I ordered this item for an elderly often out-of-it aunt in assisted care in lieu of a real aquarium. She is having trouble using it and claims nothing moves when she plugs it in. I am far from her, and the distributor says they just forward the sealed package and don't know how it works. My aunt says there were no instructions, which may or may not be true. Could someone please post how it works so that I can talk her through it on the phone? Is there a switch to make the fish move? DO they move or does the background move? I wouldn't say it does an excellent job eliminating all the "dead spots" in the tank but the fish seem much happier and my feather duster looks so nice flowing in the current.The size is perfect for small aquariums and hides nicely next to my filter so it really isn't obtrusive.

This pump is VERY quiet, you actually have to see the water moving to know it's running. I also have the larger sizes but this one is great for smaller spaces. The magnet suction cup is great and secure. It is not fully adjustable as far as the angles you can aim it, but has a decent range of motion. I purchased this power head for my 10 gallon nano-reef. I was kinda afraid that it might have been to strong of a flow, but after about 2 min after i installed it, my clown and my chromi where playing in the stream. it has been the best investment to date aside from my lights. it makes feeding a breeze, it circulates the food, keeping it from falling to the sand bottom and giving the fish ample amounts of time to eat. i also use it when i dose my tank with PH buffer, i pour the PH buffer over the top of the power head and it circulates it through the tank. so anyone with a 10 gallon, don't hesitate to buy this.Save 25% Off

This looks like a really good idea in theory, but in practice it leaves a little to be desired.Pros:
It's big enough on both sides for the two bettas
5lb of gravel fills this up nicely
Set up is easy
Divider is sturdy construction
Cons:
Filter is noisy and the water simply travels over the cartridge rather than going through it like is a better idea
Don't put the gravel in first; put the divider in first
Hard to get fish into the filter side once divider is in place
Feeding panel is sort of small
Bettas have a VERY hard time with current of any type. The one on the left in my tank constantly gets caught in the filter output, causing him to flare his fins and gills in fear (bad thing). It also takes up roughly an eighth of the swimmable space in the left. I'd recommend just getting one betta and making it a community tank with compatible fish.
The construction of the tank in general is solid and well done for the price. I wish they included a different filter, and I'm going to get the TOM mini filter () to replace it.
Also, if you have aggressive fish, you'll want to find a way to make the divider opaque. Mine are fairly friendly towards one another, so it's not a problem for me, but they see each other and interact a lot.
The tank is marketed especially for 2 bettas, but during the past couple of weeks my 2 fish have been constantly agitated which eventually led to a fight! I am now looking for a new tank and medication to help my wounded fish!
I gave it one star...it looks nice, but is meant to house healthy fish and does not.

Simple design issue scared the crap out of us tonight. The light/hood is directly over the water with only a a cyclinder shaped cover for the light bulb itself. The moisture from the tank goes straight up and into the light fixture. I have had larger tanks all my life, but this was the first where the moisture would condense directly on the exposed electrical components. We bought this small starter set up for the baby's room to use it as a night light. Tonight, the baby monitor started indicating there was a problem....there was no electricity on the transmitting side of the baby monitor. Sure enough, the power had gone out. I restored the power and noticed the light fixture plug was ejected from the wall slightly..when I plugged it back in..bang and a flash! The fish are still alive, but to say the least I have unplugged this tank completely. I knew this design was an issue. Never seen a light dangling over the water and should have known better as water always condenses above and from time to time the fish can splash water up as well. I bought this tank for my first betta, Blaze. The instructions for set up were well explained and thorough. I filled up the tank, used the included Betta Bowl Plus water conditioner, and set up the filter according to the instructions. Blaze seemed to be very happy in his tank. He swam freely and had a lot of energy. The filter is really quiet, and it never sucked Blaze in the inlet. The current was pretty strong, but he just avoided it most of the time. He lived in the tank happliy for about 6 months. The little feeding door was very conveinient. Then, one day after starting to appear lathargic, he was found dead :(. So, after having a fish funeral, i let the tank just sit there for awhile, to let the water circulate for a few weeks. Then, I took 50% of the water out, replaced the filter cartrige, and re conditioned it, then, put my new betta in, Spark. He acted the same way as Blaze and immediately started making a bubble nest. He is looking good so far! Along the way, i never had a problem with any component of this system, but, i did notice some condensation by the lightbulb during the summer, so i just kept the feeding door open, and i never had that problem again. I am very pleased with this tank. BTW: This tank is actually bigger in person, so the Mini Bow 1 might work just as well for most people.Nick

I am using these on two Fluval EBI tanks (along with zoo-med 501 canisters). They work well, but because of their small size they need maintenance weekly. I am using the Fluval edge pre-filters zip tied on the intake of these filters to keep them from sucking up baby crystal shrimp.I am happy with the filters, not happy with the cost of the replacement filter media. I am cutting carbon coated filter floss pad to fit inside them instead of spending over $15 with shipping for 10 filter inserts.

