. I have been keeping herps for 20 years and had always had aquarium style tanks. I now have this one in 3 different sizes and love it. I'll list some great things about it

1 The bottom is sealed and rated to hold water. Cheaper terrariums are not and may or may not leak. If you are going to build any kind of vivarium, this is your tank

2 The back wall gives a great look and function to the tank. I have bearded dragons in mine and they love to climb and tear away at it. To fix this I followed instructions online and covered it with grout and repainted it. Just search youtube for building a backwall and you get to skip the hardest part of shaping styrofoam. My geckos don't don't damage theirs so depending on the animal you may not have to do anything.

3 Build quality is great all around. Good materials, holes to run cables inside, underneath, anywhere you would need to.

4 the most obvious but the best. As well as an opening on top this product has 2 front opening glass doors. It makes it easy to set up he tank but most importantly I found that I interact so much more with my pets because its so easy. I don't have to remove lights and heat lamps every time I want to get to them. I can just flip a switch open the door and there they are. Some times I'll just pet them real quick if I don't have time to hold them. I think they prefer not to be grabbed from top also. Maybe a natural instinct because of birds to fear things coming from on top of you. Its easy to feed daily, change water ect...

I could never go back to anything else after using this tank

Now for the one kinda negative. The top (I'm sure for strength and long term durability) is crisscrossed with plastic bars. This means that larger standard dome lamps will not fit directly on the screen and will rest on a bar. Also if you are using ceramic heat bulbs there is a good chance you could melt it. Exo-Terra makes domes that fit and are also very high quality. So I would recommended getting one from them. So be aware of a possible added expense when switching to this tank depending on your needs

Aquatop IPF-302 Aquarium Internal Filter

Aquatop IPF-302 Aquarium Internal FilterThis thing is small. It is rated as a 40 gallon, in tank filter. There is only enough room for a little bit of media, and the only thing included is a thin strip of black sponge, the more porous kind for housing bio bacteria. But that's it. It will not hold Purigen in the bag, nor does it come with regular floss or carbon. You could add carbon to it in loose form. At least add some small bio-balls, or folded up filter floss. It would not be sufficient as your only method of filtration on a 40 gallon tank. Really, on any tank, as it is. However, it is quiet and produces a good outflow. The little suction cups work well, also. I'm using it in my 75 gallon tank as extra filtration, but mainly to agitate the surface. (I am using the suction cups to hold it on, almost at the bottom of the tank, and have the outflow pointing up) It has a few different attachments so you can point the outflow however you like. There is an attachment to attach it to an air pump also. One thing that is dumb: THERE ARE NO INTRUCTIONS. Luckily it's basic and I've set up and tweaked filters for many years. If you're looking for a cheap filter, spend the extra $5-$10 and get something else (BIGGER) from a bigger named company. Do not use this as your only means of filtration, because it is not large enough to hold the proper material for adequate filtration. You need (1) Aquarium floss or a sponge to collect debris that's floating in the water (2) Something porous to allow beneficial bacteria to grow on (VERY IMPORTANT-Google 'Nitrogen Cycle') (3) Possibly carbon, to purify your water. (You have to change it regularly or it starts to pollute your tank) So it's not big enough to house all that...but it is excellent to move water (avoiding "dead spots") and help oxygenate the tank (by agitating the surface). Also cheaper and quieter than a power-head setup, and just as effective.

The castles are slightly yellower than they consistently appear in photos online. They are working pretty well, however.

The company's service was excellent when it came to the castles, which showed up quickly and I got what I ordered. I recommend the castles but must rate the company a C+.

However, I ordered a blue critter keeper from a lot of 10 or 20 blue critter keepers from the same company but on e-bay, and they sent me a bright orange critter keeper, and when I complained they asked them to send another blue critter keeper but the CR person checked it, and they had sent a different color. They said that despite advertising a lot of blue critter keepers they in fact had no blue ones. She refunded my money, but the only other thing she did to fix it was say they were changing the wording of their ads.

However, they do seem to have upgraded their customer service from the complaints I've gotten that products showed up late or not at all and they couldn't get a response. I did find customer service prompt and attentive.