These planters make it easier to clean my betta's tank. I did have to make some modifications. I cut a slit up the side, of the upper half of the pod to slip the plant into the open top of the pod. Some of the plants were larger than the diameter of the hole, so I cut a larger diameter opening of the upper pod. A dremel works well for this. After the plants were in the pods and placed in the tank, I did notice that the plants started to float. This was easily fixed by placing a larger rock in the pod. Another fix would be to bury the pod into the gravel, but my betta's tank does not have a deep gravel bed. The pods work great and I have a fair amount of substrate left, the water has been very clean and the nerite snails don't mind crawling on them. We've had a few different small animals and experimented with different cages and water bottles and have found this one to be the best by far. Small animals like gerbils and hamsters NEED to chew on stuff, and unfortunately it sometimes is their water bottle or other wire or plastic cages or toys. They need to be housed in an aquarium, first of all, so they cannot chew on the walls and latches, etc. We've owned plastic and wire cages in the past only to quickly replace them all with glass aquariums with a wire mesh top. That said, the only reasonable solution for the water bottle for the little fellas was this one because it's small, can be situated up high enough that they can't chew it, sticks on with double-sided tape, and is easily removed for filling. The other bottles we've had (many!) were all something that was bulky and hung down so far they would climb on them and chew on them. The glass one we had was fine until they chewed the whole cork off around the glass tube and we couldn't open it ever again. Gerbils in particular don't drink a lot, (and therefore don't pee a lot) so the bottle can be very tiny, which is why this one is perfect. The floating turtle inside makes it very easy to glance in and check the water level, too.

This product is very good, with the exception of the attachment. To put it on the side of the cage you have to use this wire...it's kind of dinky. But the price is fairly good for the sturdiness of the bottle. the double-ball valve is fantastic and dripping is at a bare minimum. I have had bottles that my hamster chewed open. I got this for my Russian Dwarf Hamster, I use an aquarium instead of a cage for her and while this is very small (half the size of 'normal' bottles) I was able to get it to work.Using just the hook that comes with it, the bottle would have been about 4 or 5 inches from the bottom of the cage, way out of reach. Simply use some paperclips and you can get it to work just fine.

I did a little shopping around to figure out what type of light fixture to get, as my compact flourescent hood ballasts started failing prematurely. Apparently, LEDs are the latest and greatest.I was leery of this one because there were no product reviews yet. So here is mine.
I saw complaints on other models about the LEDs being too directional...in other words, they shine down directly and don't illuminate the areas either in the front or back of the tank, or both. This doesn't seem to be the case with this lighting fixture. It is very bright and appears to cover the entire floor of the tank. This is a 60 gallon acrylic tank. Perhaps with wider tanks, this could be a problem--I can't say. But it fits the bill for a 60 gallon tank (which is basically a taller 55-gallon tank).
There is one power cord, so you couldn't use separate timers for the actinic and daylight bulbs. However, there is a 3-function switch:
1.) All lights off
2.) Daylight/actinic on
3.) Actinic only on
I snapped some pictures with my cell phone, and they don't really reflect how vibrant the tank looks with this lighting fixture in place. I may post some at a later date or try to take better pictures.
I realized when I opened the box that the mounting brackets were installed upside down. They slide out easily enough so you can reorient them properly before setting this on your tank. Perhaps this is done for packaging/shipping reasons. I don't think the instructions mention this, but I only skimmed them because I was anxious to see this baby installed.
It appears to be an excellent fixture, although I've only had it installed for less than 24 hours. I will update this review if the reliability becomes an issue, as it did with my previous compact flourescent fixture that failed fairly quickly.
Currently, I am running a fish-only saltwater tank (with a smattering of invertebrates), so I can't comment on whether or not this thing is appropriate for corals, etc.
Light output is great, I wanted it white and bright look and that is what I got. Back and front both well lit with no dark corners. Sides, left and right of the light is dark but not the lights fault. I raised them about 10 inches of the top of the tank and it helps a bit but still dark corners. I have some fish and inverts that actually prefer it not so bright so they've kinda migrated and I don't mind the look.
Overall I think it's the best bang for your buck.

I like that the sliding legs on the sides come out and can be turned upside down so I can hang the light from the canopy simply with self tapping little hooks.
The lights are cool, but the top part runs pretty hot, almost too hot to touch.
Connections are excellent with plenty of length and can be secured tightly to each other.
Initially thought only white or only blue were on but then realized that all are on at the same time and if you switch (manually) the white ones basically turn off and only the blue ones stay on (I think) it looks like the blue alone are way brighter if on alone than when both are supposed to be on. Maybe it's just the 10000k whites taking over.
Like other reviews only real issue is that you can only have one setting on timer, but knew this going in so can't complain about it.