Hagen Marina Betta Aquarium Starter Kit, Sun Swirl

Hagen Marina Betta Aquarium Starter Kit, Sun SwirlI used this product for a time for my Betta Fish, Sun Tzu. HE liked the tank, it was bigger than the cup I bought him in, and he was making beautiful bubble nests (meaning he was looking to breed, and he was secure in raising his fry in the tank.) However, I do not breed my Betta, but it was good to know he was feeling so confident in only a half gallon of water. I wall mounted it to protect him from the cats, and bought the LED light (sold separately) and that was pretty cool. First I bought a plastic plant to go with, then I moved to a live plant because I heard they improve water quality. Then I researched and realized he needed tropical water, so I bought a thermometer. I saw his water temp. was fluctuating between night and day (duh), and I was worried the temperature flux was putting to much stress on his tiny fishy body. I was also getting very tired of needing to do water changes every four days. SO... I ditched this tank and bought a 10 gallon tank complete with lighted hood, and power filter for less than what I payed for this tank (full price at the local national pet store chain). I put in a thermostat heater and some full spectrum lights (for growing aquarium plants) and bada-bing bada-boom, I have a beautiful planted tank, the center piece to my apartment, a VERY happy Betta fish with plenty of room to stretch his pretty little fins, plenty of places for him to hide if he wishes, and a tank that requires significantly LESS maintenance than this half gallon. That's just the up and down of it. I still keep this tank around for a back up, in case something needs quarantining, or if the Zombie Apocalypse happens and I need to take him and run. (I had a dream the apartment was on fire, and I used this to rescue him. Not a bad idea! ;D)

IN CONCLUSION: This tank is not cruelty. My fish was lively and making bubble nests when he lived there for three months, but in all honesty, a non-filtered tank requires WAY more maintenance, and if you slack off, you could end up seriously hurting or killing your fish. Ammonia, Nitrates, Nitrites, all things you need to be wary of, and it's so much easier to just get a proper tank, something with a thermostat heater and a filter. Betta need water between 75 and 80 degrees to live comfortably. They are tropical fish.

WALL MOUNTING: Yes, you can screw it to your wall, but then the tank part is removable from the wall mount, making for easy water changes. You do not have to unscrew and remove the whole thing from the wall to change the water. You simply lift the tank off of it's wall mount/stand, do your do, and place it back. SUPER SUPER easy! Props for that, it's the best wall mounted tank money can buy. If you're cool with the constant water changes, then go for it.

Betta need at least 2.5 gallons and either need daily or every other day water changes without a filter (really just simpler to get a filter for the tank), and a water temperature between 70 and 80 degrees (so most need a heater). This tank doesn't really allow any of these requirements. Another reviewer said it wasn't cruelty and her betta was happy I sincerely disagree. Her fish may have been happier than it was, but that's because it has only been in breeding tanks (basically the size of this tank) and the cup you get him in from the store. He's happier than he was, but that isn't saying much, and he still won't be very happy in this setup. This allows for next to no decorations, which betta like since they provide hiding places and places to explore. The only thing I'd put in one of these is a marimo moss ball. It isn't worth the money, just look into a better tank setup so your betta can really be happy.

Zilla 09635 Night Red Light Halogen Bulb, 75-Watt

Zilla 09635 Night Red Light Halogen Bulb, 75-Watt
  • Halogen delivers more light and heat with less power
  • Compact design saves space, focuses light
  • One bulb provides both radiant heat and light
  • Step up to the convenience and cost savings of halogen

I use these bulbs for leopard geckos, since they are nocturnal they dont seem to like the brightness of these lights. When these arrived in the mail I only installed one of them and had the black colored bulb in use already. But due to the low levels in heat from the black colored bulb, I went with these since they are 75w and not 50w like the black bulbs. I would have to say that these are NOT night time bulbs for the reason of the brightness of these lights.

One of these bulbs lights up a 14X12 room when a nighttime bulb should really only give enough light to be able to see the reptile in the cage.

For the price of this Halogen bulb (50 watt) I think this has lasted longer compared to the other brands of Halogen 50 watts out there, which tend to be a bit pricier. This usually gets the job done for me as I have to keep a tank lit.

U.P. Aqua Inline Co2 Atomizer System

U.P. Aqua Inline Co2 Atomizer SystemThis Co2 inline diffuser has no issues at all. The other customer's Co2 must have been leaking and not keeping pressure. I use a standard 5lb Catalina aluminum Co2 cylinder with an Aquatek of California regulator and NEVER experience any issue. It is running through an Eheim classic 2211. The outtake hose on this filter is too small so I have it installed at the very top of the intake as it comes out of the aquarium. By the time the intake reaches the canister filter the bubbles are completely dissolved and it does not make the canister run loud because there are no bubbles. If you run it on the outtake into the aquarium you will still see a mist or sometimes get bubbles in the tank. This never happens if you install it on the filter intake. It is just as good as a Co2 reactor, actually better because it doesn't reduce your flow like an inline Co2 reactor will and you don't have to have an extra pump like you do with hang-on-back Co2 reactors. I highly recommend this. And I am a professional aquascaper! It runs completely silent as well.

Required almost 80psi to even diffuse....not sure if that is the design, but simple aquarium CO2 systems do not need to run that high.

Fluval FX5 External Canister Filter

Fluval FX5 External Canister FilterI've had my Fluval FX5 since summer of 2008 and have been running it non-stop since then on a 125 gallon freshwater aquarium. In 2009 I added a Coralife Turbo-Twist UV Sterilizer (36 W) and my water has been absolutely crystal clear for months at a time (I highly recommend this addition). The few times I've noticed it get a little murky (when the curtain was open and sunlight enhanced algae growth) it was totally clear within 12 hours.

The Fluval FX5 is a great filter but requires regular cleaning (every 1-3 months full filter clean). However, you don't need to replace all of the media each time you clean the filter (which can get really expensive). Instead, you can use a garden hose or similar very strong spray to clean the main filter sponges (around the edges of the filter) and the blue filter pads. The white polishing pad should be replaced regularly. I rinse the bio media in tank water and dechlorinated fresh water to get rid of any chunks of things.

As others have said, expect a tiny bit of water when you close the valves and remove the hoses to move the filter, which makes sense since there's about 2" between the valve shut off and the filter. I keep a towel wrapped around when I remove the hose and have never had an issue with getting my hardwood floors wet.

The filter, when full of media and water is heavy but not too bad. It weighs around 40-50 lbs like that (depending on your media).

I suggest having tube cleaning brushes on hand to clean out the intake and output tubes (the ones in the filter no need to remove the filter tubes from the filter to the aquarium). Otherwise a sponge will clean the inside of the filter perfectly and a strong spray will clean everything else.

When it's running it is incredibly quiet. And as others have said, it's good to note that when you first turn it on it will run for 2 minutes then shut off for 2 minutes then will run for about 24 hours then shut off for two minutes and turn back on. It will do that every 24 hours to remove air in the system.

A few things to note:

This filter has incredible suction, it's made for a 400 gallon tank. Don't place plants or bubble makers anywhere near it or it will suck the plants against and in and the bubbles up (that will make your filter noisy).

If you are breeding anything in your tank, expect to find babies in the filter. I find Corydora catfish in the filter all the time. They're alive and fine, but need to be moved to the main tank rather quickly so clean the filter every month. Thin skinny fish like loaches may be sucked up into the filter if they can't swim fast enough so you may want to put a breeding basket around it to keep them away but not hinder the filter intake.

The media is expensive, but you can make your own rough filter pads (open hole filled black filter media), and carbon bags much cheaper than buying the premade media. However, the rest you'll want to buy real Fluval parts (search for best prices).

Remember to fill it until it's about 1-1.5" from the top before attaching to to the hoses. You don't want the filter to have to work too hard to finish filling. It is self priming but needs that much help to make it work effectively.

If you hear it struggling after you hook it up (and you added enough water) it's because there's too much air in the system, turn it off, wait about 15 seconds, turn it back on. You'll see a huge mass of bubbles come out then it will work fine.

Remember to open the valves once you have it hooked up to the hoses before plugging it in. Yes I've plugged it in and forgotten to open the valves.

Overall I highly recommend this filter for any tanks 100 gallons and greater.