I put this on my 60 and 80 gallon reef tanks. For the 60 gallon it is bright with lots of shimmer. One will be enough to give any 60 gallon a professional look. Very diffuse light. These are 3 watt LEDs. Compared to the marineland, the Reef Evo will have more power or brightness. The marinelands are using only 1'watt LEDs. It's also half the price of a marineland. Just plug into a timer switch and you're set.For my 80 gallon reef tank, since its 6 inches deeper than my 60, 1 Reef Evo may not be bright enough. You may want a quad (4 row led) reef evo. But since I already had a panorama marine pro led, adding this gave my 80 perfect lighting. I'm using this combo to grow SPS corals too. So for any tank above 60 gallons you may want a quad led or have additonal lights if,purchasing this product. I'm giving it 5 stars because I knew what I was getting for my 60 gallon reef tank.

I bought this light fixture on April 18, so it has been 2 months. It has 32x3w bulbs. The first day I did not like it much since it seems too dark, but the next day, after my eyes adjusted to the new light, I love it! The beam go straight down on the rocks, not shed out at all, so it makes the whole tank stand out from the dark environment. The blue light painted on the rocks blue color make them look fancy! The fish love it too, they are calmer and swim slower. The corals, surprisingly open wider and reach out more (the mushroom corals). I saved much energy by using 96w/hr now instead of 320w/hr as before, and the soft corals still thrill! So you can use this light for fresh water or salt water (for soft corals). Have fun!

Quiet One Lifegard Fountain Pump, 220-Gallon Per Hour
When I unpacked the pump the gray manifold on the front was not attached to it. I noticed that the two tabs that hold the pump to the manifold (the gray part of the pump in the picture) were damaged by whoever assembled the item they had just slammed the two pieces together and the tabs broke off. I needed the pump for a project so used some duct tape around the perimeter of the manifold to hold the two pieces together. That seemed to work.I am using the pump in a medium sized concrete fountain that is about 3' high. The pump hums so loudly that you can hear it over the sound of water running down the fountain. I have much larger pumps going in larger water features that are completely silent.
All in all I paid a little more for this pump hoping it would be quieter. What I got was a buzzing, broken pump. :(

Ive bought these units twice now and they both have shorted out within a couple months. Works great then they short out in a short period of time ,the seal isnt tight and moisture must get into it to short out the leds. Disappointed.

Chemi-pure is a bag of active carbon with ion absorption resins mixed in. It is a chemical filter that provides chemisorption and diffusion of gases, and the ion absorption resins as the name implies absorb dissolved ions in the water through a process known as ion exchange. It doesn't do anything for cloudy water but it isn't designed to, so I'm not sure what the last guy was expecting. It's like buying hand lotion and saying it doesn't do anything for sweaty armpits. For cloudy water he should have relied on frequent small water changes, or a diatomaceous earth filter.For what Chemi-pure is specified to be used for, it is my favorite chemical filtration for my Malawi's. I typically stick two 10oz bags in the top bucket of my Eheim canister filter and fill the gaps with filter floss. On a rule of thumb, one 10oz bag is good for 40 gallons or less. It lasts about 3 months max.

Use this product for both my tropical and african mbuna cichlid tanks keeps water crystal clear and lasts longer than regular charcoal media. Our water has lots of problems like most places out West, so we have an R.O. system, but the PH is still not right unless I use Chemi-Pure in my filter instead of plain charcoal. TOM Stellar Air Pump S-20 - 20gal to 30gal tank
So far I've been very pleased with this pump. I've had it for about a week now. After reading complaints about the Tetra Whisper pumps dieing prematurely I decided to give this one a try. Only time will tell, but the construction seems solid. And, the price at least when I bought it was very reasonable and eligible for prime shipping.All air pumps make noise, but the volume from this seems plenty reasonable. I hid mine in a wicker basket under my tank and that seems to almost completely mask any noise. This pump did not come with any other accessories like a t fitting to split the air into multiple hoses, or a check valve to make sure water doesn't back flow into the pump. I already had these so it wasn't an issue for me.
Many people don't know but the rubber diaphragms eventually always wear out in any air pump. So, we will see how long these last, they do list the part number on the packaging for replacing them when they wear out. But, I suspect with shipping that they will cost as much as a new pump since the pump is so inexpensive and eligible for prime shipping.
My goal is to get at least a year of use out of this pump before the diaphragms need replacing. In my mind that's a reasonable amount of time for a pump in this price range. If it dies before a year is out I'll come back and update this post, if there are no updates then it means my pump lasted at least a year!

I was looking for a replacment to my Tetra Whisper (Tetra 77851 Whisper Air Pump, 10-Gallon) reading a review that this product (TOM Stellar Air Pump S-20 20gal) is the most quiet among the many the reviewer has experienced. By far, this pump vibrated on top of my tank despite putting a damper under its feet. The sound is just too annoying. I then tried a Rena (Rena 702A Model 50 Air Pump by Mars but they're both so noisy I went back to ordering the Tetra Whisper.