I've been running the FX5 on a 125 gallon turtle setup for about two months now. Setup is very easy, especially if you have previous experience with canister filters. I saw another review that stated that the filter was noisy, but mine is pretty quiet even when the tank stand's door is open and the filter is exposed to the room. My flowrate has been relatively high, especially considering that it is packed with biomax and polishing pads. It is important to note that unlike other Fluval canisters, this beast actually filters water from top down, so you'll want your finer media like polishing pads in the bottom basket.

I docked a star because I am not a big fan of the design of the internal media baskets, nor do I like the cheap plastic 'T' rods that are used to pull them out. Also, despite the stop valves on the intake and outtake hoses, be ready to clean-up water when detaching for routine cleaning.

Although the Eheim Professional Canister Filters are arguably better for certain purposes, you aren't going to beat the value of the Fluval FX5. The features and specs you get are equivalent to several much more expensive filter options.

I got one of these from my local F/S, and it works great. It is very large though, which to me is a good thing. More Water volume which is always a plus with saltwater aquariums. It comes with a DVD that tells you how to set it up. You don't really need the DVD, because it is quite simple to set up and get started. It comes with more than enough hose to do the job. I have the hose coiled around in the bottom of my stand it is so long. Every night it shuts off to let the air bubbles escape and then turn back on. You don't have to do anything to start it. So far their have been no leaks or mechanical failures.

I'll keep it short and to the facts.

The FX5 does everything it is advertised to and is very quiet. I am using it on an 85 gallon freshwater tank stocked with 7 3-4 inch African Cichlids, 10 2 inch clown loaches, 10 tiny convicts, one 6 inch plecostomus, and 2 one inch rays. I only add aquarium salt to the tank and treat the tap water with Aquasafe during 25% water changes once a week; no other chemicals. After running the FX5 for 3 days I tested the water for ammonia (0 ppm), ph (7.5), nitrite (.5 ppm), and nitrate (40 ppm); all within tolerances for an established community tank, albeit a little low for the cichlids.

My conclusion? The FX5 rocks and is well worth the money.

My long journey to this conclusion (in short form)-

I read all of the reviews and ordered an Eheim Pro 3 2180 a couple of months ago. Sent it back immediately because I use salt in the water and that would destroy the internal water heater and subsequently the pump (according to the Eheim technician).

I then ordered an Eheim Pro 3e 2076; it came, it leaked profusely at the pump-to-canister seal (made an incredible mess), tried all of the solutions mentioned in the troubleshooting section of the documentation, called the tech line to no avail, returned the pump for full refund.

I then ordered an Eheim Pro 3e 2078; it came, it leaked profusely at the pump-to-canister seal also, became disgusted at the product quality, returned the unit for a full refund.

I then ordered the Fluval FX5; it came, it worked as stated, I'm very happy!

Hope this helps.

I own four of these filters, the oldest one being in operation and going strong for over 6 years with no issues, noise or otherwise. If you've had problems with yours, you probably got a lemon and should've returned it during the return or warranty period.

These filters have a lot of flow and the motor runs very quiet (remember, I own 4 of them). I use one for a 75 gallon Loggerhead Turtle tank, a 90 gallon Mata Mata tank, a 110 Puntius Barb tank and a 300 gallon monster fish tank in conjunction with sump filtration. If you've ever kept turtles, you know that they are even messier than the largest of fish. But the FX5 keeps my turtle tanks crystal clear and am so glad that they exist. I also own an Eheim Pro3 2080 which I bought around the same time that I bought my first FX5. Eheims are the luxury cars of canister filtration and like luxury cars, you'll pay a premium for them. They'll last you for decades with virtually no problems...unless you get a lemon. But for the money, you cannot beat the Fluval FX5 and it outdoes the Eheim Pro3 in flow and mechanical filtration. The Eheim equivalent to the FX5 is the Eheim 2262. The 2262 is a powerhouse...even more so than the FX5. But.....this filter ranges in price from between $400 and $500!!!

So, if you're on a budget and you need mega filtration, for the money, the FX5 is the filter to consider.

Perfecto Manufacturing APF36460 Glass Canopy Aquarium, 46-Inch

Perfecto Manufacturing APF36460 Glass Canopy Aquarium, 46-InchThe Canopy was poor constructed at the seam...........the attachment strip was off by 1/8 inch or so, resulting in an inability to fit the canopy in my acquarium.

Emailed the merchant, who immediately and graciously apologized. Upon return of the defective canopy, a full refund (inclusive of shipping) was given. Quite grateful to this merchant and would strongly recommend them as a seller.

After three years I'm still very happy with the glass lid for the 46-gallon bowfront tank, but I have some reservations.

First, like the other reviews stated, this lid will not fit your tank out of the box. I don't have the equipment to sand down glass; sandpaper doesn't cut it. It took three trips to local glass shops before I found one (Franciscan Glass, Mountain View, CA) that would trip 1/4" off the edge. No, the glass isn't tempered, but whatever machine they used took 30 seconds and the lid was fine.

Second, the black plastic seam between the two pieces splits down the middle after years of daily use, but a little Gorilla-brand black, heavy duty duct tape fixed that.

Third, and this might not affect you, but hard water deposits will eventually fog this glass up. It's not bad, but the lid hasn't been crystal clear since I got it. I'm not sure how to fix this other than giving it a good scrub every six months or so.

Still, buy it, take it to a local glass shop, and be happy. It's worth it.

UPDATE: After four years the glass cracked and I bought a replacement. Just like before, the canopy is 1mm too long, so I think it must be a defect in my tank. I'm too lazy to get the glass trimmed this time so now it just sits slightly ajar. Still worth it.

I love the look of this clock. Unfortunately, it doesn't keep time; losing about 10 minutes a day. It also has a slow leak. I'd return it except I have a fish in it.

I've had this clock now for quite a few months. It worked right away out of the box, and despite what it looks like in the picture, it has much MUCH more room than a lot of the "betta aquariums" in the pet stores. I've had fish all my life, and have had varying success with betta fish at different times. The fish I bought for this was a more expensive one and to be honest I thought about buying a cheaper one first, just in case. But this fish is the happiest, most active fish I've had. He seems to love all the action he watches in our house (I have three kids) and he follows the minute hand around sometimes too. He makes lots of bubbles at the top (a sign they are happily nest building, right betta experts?) and no fish poo does not float around in the water... the water has stayed remarkably clean we haven't even had algae issue and again despite the picture you don't actually have to fill it all the way to the top, so there is plenty of air. There is also a hole at the top to drop the food through, as well as a bigger hatch that you can open just to feed and clean, or leave open if you're really worried about fresh air/carbon dioxide buildup. We have two other betta fish in a split container I bought at a pet store and frankly they don't seem half as happy or healthy. Neither does the poor little guy at my daughter's preschool. Maybe I'll buy three more Fish Clocks so they're all happier. Also, every single person that has come to our home is tripped out when they realize there is a fish in our clock, all the kids love it, and no one has run screaming to PETA yet. I'm buying one for my mother for her birthday today as well.

I purchased this item as a gift for my daughter. She loves animals and works with them. She was very happy to get it as it is an unusual item and fits her personality. She also said she needed a clock. It's attractive and has large numbers. The fish seems to enjoy it too. The perfect gift for the unusual person.

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Tetra Half Moon Aquarium Kit With Led

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Tetra Half Moon Aquarium Kit With LedGreat and very unique looking aquarium. Perfect view from all angles when against the wall. The included LED light looks great, especially the blue LEDs to mimic moonlight at night. The light is definitely not powerful enough for growing freshwater plants though, as I had to upgrade to 3 compact florescent lights, which also meant not being able to use the included acrylic top any longer. In all a great aquarium, that looks beautiful, and is perfect as is for a fish only aquarium. Surprisingly I found it way cheaper at Petsmart though; very rare to see anyone beat Amazon's prices anymore.

Coralife Energy Savers ACLAF9550 Trap-Em Bristle Worm Trap

Coralife Energy Savers ACLAF9550 Trap-Em Bristle Worm Trap3 months ago I bought nice coral but few days after that I've notice few little guys crawling around it...after doing my research it appeared to be a bristle worm..some people would tell that's good for you and these worms are great scavengers but for me they look really creepy :) so I decided to buy a banded shrimp which didn't work out at all and last nigh I saw 1 bristle worm in my aquarium 10'' long and almost had a hearth attack :)..Today I went to the Aquarium Store to get six line wrasse and arrow crab but end up buying Trap Em Bristle Worm Trap.

I sat it up right after coming back from the store and after 5 minutes I got the first one around 5''...after 30 minutes the big one 10'' tried to get to the bite but couldn't fit into the hole :) but it was enough to pull him out...that's a big relief that this trap actually worked even in day time...

Thanks "Coralife"..you saved the day for me :)

If you have bristle worm I'm sure it'll help you to at least reducing the number of these guys..if you wanna keep them that's fine but they're growing really fast and to really big size...I'd rather stay with my hermit crabs and snails doing my clean-up job...

Good Luck.

I was a bit skeptical when I first was researching these bristle worm traps, but I quickly changed my mind. My tank was being taken over by bristle worms. They were coming out at all times of the day and night. They were everywhere. We tried getting a banded shrimp which ate a few but not even close to the amount we needed it too. Just using this trap less than 10 times, I have caught more than 100 worms. The directions tell you to leave the trap in all night, but I found that the worms just find their way out after an hour or so. I put the trap in with the bait, and watch the worms travel into the tube. After about 15 minutes I take the tube out and move it to a different spot in the tank. It works like a charm!

I would recommend this bristle worm trap to anyone!

The crabs pull the ends off and the bristle worms escape. If you have time to sit and watch it, and empty it as soon as you see a worm or two in it, then it might be ok. But I have hundreds of worms to deal with. This is just not that effective.

So I bought the trap-em, trap to get rid of a few pesky bristleworms that hitch hiked on my live rock. There's 3 big monsters in my tank, or should I say, was.

After reading some forums online, they all typically recommend that you use a homemade concoction over one of these, but, I tried my hand at both. Within the first 24 hours, I had caught one of the major worms inside the trap, however, I think that his friends caught onto my doings and haven't gone into it yet. I figure I'll wait a few more weeks before I try my hand again, hopefully I'll snag the remaining two. If you want to spend the 10-15 bucks on this, its not a bad investment.

Two Little Fishies ATLPBR150 GFO PhosBan Reactor 150

Two Little Fishies ATLPBR150 GFO PhosBan Reactor 150I purchased two of these TLF reactors so that I could run them in series. I decided to run D-Nitrate in One and Activated Carbon in the other to try and bring the Nitrate/Nitrite numbers down in my 75 gallon ref. To early to tell yet whether these two have actually reduced my numbers, but there is no doubt that the water in the tank is now more crystal clear than before. Is it the carbon in the reactor along with less feeding that is clearing up the water cloumn, or is it just the fact that the Reef is now more mature than it was before this installation? Only time will tell how effective these are in reducing the Nitrate level in the reef. As for hooking them up in series, they do require some minor engineering and plumbing alterations, but if you are adpt at working with a refugium, and a somewhat sophisticated sump, this should be a piece of cake. I say should because I have a great plumbing supply house nearby, with a great salesman who will stop at nothing to keep the number of pieces in play to get this running at a minimum. If you only have a Lowes or Home Depot nearby, or a good hardware store, you can generally find the necessary items there to accomplish the task. I would have rated these a 5 "Star" item had I found the inclusion of the necessary plumbing parts included in the original packaging. As far as bang for the buck is concerned, these certainly meet that criteria and i would highly reccommend them to other mixed reef keepers looking to inexpensively add Phosphate or nitrate reactors to their systems.

This is a very useful product that helps me to bring the phosphate problem under control, finally. I use it on my 44 gal aquarium for a month now and it is still taking out all of the phosphate. However, it should be noticed that it will require some experience and skill level on getting this unit prepqred, particularly the initial backwash portion. I used a T connector to hook it up to a Maxijet 1200 pump and use a reducer on the outlet end of the T to create some back-pressure. This way I can use the same pump to provide both circulation (in the aqaurium) and enough flow to go through this Phosphate Reactor. I set this up in a sink and backwash the reactor with tap water (no PO4 in the tap here in Seattle) and ran it for at about 30 minutes to get rid of the fines as much as possible before I transfer it to the aquarium. Getting the right flow rate for an ideal fluidized bed could be tricky, but doable. I would not recommend using salt water from the tank for backwash and flow adjustment, wasting valuable salt.

Just like other reviews say, it does exactly what it says it does in a durable fahion. Evenly pass water through your phosphate media to get rid of of phosphates and ultimately control algae. Very happy with mine. NOt sure what they recommend but I use a maxi jet 400 pump for mine on my 90 gal tank so that water passes through it slowly.

Fish Mate 3000PUV Pressurized UV+Bio Pond Filter

Fish Mate 3000PUV Pressurized UV+Bio Pond FilterIt took me about 6 months to actually get around to installing this in our pond, mostly because I was redoing the waterfall but I'm also quite lazy.

Previously I had tried using a 200 gallon gravity filter, media filtration, and a skimmer/pump combo. In all cases there was little improvement on algae blossoms, mosquito larvae, and water quality. After talking to a local shop, I sought out this specific filter because they had a lot of success with a showcase koi pond located behind the store.

After reading the relatively detailed instructions and following the advice of pond enthusiasts, installation took about 4 hours due to the rocky soil (it doesn't have to be in the soil but can sit flush). Since filtration efforts had been miserable failures prior to this, my hopes were high but my expectations sat far lower, so I plugged it in and went about my business.

Two weeks to the day, my pond is clear enough to make out fine details along the bottom; including areas where green frogs have burrowed into the muck. Not only is the pond clear enough to make out fine details, I finally discovered where a slow leak was coming from (liner is sinking). As a final reward, of sorts anyway, there was also a revelation in finding two long forgotten lawn ornaments, a bunch of toys tossed in long ago by my daughter or her friends, and the skeletal remains of a cat.

I will have to wait until spring and summer to see how well the UV works on controlling algae at peak levels of sunshine and mosquito larvae but with the rapid development of clarity I am feeling confident that we'll be able to maintain good water quality. Highly recommend this filter!

This device does keep the water clean. However, it is made of cheap, brittle plastic that is prone to failure. In one year, I've had three different "Tanks" which have all failed in various ways (a crack, another crack, and a complete 0-ring seal surface failure). The clean-out valve has also failed, resulting in most of the pond water being pumped out. The manufacturer has so far replaced the parts, but their customer support staff treats you like a criminal when you call, implying that you have done something wrong with the product. What is there to do wrong? It is backwashed every week. The pump can not supply enough pressure to exceed the rating of the device.

Look, a person can go broke by owning a pond with all the chemicals and media filtration and more chemicals. All the pond places recommend these expensive "mercedes benz" units (that cost $1000 more than this fishmate) to do the job of this fishmate. I have learned to get the advice of other water gardeners on Daves Garden and quite a few of them were already using this and highly recommended it! Some of these people owned other units prior that cost A LOT more but weren't as easy to clean.

I bought this Fishmate because I was having a lot of health problems with my koi. I have an extensive waterfall filtration system and a turnover rate in my 2000 gallon pond of 2.5 times an hour yet my fish were always sick with something or another. I was also struggling with suspended algae. The UV light cleared the water within 24 hours. My pond wasn't as dirty as the other reviewer with the toys and dead cat in his pond... (?) but it wasn't crystal clear like it is now. Also, I am happy to say the fish are healthier!!!

It took me about 35 minutes to assemble it. That is only because I had to measure tubes and trim them and read the instructions. It really was a no brainer! If I had to set one up now after doing the first it would probably take me 10 minutes.

Another great tip I recvd from other water gardeners is to dig a hole in the ground and fit it with a large enough bucket or similar walled container with the bottom cut out. Place the Fishmate into the hole and landscape. I used a bucket and it works great! The reason for the bucket is to keep the walls of the ground from caving in on the canister. You can drain the muck our right into this bottomless muck pit.

BTW: I bought my Fishmate 3 months ago. Buy all the hoses and clips all at the same time and you can get it up and running ASAP.

Forget the chemicals. I could have purchased two of these units with the money I spent on algae kill in the last three years. My water (2500 gallons) is crystal clear even in the hot summer with full sun and several fish. Even the smell of dead, rotting algae is gone. The unit was easy to install and there have not been any leaks or problems. Even my fish are happier. I don't think they ever liked those chemicals. After adding chemicals they wouldn't eat for several days.

We have had one of these filters for about 6 yrs now. Our first one died last year and we were waiting till spring to replace it. We waited just a few weeks too long before we had a full algae bloom. I ordered the filter on Thursday and when we came home from work on Friday, our pond looked like green pea soup. The filter came on Saturday and I was afraid that the algae had already gotten out of control and it would take weeks to get the water clean again. We installed the filter late Saturday afternoon and when we got up Sunday morning there was such a big improvement already. Within 24 hrs the water is almost crystal clear and the fish seem happy that no chemicals were used. I highly recommend this product.

Como Fish Tank Aquarium Red Clear Plastic Air Pump Check Valves 5 Pcs

Como Fish Tank Aquarium Red Clear Plastic Air Pump Check Valves 5 PcsI never say that an item is worthless unless it is and these check valves were the worst things that I've ever purchased anywhere, anytime, ever. I have a commercial air pump and these check valves darn near made it stop pumping they're so bad.

When I tried to pull the air hose off these check valves to take them out, they came apart in two separate pieces. Useless! I wouldn't recommend these to my worst enemy. Well , maybe to worst enemy but no one else.

I wouldn't have given them one star but at least they arrived from Hong Kong.

I used these for my 10g air pump and it works great. They stay secure by the piping and they work just as they should. Not flimsy or easily breakable from the way I've handled them so 5 star product for quality and price combo.

I have used this type of product before and they cracked, these look much more sturdy I am confident they will last.

Also, this is a very important safety feature, don't skip on this, unless you want a flood in your house and dead fish.

Fluval Flora Stainless Steel Planting Tongs - 10.63-inches

Fluval Flora Stainless Steel Planting Tongs - 10.63-inchesI have a 5-gallon planted tank with Crystal Red Shrimp and tons of tiny live plants. With the piece of wood that I have in the tank and the fear of smashing small critters, I bought these tweezers, Fluval Plant Scissors, and long tweezers without the bend in the tip. These are great for planting individual pieces of bunch plants and GREAT for catching and squishing snails. Who needs chemical snail control when you have the therapy and satisfaction of squishing them yourself? The tweezers made themselves triply valuable when I started a 65-gallon 36x18 planted tank. Even on a stool I am up to my armpit in water to reach the bottom. These tweezers make it possible to replant the bottom of the tank and pick up debris on the bottom, rearrange stones and wood, and minutely adjust anything that needs adjusting. I have used them to deliberately place tiny bits of glossostigma, dwarf baby tears, flame moss, christmas tree moss, and riccia where I need it and to hold them in place while using fishing line to attach it to wood, rocks, or in the gravel.

I recommend these for anyone who has a planted tank. The angled tips make even the hardest-to-reach corners easily accessible, and keep clumsy fingers away from delicate roots and critters.

Buy these on Amazon! Prime customers can get them in 2 days for less than half the cost of a fish store.

This must be some really bad stainless steel. These tongs rusted in no time. I only use them for my freshwater aquarium. I got them on sale, otherwise I'd be very disappointed.

I had a pair of no-brand stainless steel tongs I bought from eBay for 10 dollars a while back. It proved to be very useful and comfortable to use, I decided to look on Amazon to take advantage of my Prime membership. At the time I bought this, it was 10 dollars. I see that it is cheaper now, so it's probably worth the money at the time of this writing (11/14/11), but I would not have purchased this if I had known the followings:

A bit too much resistance on the tongs when trying to grab squeeze the tongs.

Round but non-smooth tips screeches against fish tank glass.

My eBay one has none of these flaws, but for 6 bucks, it's not bad a bad buy with Prime.

If you're looking for surgical precision, look somewhere else. When you pince the tip together you can see a gap near the tip of the prongs, this causes a bit weaker grip. The strongest grip right at the angle, its not the greatest grip but overall gets the job done... Kinda. I def prefer my hands for some uses
